VAT is recorded on point of sale. Nigeria has no system of recording point of sale VAT deductions so it is false to say Lagos generates half of VAT in Nigeria.

Example: Someone will buy mtn recharge card in Aba, but the VAT will be credited to Lagos because MTN headquarters is in Lagos.

Reno Omokri should go for education. VAT is paid by the consumer, not by the company. The company is only acting as an agent to collect the VAT.

Exactly! That's what people fail to understand. 90% of goods and services produced in Lagos are consumed by other states and those consumers pay the incidence of VAT. The rest of the country is what keeps Lagos afloat.

Civil servants make up less than 1 percent of the population of each state. Yet as much as 45% of a states monthly income from the federation account is used to pay them salaries. This isn't right.

As much as civil servants both at the federal and state levels are an entirely unproductive lot, I'll not blame them. The truth is most states shouldn't even exist. If states aren't self funding, the arguement fails to hold for their existence. Any state that depends entirely on federal government allocations before it can pay salaries is a disaster in waiting.
