The incubator must have constant power and oxygen supply and must be kept in sterile conditions always. They will be fed intravenously and given routine medication daily. They will be attended to by neonatal medical personnel round the clock. All these cost money! And remember, the hospital is a business organisation, they need to make their profits. If they're competent and well equipped enough to handle 6 premature babies at once, they deserve accolades and the rights to charge that amount. 3m for each child is like chicken change compared to what they're charging for same care in other countries.

First of all, incubators aren't cheap, neither is it's maintenance. An incubator is like ICU but for a newborn. It is not the kind of place nepa can take light before children start dying left right and center..
They have to stay within EXTEREMELY STERILE conditions and within certain temperatures.

You cannot enter the NICU with your bathroom slippers or without observing some form of hygiene and personal protective equipment, the nurses will caution you. If your personal hygiene is bad as a mother. The same thing too.


I remember because as a doctor if you have a cough or are ill,, you can go near the preterms. You will only be able to document at the nurses area. If the child get any nyamanyama germs, it may die. There was a preterm whose mother was HIV positive and tuberculosis. She was never allowed to the NICU to see her child, that child also struggled and hovered between life and death so many times until discharge. . Then let's not talk about making sure the child is able to breathe because it lungs are not yet developed. Then calculating it's feeding, making sure its growing daily .
