By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA—-The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, this morning, arraigned the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, retd, before an Abuja High Court sitting at Maitama over a fresh 19-count criminal charge. Dasuki was docked alongside the erstwhile Director of Finance in the Office of the NSA, Mr. Shuaibu Salisu, former Executive Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Commission, NNPC, Aminu Baba-Kusa, as well as his companies, Acacia Holding Limited and Reliance Referal Hospital Limited. Meantime, the accused persons who were alleged to have illegally diverted over N13.6billion from the national treasury, pleaded not guilty to the entire charge, even as Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf adjourned till Tuesday to hear their separate applications for bail. Specifically, EFCC, alleged that it was the accused persons that supervised the unlawful disbursement of billions of Naira from different bank accounts belonging to the office of the NSA. The funds were allegedly distributed to delegates to the Presidential Primary Election the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP held in Abuja, a process that saw the emergence of ex-President Jonathan as the sole candidate for the party. The EFCC, among other things, alleged that the sum of N13.570 billion, being money for an “agreement”, between Dasuki and the ex-Director of Finance in the office of the NSA, Salisu, was looted from the national treasury. They were said to have transferred a total sum of N1.45b to Acacia Holdings Limited’s account for special prayers; N2.1b given to DAAR Investment and Holding Company Limited for publicity; N170m for a four-bedroom duplex; N380m to support re-election of members of the House of Representatives; and N750m paid into Reliance Referral Hospital Limited’s account for special prayers. Besides, EFCC said its investigations revealed that N670m was paid to certain publisher, N260m transferred to Tony Anenih and N345million traced to a former President of the Senate, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu. The Commission said it has not been able to trace the ex-Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Hon. Waripamowei Dudafa, who it said was “on the run”. More details soon. Cc: lalasticlala http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/alleged-n13-6bn-fraud-dasuki-others-plead-not-guilty-to-fresh-charges/ |

Baba abeg we need names ooooooooooooooooooooo |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday promised to reveal the names of former government officials who have voluntarily returned looted funds to the coffers of the Federal Government in “due course”, saying that early disclosure of their identities “may jeopardize the possibility of bigger recoveries.” “In due course, the Central Bank of Nigeria will make information available to the public on the surrendered funds,” said President Buhari at the 2015 edition of the annual Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation Lecture in Lagos. He said his government owes Nigerians adequate information on recovery of looted funds, explaining that it is part of the collective effort to change the country from the “bastion of corruption it currently is, to a place of probity and transparency”. In his speech, Buhari said his government has identified corruption as the major problem facing the country. He noted that the phenomenon must be curtailed if the issues of collapsing educational system, diversification of our economy, fostering a welfare based agenda for the disadvantaged, infrastructural development, which were central to his government’s change agenda, could be effectively tackled. “The primary attention that tackling corruption earned in the course of our campaign and in determining the final outcome of the election underpins how seriously Nigerians see corruption as a fundamental factor crippling the progress and development of the country. Nigerians are, indeed, convinced that except we curtail corruption, the country will remain in perennial regression. “It is upon this conviction of our people that corruption poses great danger and should be curtailed that we anchor our hope. It underpins our assurance that the efforts of this government in checking corruption will yield significant successes in the final outcome. “In other words, we note that sheer heroism cannot achieve the elimination of corruption from our social space. What is most required is the conviction of the populace that corruption is an antithesis to social cohesion and development, and must be eliminated. We must get to a point where every Nigerian begins to hate corruption with a passion, and collectively determine to root it out of our body polity.” Cc: lalasticlala http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/12/those-who-returned-stolen-funds-will-be-named-in-due-course-buhari/ |

congratulations Umahi |
The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu on Friday upheld the election of Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi in the case brought against his election by Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Chief Edward Nkwegu. An election petition tribunal had in October in Abakaliki dismissed the petition filled by Chief Nkwegu challenging the declaration of Umahi as winner of April 11 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for lacking in merit and the inability of the petitioner to prove allegations of corrupt practices and criminalities as contained in the petition. Dissatisfied with the judgment of the tribunal, the petitioner proceeded to the court of appeal sitting in Enugu to challenge the verdict. In the appeal filed by his counsel, Chief U.N Udechukwu (SAN), Nkwegu prayed the court to set aside the judgment of the tribunal, describing the verdict as a grave error of law. He urged the court to annul the election of Umahi with fresh election conducted, adding that the governorship election was marred by widespread irregularities. A certain Mr. Bright (surname withheld) has been arrested by officers of Ejigbo police station for beating his wife to death. Mr. Bright and his late wife reside in Olusesi Street in Idimu road, Ejigbo Lagos. DAILY POST gathered that the couple, who have been married for years, were known for their constant domestic violence. Resident told our correspondent that argument ensued between the couple over feeding expense. The woman, it was gathered, called her husband ‘irresponsible man’. Angered by the wife’s unguarded outburst, the husband descended on her with countless punches till she collapsed and died on the spot. “When the man noticed his wife was dead, he quickly removed the body and put inside his car boot,” the resident said. However, luck ran out of the man after a neighbour spotted him and raised alarm, which attracted other tenants. The prompt intervention of the security men saved the man from being lynched by some angry youths. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the police station. When our reporter visited the street on Thursday, residents of the areas were seen discussing the incident in groups. A source said the remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary in the area.
