It's goodnews, that finally, the isi gate market will be relocated to its permanent site @ Ubani. This is a great feat, that market really have to be moved and I thank the state government to making concerted effort towards making it a reality.

Politics / Believing And History In Abia By Ugochukwu Ezenwa. by donzico2: 11:58am On Aug 07, 2013
As earlier on acknowledged, using credible platforms of this magnitude, the demise of our political constraints authored by god-playing gladiators of yesteryears opened our eyes to the frightening enormity of infrastructural laybacks prevalent in the state. We doggedly soldiered on and anchored our implicit confidence on the virility of great things starting in small beginnings. In the proverbial twinkle of an eye, seeming impossibilities and intractable situations began to evaporate for us to behold and celebrate new vistas scarcely believed to be possible in the state.
IMG-20130706-00075 (800x600) IMG-20130706-00074 (800x600)
I have quietly thought hard about this, and the more I do, the more my submission rests on the vitality and inevitability of subscribing to the concept captured above. The much-expected will to devotedly believe in the workability of the state facilitated the emergence of a way. This exhilarating paradigm shift was critically needed to drive home the truth and sincerity of purpose which largely influenced our acceptance of the stewardship to govern, especially in the face of torrents of un-substantiated allegations, which increased in momentum during the atrocious days of belligerents who thrived in the illicit business of kidnapping.

Today’s vital stocktaking designed to torchlight the health delivery mileage in Abia State has increased my non-negotiable devotion to the potency of believing. The health delivery miracle in Abia is therefore vividly captured in the flashback of a humble beginning accommodated in the belief that we can locate at least a health centre in each of the wards in the state. We animated this belief beyond wishful thinking by quickly accepting the hand of fellowship offered by the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The resultant and cascading air of freshness which ruled the political landscape of the state landed Abia in the league of eventful states.

With an initial count of 65 health centres, the latter triumphantly surpassed the former and netted 250 functioning health centres dotting every geo-political enclave of the state. Institution of primary health centres in Abia began to stimulate access to basic health facilities, which hitherto seemed utopian and also tore through the identity crisis plaguing the state. The reality of Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, attained in association with Me-Cure Health Services of India, is a gigantic reward in the application of believing and it has made Abia a destination of note in medical tourism.

The fitting syntax to exhaustively promote the goodness in believing is obviously lacking. But suffice it to say that the difficulties of jumping mountainous hurdles to land the medical milestone currently reigning in Abia, east of the Niger, is worth flaunting. It can only get better, given the recent commissioning of a dialysis centre and the on-going ophthalmology centre, which is waiting in the wings to be unveiled before the expiration of three months.

It is only a healthy Abia that will consummate infrastructural necessities. We have therefore continually tapped from the fountain of believing to diversify our insatiable hunger for more medical breakthroughs. Over 18 brand new vehicles have been distributed to our primary health centres to facilitate health care delivery. Okikpe General Hospital in Ukwa East of Abia South, Arochukwu General Hospital in Abia North, and Amachara General Hospital in Abia Central are each being upgraded to 100-bed hospitals. As they say, success has many friends, but failure is an orphan. The trails so far blazed in the health care sector equipped and elevated our curriculum vitae to secure accreditation from the Medical Examination Board for training of house officers. A functional Chest Clinic installed in liaison with Agbami partners of Chevron oilfield at the State Specialist Hospital has added to the measures designed to intervene in varied health situations.

Life has been injected into the fast-fading School of Health Technology Aba, just as we have always gone the whole hog to secure the continuous accreditation of Abia State University Medical College and Teaching Hospital by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. The administration of Health Insurance Scheme, currently undergoing perfection of grey areas, could not have come at a better time. This intervention will provide the necessary soft-landing for Abians requiring treatment in various health situations. It will also drive home the truth that our government is not insensitive to the huge monetary demands on certain health situations and is therefore poised to cushion the financial effect.

Extension of MTN Yellow doctors programme in synergy with Abia State government has been warmly received, just as a result-oriented partnership with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) for training and re-training of midwives is being initiated. Abia State government and four United Nations health agencies have pledged to deepen their areas of partnership in the promotion of maternal and child health, exclusive breast-feeding, safe pregnancy delivery and optimal care for the newborn baby.

The motivational pledge of government is not only driving the on-going construction of doctors’ quarters at Amachara annex of the Specialist Hospital, but had earlier featured in the faithful implementation of every payment regime, ranging from Consolidated Medical Salary Scale (CONMESS) to Consolidated Health Salary Scale (CONHESS). It is a confidence-building measure stimulated by our government for emergence of the necessary platforms for optimum performance of health workers in the state. Our steel-hearted dedication to lift the state from the ashes of despondency is rooted in our understanding of the miracles that will take place in the state if we believe.

