Overall My Impression Of Germany As A Country And Their Jazz & Music Scene Changed Considerably. I Was Deeply Impressed By The Level Of Development And Opportunities In Place To Do A Lot Of Projects Even Outside What I Was Invited For. After This Program The Probability Of More German Bands Being Booked Internationally Is Very High, At Least I Have Seen A Few I Would Like To Book For Some Of My Events And Recommend To Other Promoters & Producers Here. Artiste Collaboration & Touring Opportunities Are Also Possible. The Jazz In Germany Programme Is A Good Initiative That Will Yield Positive Results As The Participants Who Are Already Influencers In Their Various Countries Got To See First Hand The Caliber & Cadre Of Musicians Germany Has And How They Can Be Engaged In Other Countries. This Is Ingenious. The Underlying Message Is German Jazz & Music Is Very Ready For Export And The Avenues To Make This Happen Are Already In Place. So Do It!

Celebrities / Court Orders Coson To Render Accounts To Mcsn. by doggone: 10:49pm On Jul 28, 2018

The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) has been given the green light to go ahead and demand from the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) and its Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji, the accounts of all royalties collected on behalf of its members and affiliates for the seven years COSON acted as the sole collecting society in Nigeria.

The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN)an owner, assignee and exclusive lincecsee, which was approved as a Collecting Society/Collective Management Organisation last year has approached the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos seeking an order against the defendants, (COSON and its chairman, (Tony Okoroji) to account for monies they collected on MCSN’s repertoire in Suit No FHC/L/CS/1172/17.

However, in a preliminary objection to the suit, COSON and Okoroji asked the court presided over by Justice O.O Oguntoyinbo to dismiss the suit on the grounds that the plaintiff has not disclosed any material facts to aid the court to arrive at a fair judgment. Other grounds of objection are that the Court lacks the jurisdiction to hear and determine the suit as issues raised therein are statute barred, having arisen over six years prior to the time the matter was instituted in court. COSON also argued that the plaintiff has failed to disclose a reasonable cause of action against the defendant (COSON). And finally COSON claimed that MCSN lacks the locus standi to bring the action because it didn't have the approval of the NCC to operate as a collecting society and to collect royalties at the material time the Plaintiff's complaint purportedly occurred.

MCSN, through its lawyers D. A. Awosika and Partners, countered that by a recent Appeal Court decision in Appeal No./CA/L/846 /2009, the Plaintiff had the locus standi to institute the suit.
The plaintiff cited a plethora of authorities to back up its opposition to the preliminary objection of the defendant and concluded that the preliminary objection of the defendant was frivolous and therefore ought to be dismissed.

In her ruling, Justice Oguntoyibo agreed with the Plaintiff and dismissed the preliminary objection of the defendant.
"On the whole, I hold that the instant application lacks merit. Accordingly, the issues formulated for determination are resolved in favour of the Plaintiff /Respondent, against the Defendants/Applicants, and the Notice of Preliminary Objection filed on the 1st day of November 2017 is hereby dismissed” Justice Oguntoyinbo ruled on May 22nd 2017.

Celebrities / Tuff Gong Celebrates 40 Years Of Kaya by doggone: 10:35am On Jul 03, 2018
@doggone

On August 24, 2018, the Marley Family, Island Records, and UMe will collectively proclaim the sun is shining in celebration of 40 years of Kaya, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ historic March 1978 release to be distributed in the Caribbean by Tuff Gong International.

This most special anniversary edition will feature Stephen “Ragga” Marley’s exciting and vibrant new “Kaya 40” mixes of all ten tracks from the original album alongside its original mixes in 2CD and 180-gram 2LP configurations. (The digital version will be a standalone release of Stephen’s mixes only.) The album will also be available as a limited edition 180-gram 2LP green vinyl version exclusively at BobMarley.com, says a release emailed to Doggone News Associated (DNA).

Recorded in London concurrently with the material that ultimately comprised 1977’s Exodus — a record proclaimed by Time Magazine in 1999 to be the Best Album of the 20th Century — Kaya is the perfect sonic-sibling bookend that shares all the joy, spirit, and literal DNA of some of Marley’s most groundbreaking material. Kaya contains a number of the most enduring, heartfelt songs in the entire Marley canon, including “Is This Love,” “Easy Skanking,” and “Sun Is Shining.”

