Reverend, I wasn't making an artistic appraisal. US culture is dominant- movies, music, etc. It may be well be shit but that's what is ruling the airwaves right now. Capisce? |

Dear people, the title of this thread misses the point. The reason why Yoruba-speaking actors seem "better" by which I presume is meant "more convincing", is that they are speaking in their native tongue. When an actor speaks in his first language, there is no barrier between the actor and his material. English-speaking actors (Ibo, for the most part) are speaking a foreign, second language and have yet to find the right intonation, nuance for a particular scene. But watch those same actors speaking acting and speaking Igbo then even non-Igbo speaking viewers would immediately find their performances bringing a more powerful impact. Its not a question of ethnicity. |
I was born and bred in the UK (am currently on one of my periodical stints in Nigeria) so I'm undoubtedly biased in favour of the UK. However, I can understand why most Nigerians, if given the choice, would overwhelmingly opt for the US. The USA is the most powerful (politically, miltarily, technlogically, financially and culturally) nation on earth. As John Lennon said, when asked why he left England to live in New York, "during the Roman Empire, you would have wanted to live in Rome". So he moved to NYC. My favourite place of all the places I've visited in the US over the years is NYC, simply because it reminds me of London - its multinational flavour - only London and New York are "world cities" in that respect. Actually, what I've written makes the point that it is the LOCATION WITHIN THE COUNTRY, not necessarily the country as a whole, which dictates one's preference - I can't live in Middlesborough, England anymore than I could live in Hicksville, USA. |
Hell hath no fury like a female football fan! Abacha is like Chelsea? SMC, my dear girl, watch your mouth before Mourinho stuffs it full with some Portuguese sausage! Then again, you'd probably enjoy it, |
Bloody hell! This has escalated from buka food to the end of a relationship! So, my dear jesusfreak, this was NOTHING to do with buka food - buka food was just one symptom of a dying relationship! |
Here endeth the lesson, |

Remember when the idea of an international premier league was proposed a while back? It would consist of the top 3 or 4 clubs from the English, Scottish, French, German, Italian, and Spanish leagues - i.e., the richest clubs. An idea whose time has come? |
Why are we all online instead of partying tonite? |
Its been a hard days nite. But let me not hijack tolu's thread, |
Cute-ass, you sound in a great mood - cheer me up! |
Ok, so he buys you buka food. Maybe he just rates you at that level. You didn't say whether he actually takes you to the buka for both of you to dine there. Maybe he's too ashamed to be seen with you even in a buka! So he probably sends you to go and collect the buka food for both of you to eat at his place. I think we should be told, |
HI THERE |
Now, what male behavioural/mental characteristics turn you ladies off? |
Some interesting male reactions to this thread. These same guys diss unattractive girls on an hourly basis at work, at college, etc, now they're complaining like a bunch of little schoolboys because the ladies find them too short/fat/hairyplain ugly. If you can't take it, don't dish it out fellas. Now you know what it's like to be assessed on your physical features alone! Men truly are the vainer sex. I await the backlash. Bring it on. |
An awful tragedy. Unfortunately, helicopters are so small and vulnerable that when they crash, it is a miracle if anybody survives. May they rest in peace. |
Easy enough having an open marriage/relationship when you're the one being open with everonr in sight. Just try and handle your partner's infidelity. See how secure you'll feel then, |
This deception is a shaky foundation for a marriage. At the very least, postpone the nuptials and think this through very carefully. There is someone out there for you who does not have this baggage to encumber your marriage. You don't need this at the beginning of life's journey together. |
For your information, the software piracy rate in Nigeria is around 84% (typical of sub-saharan Africa outside of South Africa). This means that 4 out of every 5 items of software in Nigeria is either counterfeit, unlicensed and unpaid for. This amounts to a loss of at least $80 million (yes, dollars) per annum which could be taxed and the tax revenue ploughed back into developing the indigenous software/IT industry. The statistics are from IDC, a leading market research firm specializing in this sector. By the way, the software piracy rate in South Africa is around 36%, UK 27%, USA 21% (the lowest rate worldwide, but the highest losses financially due to the amount of software deployed). It is individuals like you who are contributing to this crime which is also used by crime syndicates to fund terrorism, and other crimes. Enjoy your downloads. Have a nice day. |
The way to a man's heart thru his stomach? Of course - with cholesterol-laden food leading to myocardial infarction (heart attack). |
That's right - Chelsea, Schumacher, Federer - winners are all boring, right? Jealousy rules. |
I love it when ladies are so open like this! |
I am what I am - a cynic. Looks like Man U have wrapped up the Premiership - just 4 points needed from 3 games I believe. BUT, Chelsea can still win the FA cup (sweet Fanny Adams Cup), and the Champions League IF we beat the KOP at Anfield. Here's a thread for the ARSENAL fans - why do their African players play for France and not for their respective countries (Roy Keane taunted Patrick Vieira with that same question). |
Nah - since the 70s - You've got to know the history. I have SUFFERED for this club!Let me enjoy the Abramovich/Mourinho era - because, it won't last. Chelsea will drop down to their usual 4th/5th place and play one outstanding game every month with a few players leftover once the rush to leave post-Mourinho begins in August. |
This thread discriminates against Aquarians! |