Rather than retreat in defeat and deceitfully begin to provide infrastructures on billboards and television, the obvious financial gridlock prevalent in the state compelled our mandate to re-strategise. To that effect, we had always risen from the drawing board of dexterity and prudent management to establish one undisputable legacy or the other. For emphasis sake, our pathetic monthly federation allocation is infinitesimally inadequate to rescue Abia from the depth of infrastructural neglect which has been its lot since creation. This has seen us triumphantly leverage on obvious constraints to attain varied infrastructural milestones scarcely believed to be possible in Abia State.

Before Abians will blink, we will roll the drums again to inaugurate the imposing State High Court Complex in Umuahia and Aba, the wonderful State Secretariat, and the expansive, modern and well-laid Umuahia Market comfortably situated at Ubani. We will believe more to make more history.

Politics / In Support Of Eustace-- by donzico2: 1:17pm On Aug 06, 2013
IN SUPPORT OF EUSTACE, THISDAY, TUESDAY, July 23, 2012
A recent article on page 14 of THISDAY Newspaper, July 23, 2013, was highly revealing. It showed that the thick fog enshrouding Dr Orji Uzo Kalu’s foxy lifestyle and make-believe political prowess is gradually lifting. Recent posturing of the former Governor of Abia Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu in reclaiming his chequered political image is laughable. I was actually taken aback as I wondered if the Igbos can accept the twice-told-tales of OUK. His recent antic is his Njiko-Ndi Igbo group which he claims will improve the lot of Ndi-Igbo. The piece by one Eustace Amanwandi which opined that Orji Uzo’s presence in Nollywood would have made Mr Ibu, (John Okarfor) and Osuofia (Nkem Owoh), nonstarters in clowning is no exaggeration. The former governor of Abia State has a career waiting and can assume this anytime. In truth, Amanwandi’s piece has emboldened me, and I do not hesitate to support her as most of our men have kept quiet.
The question people keep asking is, ‘How did OUK make it to such a revered position?’ The truth remains that he would not have gone this far without the gullibility of Abians in particular and Nigerians in general.
He was historically elected the Governor of God’s Own State Abia and spent eight years in a quizzical rigmarole. What did he not indulge in? He, rather than feed Abians, long thirsty for good leadership, fed them with cataclysmic falsehood. This is a classical example of a father giving stones in place of bread to a famished child. He knows Abia’s penchant for veracity but went to the complete opposite, busy publishing audited accounts and fabricated documents to fool Abians and Nigerians of his honesty and stewardship.
It could be recalled that Orji spent the first few years of his first tenure defending a certificate scandal. Soon after, he added MON to his name making people believe that he was actually awarded the Member Order of the Niger. When the searchlight was turned on him, he hastily changed to “Madu Oha Nile, a ruse title which means ‘man of the people’ in Igbo Language. His doctorate degree and university education in Maidugiri opened another can of worms. As a cover-up, he shamelessly registered as an undergraduate at Abia State University- explaining to those who cared to listen that he was showing example to Abia drop-outs to go back to school- drop out indeed. Only God knows if his admission went through Jamb and if he graduated. Do we talk about the fake currencies he donated in an occasion in Adamawa some years gone? He claims to be so rich yet he plundered Abia treasury like a vandal, a case he is yet to be off the EFCC’s hook.
In his tenure as Governor, there was a quick succession of commissioners, some actually lasting a few months like Omri in the Bible, including the ones he recruited from USA. Possibly because of the joker in him, everything was a joke. Revered statesmen were insulted at will with all ease. Abia was in endless controversies from oracular Anini to ageless Obasanjo. Most times when he said yes, his close aids knew he meant no. Most of them fondly called him Gamji Man. Only God knows what they mean. Government is continuity but our man had his definitions. Most times we saw him adapting the Idi Amin personality. ‘Amin knows how to appoint them and remove them.’ The Executive council was vacant for months, a strategy that allowed people to fall over each other, lobbying for appointments, kowtowing for recognition, genuflecting and dropping gifts, money and all to the one called Odi Uko for the spoils of office. Check his passport, you will realize that he was at best a globe trotter, somewhat beating Ajala’s record as he jumped in and out of USA and Europe, forgetting that he had a mandate from Abia people.
He has an unmatched flair for different jobs when he hardly completes any. Could he be the Jack of all trades that masters none? He loves journalism and once interviewed a South Africa leader. In his religious classification, he is known as a Christian but you will be shocked when you see him dressed as a Muslim and pretends to mime the Koran. He dabbles into issues he knows little about. The column he runs in the Sun newspaper is alleged to be a well syndicated piece. It was in a national daily once where he apologized to the Northerners for the Biafran War. What does Kalu know about the war to render apologies on behalf of the Igbos he has serially deceived? He has a big dream of being in the hearts of the people but no genuine efforts thereto. For instance, during his tenure, he labeled buildings, the Abia Stadium, Ehimiri Housing Estate and Abia House in Abuja after himself. His overnight Igbo irredentism did not tell him to name one of these after any Igbo monument. All these have been reverted. What did Orji Leave as a legacy for Abia? Is it in roads, estates or mere buildings? The tragedy of OUk’s political gamble is that he knows the right thing to do, but he irredeemably and constantly embarks on the opposite.
He has now taken on a big one of negotiating with Boko Haram for the Federal Government. Let us watch, he may be part of them as he is known to run with the hares and hunt with the hounds.
Saying much on OUK may be mistaken as a sign that we are taking him seriously but no, there is need to guide the people so that we are not fooled all over again.
His Local Government the Bende Local Government in a Caucus meeting of the PDP has shut the door on him, and the totality of Abia PDP marched to WADATA house a few weeks ago to protest his entry into PDP. What a persona non grata?
According to Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of United States of America, ‘you can fool some of the people all the time; you can fool all the people some of the time but you can’t fool all the people all the time.’
Kalu should tell us another story as we watch out for his next bag of tricks.

