ezeuba: I am a one of a kind android phone user, I use the Droid Incredible (CDMA, on Visafone precisely), and believe me guys this phone is really incredible. Since I got this phone in January my laptop has been green with envy; I hardly use it now except for movies. I nearly fell for the Droid Eris, another CDMA android but somehow I just tightened my lips and went for the Incredible. It's Android 2.2, but I've been experimenting with some Gingerbread ROMs lately and it is simply awesome. This is the first time I've seen a phone as responsive as this, and the phone still fully under my control. The only thing is the battery life, but somehow I got around to managing the situation well now and the battery rarely dies on me, I have a car charger, and I always carry my usb charging unit with me. Each time I wonder what people see in Iphone and maybe its because android is for geeks, sometimes its not for the faint-hearted. Like rooting with unrEVOked, upgrading clockworkmod, backing up ROMs and installing new ROMs. But its quite straightforward once you get the hang of it. I've only experienced one heart-stopping moment with my Droid Incredible. I once tried to unroot and I used a 2.1 RUU file and got stuck with a blank screen. Reason was that my Droid Inc is 2.2 and it does not have screen drivers for 2.1, but after some research online I got the 2.2 Stock RUU and got my Droid Inc working again. For some moments on that day I thought I was looking at a $400 brick.
I have so many ROMs and quite a bit of knowledge about android phones now. If anyone is in need I am here to help. Cheers, Good to hear you didn't brick your phone, it would have been a real disaster. . I would really like to know how you got your Incredible to work on Visaphone cos i have a CDMA/GSM Phone on my hands and would like to get the CDMA hooked up to a network. Any Pointers for me? |

4llerbuntu: @ double n, u actually want to start a mac vs linux debate on a linux thread with long term linux diehard techies?
create a mac thread or go to a windows thread o. u can oppress dem there. here u just anor sucker running a closed version of bsd in a closed ecosystem, on fancy mostly underpowered hardware and paying through your nose for it.
at least u got blinged hardware and props for using Apple . lol I am not starting any battle of sorts, just trying to clear some misconceptions. I have been a user of Linux Mint and Ubuntu and i have nothing against them. blackweaver: @doubleN well maybe you're right, however cost is still a mojor deterrent; if you could send me a mac foc i will join you in broadcasting all the wonderful merits of the system, in the mean time those of us who aren't willing to shell out over x10 minimum wage, we'll just chill with our pcs and enjoy our free linux os Well, everything is a matter of choice. Get what you want and be happy with it! |

blackweaver: abi o and this way i don't have to worry about the consequences of tweaking my hardware to my content; last weekend i upgraded my netbook to 500gb (from 160gb) now if i had a mac would i have the liver to even try something like that? besides with linux we don't have to fear viruses any more than on macs - and we can try many more oses without fear of voiding our warranty (or care for that matter seeing that it doesn't cost anywhere near the price) Upgrading is just the same way you upgrade every other Computer System, as long as you know what you are doing. I recently upgraded my Hard Disk form the stock 250GB to a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Hybrid SSD Drive! and replaced my Stock 4GB Ram with a Crucial 8GB DDR3 RAM Kit with no problems at all (My Mac is now on some serious steriods!) Evil Brain: Sorry to bust your bubble but there are plenty of viruses and spyware targeted specifically at macs. Since Windows Vista, the mac has been by far the weakest platform security-wise. They are almost trivially easy to hack for anyone who knows what he is doing. And Safari is a complete joke, its even less secure than ie6!
Couple this with the fact that most mac users (like you) are blissfully unaware of the malware threat and often foolishly ignore even obvious signs of infection (I can't have a virus, I use a mac!), you may be better off running windows XP. At least then you'll have to be careful.
If I were you, I'll go and look for an antivirus program fast. As for the Safari Browser issue, it is constantly updated to protect from such exploits and besides you have options like Google Chrome (Safer Browser at present) and Firefox. I suggest you read this article http://www.macworld.com/article/156744/2010/12/2011_viruses.html to have a clear understanding on the perception of Mac specific Malware,so far only 28 known Trojans,0 Viruses and 0 worms have been recorded. Trojans are NOT THE SAME as viruses. Viruses spread without user interaction, but Trojans only infect systems when they trick the user into installing them. Trojans often masquerade as some kind of illicit software. For example, all known Mac trojans present themselves as pirated software, or as apps needed to view pornography. Mac's are definitely not as secure as Windows, but they are whole lot Safer! |

Your point standing, is quite defeatist and thats not really what you shud be thinking now.
United have a chance to win the champs league once we confirm our place in the final.
We have beaten them before, (Scorcher from scholes) we can do it again. Ori Owambe guy!! Only a Foolish coach ever writes of Man Utd. If we eventually meet Barca in the finals of the UCL i have thisstrong inkling that we will overcome, just give me my Chicarito,Giggs,Park and Rooney Combo! |

So so sad. I and Obi actually went to school together and he was the bestfriend to a close famly friend. This is so so sad that a thing like this can happen to a man in what is meant to be his own country. I ask that NYSC be totally scrapped as it has lost its essence. How can you account for people from the South being posted there only to be used as scapegoats? While the animal Northen bastards get posted to the South to reap where they did no sow? I myself served in the North and i know firsthand that A Christian Southener is not welcome there. All corpers who are presently serving in Northern states should opt out and return to their homes. Enough is enough! RIP Okpos you would be dearly missed.
Haba texazz, i'm sure the guy is a newbie But a good advice nevertheless, one can cook up such a site for pros and newbies Shenny i'm game if other will add their inputs @Double N, otumfour and others, if u're interested holler and get me @ kunlerom@gmail.comI'll put d site up within days! Nice idea
Not a bad idea at all but since we have a thread like this running where we can always input whatever knowledge there is available,it would just be an overkill. There is already a vast resource of Andriod forums for all and sundry on the Web (Not to talk of Manufacturer and model specific forums as well!) shenny: @na2day - thanks for your insightful response generally - Am having issues with my batt running out of juice so fast - have got "Advanced Task Killer" installed, but its not really helping any other idea? AS for this, it all boils down to how you use your phone and your default user settings. Please get Rid of the 'Advanced Task Killer', it really makes no sense. There are some apps that run in a persistent mode which always relaunch once they are killed, this adds significant overhead to your battery. Instead get a Battery Optimizer like Juice Defender (I use it Personally). Turn off settings such as 'GPS Satellites' when not in use, also set your Screen Brightness level at 'Auto' or turn it down as low as possible. Social Networking Apps such as facebook and co are also a major culprit, reducing the frequency at which they update will save you some power also (This also applies to apps which update frequently). Anywhere from 4hours to Manually Updating is ok. Try these steps and see if you experience any significant improvement. |
