FG blacklists 116 schools in S’South

• Sunday, Feb 11, 2007
The Federal Ministry of education has blacklisted 116 schools in the South-South geo-political zone of the country over exam malpractice in the zone.

This presents 35.8% of the 324 schools in the country blacklisted by the Federal Government for their involvement in exam malpractice across the country.

A statement released by the ministry also showed a list of supervisors and examination invigilators barred from supervising public examinations.

A breakdown of the blacklisted schools showed that the South-South was followed by the South-West with 86 schools; North Central, 54 school; South-East, 48 schools. North-West, 12 schools and North-East eight schools.

The list also indicated that Edo State recorded the highest number of schools with 63, Benue 36 and Lagos 29.

Education Minister Obiageli Ezekwesili, who stated this in Abuja at the public presentation of the blacklisted schools, said that the blacklisted schools “are de-recognised as centres of Federal Ministry of Education associated public examinations for a period of four years from January 2007 to December 2010.

The minister was represented at the occasion by Dr Sayyadi Ruma, Minister of State in the ministry.

Said the minister: “The schools through their proprietors, principals, teachers as well as

supervisors, invigilators and community leaders work in concert to facilitate cheating by students”.

“Schools listed in the blacklist are therefore barred from serving as centres for any

examination conducted by the WAEC, NECO and JAMB.

“These schools are similarly barred from the National Business and Technical Examination

Board (NABTEB) and National Teachers Institute (NTI) examinations,” she added.

According to the minister, to sustain the transparency of the blacklisting process, the Federal Ministry of Education has inaugurated the joint action committee on examination ethics.

The minister said that the committee is made up of representatives of the federal and state ministries of education, representatives of the conference of principals and the teachers registration council.

Others are the parent-teacher association, and school proprietors, while other agencies

will continue to drive the process of verification and harmonisation of sanctions.

“The committee will also drive the mandatory integrity capacity building programme for

supervisors and invigilators,” she added.

I also sumarise as follows:

Yoruba, Igbo and hausa contribute significantly in giving the country a bad image, in and out of the country. Any differences will be due to specific crimes committed more by a particular group.

Ironically, the Igbo and Yoruba are also those who produce the critical human capital running the country

The Edo, though a much smaller group, are hot on the heels of the Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa in despoiling the country.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 7:14pm On Feb 08, 2007
That is not true TOH,apparently you did not see the the pictures of the Yoruba man and woman in Jail profiled also in that show that had been deported for fraud under various names.
You also failed to see the Edo/delta guy that had siphoned checks upwards of half a million dollars.
You can read the transcripts of that show on cnn.com for verifications.
Babyosisi,

I thought that TOH was lying too. I had watched the CNN program the first time it was aired last year. I saw that two Yoruba and one edo were involved, from their names. So when TOH came up with her own ''version'' I was a bit suprised and thought may be its another CNN documentary. So TOH has added lies to her credentials? Na wa for waec oh! While others use statistics and verifiable news reports to support their claims, some others (TOH) use lies to score cheap point. Its a shame.

Please could you direct me to the link where I can watch/read that documentary again. Thanks for obliging me

On this note,I STRONGLY disagree with you! We don't need no websites or all that blablabla, but i can assure you that in Asia and in a particular country,99.9% of the people convicted for drug runs are IGBOS ! infact,it's a huge embarrassment to the gvt. and to other Naijas there.
Candy,

I work on statistics or reports from verifiable sources. Where is the proof of your claim? Show internet site or statistics. Otherwise your claim remains a conjecture from your mind. In the UK, most of the drug guys are Yoruba. I have evidences which I am presently collating. I plan to open a new thread for ''Who are the most drug couriers in Nigeria''. Which I will ask respondents to answer with factual evidences.

BTW, did you bother to visit the links provided by XTYCOD?

Docokwy,

I guess you need help here. I'll rescue you.
HM! Thanks XTYCOD,

You beat me to this one.

There is indeed a myriad of welcome revelations currently being made that goes against the grain of hitherto ochestrated misconceptions.

Dear all,

No thanks to most of you for derailing this thread. If you disagree, the most you can do is to hack into the JAMB website and either alter the statistics to suit your warped fancy, or altogether delete the data there.