Kaya was initially released just one month ahead of Bob Marley & The Wailers headlining the legendary One Love Peace Concert at The National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on April 22, 1978, an event that featured 16 of reggae’s biggest acts. One Love Peace was heralded as Marley’s triumphant return to his native soil, following his long exile in London after having fled the country as a result of a December 1976 assassination attempt at his Kingston homestead.

The album was recorded with the then-new configuration of The Wailers that comprised brothers Carlton and Aston “Family Man” Barrett on drums and bass, Tyrone Downie on keyboards, Alvin “Seeco” Patterson on percussion, and the I Threes — Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths, and Judy Mowatt — on backing vocals, along with newest member Julian (Junior) Marvin on guitar. Two of Kaya’s songs had previously appeared in different arrangements on 1971’s Soul Revolution — the title track, and “Sun Is Shining.”

Stephen's goal in mixing Kaya 40 was to create a balance that drew heavily from the original versions. Using Bob’s vocals from demos from original Kaya sessions that were recorded at different tempos, Stephen synched the vocals with alternate takes and layered it over different instrumental arrangements. Stephen tried to keep the flavor as authentic as possible. To mix the album, he used a similar minimal approach, basing his version heavily off the classic analog concepts they used in the 1970s.

Bob Marley’s artistic legacy forever endures, and the 40th anniversary edition of Kaya only serves to reinforce just how much we all share the shelter of this special music.

Celebrities / How Michael Jackson's Father 'bowed Out' by doggone: 11:07pm On Jun 28, 2018
@doggone

Joe Jackson, father of late American musician, Michael Jackson, has died. He reportedly battled cancer for months before he finally have up the ghost on Wednesday, after suffering stroke and multiple dementia. His wife, Katherine Jackson, however, had to stand her ground before she could be allowed in to see him at the Las Vegas hospital he was admitted as Joe had left instructions that he didn't want to receive visitors.

By the time she finally gained access, Joe was in bad shape. She stayed by his bedside, where other family members later joined her. The Jackson family patriarch Joe, was reportedly in the "end stages" of a battle with terminal cancer and was hospitalized on Friday. TMZ alleges that Jackson had been battling the illness for some time, but it was at the end stages lately, adding that "the cancer could not be treated."

Katherine had been at his side in the hospital for the past several days -- as have some of the legendary manager's children and grandchildren -- but she was only able to do so after an alleged standoff with Joe's manager, Charles Coupet. The Daily Mail reported that the father of 11 children's last days had not been without controversy. For the first four days of his hospitalization, Joe was reportedly not able to see his family, with his handlers barring them from visiting him on his deathbed.

Katherine and daughter, Rebbie, had reportedly visited Joe in his Las Vegas home a week before he was moved to a hospital -- without the rest of his family being informed of the move.

Celebrities / D'banj's Son's Death: Musician, Psychologist Caution Celebs. by doggone: 11:07am On Jun 26, 2018
@doggone

A musician, ADY, has described as a tragic end the drowning of D'Banj's 1 year old son, Daniel D'Third, on Sunday.The toddler strayed to the swimming pool inside the Ikoyi mansion of the Koko Master on June 24 and drowned.Peeved by the obvious carelessness of the mother, Ibadan-based ADY urged D'Banj's colleagues not to be sentimental about the tragedy, but should apportion blame to who deserves it.

"We like to take serious issues with levity in Nigeria. Many top artists will not address the issue of carelessness on the part of the mother, or the nanny, whoever should have been monitoring the little kid that day. I read D'Banj traveled to Los Angeles for the BET award, so he can be excused. But did he take his wife with him? If he did, I would expect him to have taken the boy along too. If he didn't, where was the wife,?he queried.

A father of two, ADY said a lot goes into raising a child. "101% attention is top of the duties. I always instructed my wife to pay serious attention to my children while they were growing up or we would fight. From what has happened, I can haphazard a guess that D'Banj spent more time with the boy whenever he was around than the wife. I've never seen his wife do that more than him. Check out the pictures they post on social media platforms. So, where was she?

Using the opportunity to call on parents to understand what is expected of them, he expressed his sadness about the loss and prayed to God to heal any emotional wounds that has been afflicted. "I really feel for him, and also his wife. I am a father and a fan of D'Banj too. But words won't bring him back. Only God can fill the vacuum that has been created. It is never a good thing for a father to lose a son. My condolences to the family," he said.

