mattfeuter: Don’t speak on what you know nothing about. Mr man even the picture you posted clearly proves my point. "Enter the amount of pounds you want to buy and look at it's cost in Naira." This is simple English but I won't argue with you so case closed. |

LagosismyHome: Exactly you are agreeing with her without knowing it ..... using your example
your base value is 500k is in naira ( as in case of unilag school fees) or your worth, to know what that in value in pound so yes this is correct . You are trying to find what your 500 Ngn converts to Gbp .
For school fees you are doing the opposite, what does Gbp value converts to Ngn
It all depends on what currency is your base value . So your bold is exactly what we are saying you cannot do, you answered it yourself . UKVi says you need 20k pounds for you to show (the worth ) , what is that worth in naira, usd , cad to be in your bank. You dont get that rate by saying how much is naira to £ 20k. Exactly your bold. how much worth is 20k to the naira . 10 bottle of stout for you . |

mattfeuter: I don’t know you and don’t want to know you.
I stand by my format. Currency you have up. Currency you want down.
Ps: only the lowest of lows speak in parable, if you can’t call someone out with your chest, just zip it. Na wa o. Wahala for who no Sabi use Oanda currency converter. The only conclusion here is one should work with the one that is higher to be on the safer side. For me though "the currency I have" should be in British pounds and the currency I want should be in Naira. Even if you want to do a quick conversation on Google you start with how much is a dollar to naira not how many naira would give you a dollar when you don't even know the original conversation rate in the first place. If your way of doing it is the later then you must be one of those people who launches a new toothpaste by pressing the top not even the middle. Like how is it even possible sef? You don't know conversation rate of a pound to naira and you want to start by inputing naira first when it should be the other way round to get the conversation rate. |

Dj2019: Please, how is Birkbeck University? How is the education, Power and social change (MSc) course there? Is it a good School? Anyone studied, going there or know much about the School should help me. Do a research, and check reviews, go to their website look at the course modules, does it favor you? How will it be accessed then decide. That way even you will find reasons why you are choosing the school not because someone from Nairaland says so. Assuming there were still interviews a lot of people would be failing this simple question "Why the school?" due to lack of research.. |

Aprokodaughter: Reality ke? Na person wey no prepare and no no wetin e do here naim reality go dey begin certain.
Me wey don ready tey try. I no wetin I want at the end of the day.
The online meetings are in a way better because there are certain meetings wey me on a normal day no go attend. But with this online meetings I dey attend school events companies workshop even enterpreurship workshop etc.
Sometimes ask yeye questions and them go answer me.
Online lectures/meetings have their pro and cons. True. Also it mostly balls down to the school as well. Some Uni only want your money and don't organize activities that benefits students or even try reach out to their students one way or the other. That's why it's also important to check school reviews before making a choice not just choose any school because you want to japa. We all know no one expected covid so it isn't 100% their fault but an organised school will always find a way. |

toyclicks: Hi Fam.
Wow! Good to drop in here as a testifier to this place. Hope y'all doing fine.
Ok so....quick one. Let me share my experiences so far I now understand why ppl abroad find it difficult to have time. You almost have to plan your breath. Time is really a scarce commodity here. I don't know how all the good ppl here @justwise, @mimilyrics, @stenon et all. I don't know how you find time for this forum ooo. You were and are still a blessing. Whatever way you have been able to keep squeezing out the time to help ppl here, I would say its worth every part of it. Being a part if so many ppl's life journey and being a blessing to them is worth all the effort. So pls as God helps you, don't get tired.
Now....let me say this bitter truth. A bitter truth that ppl on this forum have quarrelled with Justwise for saying. This ppl included me.
This is not the best time to come to the Uk.. IOW, if you have the means to still chill in Nigeria for 6-12months, sadly, I would advise you to do so.
However, if you want to come and join us to whether this terrible tough period, I am not discouraging you. You are welcome.
Let he explain a bit. If your aim is really studying, don't come right now, else you won't get value for your money. The pandemic has really messed things up. The online class is BS. Even the schools don't know how to handle the situation yet. One other major thing is that networking is difficult. In 6 weeks I only had a class meeting once. Till now I only met one of my senior colleagues since I've been here. No one to come to your aid. You are all by yourself. Everyone is trying hard to survive. Everyone is really busy. No one has your time. No one is available to put you through things. This is when you will value trivial things like seeing your colleagues and lecturer to chat and discuss, holding physical meetings. Believe me, you can't fathom how much frustration this can be, esp when we are talking about something that involves more or less the biggest investment of your life yet. This new way of life has affected many things and not everyone is able to adjust to it.
Also, don't think the lecturers are available to help you. They are not available to "babysit" anybody. They expect at the masters level that you are really cooked and there are many things you are expected to know. Unfortunately for those of us coming from a place like Nigeria, believe me, we are really undercooked. Believe me, a primary school kid here will do much better than you. One of my coursemates confessed to me that it was her kids that helped her with her coursework when she couldn't get a hang of it. Her kids were born and grown here. So you get what I mean. It's so easy for them to flow. Long and short, there is so much catching up for you to do in order to come up to the same level with these ppl. ...And yes, ppl are really getting stranded. I already know ppl whom we moved together from this thread and left with the hope that they can hustle it out. They are getting stranded. Pls if you are coming at this period, you are better off with as much buffer finances as possible.
As regards jobs. There are jobs and there are no jobs. What do I mean? Jobs have really been reduced cos of the pandemic. However there are still some kind of jobs in some remote areas far from town. Transport cost on the long run might take a big chunk of the pay(like 30%). The distance is much( to is like 2½ hrs. Making 5hrs round trip for your job commute) hope you can understand now. The jobs are simply available there cos the location is far from availability of labor. So you count your cost.
I am just taking time to explain all these so you understand my reason for advising to chill a bit if you can
However, for all the ppl like me wet naija don tire. Make una dey come ooo abeg. We go rough am. We go survive.
I hope my msg is not all too negative. But I think it will be of good to you if you get the true and clear picture of things so you can make informed decisions.
I wish us all the best we can be.
Cheers to y'all. I hope to share more and sweeter experiences later Thanks for sharing your experiencing bro! |

dadawig: My course is for 15 months. However as the main applicant, I was not asked for Visa expiry date and I paid $1290.56. I read somewhere online that I am supposed to add 4 months to my course end date as Visa expiry date when paying IHS for dependants. See below what I read on Uni of Warwick website.
Please advise That may put your application in jeopardy when being accessed by Eco. I'll advice you to put the correct end date stated in your CAS and let the IHS calculator do the rest. The extra four months will be stated once your visa is out, not you adding it by yourself. |

Zemanova: Guys pls, assist a brother I once applied to Teesside Uni and filled the questionnaire, it's mostly credibility interview questions like why do you want to study in the UK? etc. Answers you can Google and search for online. Even add your reasons as well to make it substantial. Also your personal statement you wrote to the university when applying helps too in answering these questions. |