Politics / Re: Onwumere And His Multiple Lies by donzico2: 12:24pm On Aug 05, 2013
Odimegwu true to type and style sees nothing good in Abia, to him the bequest of cars and tricycles are nothing. And blindly sees no job opportunities in owning and driving cabs.
Onwumere is a hireling of no fixed address claiming Rivers and Aba as home. We know of Kalu’s other aids like Iyk Ekoma and his special assistant on media, Emeka Obasi. We are aware of the staff in the Sun Newspapers even though they write negatively to protect their jobs, but who is Odimegwu? What is his motive? In paragraph twelve he makes reference to our people, whose people? Is Odimegwu from Abia? Where exactly? I challenge him to prove this or appear for a public debate.
he dabbles into a nonexistent incident in Umuocham Girls Secondary School, Word Bank, Aba, where illegal fees were collected as he claimed. If Odimegwu knows his onions, why did he not investigate to know who collected the money? Is T A Orji the principal of this school? Is this alleged situation going on in other schools in Abia?
There is no place for Odimegwu in the world of fair and decent writing since he hasn’t the finesse, style or even raw skill. No wonder in his efforts at using the name of Ochendo for practicing his odious genre that is nothing but pen terrorism. Odimegwu is public enemy number one. His continuous demonization of His Excellency Sir, T.A. Orji indicates that he wants Abia back to desecration and plunder of the past. It means too that all that Abia has gained shouldn’t be. The earlier we put Odimegwu where he belongs, the better. According to Grosvenor, figures do not lie but liars will figure and Benjamin Franklin, American author concurs ‘it is hard for an empty bag to stand erect.

Politics / How T.A Orji Is Transforming Abia! by donzico2: 10:47am On Apr 10, 2013
Ugochukwu Emezue is the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Theodore Ahamefule Orji of Abia state. In this interview with SUNDAY NWAKANMA, the spokesman speaks on the strides of his governor and how things are being improved in the state, among other issues

Where have you been before your appointment as Chief Press Secretary?

I have been involved in the electronic media. I have worked with Galaxy TV, DBN TV, SilverBird TV, and TV Continental, all in Lagos. I was also the Bureau Chief of DBN Abuja and, of course, served in NTA way back in 1982/1983 and this gave some advantages. I have also worked the now defunct Third Eye Newspaper, Diet Newspapers, which is today the Daily Independent.

How do you feel being the CPS to the governor of Abia state?

First, it is a big honour to me to serve the governor of Abia state, who is well considered a father and also it has helped to showcase me back home. It is a leadership platform for the governor to give people like us who are the youth such a sensitive position. That means, he is also packaging us for leadership, not just in the state, but beyond the state. So, it has been a plus for me and it has also helped me to come home to my own village. This is because, you can stay away and your people know you in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, but when you come to your home, nobody know you and you cannot make any positive impact. But the fulfilment is that I am in my little village and I am also contributing to its development in my little way. Thanks to the state governor. Then as the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, it is not quite different as what I have been doing as a journalist, which is also to report the activities of Chief T. A. Orji and that of the state to the public. This is because when a man does so much and people don’t get to know about it, then it doesn’t help the growth of such a state. So, what I am doing is that first and foremost, I am a reporter, I am reporting his activities and also to correct impressions. So it is also a way of reporting events as they are in the state because a lot of people have mindsets, say a lot of things that are not true, a lot of people say things that are not quite true of what is happening in the state.