A clinical psychologist, Dr Richard Olaiya in Lagos, cautioned Nigerians on the imported lifestyles they are living as it is having a negative effect on them and their followers."It is unAfrican to site swimming pools in our homes. People will talk because a celebrity is involved in a tragic story, but we don't talk about their excessive tastes. While I don't blame whoever wants to have a pool or anything in his house, it doesn't make any sense to have such in a house with toddlers. Kids are always inquisitive the moment they begin to crawl. That's when attention is more important because you'll never know when they'll be out of your sight.

"Sadly as the report is, so also is the issue of alcohol abuse as being promoted by musicians in their videos. In less than a decade, the number of young Nigerians with kidney and liver problems have risen and nobody is talking. In the future, when we begin to lose these men, we will probably blame it on the government.

"Responsibility comes with a lot of work and diligence. Raising a kid is tougher than keeping a job. So, that is a job in itself. If this had happened abroad, you can be sure that the woman and man would be prosecuted because a life is involved. I am sorry for him and his wife. I hope others will learn a lesson from this," he added.

D'Banj has described this "as trying times," but expressed faith in God for being "faithful always." Just last month, Daniel turned a year. D'Banj had a low key wedding to Lineo Didi Kilgrow almost 2 years ago.

School Bands jostle for honours at Lagos High School Music Challenge

High school students and lovers of live music are in for exciting times as a novel Lagos High School Music Challenge (LHSMC) kicks off. LHSMC is a unique music contest aimed at harnessing music talents among children and teenagers in the state while empowering and offering early guidance into the ever growing and exciting world of live music.

The program which is opened to secondary students in Lagos will officially debut on the 20th of June, 2018 at the Multi-Purpose Hall, EKO FM, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos with over 30 bands vying for honors and various goodies up for grabs. The executive producer of the show, Biodun Kupoluyi, the Chief Executive Officer, Entertainment Media Limited, explained that “the appalling trend of parading music illiterates as the elites of Nigerian music pushed us as an organization to birth this idea. The rich musical history that King Sunny Ade, Fela, Dan Maraya Jos, Bala Miller, IK Cairo, Ebenezer Obey, Osita Osadebe, Oliver De Coque, and all the other great legends toiled to build is gradually eroding, dying and that is why we decided to face the next generation to help arrest the situation.”

Checks on the official website of the competition, www.Lhsbconline.com shows that registration closed Thursday, 14 June 2018 and the excitement among school pupils, music instructors and parents is high. Organizers hinted schools have since began rehearsals for the competition that will parade 15 of the 30 bands eliminated during the first round leaving the remaining contestants to face the battle in front of a panel of industry experts for the second round.

Also, solo talents in music will be on stage to contest among themselves. Among the schools qualified for the finals are CMS Grammar School, Igbobi Junior High School, Supreme Education Foundation, Bishop Howell, Seolad Group of Schools, ZIggy Wisdom School,Living Stone Model School, Babington Macaulay, and Baptist Academy, Tesjok School, Command Day Secondary School, Ogudu Grammar School, Stadium Junior Grammar School and Agidingbi Junior Grammar School, among others. Celebrities / One Of The Interviews Granted By The Late Ras Kimono This Year by doggone: 4:43pm On Jun 16, 2018
@doggone_news

This is the one of the interviews granted by the late Ras Kimono this year. With due accreditation to thesketchonline, Doggone News Associated republishes it.

Why it took me 5 years to return – Ras Kimono

To Rub –a –dub master, Ras kimono, it can never be over musically, until it is indeed. He may not have pushed out any album since the past five years for many reasons. Some of these, he told IFECHI OKOH during a concerted close-up, which touched on other interesting areas concerning him as an act and person too. Happy reading.

YOUR LONG SILENCE SUGGEST THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN OVER MUSICALLY. IS IT REALLY SO?
Long silence? I have never been silent, not to talk of a long time. I remember that in 2012, I came out with a commercially viable album, titled “Matter of time”, with tracks like screw face, veteran, wicked politicians and others. Today, I thank God that I have just completed and released a two new singles, titled “senseless killings and Blessed Africa”. Both of them are singles on the Pjay Records, owned by Peter Ighodalo who is also the C.E.O of Pjay supermarket, Iju road Lagos. My fans may have been wondering why it took me 5yrs to return. I am a very serious minded and organized Reggae man and as a leader in the businessI can’t afford to be dishing out anything for the sake of music.This explains why I am coming back at this time and with something that means a lot to my fans.

