PoliticsRe: A Lebanese Representing You In The Senate? by docokwy(m): 7:27pm On Jan 18, 2007
You do not require an NYSC to contest elections in Nigeria. Being a graduate is just an added boost and is by no means a requirement. Read your constitution again. If the lebanese guy is a Nigerian, then he is welcome to contest. Variety is the flavour. However, the last time I checked, qualification is not synonymous with acceptance.
PoliticsTinubu Appoints Igbo As Commissioner by docokwy(op): 7:22pm On Jan 18, 2007
It is good news to read that Gov Tinubu appointed an Igbo as a commissioner recently. Nevertheless some see it as  really not a big deal. They argue that right now in Enugu State, you have a Yoruba man as a special assistant to Gov. Nnamani. In Niger state and Kano, you have Igbos as special advisers to the respective governors. Orji Kalu at a time also had a Yoruba as a special assistant. Nigeria should be operating at the level of competence and not tribalism. Long-live. What is your opinion on this development?
EducationRe: Who Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 7:08pm On Jan 18, 2007
What else could be more enough? All government approved universities and polytechniques (private and public) are under the auspices of JAMB. So information from JAMB should be a good statistical basis to start any informed debate

You have all the statistics with Jamb. Do you have their website?
EducationRe: Any Scholarship Or Grant Winners Here? by docokwy(m): 6:48pm On Jan 18, 2007
Nice interest you have to study abroad. Studying abroad, especially on scholarship is the best thing that can happen to any Nigerian, given the current bastardisation of our educational system. I studied on the Belgian development co-operation (www.vlir.be) scholarship (1050 euros per month) for my MSc and I am following a PhD program under the auspices of  a German scientific society fellowship (1550 euros per month)
EducationRe: The Best University In Nigeria? by docokwy(m): 6:29pm On Jan 18, 2007
There are no good universities in Nigeria. You do not find a single Nigerian uni amongst the best 1000 universities globally. In the current African university ranking, only Pan African University Lagos headed by Prof. Odinachi utomi made the list of the 100 (number 85, I think) best universities. All these our UI, UniLag, UNN are nothing but mediocre secondary schools.

Docokwy (University of Gent, Belgium; number 36 in the whole world)
EducationWho Are The Most Educated Nigerians? by docokwy(op): 5:18pm On Jan 18, 2007
Higher education is the bedrock of any nation's growth. Educational pursuit in Nigeria is a serious issue, but for one reason or the other, not all Nigerians show interest in that endeavour. Therefore, who are the most educated Nigerians at the moment? The North or the South? The East or the West?
