afrodoc2:His 2 strong campaign stance were on immigration and the economy. Right now no one gives a fuck_ about immigration and the economy is tanked. I don't believe that the vast majority of Americans are that stupid to reelect trump. The swing states that won him the election are tilting back to the democrats. Current polls show him losing many of them.
|
Ibime:This one way you decide show your face today, are we safe? ![]() Modified: just realized that is rick Wilson. |
afrodoc2:I strongly believe that trump would lose his reelection bid. The only fear is that Biden is not looking like a strong challenger. A strong opponent would have floored trump publicly by now but not much is heard or seen of Biden. |
seankafor:By chance, have you watched this video?? It supports the stance, you, Ibime and Raumdeuteur were making about churches. Was this a source of your knowledge? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwSEpgq6vPw&t=310s |
seankafor:This was exactly the question I had in mind. I still stand by what I said earlier about him, he is clearly a brilliant individual with a curious mind who has carried out extensive research on a wide scope of religious ideologies, beliefs, history, scientific postulations and philosophies. However, some times, one falls victim to his own supposed brilliance. Just as Isaac Newton and some of the earlier scientists in their quest for the understanding of the universe believed ardently in alchemy which we now know is rubbish, he too has a lot of postulations and theories which are just plain rubbish. Just as he has fed his mind with reasonable knowledge he has also fed it with unadulterated bullocks. His posts are quite interesting and captivating though. I feel both impressed and appalled or amused at his thinking. |
raumdeuter:Trump is very unstable. 4 chief of staff in 4 years. It just shows how difficult it is working for him. |
larride:I'm hearing rumors that it might be Muhammed Marwa, do you know anything about him? |
larride:Who do you think will assume kyaris post? |
It's clear that this gensteejay guy has extensively researched religious history which is commendable but the obvious problem is that his sources are definitely wrong and misleading. And his unflinching belief in those wrong sources ironically makes him an extremist. I feel both impressed and appalled reading his posts. ![]() |
kingjomezy:What you felt was a terrible hunger induced hallucinations. Better go and feed well and stop deceiving yourself. |
Hazardfan1:you guys are doing something wonderful. Nice one, all we have mostly are people who just sit at home and complain about government without actually carrying out any form of commitment to works that would positively impact people. Thanks for leading by example. I commend your efforts. |
The last 15 pages have certainly been an interesting read. Quite unfortunate I missed the convo. Ibime and Raumdeuteur, you must know that it is a fool's errand when attempting to challenge one's religious beliefs or aspects of it because the foundations of such belief has been laid since birth and the core principle of religion or a belief system is based upon a foundation of complete faith without doubt, having doubts is looked upon as blasphemy which is a grave sin. Not to forget that from birth, you are given a mental image of how the Bible is a very powerful book, you are made to believe that the Bible is not just a book made of papers from tree like any other book but that it has powers, you are told to believe every single word of the Bible without ever questioning it if not you are questioning God himself. All these beliefs are reinforced all through the stages of one's growth, apart from the church, you are asked to pray also in school, almost all nollywood films we watched were of religious ideologies or backgrounds. So it is almost impossible to break from that belief system. I am a living example of the painful, stressful and harrowing experience of shedding these beliefs and re-orientating my Psychological and lifes dogma. You see I come from a very strong catholic background, as a matter of fact, almost everyone in my village in the east is a Catholic because the Catholics were the first missionaries to come our village and my grandfather was one of the early converts and was even made a warrant chief by the British, so naturally all his children my dad included were very strong Catholics. I was born a catholic, received the sacraments, became a mass servant and lay reader and my parents even sent me to a religious secondary school. I was so fervent in my rosarys( an important catholic form of praying) I prayed it on a daily basis. I was made a school functionary and as the SP I usually led the whole students on prayers everyday. It was in my university day's that I started watching foreign movies, then one's exposure to information or the internet was limited so it wasn't easy as it is today to research from a wide variety of sources on the internet. It was while watching a foreign movie in university that I first heard someone question God's existence for the first time in my life. I was shocked and furious immediately but then the seeds of doubt had been sown. When I narrated my doubts and feelings to my roommate then, that was when he gave me a run down of different religious beliefs over the world and this further fuelled my doubts. This period of sustained doubt was quite an excruciating one because my curiosity and inquisitive nature made me research further and the more I learnt further about the history of the church especially it's negative parts, how the colonisers used religious indoctrination