You came at a time your principal is faced with mounting criticisms from the opposition, how have you been able to cope with these criticisms?

Opposition is part of governance. As journalists, we have covered politics for close to 20 years and somehow we know the terrain a bit. Oppositions are there to do their job, to oppose, even when it is right. So it not just myself alone, but I want to also give credit to my colleagues who are also media aides to the governor. We all rose to the occasion, did our best. The simple magic is that the governor himself is a brand and when you have a brand, you don’t have difficulty selling such a brand. So that has been what really helped us. Now you can see that I don’t know whether we still have opposition in this state. They have even come to acknowledge the fact that yes, the start may be slow, but now it is fast, especially on the developmental level.

How do you react when opposition wrongly criticises the governor?

There is nothing wrong when people say they are critical about a government. Yes, they have to be critical, but at the same time, they must criticize constructively, not just want to be talking so that people will know that you are existing. That is the aspect that people don’t really appreciate. They cannot just wake up and say, ‘Governor Orji has not done anything in the state.’ When people say such a thing, we just laugh at them. They can say that the governor has done 70%, but there are still rooms for more to be done. Yes. We know that work will continue to go on and that was what the governor has promised that he will never relent even as a second term governor. So when the opposition come out with their criticisms which are not factual, ours is to tell them in more dignifying way that saying, “look, you are our brothers. If you have not seen the conference centre in Umuahia, just take a time and go there and see. Probably, you have not been going to the new Umuahia. Please, go there and see. So, that is the difference. We recognize that they are our brothers. We recognize that we are in the same state and nobody is greater than Abia State. So, we talk to them in the language that they would understand. This is a government that is so civil, a government that takes time to carry everybody along, irrespective of who you are. That is why you see the governor, even those who offended him in the past, he forgave them and now works with them. So that is the kind of a personality we have.

Is your principal serving the people the way it should be?

Yes definitely. This is a governor that has made himself uncomfortable for people to be comfortable. Look at the new Government House he is staying in. people know, like he always say, he is trying to remodel, re-do things by making himself uncomfortable for Abians to be comfortable. Look at the resources that come into the state, very meagre, yet he is managing it prudently. Look at the projects he is carrying. And you ask yourself, how much comes into the state; N3.8 billion, pay salaries of N2.5 billion and paying the minimum wage which is very high, N20, 100.00. So he is doing the will of the people, not just that, he is doing the will of God. When you do the will of God and do what the people want, people will be happy with you. So the governor has worked extra mile and will continue to go extra mile to ensure that people are happy at his own discomfort.

You and I know that when you look at this state from the inception, you will say with all boldness that this is one governor who has come and is making a monumental progress, achievement with projects that generations yet unborn will ever be grateful to him. The legacy projects are uncountable. Counting the projects, you will forget most of them. From the High Court to ASEPA building, International Conference Centre, New Government House, upgrading of Amachara General Hospital, Mecure, Abia State Diagnostic Centre and Specialist Hospitals in Aba and Umuahia, High Court in Aba and Umuahia, and the ABSUTH Theater in Aba.

The roads he is doing in Aba, Umuahia, Ikwuano, Isuikwuato and across the 17 LGAs, Ubani Ibeku International Market, industrial Market, the Onhiya Power station, and Onhiya Mechanic station. When you look at some of these things, look at the new Deputy Speaker’s lodge, the new Deputy Governor’s lodge, the State Planning Commission House, the Shoprite that is being built, the abia Hotels that is going on, ASUBEB complex, and E-Library centre. Look at the Ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy Affair that is going on. Look at the upgrading of Arochkwu, Okikpe and other hospitals, the Government College where he is building hostels, and reconstructing classrooms. These will stand the taste of time. Look at the secretariat. These are legacy projects that nobody can take away.

Apart from the financial challenges facing the governor, are there any other challenges?

Well, the challenges are mainly fund. If you have fund, it is just like closing your eyes and opening it, and things are done. This is the major challenge that is facing us, and then that is why the governor, who was in Hopkins University (USA) to deliver a lecture on “The Role of Governance in Nigeria”, made a case for more resources to be given to the states. So, these are some of the issues that are quite challenging, which gladly by God’s grace, the federal government is also looking into it.

What is the magic behind your performance as CPS?

