Recent findings have revealed why Senator Buruji Kashamu, withdrew the N20billion libel suit he had slammed on former President Olusegun Obasanjo, despite their long standing differences. According to reports, Kashamu had withdrawn the suit following an alleged reconciliatory move by Obasanjo, after the former reportedly saved the later from being poisoned. The entire story had started unfolding when policemen from the Zone 2 command, Onikan, Lagos, arrested two persons who allegedly posed as daughter to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and an intelligence officer. The duo, Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu, were said to have approached Kashamu on the pretence that they would resolve the political rift between him and the former president. The suspects, who were arraigned at the Igbosere Magistrate Court on June 5, 2015 and have since been remanded at Kirikiri Prisons, had allegedly planned to poison Obasanjo. The suspects were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo and their matter was adjourned to July 31, 2015, for further hearing. They were arrested following a complaint lodged by Kashamu at Zone 2, last month, after they met him on May 8, 2015, and allegedly demanded for an unspecified amount from him in order to harm Obasanjo. After the report by Kashamu, the X-Squad of the command were detailed to investigate the matter and during investigation, it was discovered that the suspects claims of being close to the former president was false. The police report in response to Kashamu’s petition read thus, “The fact of the case was that the complainant alleged in his verbal complaint that the duo of Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu falsely represented themselves as an intelligence officer and daughter to the former President Obasanjo respectively. “This was under the pretence that they were going to resolve the political rift between him and Obasanjo. “He stressed that the duo met with him at a hotel, where the latter who had collected N500,000 from his younger brother, made some uncomplimentary and derogatory remarks that Obasanjo ‘is so bad and wicked to the extent that his staff hate and are unhappy with him. “Hence, they said they would poison him if they see the opportunity” one of them introduced herself as Yetunde Obasanjo to him. “He added that he had to report to the police upon his suspicion of foul play by the suspects. Investigation conducted revealed that the duo were impersonators. “From the foregoing, it was established that both Uwakala and Alaegbu actually committed the offences alleged by the complainant and have been charged accordingly in line with the prescription of the law.” Confirming this, the senator’s media aide, Mr. Austin Onyokor said: “The report shows how Kashamu saved Obasanjo from food poisoning despite their political differences. “It was based on this gesture by Senator Kashamu that Chief Obasanjo said he had forgiven him of all their differences and Kashamu in turn decided to withdraw the N20billion libel suit against the ex-president. “Kashamu’s conduct goes a long way to show that despite his political differences on principles with Obasanjo, he does not wish him Obasanjo ill because he respects the sanctity of human life and also fears God.”

Business mogul, Aliko Dangote, is insisting that soon he will have “enough time and enough resources” to buy Arsenal Football Club, whatever the price. Dangote, 58, is Africa’s richest man having amassed a fortune in the region of $18.4 billion (£12.2 billion). He is currently the 67th richest man in the world. He first spoke of his interest in purchasing the Gunners two years ago and restated it last month when he admitted that one day he hoped to buy the club, adding that he already knew his strategy to take them forward. That day may arrive sooner than first expected, with Dangote telling the BBC wednesday that the completion of his proposed oil refinery in Nigeria would provide the funds necessary to launch a takeover of the club. “When we get this refinery on track, I will have enough time and enough resources to pay what they are asking for,” he told the BBC Hausa service. “There were a couple of us who were rushing to buy, and we thought with the prices then, the people who were interested in selling were trying to go for a kill,” Dangote continued. “We backtracked, because we were very busy doing other things, especially our industrialisation.” “They are doing well, but they need another strategic direction,” he added. “They need more direction than the current situation, where they just develop players and sell them.” Stan Kroenke is Arsenal’s majority shareholder, with the American owning 66.64 per cent of the club’s parent company, Arsenal Holdings Plc.

A 21 year- old female student of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Miss Morenikeji Owolabi, was reportedly butchered by suspected ritualists at Eposo-Akaka community, Isara in Remo-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Police said yesterday that five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, while the suspected herbalist who allegedly lured the victim to the shrine, Femi Awise, is on the run. The suspects include the Okada rider who conveyed the victim to the shrine, Adeyemi Ademolu, an apprentice to Awise, Omolasi Taiwo, Lateef Ali, Akinyemi Dare, and Sokoya Wasiu. The state Commissioner of Police, Valentine Ntomchukwu, who led a team of journalists to the shrine located in the forest said investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances which led to Morenikeji’s murder and the motive behind it. “The most scary aspect was that we found an iron pot which was filled with some of the victim’s flesh which had been cooked. It was kept on a stand, oozing with a terrible odour. The decomposing legs of the victim dug out of the shallow grave where they were buried some few metres away from the shrine were also discovered. However, the head of the victim and other vital parts like breasts, hands, and vagina among others were not found. But something that looked like her liver was placed on a fire place outside”, he said. The local government chairman, Femi Soyemi, expressed shock over the incident. He said, “I was shocked because I never expected this kind of horrible and brutal thing here.” Ntomchukwu said the shrine was discovered through discreet investigation by his men. In another development, a 40-year-old kidnapper, Emeka Obi, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping a 97-year-old man, Iposiola Samaiye. He said Obi, a member of a kidnapping syndicate operating in Ijebu axis, said his accomplice, Prince, has gone into hiding. |

APC lawmakers-elect and some chieftains of the party had converged for the meeting only to hear that elections were going on at the National Assembly and that Senator Bukola Saraki had emerged the new Senate President. It was reported that the members-elect, while waiting for the arrival of the President, started discussing in one of the meeting rooms in the conference center while journalists were barred from knowing what was going on. After waiting for about two hours, the lawmakers, most of them members of the House of Reps stormed out of the conference center with the realisation that the situation at the Senate had happened behind them. Present at the ICC meeting were some APC governors, chieftains of the party and former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu. The Spokesman of the party, Lai Mohammed, arrived several hours later. In a swift reaction to the development, the party Chairman and some members of the APC who spoke to Channels Television said that they were studying the situation and would react at the right time. So much drama for today....Hmmm...PMB is a wise man to beat...Tinubu should watch out..Baba cannot depend on him.... |