On the point of prostitution, it is on record that most of the prostitutes in Europe who are of Nigerian origin are from Edo. Evidences of this claim abound. I have lived in Belgium for several years and know the red-light districts. All the Nigerians (other Africans/Europeans/ asians and latinos, are also involved) who prostitute there are from Edo. I have not come across Igbo or Yoruba prostitutes in all this while. I have some reports to support my claim that Edo and Delta are on top of the prostitution rackeet in the entire EUROPE.

I will get back to the issue of drug trafficking, but I can already assure you that Yoruba, Igbo and Edo are on top fof this one. But the Yoruba produce most of the drug barons. I will supply evidences of the last claim soon.

JAMB tells us how many bought exam forms it does not say how many "wrote" the exams, it does not say how many actually passed, does not tell us how many are admitted neither does it give us any idea on how many eventually manage to see their education through.
Davidlan,

Do you know how to read. If so, go back and study the JAMB data. It tells you everything that you have asked above. Except you want to be mischievious.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 8:11pm On Feb 07, 2007
According to your JAMB criteria, which does not tell me how many of these students actually graduate from uni, pursue advanced degrees, pursue degrees in which discipline etc. etc. I'm sure you know all this and refuse to be honest about it, which is why I won't be bothering myself with this discussion any more. It makes no difference to me if the South East produces the most admitted students in Nigerian universities according to JAMB--it's actually a cause for celebration, since people from that region feel marginalized and this turn of events might be helpful in curing that.
TerraCotta,

Sorry about the ''you know how to read?'' joke. It was indeed a joke. Again, the JAMB data mentioned the courses of study and the number of applicants to each course. And, as the name implies JAMB is for admission and not for GRADUATION. The JAMB data needs no adjustment for population. JAMB forms are filled based on state-or-origin. So, with that the population adjustment has been made naturally.

I am currently following a PhD study in Europe and I must admit that many of the students (for MSc and PhD) that I know here are either Igbo or Yoruba, and a sprinkling of Edo.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 7:50pm On Feb 07, 2007
The midwest was carved out of the west in 1964. Gowon came to power in 1967. Those dates are like ages ago. Has nothing to do with the current JAMB situation. Igbo win.  cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cool cool cool

BTW, more SE candidates are willing to go to school, grin grin grin grin but there are simply no places for them. The current educational system in Nigeria is bull.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 7:31pm On Feb 07, 2007
SW had historically higher numbers than these other states, also keeping in mind that till the gowon era, delta+edo (bendel/Midwest region) were
included in the SW, so those figures for Edo and delta would've been included for the region
Another blatant lies. The midwest was created before Gowon, precisely around the regime of Balewa. Did you study some contemporary Nigerian history?

The JAMB records are only 7 years old. Gowon matter is more than 30 years ago.

Also take into account the Igbo indigenous population in Rivers and Delta.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 6:55pm On Feb 07, 2007
As I have said twice now, I do not dispute JAMB statistics!

I distrust the population data as much as the next guy, and the same reason given that Imo indigenes are 'scattered throughout the federation'

including Lagos and Ogun, is the same reason why it is plausible that the population of SE 'indigenes' in the whole country could be greater than those
of the SW, leaving the question of those going to school in proportion to the total population in question.
While this may be correct, until a true census is done we have to make do with the present one, though flawed. I Personally believe that the Igbo is the single most populous people in Nigeria. Sex admission statistics is also available from JAMB. Male Igbos are doing as well as their female counterpart.

On the other hand, is it possible that the south west has reduced higher school attandance rate over the years?
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 10:16am On Feb 07, 2007
TerraCotta,

Do you know how to read? You made a number of untrue statements, one of which is that Edo state is number two after Imo in university admission. That is totally incorrect.

If you know how to read, please go back to the JAMB site and read it properly for all the years, so you can establish a trend of what goes on. However, I can already tell you that there are two types of statistics in that site:

1. Data on JAMB application

http://www.jambng.com/app_ume.php     (for universities)
http://www.jambng.com/app_pce.php      (for polytechnics)

2. Data on JAMB admission.

http://www.jambng.com/adm_ume.php  (for universities)
http://www.jambng.com/adm_pce.php    (for polytechnics)

Unfortunately, there is no data for GRADUATION. As you rightly pointed out, quantity is not quality. So, the emphasis is on admission statistics, I repeat on ADMISSION STATISTICS. and not APPLICATION STATISTICS. There is data in this regard for several years. I have summarised the data for 2004/2005 as follows:

The north is said to have about 75 million people. Of this, only 22,675 were admitted into the universities in Nigeria in 2004/2005, compared to 99815 from the South which is purported to have about 64 million people.