to subdue the old African communities and rule over them, or how evil some of the old popes were 9r how pedophiles were rampant in the Catholic Church, all these things made me feel bad even for myself, I felt I was blaspheming, I would go for numerous confessions, because I deeply felt I was sinning against God just by having doubts and questions about all I have been told since birth. Believe you me, it took a long time and process for me to accept that I was agnostic about God. Richard Dawkins was a man I listened to severally because of his brilliant skill of using science to debunk religious myths. When my agnosticism about God was established and I told my parents, my dad instantly changed me from unizik where I was studying industrial engineering and put me in a religious university. To my parents, their only logical reason why I could have "abandoned" God was because I must have joined a diabolical cult all my attempts to prove otherwise were futile. My efforts to voice my reasons for my doubts would only make me looked possessed in my dad's eye . Every holiday became a nightmare, because of my dad's fanatism and senior position in church, he would invite our priest to come and celebrate mass in our house ![]() I was still forming stronghead, till he made it clear that he would cut me off financially if I didn't drop these "deadly" ideas of atheism. Oboi na there I begin form prayerful for house. I started leading rosary everyday in the house. I had to pretend that i still believed till I finished from University. But guess what, my mom now gradually understands some of the points I've been making, after introducing her to nairaland few years ago, she became exposed to other religious views and that has opened her eyes. Its certainly not an easy road to start undoing all the effects of the indoctrination and brain washing but one has to try. |
Greatihex:Once again, you are hand picking favourable parts that suit you. However, I still can't tell if you have actually read the Bible whole and if you have, I can't understand the rationale behind you worshipping such a jealous, genocidal, wicked, inhumane character and mass murderer. I mean, if you had such a character today who did half of what the god of the Bible did, you will definitely call for his death much less think of worshipping the character. Indeed this is what the Boko Haram extremists are doing. They are also following the instructions of that same God to the letter but you do condemn them don't you? But if your daddy G.O. today called upon you today to pick up arms today and convert "souls" for Christ, wouldn't you be the first in line to do so?? I'll pick some verses of the Bible for you to prove my points. Hosea 16;3 The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be smashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open.” In that verse above, because a group of people rebelled against him, he commanded a genocide against them, not sparing even innocent children, he further instructed that pregnant womens stomach be ripped apart and their unborn children be slain. I want to reason deeply about this particular verse and tell me you are not offended that someone would be this inhumane, in today's term they are ruthless dictators. If you are not offended by this, then know that you possess the trait of a serial killer. |
raumdeuter:You know that both the house of representatives and the Senate are called congress. I meant that the democrats would win both houses by November. By the way, what is your take on this footballers issue, players not wanting to take pay cuts and owners taking advantage of the government scheme. If you were a player or owner, what will be your stance? |
seankafor:Don't mind the ignorant and shallow fellow. He believes only what he has been told from birth rather than educating himself further. |
Leyqute: afrodoc2:At this stage he definitely can't run as an independent. I don't see Trump winning this election, you know that for past 30 years, the democrats have the largest coalition of voting blocks; they have more women supporters, they solidly have the black votes, they have more than 80% of the Latino votes and now the young progressives like AOC and the rest. The republicans have just the old people's votes and all rural population. The last two republican presidents lost the popular votes because of the swing voters which are comprised of blue and white collar voters. The core of the working middle class and I don't see them voting for Trump like last time. Trump hedged all his bet on the economy because of this bloc and right now, it's in tatters. Democrats are going to take back congress this November for sure. |
Greatihex:Of course you would quote a part of the Bible that suits your narrative at this point, the same bible that enabled and justifies slavery. The same bible that justifies genocide and mass murders. I find it hypocritical when Christians criticize Boko Haram activities when the two religions share almost same ideologies. The owner/CEO of this site once gave a nice summary of this bible and ideology you share. Seun: |
Greatihex:Rather than address the point I raised, you said you will pray for me, why haven't you prayed for the suffering innocent children with terminal diseases at hospitals? Why does your "god" let them die? Let me guess, her ways are mysterious and she should never be questioned, right? You have to acknowledge that when you pray, you are just talking to yourself, at that very moment, there is very little difference between you and a patient in an asylum who soliloquises constantly. Get yourself to ask some important questions.
