Alliance (NPA) yesterday threatened that the region
will consider seceeding from Nigeria if President
Jonathan is barred by the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) from contesting the 2015 election on its
platform. Rising from a meeting, the group in a Communiqué
entitled, ‘2015: Time to bid Nigeria farewell’, said
the condition given by seven PDP governors that
Jonathan should not contest in 2015 as a ground for
the restoration of peace to PDP was insulting and
humiliating. The Communiqué jointly signed by Deacon Angoneme
Fedude and Nsikak Ebong, president and general
secretary respectively argued that the move to stop
Jonathan from re-contesting the top office was being
conceived because the president is from the South-
South. The group said: “President Goodluck Jonathan must
be allowed to exercise his constitutionally guaranteed
right of seeking a second term in the 2015 elections.
But in the event of any attempt by any individual or
group to deprive him of his democratic rights, we
have resolved to match force for force, even if it will lead to Nigeria’s disintegration.” Condemning political developments in the last couple
of days, NPA said it had “monitored, with deep
concern, the trend of events in the country,
particularly the various efforts at truncating the
administration of President Jonathan. “While we had opted to remain on the sidelines and
watched the plot against Jonathan as it unfolded right
from the period he assumed the mantle of leadership
as acting president, we view the recent move by a
group of northern governors, self-acclaimed political
leaders and elders, led by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to illegally stop Dr. Jonathan from contesting the 2015
presidential elections as the highest threat to the
continued existence of the minorities of the South-
South region in Nigeria as a political entity.

Buhari cannot win anywhere in most states of the south where all u need to scare them from voting him is to raise Islamic fundamentalism and use boko haram terror campaign to further drive home your point, its all politics, u use whatever u ve got to win election. Ribadu has no single political, base same as El rufai whose recent statements in social network has drawn bitter enmity from many Nigerians. South East, South South and North Central are sure bankers for PDP. Historically, these zones have never been in opposition. Even the North West and N East will always sway for the ruling party. An hausa fulani man loves power and doesn't like to be left out. Its Yar Adua's death and GEJ's emergence as president that seems to make NorthEast n North west shaky and battle ground for both Pdp and Apc, otherwise these zones are always for any ruling party. Ask the whereabout of Northerners who left PDP for opposition platforms in 211, they all ran back after they lost. South West has historically been opposition hot bed right from the 60's. So it was a surprising anomally that PDP won in 2003, but that error has been reversed now. So APC will likely thrive only in South West eventhough there will be pockets of resistance by people who do not like Tinubu's dominance there, it will split votes with PDP in North West and North East should PDP field GEJ/ Non Hausa Fulani as its candidate, howevere having a solid base in ,North Central, South East and South South will assure it of a block vote and victory come 2015. So , no matter who APC brings as its candidate, odds stil favours PDP in 2015.

lekanolas: The apex northern socio-political organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, yesterday rejected the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election.

ACF Chairman, Alhaji Aliko Mohammed, made the forum’s position known during its annual general meeting held at its headquarters on Sokoto Road, Kaduna.

This is just as the forum accused President Jonathan of being behind the divide-and-rule tactics allegedly being used against the North ahead of 2015.

The ACF also moved against some of its members – former military administrator of Plateau State, Maj.-Gen. Lawrence Onoja, and Senator John Wash Pam both from the Middle Belt Region who were accused of being pro- Jonathan.

National Mirror had earlier reported that ACF chieftains were divided over the second term ambition of President Jonathan. They viewed the support of his Presidency as being inimical to northern interests.