Specifically for the South:

South East (SE) has 41,126 (Imo =15,608; Anambra = 9967; Abia =6054; Enugu =5986; Ebonyi =3519. 20885 JAMB admittants in the SE are females. Meaning that in contrast to widely held conception, slightly more SE males than females attend universities

South South (SS) has 35,788, with Delta (9514), Akwa Ibom (8136), Edo (6630) and Rivers (4905) leading the pack. Bayelsa (4191) had a tremendous improvement in comparison to previous years. Cross Rivers brings up the rear in the SS

South West has 22,901, with Ondo (5214) leading the pack, followed by Ogun (4506) and Lagos (4141). Lamidi Adedibu’s state of Oyo, with over 5 million inhabitants, brings up the rear in the SW with 2639.

This trend has been like this for the past several years, with slight changes here and there. But in all cases, Imo, Anambra and Delta have always remained on top. Thus the South East, followed by the South South are the most educated Nigerians since recent times.

From the above data, it is clear that the North has a problem which by extension, is helping to drag Nigeria backwards. Little wonder ignorance, elitist manipulations, easy brain-washing and other characteristics associated with uneducated societies are rife in the North. In the North, Kogi (4745) leads the pack of university admittance in 2005 followed by Benue (3688). Jigawa (210) Yobe (284) and Zamfara (383) bring up the rear, and dismally too. Curiously, Kano with the highest population has only a paltry 1307. This is not surprising as the population comprises significantly of illiterate beggars and Almajiris
,

If you make a painstaking effort to study the available data, then there is no doubt who are the most educated. Moreover, secondary education (which data from UNICEF you are flaunting; and which is flawed because it is not state-of-origin based) as it is currently in Nigeria, can hardly be said to make one educated. University and Polytechnic education therefore are the most basic ways to assess educational attainment in Nigeria at the moment.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 9:34pm On Feb 06, 2007
If the UNICEF data is juxtaposed with the JAMB one, one thing directly comes to mind: a good % of the students who attend secondary education in Lagos are from the South East. Unless someone can convince me that while other tribes stop mostly after 2ndry education, the Igbo go the whole hog (university/polytechnic) more than others. The question then will be how Lagos will post such high figures for 2ndry education and at the same time perform dismally in JAMB enrollment. The answer is simple. Whereas the UNICEF data comprise of all ethnic groups in Lagos, the JAMB one reflects admittant's real state of origin.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 9:28pm On Feb 06, 2007
''Wow, u know a girl who had a high GPA

With that we can make extrapolations for millions of people then''

That was funny. If done, it will go down as the biggest extrapolation in the history of mankind
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 8:59pm On Feb 06, 2007
TerraCotta,

The secondary education statistics from UNICEF is based on school attendance at place (state) of abode. Therefore, the figure for Lagos reflects all the ethnic groups resident in Lagos. As for the JAMB statisctics, if you have taken JAMB before, you will remember that the form is filled based on state of origin. So the two data -your UNICEF data and the JAMB one- cannot be really comparable.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 5:06pm On Jan 20, 2007
If the result had indicated Yoruba is the greatest, there would not have been any argument from these Oduduwa irredentists. So much for Yoruba hypocrisy. Your reign is over, bros. It is Igbo all the way!! Infact check those who have been able to contribute positively to Obasanjo's government. They are mostly Igbo )Soludo, Okonjo Iweala, Akunyili etc,) and check those incompetent ones; eg Aviation minister Borishade under whose regime 3-4 air crashes were recorded and Ehindero who cannot manage the Nigerian Police force.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 12:12pm On Jan 20, 2007
TONI TONE,

What about millions of Yoruba who are involved in ''mamaput'' and taxi driving? Go to Kano, Port Harcourt, Warri and other major towns outside Yorubaland. There you will find that virtually all the mama put and taxi drivers are yoruba people. What about 75 million almajiris and beggars in the north, including Kogi? If there are more Igbo traders (by the way, Yoruba women also do a lot of trading nowadays) and yet also more Igbo graduates and undergraduates ( so JAMB records says), it boils down to one thing: Igbo is the single largest ethnic group in Nigeria.

Depending on specific countries abroad, you can definitely do an MSc directly with your HND. I know folks with HND (upper credit) who went ahead to pursue MSc studies without recourse to a PGD. Give your vision a shot, bro
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 9:28pm On Jan 19, 2007
The north is a pathetic basket case, education-wise. The only saving grace is Benue and Kogi. Even Plateau was surprisingly backwards. Kano with its 9.3 million people, is all hot air and no substance, posting only just more than 1000 admissions per annum.

EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 8:27pm On Jan 19, 2007
So statistics is no longer tenable? Na wa for naija people oh. And, who is talking of the north, especially the core north with regards to being amongst the most educated? Those guys are still eating gworo and almajirising. Still 100 years behind. As for the south, it is possible that the west was the most educated before, when there was the western Nigerian govt scholarship. I benefitted from it between 1980-1982 for my primary education before Dad got transfered out of the west. It is also possible that it was so because it was free. Now that it is no longer free, water has found its level. Imagine Ondo (the erstwhile hotbed of Nigerian academics) posting consistently very poor admission data in recent years. Free food good oh! lol. The Igbo are putting profits from their famed trading skills in education. I admire them.

True, not everybody that gets into the uni makes it, but is there is any statistics to show who (south, east, west, north) does not make it to the end?

Danniecool, do well to polish your grammar. It sucks
PoliticsRe: Reports Suggest Obj Blocked Okonjo-iweala As Un Vp. by docokwy(m): 3:56pm On Jan 19, 2007
Obasanjo is a selfish traitor who wants everything good in Nigeria to come from him alone. His messianic tendency is suffocating. He should be tried for treason after leaving power. The story must be true because Oyibo people (here I mean every light-skinned persons) generally do not have secrets. If you gossip somebody to them, they end up telling the person that you said so, so, and so. Therefore the new UN secretary general may have told the press precisely why Mrs. Iweala was eventually not appointed.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 3:11pm On Jan 19, 2007
1. Anyone who claimed to have passed JAMB, but could not pass the post-UME exam is a fraud. That has been accepted even by the universities themselves.

2. Nigerians who engage in ''expo'' come from every part of the country. So that cancels itself out.

3. Some northern students on state govt scholarship (I know of Jigawa at least) are studying in Russia. However, more than 80 % of genuine Nigerian students abroad are Igbo and Yoruba

4. Did my MSc study in Belgium and currently following a PhD in Germany. Have been to the UK several times, so I have a good idea of Nigerian studentship there.

In conclusion, I repeat that the JAMB statistics remain the only reliable yardstick to measure who is most (but not necessarily better) educated in Nigeria. Like you said, while some Nigerian high school certificate holders may be better than some graduates in general terms (I think perhaps in English language or mathes depending on specific cases), majority of the former are actually dumbly defficient, hence high school education in Nigeria is ''shaize'' (German for ''shit''). Many thanks to JAMB for this earth-shaking revelation that Igbo, followed by the Niger Delta are currently the most educated Nigerians.
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 1:10pm On Jan 19, 2007
Those who passed the JAMB cut-off and could not pass oral interviews need to have themselves examined. Have you heard of the nigerian cliche "expo''? May be they made their so-called high scores that way. If anything, they should come from all parts of Nigeria. Everything should not be seen in the light of tribalism especially when there is verifiable statistics to support claims. As for studying abroad, all regions of Nigeria do so, but of course the south significantly leads as expected. I have been a student abroad for the past 4 years and I know precisely where and where in Nigeria many of the students I have seen around comes from. No one can really give an accurate distribution of overseas student-nigerian region profile but it is safe to conclude that majority of them are Igbo and Yoruba. On the other hand, JAMB statistics provide a concrete view of the situation within Nigeria.
EducationRe: Nigerian Educational System. by docokwy(m): 10:39pm On Jan 18, 2007
This is the most ridiculous assertion ever made. I had a HND from Nigerian. With that certificate I obtained an MSc in Belgium (from the 36th best university in the world). Now I am pursuing a PhD in Germany in the best lab in Europe and the 8th  best globally. My dear, Naija certificates are recognised. The difference is in grade obtained, and importantly, and how well you are able to compete during interview sessions for scholarship. It is an individual thing.
PoliticsRe: A Lebanese Representing You In The Senate? by docokwy(m): 8:26pm On Jan 18, 2007
If you must not be a graduate to contest, then having or not having an NYSC becomes irrelevant. This is commonsensical. You could have a PhD and not present it, if it will not contribute to your electoral victory. Abi? Majority of the political leaders in the north are less than OND holders. However if your opponents are also supergraduates, wherein educational attainment  becomes an important factor, then your BSC, MSC and PhD as well as NYSC becomes relevant
