I actually wanted to apply to the school but later changed my mind. I think I'm tired of seeing admission offers now. What I need is funding. Lol

Some of these schools can annoy for Africa. I applied to the university of Liverpool since November last year. No reply till now.

As for HERRIOT-WATT I think the best way to know is to wait for your admission offer, or if you can't, email the Graduate coordinator of the department or faculty you are applying to for further clarification.

Anyway from what I see here https://www.hw.ac.uk/services/docs/briefing-englishlevelreq.pdf you would need to write an English language test.

The thing is having high BP over this scholarship isn't the best. Some people will be sent regret mail even if they submit unconditional letters, wonderful essays and perfect English language test scores.

This is a highly competitive scholarship and no single factor can be said to be the decider.

If it's your turn to smile, you definitely will. It is also wise that you look at other scholarships as well... Spread your risk.

Chevening has given the middle of February for notifications on status of applications. So I advise that you relax and wait till then. Today is 7th. We should know our stand in about a week's time.

I have a statement of result. It is letterheaded and has been stamped by the then registrar of the school.

The thing is that once you are nominated by the university to the csc you are almost looking at a scholarship slot. Except you are a reserve nominee, you're an automatic recipient once you've been nominated.

That's what I meant when I said veto.

I have a little problem. On most of my offers of admission so far, there's a final Bsc certificate condition attached.

The thing is that certificates are only given during convocation ceremonies, and the last convocation we had was in 2009, when I gained admission.

How do I convince the admissions teams?

Someone said the reason for my regret mail from Chevening could be because I applied without a Language Test score. Ironically, my IELTS came in same day (yesterday). If it is something else, well, I have put in the work. You don't get shot for effort.

Lastly, someone should please restore my confidence by telling me I don't necessarily need to have graduated with a first class to make it at this scholarship ...

The truth is a first class degree is an advantage when it comes to scholarship opportunities. But I think that for the csss, the universities are more influential in the decision making process. The csc will just veto their nominations.

Also the career plan essays and the development Esaay carry a lot of weight. You want to be able to convince them that you garrit!

Lastly, please find people who will write super references for you. There might be reasons why you graduated with a 2.1. Hopefully your academic references should be able to expantiate on that. My problem with Nigerian professors is that they are always bigger and busier than God. So find a friendly one, with whom you still have good rapport
You might even draft your recommendation letter yourself and arrest him for one day.

Given that you can't seem to squeeze out at least 3 days from your job, I very much doubt it is a "high paying" job, at least in Western or Middle Eastern terms. However, relative to Nigeria, it may well be.

That said, the real decision is yours. Are you willing to risk it all? Do you really believe in your proposal in Chevening application to risk your job for it? If you're risk averse, then stay put my brother. This is because if you're not too keen on the Chevening, if you attend the interview and don't make it eventually, and still probably lose your job in the process, it may leave you bitter...that is not good.

Also, really make efforts to see if you can get yourself out of the office for at least three days.Impossible is nothing. Ask questions. Massage Egos. Fall sick sef on those days

First of all, I would like to congratulate you for the interview invite.. it means that your application carries some weight in their eyes.
Anyways.. back to the issue at hand... do you have any other scholarship that you have applied to?

an invite to a Chevening interview doesn't necessarily mean that you have an automatic scholarship spot.. the process is extremely competitive at this stage. The commission would like to ascertain whether what you put on paper actually correlates with reality, so if you are confident of putting up a good show, and your salary/wage over there isn't humongous, I would sincerely advise you to come on down and face your destiny...

If I were in your shoes.. this is what I would have done... I for one am no longer interested in the Chevening scholarship anymore.. even though it was the first one I applied for... if you had applied to the CSSS then some universities may forward their list of nominees to the CSC around mid April or early may... baba if I get nominated then Chevening interview invite will just be for bragging rights sake.

I think you should select most of the options there. Anyway there are instructions so read them thoroughly before you start. Enjoy.

Yes o, let's not put all our eggs in one basket; the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is still on. I personally applied for about 5 scholarships this year (Chevening, Commonwealth, Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG), African Leaders of Tomorrow (Canada), Mo Ibrahim Scholarship, Schwarzman Scholarship). It's important to spread your luck. As for Chevening, I applied for MA in Corruption and Governance at the University of Sussex and I've got an unconditional offer. I still pray they (Chevening) contact me shaa!

It's unfortunate but I had noticed it too. Weeks have gone by and nobody has given any report to the house even when the views keep doubling and GRE slots keep getting filled.

It might just be a hunch but I know the universe has a way of rewarding people who make up their minds to help others. In fact, it is more than a hunch: I have studied the trends even in this thread from inception to now, and people who made it a personal ambition to help others got sorted out even sometimes miraculously.

PS: not blackmailing anybody to post anything o. I just have plenty free time.

It is hard to tell but startclass might be of help. You should try to be more specific though: what faculty are you considering? Generally, I think UofG Athens has a 55% acceptance rate but that could be undergrad admissions. If you are more specific one could find the A.R for grad school.