HAVE YOU REALLY BROUGHT IN ANYTHING NEW TO THE TABLE IN YOUR CURRENT PUSH OUT?
Of course yes, the two singles released talked differently about the senseless killing going on in Africa, especially in Nigeria. that is the one I tittled senseless killings were I lamented the death of so many innocent souls, wondering why this should be so on regular basis. In the Blessed Africa single, I wondered seriously why we have all the natural resources to take care of ourselves, yet, we are hungry because of irresponsible leadership.

MAY WE KNOW THE FACTORS WHICH CAME INTO PLAT TO ENSURE THESE NEWNESS?
There may not have been anything so new about my focus on what is happening in my country And saying it as it is. However, my arrangement and rendition style have improved seriously compared to my last released 5yrs ago. If you listened to my current released, you will notice kimono is as fresh as the money dew.

WHY YOUR CHOICE OF PJAY RECORDS AS A CELEBRATED ACT?
Me and the owner of the records label, have known our self over the years. He as been my fan and friend too. He has been with me since I released “under pressure”. It may interest you to know he has implicit confidence in my creative ability and performing zeal. For these reasons, he did not waste time for him about doing business with me which is a confirmation in my potential and commercial viability. I thank God for these believe and I pray we will do business for long successfully. In jesus name. Amen.

APART FROM RELEASES DO YOU SURVIVE ON PERFORMANCES?
Yes, because from timeI have been living on my performances which have been complementing my releases seriously.

Celebrities / Exclusive - Controversy Trails Taye Currency's Fatal Accident Claim by doggone: 10:59am On Jun 06, 2018
@doggone news associated

A medical practicioner, Dr Adeyefa Victor, and an auntomobile engineer, Mr Yekini Agbaje, have controverted claims by Ibadan-based Fuji musician, Taye Currency, that he survived a fatal accident along Ile-Ile-ibadan Expressway penultimate Friday.

Currency told a media outfit that Nigerians should help him thank God for surviving a fatal accident unhurt after his vehicle summersaulted 15 times, the experts bone of contention.

Dr Adeyefa said it was not possible for a vehicle to be on top speed and passengers would escape unhurt after it might have summersaulted 15 times.
"4/5 times, maybe. But 15 times? It is not possible. We need to ask some questions here. Was he the one driving? "No", Doggone News Associated (DNA) told him.
Probing further, the Belgium-trained medical expert asked if the musician was directly behind the driver seat or beside the driver. According to one of his aides, Taye sat next to the driver, while his two personal assistants sat in the back of the Toyota Hilux truck.

"If the vehicle was going on top speed, and on a slopey road, it would've been disasterous. But if it was on a straight road, after 4/5 summersaults, it would come to a halt, or be stopped by an object such as a tree and others," said the doctor.

The report further had it that Taye still headed for Ado Ekiti to perform at the commissioning of some projects by the state governor, Ayo Fayose. "He had to go because he had collected his appearance fee. Besides, many top dignitaries were to be at the event and Taye couldn't afford not to be there, said the aide who craved anonymity.

"For the report to be true; that he survived it, I mean, then he is not sure of the number of summersaults. Besides, he could have used a belt. But even at that, he wouldn't have been able to travel to Ekiti and still perform till the weekend hours of the next day. He would have been admitted to check for brain, chest and other internal injuries," the doctor told DNA.

Mr Yekini also said he doubted the report because a vehicle that summersaults 12-15 times would be badly damaged.
"From the pictures that I saw, that truck probably summersaulted twice or thrice. That's the only way the occupants would have escaped unhurt. I heard Taye was the only one that was injured, while the three others did not have a scratch on their bodies.
"It's hard to believe he would only have a small scratch on his head after his truck summersaulted 15 times. The truck would have been crushed beyond recognition and so, they wouldn't have been able to go somewhere to perform. They all would be in critical condition at an hospital right now. But then, we should thank God for his life," he said.

Iyanda Ganiyu, however, told DNA that Taye not only survived the fatal accident, he has travelled to Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj.
"His head was bandaged all through the show. But he is okay now. A passerby who recognized him took him to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital where his bleeding head was treated, and thereafter, a car was chartered to take him to Ekiti.

