Now they are talking. This is the kind of demand that we Niger Deltans want and not the release of one Nnamdi Kanu that doesn't belong to us. I support every genuine effort made( whether violent or peaceful) to draw the attention of the FG and the international community to the plight of Niger Deltans. Now they are being reasonable and I'm sure any reasonable govt would now take them seriously. Unreasonable things like defreezing of Tompolo's account and the release of Dasuki and Kanu should be part of their demands at all, otherwise that would make them appear political and unreasonable |

What happened to it? Why couldn't she save the FG's share if she really wanted to save. Again, the governors alleged that she was spending the money without their consent, hence she was compelled to share the money. She has long confirmed that allegation when she said GEJ ordered her to withdraw $2b from the ECA. So stop making excuses for her. Even the governors in PDP couldn't trust her and GEJ with their money. |

For those of you berating OBJ for supporting PMB, I'm not sure you read the write-up very well. He did that because of the reality of Nigeria becoming a failed state that we were faced with at that time because of the threat of Boko Haram. He's actually been proven right by the succeses made in the fight against BH. I'm sure his reason for that was that no nation can talk of prosperity amd economic gains when terrorism is reigning supreme in it. OBJ knew GEJ couldn't help the BH issue and decided to support PMB whom he knew could do it. Concerning PMB's shortcomings in economic issues, he sought to balance that by trying to make NOI PMB's running mate, but she refused, apparently because of her loyalty to GEJ. But Baba should calm down, PMB has capable enough hands to assist him in running the economy, afterall he didn't run the economy all by himself then. He had people like NOI, ezekwesili, Soludo, El-rufai and so on. It is equally important to know that PMB is doing better than him in terms of anticorruption. PMB has a better image of integrity than him too. One thing that you can't take away from Baba is his love for Nigeria. He's a very patriotic Nigerian and always looks beyond political lines when making decisions on national issues. But his arrogance and holier-than-thou disposition gets the better of him when making assessments of his predecessors and successors. |

donogaga: The Niger Delta crisis is a serious matter that requires serious policy and committed and courageous leadership to resolve.
The Niger Delta has been complaining about environmental damage from oil exploration and rising unemployment and poverty in the region, but the successive governments and the multi-national oil corporations have been insensitive to the plight of the people. The people have endured a long history ofeconomic and social injustice and they are now “tired of being at the bottom.”
I don't support the activities of the militants, but the truth is that, we the people of Niger Delta have been suffering from environmental degradation and pollution through oil spillage and gas flaring. There are many other “Tales of Agony” strewn the landscape that I do not deem necessary to drop here.
The crisis in the Niger Delta is not complex by itself. But the approach to resolving it makes it complex and dangerous. Thepeople are not asking for anything out of the ordinary. The region that is home to Nigeria’s oil wealth remains the mostimpoverished community in the nation. What a paradox! Travel down to the communities and you will notice the lack of basic infrastructure, good network of roads, health care facilities, good schools and portable water etc.
The oil wealth is not being used to develop the area. The successive governments have collected billions of dollars from the land over the decades, but little (if any) has been invested in the area to improve the people’s living conditions. Is there anything wrong in investing some money that are realized from the oil extracted from the region to improve the people’s living conditions?
The main causes of Niger Delta crisis include greed and selfishness, deprivation and poverty, and “social injustice.” Thesimple meaning of social justice, according to experts, is that the same contribution equals the same benefit. A person’s“benefit" equals his or her “contribution.” And no community should be given more when it contributes less or be given less when it contributes more!
That is the crux of the matter in the Niger Delta crisis! The Niger Delta is contributing a lot to the economic well being of Nigeria and it is getting nothing, but destruction, in return. Without social justice there will be no peace in the Niger Delta and socioeconomic development will continue to elude the region. Social justice is an important ingredient for “socioeconomic development.” It creates “a healthy, harmonious, reliable social psychological atmosphere that willstimulate economic development.” And because of social injustice the entire nation is slowly becoming politically and economically very unstable.
God bless Nigeria!!! No one is saying that these problems don't exist in the ND. But the question on the lips of everyone is why the renewed hostilities when they seem to have died down. When GEJ was in power and was awarding security contracts to the tune of billions of Naira to few ND warlords we didn't hear of vandalism. What has really changed in the way ND was being treated under GEJ and now in terms of developmental projects, nothing. The amnesty programme is still running, ministry of ND is still in existence, NDDC still runs, 13percent derivation still exists etc. If anything things have actually changed for the better because programmes and projects that have been abandoned in the past by previous govts including the govt of our brother are now being looked into. Such include clean-up of Ogoni, Lagos-Calabar railway, East-west road and so on. We are quick to blame the FG for neglecting the ND but not quick enough to blame our brothers that head ministry of ND and NDDC year in year for their unpatriotic acts of embezzling the money meant to develop the ND. Even the governors of states in the ND are not left out. They earn more than other states yet have nothing to show for their earnings. They only use their earnings to service the political class. The governor of my beloved Delta state for example has over 500 aides. So let the Niger delta people supping this govt especially as it has shown commitment to develop the ND and avoid being used by a few people to achieve their selfish desires. |