The governor has good publicity, but it is just few people who has their own media, has their own newspaper. They believe that they want to use their paper to overshadow what the governor is doing and for some of us, we are his media men, and his media team. We have a formidable media team which has risen to the occasion. It is not everything that you will place in the public domain. Our secret is our secret.

Do you have challenges in performing your job?

Yes.

Like what?

People tend to feed so much on rumours in the state. I take time to disguise and enter the Keke NAPEP (commercial tricycle) from my village to the office. I do that sometimes. You will hear people say a lot of things that are so out of this world, and you will begin to laugh. So, those are the things we try to correct, we try to make sure that people don’t go to get information from the street. We make information available to them. Most times, I go on air, my colleagues also go on air and people call us, asking all sorts of questions and we put records straight. But it looks as if when you say it, people will say, ‘Oh! It is the Chief Press Secretary that is saying it. It is not really a fact’. Those are the things we are gradually changing and I believe that with time, people will get to know that when people make information available for you, you don’t need to start listening to or going to the beer parlour to pick information you know that is not factual. So those are the challenges that were surmounted by the grace of God.

In the course of your job, have had cause to disagree with the governor?

There is one thing about His Excellency, Gov. T. A. Orji. He is a man that is so humble. The way we relate is like father and a son. Each time he tells me what to do, I do it well. Each time I have also have cause to tell him this is from the professional point of view, he will tell me, ‘You are the journalist, you go and do it. The result is what I want’. So, I have never had cause to feel bad doing my job. You can also see the way we also relate with our colleagues who are working with us. Journalists in Abia state, in terms of getting information, had never had it so good during this period. On every time we out on assignment, every journalist would always talk to the governor and information would be made available to them. It is a fact that the information flow in the state is wonderful. The governor also takes time to address them. Even when the journalists ask questions, the governor also takes time to explain.

People are accusing your principal of recycling old politicians instead of injecting new blood into the system. What is your take on this matter?

This is not true. I am a typical example of Gov. T. A. Orji’s blend of youths and experience. When you say, old politicians, these are the people who have the experience. Some of us are coming up to blend the agility of the youth and experience of the old.

Are expecting the dissolution of the exco in the near future?

A journalist had asked the governor that question, so it is not in my position to re-echo what the governor had said.

What advice do you have for Abians over Governor Orji

They should continue to support the man who is sincere. If you check out the people who have ruled this state, there is one thing about the present governor, he is a Godly man. He is a man who has enthroned Godliness in Abia State. The days of idolatry have gone, days of oath taking have gone and days of worshiping idol are gone. He is sincere about God. When you say this state is God’s own state, he has gone whole circle to make sure that we, not just profess it, but also practice it. So that is one thing Abians should know. If there is nothing else the governor of Abia state has done, the fact that he has taken away Abia from darkness to light with the grace of God is something we all should be proud of. When you are free, you are no longer in bondage, and then you have to thank God. Every other thing that is coming is additional and which he has also shown. There is peace in Abia state. Peace of the mind, political gladiators working together, security is at the highest level.

This is a state that used to be the den of kidnappers, but today we are the safest state, investors are coming, partners are coming, and you see what is happening in other states. We are not happy that it is even happening in other states, but what we are saying is that when it was happening here, it looked as if the state is gone, but today with the help of God, President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief of Army Staff and the governor, things are working well here. So, let us work together to sustain this security and love. Before in Abia you see corpses here and there, but now, they don’t happen again. One man has come to say; “Enough is enough”.

Youths of Ohaneze Ndigbo on Wednesday said former Abia State Governor Uzor Kalu “left a legacy of infrastructural decay, hopelessness and unemployment in the eight years he ruled the state”.

They claimed that while Kalu’s businesses grew in “quantum” from 1999 to 2007 when he was governor, “the collective patrimony of Abians dwindled”.

The youths, reacting to an interview in which Kalu called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to arrest corrupt governors, said the former governor, by his call, unknowingly reminded the anti-graft agency to re-ignite his prosecution.

National Organising Secretary, Ohanseze Ndigbo Youths, Mr. Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the youth believed that Kalu’s call was not lost on the anti-graft agency.

He said, “In the interview, he also claimed to be championing the Igbo Presidency Project in 2015. Here again, he is doing what he is known for – playing with the political destiny of Ndigbo.

“Very soon he will jump ship and abandon those following his mantra. Did he not disappoint in the past? The unfortunate thing is that Uzor Kalu thinks the Igbo are fools and easily forgetful.”

Isiguzoro also said claims by Kalu that he had returned to the Peoples Democratic Party were false.
