Nonsense

I enjoyed my SS3 end of year party. Made memories that, even years later, I won't trade for anything.

Science/TechnologyRe: Are Those Plastics Collected Being Recycled?? by Dougad: 8:49am On Aug 18, 2025
There are companies in Lagos that pay people for plastic, after which they clean it before selling it to big-scale recyclers to convert to pellets before exporting or selling to big bottling companies in Nigeria. However, it is important to note that not all plastics qualify for this conversion, owing for several reasons such as the degree of dirt or the type of plastic. That is why these middle-men plastic operations attempt to purchase the plastic from households before they get soiled.

HealthRe: Everyone Digging Borehole In Lekki Is Probably Drinking 'waste' Water - LASG by Dougad: 2:03pm On Aug 06, 2025
Hamachi:
You’re not lying—there’s a lot to be angry about. From Lekki to Maitama, even our so-called "prime" areas still struggle with the basics: no water, no stable light, terrible roads, zero planning. We’ve normalised hardship to the point where fixing basic things feels like a luxury. It’s exhausting.

But before we conclude that “something is wrong with Nigerians,” we need to pause.

Most Nigerians are not lazy, stupid, or unaware. In fact, they’re some of the most hardworking, creative, and resilient people on the planet. The problem isn’t the people—it’s the system that has consistently failed them.

Imagine a country where people dig their own boreholes, install their own solar, build private security, and still have to bribe someone for basic documents. That’s not because they're “ghetto” by nature—it’s because the structure forces individuals to carry the burden of government.

Look at Nigerians abroad: same black skin, different system—yet they thrive. So it’s not about “Black people” or even “Africa” leaving Nigeria behind. It’s about leadership, accountability, and planning. Other African countries like Rwanda, Botswana, and Namibia are making progress because systems are being allowed to work—even if imperfectly.

So yes, the situation is frustrating. But blaming the people is like blaming passengers for a plane crash caused by the pilot.

What we need is radical reform, honest leadership, and citizens who refuse to give up. Until then, we’ll keep seeing potential wasted and ghettos wearing designer roofs.

FamilyRe: Aisha Abubakar S/Fada Missing For 30 Years by Dougad: 10:04am On Jul 30, 2025
Wow!

There are many cases like this across the country.

A man moved into my neighborhood with his son for a fresh start after recently losing his wife. His boy was still very young, about 8 or 9. I was only a little bit older than him. The man worked offshore for three weeks at a time and had one a week's break.

Before going to work, he would take his son to his relatives who lived not too far from where we lived before embarking on his journey solo to work. It became such a regular routine that everyone was aware of. Until one day when his colelahfuee called his family asking where he was because they've been waiting for him. The family was shocked. They said the day he dropped his son off and left was the last time they saw him. They ran to our neighborhood to check if he was still there and that's how we got to find out. But the day he went to drop off his son was the last time anybody in the neighborhood also saw him.

Days turned to months and then years and he was never heard from again. This happened close to two decades ago.

This is what I say when I see a body of a woman without limbs or head coming from an African country....I don't even bother looking for the name of that country I know it's most likely Nigeria wink. Or when a whole village is almost burnt down to ashes over night with women, children, men and their animals.....no need to look up the name
On seeing your mention, I quickly typed 'woman killed boyfriend,' and scurried to the News section. Of the 10 reports in the first page, 4 were about the Ugandan olympian who was murdered by her boyfriend. The remaining 6 were distinct femicide cases emerging from S.Africa. Don't fool yourself.

News like these are rampant from South Africa. You don't even need to check the country in some cases.
FamilyRe: Physiotherapy Or Optometry(not A Competition) by Dougad: 11:02am On Jul 27, 2025
ThatPetiteChic:
I studied optometry but I don't want to say I regret it. The course only thrives in Lagos, maybe Abuja, government work and good NGOs. I stay in PH and getting a good paying job is difficult(imagine 60k mon to sat, 8 to 6) except I open my own clinic.

In teaching hospitals, we are not respected at all. We dont dispense drugs and diagnose there. It's only glasses even though our scope includes it. The ophthalmologist are constantly fighting us in that aspect. Our optometrist board is not really trying enough in that aspect.

Lastly, I really want to go abroad so I checked online. Optometry is regarded as Bsc(4yr course) in UK and europe. Canada, US and Australia are the only sensible countries that regard us as doctors. Definitely, they pay far higher than UK and europe. Now the problem is that the profession is highly regulated in these countries, worse than medicine. You have to get into their bridge program which is not free, over 50k USD for the 18months program. Canada takes less than 20 international optometrist worldwide yearly and US takes about 10 yearly. Most of my colleagues that travelled have left the field. I tried applying for the bridge but it's not possible to apply from Nigeria and going for masters and bridge is too expensive for me(100kUSD because it's 2years for masters and 50kUSD for bridge). So, I am left with Australia which I am processing.

I am not discouraging your nephew o but physiotherapist charge hourly for therapy and they are highly sought after. It's better you meet physiotherapist in the field sha to know how things are done locally and internationally.
Did you succeed with your attempt to migrate to Australia?
Foreign AffairsRe: U.S Govt Asks For Donations From Citizens To Pay Off $36 Trillion Debt (Photos) by Dougad: 7:52pm On Jul 25, 2025

🤣😂😆🤣

$36,000,000,000,000 with nothing to show for it in last 2 decades.

Capitalism is evil.

China needs to buy the US. It’s glaring they cannot govern themselves.
As much of a dunce as Trump is, this is a silly claim to make. Across Africa, Asia, Europe and South America, the US has allocated sizeable amount of money for several purposes like defense and healthcare. And while not done solely with altruistic intentions, the value of the dollar has been felt deeply by the people it reached, hence their deficit.

PoliticsRe: Okpebholo’s Reckless Outburst Endangers Freedoms - Punch Editorial by Dougad:
The opposition is petrified of Obi. i label them the "opposition" because, despite occupying the seat of power, they lunge at Obi like serpents completely surrounded on all sides, hoping to score a bite. However, as ignominious as their attempts, they are matched only in scale by the characters of the reptiles that hurl them. A politically hungry SUG president, a no-name Rivers state politician, with the grand finale of this tomfoolery being the two most incompetent governors in the country -- Alia and Okpebholo -- who have watched as marauders march into their states and plunder innocents without making any effort to stop them. Despite the unending nature of these attacks, these governors point to Obi's "untimely" visit to their state as the issue most deserving of their attention.

This is a massive overreach. How

Have these people pushed any meaningful bill since they attained power? Reverting the national anthem, banning importation of solar panels when there's barely any local production, and now this?
