Facebook and twitter have internal control and censoring mechanisms where they on their own take down accounts that they deem harmful to societal balance and harmony. This is what is really happening. Every time bandits attack a particular location, security forces on ground cannot and do not respond until they call and receive clearance from Abuja. The same thing played out during the second attack on Yelwata, Benue state where soldiers deployed to that community, stood aside watching as rampaging killers went around killing. Men of the Nigerian police in that community, engaged the attackers until they ran out of bullets.

Earlier last week, the governor of Zamfara state mentioned that anytime bandits attack communities in his state, soldiers who are supposed to respond and ward off the attackers maintain that their hands are tied and they can do nothing unless they receive clearance from Abuja.

Are we beginning to see a pattern? The question worth asking now is who in the army hierarchy, the office of the NSA or the presidency, gave this order that clearance must be sought from Abuja before troops on ground engage these killers? Citizens of Nigeria are being killed and someone in Abuja insists that his permission must be sought before the killers are engaged with force? Is this how little the lives of Nigerians mean to this government?

The Benue state incident seems even more suspicious. The attackers exchanged fire with the police but did not do so with the soldiers even though they had clear lines of fire against the soldiers and could see them. The soldiers equally did not engage the attackers. Is there something these killers know that we don't?

I just read the link you posted. We are well and truly f**ked aren't we? Does Dangote have enough products in storage to last till November? Or will we have to rely majorly on imports again.

NUPENG must not be allowed to blackmail and threaten the government and the economy. Dangote refinery is a private entity and reserves the right to enforce internal conditions as it deems fit.

The only organisation that may even be considered to have a say here is the Petroleum and Tanker Drivers Association of Nigeria and they have told their members to ignore NUPENG and the strike.

NUPENG wants to force unionisation in a private refinery and by so doing will want to dictate to Dangote how to relate with drivers under its employ. That is a no-no. Did NUPENG go after Greenfield gas? Has NUPENG gone after Nigerian breweries, coca cola or Guinness? Does NUPENG dictate to any of these companies that they must enforce unionisation of their drivers? Why is NUPENG insisting that Dangote drivers must unionise?

Dangote has thousands of truck drivers in his sugar, salt, flour and cement companies. Why did NUPENG not bring up the issue of their unionisation all this while? Is it because NUPENG has read the hand writing on the wall and knows that Dangote is about to render them irrelevant? Dangote should call thier bluff.

NUPENG didn't down tools to force government to fix the terrible roads the unions drivers have been forced to use all these years. NUPENG kept looking the other way as hundreds of its drivers lost their lives in the course of delivering products across the country. Now NUPENG claims to have found its voice? Dangote should crush them. NUPENG has held Nigerians hostage for too long.