"He will be back from Umra hours before, or after the Ramadan festival," he told DNA.

Now to the ring kiss

As actress, Toyin Abraham Aimakhu, continues to hold tightly to her chest the identity of her new boyfriend, Doggone News Associated (DNA) can relaibly inform that the reportedly worth N3mn engagement rings were brought into the country by hand, and not by courier.

A source in London told DNA that the 18 carat gold and diamond rings were purchased in Italy by a friend of the lawyer, and brought by hand to Nigeria by another trusted friend two days before the engagement at the actress's apartment in Lekki, Lagos, penultimate Wednesday.

"We are just happy for the guy. He's a very cool dude, an introvert and also an extrovert. He sent the money and I gladly agreed to bring the package to Lagos myself after his friend had gone to buy it in Italy on May 3 at Barbara Marotto SRLS, Italy," said the source who also would not want his name mentioned.

The certificate of authenticity, shown to DNA, but with a stern instruction that it should not be photographed for any unauthorised use, had it's stamp of origin as V1225 and actual metal lithe, 18kt gold, weighing 3,60g. It was made by Riccardo Marotto Gioielli.

"The three of us had known each other since our days at the premier university of Nigeria. When he told us that he wanted to take his present relationship to another level, we asked him what he wanted us to do and he said he'd like to get the engagement ring from Italy after seeing it online. He declined our offer to buy the ring, while we insisted that one of us would have to bring it to Nigeria to witness the engagement, which he agreed to," added DNA source who is also a lawyer in UK.

He however said his friend's identity wouldn't be hidden for too long, just as he told DNA that some of their friends would be in Nigeria for the necessary activities.

After her divorce three years ago, Toyin buried herself in her career, but never stopped telling her friends that God would bring a good man into her life. Could it be the lawyer?

Celebrities / EXCLUSIVE: High On Ice Cream - How Toyin Aimakhu's New Man Proposed To Her by doggone: 3:30pm On May 20, 2018
Exclusive story:

Doggone News Associated (DNA) has been told by a witness how the man in the life of Yoruba actress, Toyin Aimakhu Abraham, proposed to her in her Lekki home on Wednesday night.

The mysterious lawyer, accompanied by a cab driver and a friend from their days at a higher institution of learning, arrived at the actress's apartment around 11pm, and were ushered in by one of Toyin's assistants.

"The man admitted that he had butterfly in his stomach as they approached Toyin's house, so he instructed the driver to pull over at Mega Chicken where he bought a cone of ice cream to calm frayed nerves. He was afraid Toyin might reject him," he said.

When they got there, an odd hour to the Ibadan-based lawyer, who believes that a woman should not be visited anytime after 8/9pm, was edged on by the warm reception he and his friends received from the actress. "Aunty was still up by that time, but she was in her room," DNA source said.

Apparently expecting the lawyer, he asked the actress to briefly come outside so he can tell her something about her movie, "The Ghost And The Tout", which is presently selling out at major cinemas nationwide.

She declined, insisting that he must say whatever he wanted to say right there. Taken off guard, and sensing that his plan was about to fail, the lawyer pleaded with the actress to follow him outside so he could freely talk. She finally agreed.

When they got to Toyin's sitting room, where there were four others there. Before these others, which included a lady and a guy, relatives of the actress, and the lawyer's friend from London, the lawyer proposed.

"My friend later told me that he didn't know what was he was doing, but he had to do it. On a knee, which he couldn't remember, and which I also can't, my friend's rehearsed words vanished, " his UK colleague told DNA in a phone chat.

"With only his words, he said: "See this rings, one is for you and one is for me." (The usual thing was for the lawyer to present one ring, the one for the lady, but in his state of confusion, he cared less about protocol) "Would you do me the honour and pick one of it?, he begged.

Nursing a heartbreak since parting with Adeniyi Johnson about three years ago, Toyin, who had said several times that she was willing to give marriage another trial, replied: "Do the right thing and pick the right one."

"My boss picked the right one, slid it in Toyin's left hand band, and asked her to marry him. It fitted perfectly.
"The next thing we heard was a loud yes, said repeatedly, and everyone started jumping, clapping, praising God for another opportunity," said the anonymous UK-based lawyer.

Toyin has taken to the social media to announce her engagement to an undisclosed lawyer though, but be sure DNA will keep you posted on developments as it happens.
