Actually, Nnenne has it stuck somewhere else in her anatomy, along with her Arse-nal pennant.

and then Alfred Hitchcock shouted "Cut!"

donjohano: Al, this isn't a movie.

Hitchcock: Well, it should be, all this inconsequential dialogue going absolutely nowhere.

donjhano: Sorry Al, it's a blog story.

Hitchcock: What's that?

donjohano: It's a long story. Literally.

Hitchcock: The more I learn, the less I understand.

donjohano: Look, we're holding up the plot here.

Hitchcock: Ahah! Then it is a movie! Where's my blonde?

donjohano: eh?

Hitchcock: I always have a blonde in my films - Kim Novak in Vertigo, Grace Kelly in To Catch A Thief and Dial M For Murder, Janet Leigh in Psycho.

donjohano: We're Nigerians, Hitch. No blondes here.

Hitchcock: You're African?

donjohano: Yep.

Hitchcock: All of you?

donjohano: Yep.

Hitchcock: Well, that doesn't matter. We can have a black blonde. What about that singer, Bouncy?

donjohano: You mean Beyonce? She'll cost a lot of money.

Hitchcock: Doesn't matter. This is Hollywood!

donjohano: Actually, it's more like Nollywood.

Hitchcock: eh?

donjohano: It's a long story.

Donjohano re-entered the thread and realised that if he were to make any meaningful contribution to this epic narrative, he would have to start from the very beginning. He groaned in sheer agony at the thought and decided to kill off all of the characters, one by one.

And this how he went about it,

@drionnelli - don't you love the way Wes Montgomery (Far Wes) played his solos by fingering both ends of the octave simultaneously? Did anyone do that before? Charlie Christian in the Benny Goodman Band, or Django Reinhardt?
Music/RadioRe: Let's Talk Jazz by donjohano(m): 3:55pm On Jun 17, 2007
By the way, I saw Earl Klugh and Lagbaja in Lagos a few months ago - they played together at the end. Superb stuff!

Charlie "Bird" Parker affected every musician regardless of what instrument they played. The biggest musical advance since Louis Armstrong.

Louis Armstrong had a similar effect in the 1920s with his Hot Five and Seven bands. People tend to remember Armstrong as a vocalist with a broad grin on his face. Originally, he only sang as an extra attraction during gigs.

Let me inform those who don't know, that if Armstrong had died in 1930 (and not forty years later), his legacy would have been intact as probably the most influential musician of the 20th century.

Music/RadioRe: Coldplay Is The Best Band Ever! by donjohano(m): 7:07pm On Jun 16, 2007
Fine band - but The Beatles album "REVOLVER" still the rock album to beat (if one can talk about "beating" when it comes to art). None of them older than 25 when it came out in mid-1966.

1966!

What about "INNERVISIONS" by the 23 year old Stevie Wonder - recorded 1973.

Please listen to those albums and then talk about Coldplay in the same breath.

Your Coldplay, etc are standing on the shoulders of giants - and still stand slightly shorter, I'm afraid.

Music - I play guitar and write songs. And Literature. There's a novel in me somewhere.

But I ended up a lawyer.
HealthRe: Lemon & Hiv/aids by donjohano(m): 2:34am On Jun 06, 2007
@whiteroses - you have a point. I'm not advocating that guys stop wearing condoms. I'm simply saying that this "lemon juice" idea should be scientifically tested before people dismiss it out of hand. Meanwhile, ladies, insist that your man wears a condom.
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by donjohano(m): 2:29am On Jun 06, 2007
I've explained this already - it's a question of speaking in your mother tongue which makes the actor's expression more credible, not what tribe (s)he is.
LiteratureRe: Who Is Your Best Novelist? by donjohano(m): 4:12pm On Jun 04, 2007
@omotee4u - I've read Fools Die by Mario Puzo (twice). It has more depth in characterisation than the Godfather. Partly set amid the gamblers - winners and losers in Las Vegas. My favourite novel of recent years is "Underworld" by Don DeLillo. The first 50 pages - astonishing writing - an account of an actual baseball game which took place in the 50's. I defy you not to read on.

An interesting thread - from potboilers to literature. I read them all myself. Several Ludlum fans, I see. He's been dead several years and the books keep coming out! The publishers would have us believe that he had several manuscripts lying about.

African-American rock group Living Colour (yeah, they spelt it the English way, with a "u"wink. 80s - 90s. Remember them?
Someone mentioned The Doors - great band. From the 60s - great decade musically.

You must have felt like this yourself. Pretty good - I particularly like "thunderings from the cage in her chest" - vivid imagery. Keep it up. Get published.