Nonsense That's why they are calling you ignorant. It's the members of the senate themselves that draft and approve the senate rules and not any clerk. We know the majority in rivers claim to be Christians but that does not mean they own the state more than asari dokubo and his converts. The governor is not a religious leader as such he should refrain from making such statements. Why not channel the money he intends to spend on this wasteful venture to paying the fees of the rivers state students stranded abroad due to his scrapping of RSSDA.
Leave trash for RIWAMA. And to think that he suspended the overseas scholarship programme on the excuse of paucity of funds only to turn round to sponsor the jamboree excursion called pilgrimage is laughable and a clear indication that Wike is visionless and only plays to the gallery |

The only beneficiaries are government officials who use the opportunity to misappropriate public funds, families and friends of government officials who enjoy the privilege of all-expense paid trip to Israel and the country Israel where they travel to. The average Rivers Christian on the street doesn't have the opportunity to enjoy that privilege because he's not close to politicians. |

PRXPERT: For me, I don't hide my opinion about things like this, I don't try to impress anyone or to be politically correct. I will allow you to bring up the ibaka sea project by Godswill Akpabio, you will discover the way some sections of the media propagated how unviable the project will be, they attacked and attacked the project to a halt.. now fast forward to 2016 a railway project was claimed to have budgeted for in this year infrastructure budget to a whooping sum of 60billion dollars.. choi! and the national assembly removed them because they are hindering the success of PMB (that's what they want us to believe)lol.. This same project was denied by Budgit.com at least they're somehow credible because they published the first budget when it was passed, stolen, padded and represented again (LWTMB! this budget don suffer what a funny country). Now looking at the attention diversion strategy the conspirators of this drama, actually wanted to put the masses against nass, and absorb PMB from the blame. now ask yourself, why did the newspapers report that the Nass removed those project, ? "Mind you the main target here is Calabar -lagos railway line" the reason is to divert attention and blame... Then on another angle, why is the railway line seem to be more important to calabar than to lagos? what and what have changed on viability of calabar/akwaibom to host sea port, but railway line by some sections of the media propaganda. The answer is simple, the railway line is a project that's aimed at diverting attention and those supporting it now, are supporting it because it's not a project that will give you (south south) economic independence, rather a parasitic one to lagos... why not use that same money to make all the coastlines viable for goods and services.. they will come and tell me how important the mirage railway line will be,but they'll never tell you same about ibaka sea shine your eyes! this project is a poisonous project aimed at diverting a lot of things not only attention! You write like a kid sir. Political correctness won't kill you in Jesus name! And what is it wit 'diverting attention' , did you come across it newly? |