|
Greatihex:Continue to allow yourself to be brainwashed, he prayed for the Holy Ghost fire to burn those who wish you bad, what happened to gods unbridled love for his creation? My friend, start thinking for yourself! I know the path to questioning all you have known all your life is very difficult, but you have to start questioning what you believe else you are not much different from the Boko Haram extremists. Unbridled faith without evidence is a very dangerous disease.
|
Melvyn11:The major reasons for his election in the first place have been eliminated. You know that swing voters are the most important voting bloc in the elections. Don't forget that trump lost the popular vote with a historic gap for a president. He campaigned seriously on strong economic and immigration reforms. His main selling point was his antiestablishmeet stance but with his obvious corruption and impeachment, that stance won't hold. He has ended up as an impeached president and the economy will definitely not be rejigged healthily by November. I don't see swing voters still turning up enmass for him. That popular vote gap might double. At this point, most Americans would prefer a vegetable to Trump. |
Ibime:Rather than act decisively, trump went to continue playing gulf. Even when the virus had started getting severe, rather than lead by example via the safe public health practices, he continued to shake hands with all and sundry. Trump is definitely the most divisive leader in our generation. He creates and supports all sorts of false dramatic conspiracy theories and his gullible base guzzles it all. Not to talk of his brazen corruption, his family's wealth will definitely quadruple after his stay in office. The fact Americans don't react negatively about his children holding executive financial positions surprises me. I definitely don't see him winning reelection. |
A40:I was seriously hoping Trump actually caught the virus. Trump continued to downplay the seriousness of this pandemic till it became obvious. I just read an article detailing the timeline of trump's denial of the virus till it actually hit him squarely in the face. From saying he had it under perfect control to calling it a democrats hoax till it dawned on him that more than 150 thousand souls will be lost. As for Boris who wanted herd immunity, the undertakers are getting dressed and waiting ![]()

airmark:What did he do? |
Nawa ooo ![]() |
That's not fair, this was how blacks were treated at the height of HIV\AIDS epidemic. |
airmark:Did you just compare yourself to dangote ![]() You are an slowpoke who is highly deluded. See this wretched pauper ooo. ![]() The amount of rubbish that comes out of your mouth portrays a gross failure of intelligence and sanity. I have told you to take time off this forum and examine your continuous failed existence in this life. Right now you are a boil in the ass of humanity .
|
Airmark don suffer no be small ![]() I've advised him before to take a mini break from nairaland, he's totally addicted and all he does on a daily basis is just to fight with one person or the other. His main problem is his arrogance when arguing. You will think you're discussing with a normal human being, next thing he starts throwing insults around and getting personal. He's certainly the most controversial being on this thread. ![]() |
Finally Ibime get mouth ooo. ![]() Ibime: |
Dayo, need I remind you that there have been many mega corporations with valuations of over 500 billion dollars and over 200 thousand employees that went under and the effect didn't necessarily tumble the market. Companies like blackberry, Nokia, Kodak, blockbuster etc. They crashed and better companies like Netflix, apple etc took their place. That's the effect of a free market. For a long time, Americans have kicked against this cash infusions into big corporations because they only work for the short term and do fail many at times and that is why people prefer these huge amounts being given to the small and local businesses directly. Reagan was the first to try this big time. Reaganomics was in essence a trickle down economy where there were huge tax cuts for the ultra wealthy corporations and individuals in the belief that the corporate surplus would trickle down to the common man, while these looked like it worked in the short-term, it ended up leading to massive overvaluation of stock and subsequently the 1987 crash. Trickle down economics doesn't work in the long term. It only makes the rich, richer. Dayo, let me ask you this, do you think it is okay that the top 26 individuals are wealthier than half of the global population? |
obainojazz:I had no idea diggz was also in diaspora, as for the other one, I said expatriates not exconvicts who disgrace their fatherland. ![]() |
Excallibur: This thread really is the best, I believe people are drawn here because of the colourful characters here and then the expatriates in diaspora like Ibime, Raumdeuteur, afrodoc, chic2pimp,A40 etcMoreso, it's like a multi-purpose thread, on some days, you see stupidly comedic comments and characters, the next moment, you're seeing brilliant political, social and economic analysis. Then you have the ultimate football banters and many more educational info. The thread is my number 1 thread on nairaland. ![]() This was how Manchester Uniteds thread used to be before key brilliant individuals left there. ![]() |
