Hmmm. The specie matters in this situation. The coconut planted are they both dwarf type? Because if they are both the dwarf type, they will both produce. But if they are the specie that takes longer and taller, it will not fruit because they are both competing for food(nutrients in the soil).

I have come across this scenario in a friends family compound at Ijebu Ode. They have older coconut trees in the compound, and because the mum and sisters don't bother to check when ever some coconut falls from the trees, those coconut ended up germinating. I even harvested some last month from this dwarf trees.

I will try and post a picture of this scenario 2nd week of January 2023 God willing for you to see that, it sures boils down to the specie planted.

It's the dwarf coconut species. It's scenarios like this and the other one in my previous comment that convinced that there are male and female coconut plants. Thanks for the lectures, wishing you a bountiful harvest.

Well that is not true. The soil conditions of the one that was not bearing fruits cold be a factor, building shading the coconut from sunlight and at times all they need is manuring and edible salts(yes) etc. Some species of coconut could take 10-12 years before it starts fruiting and if they are not taken good care of, it could take longer time before gestation period.

How about 2 coconut trees planted side by side. One proudest fruits while the other remains barren, what could be the reason?

But there are some coconut plants that don't produce fruits. I know of someone that planted coconuts in his main house and rental house which was just on the next street. The one in his main house never bore fruits while the one in the rental house bore hundreds of coconuts till the tree wore out. The tenants just dey enjoy free coconuts cos the landlord no too get wahala. We were told that it the male and female coconut seeds are identical (just like pawpaw) and one won't know the difference till they get to the fruiting stage.

The plants in the opening post are almost a year old? How long does it take before they starts producing fruits?

True. He borrowed money from several people for the visa processing, flight tickets and pocket money when he gets there. He quit his job and suspended his master's program to chase greener pastures in a poor country where it's citizens are also looking for means to japa. Honestly it will take a very strong person with a strong support system not to be suicidal considering what that guy went through. Found the thread about the nairalander that ran away to Kazakhstan. He got there in early May, he was so full of excitement about how "developed" the country was. What he didn't know was that the development started and ended in the airport he was posting from.

Reality hit him when he realized that the visa agent fraudulently collected $2000 for a useless six months visa which couldn't be used to find work anywhere in the country (not that there were jobs flowing everywhere, the language barrier made it impossible to get any type of work). He did a thread about his horrid experience in the country and warned Nigerians not to be fooled by any agent into coming there.

He eventually returned to Nigeria in July with nothing and went to hide in a friend's place in Abuja. He couldn't tell his people he was back due to shame I guess. Few days after his arrival, he committed suicide while he was alone in the friend's house. The story was reported in this thread below
