PoliticsUN Protest: Yoruba Nation Agitators List Six Demands As Buhari Departs Nigeria by Dovegrey(op): 10:59am On Sep 19, 2021
Yoruba Nation agitators and other
self-determination groups have
listed six demands ahead of their
protest at the United Nations
Headquarters in New York.

The agitators threatened that the
“biggest March” will hold on
September 24, the day the
President, Major General
Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will
address the United Nations
General Assembly.

This is as the Special Adviser to
the President (Media & Publicity),
Femi Adesina, announced on
Sunday that the president has
departed Nigeria for the 76th UN
General Assembly in New York
Sunday.

A spokesperson for the agitators,
Maxwell Adeleye in a statement
listed the demands as the
abolition of the 1999 Constitution
and the suspension of further
elections (Particularly the 2023
elections), conduct a referendum,
end to Fulani Genocide, end to
Oligarchy, and declaration of
Miyyeti Allah as a terrorist
organisation among others.

The statement quoted Chairman
of NINAS, Prof. Banji Akintoye,
as saying, “Rather than listen to
the yearnings and aspirations of
our people, the Buhari-led
Government has consistently waged war against people who
attempt to checkmate the menace
of Miyyetii Allah in the name of
grazing of cows.

“Our appeal to the Government,
therefore, is to address the
issues raised in the December 16,
2020 Constitution Force Majure
declared by NINAS. This appeal is
necessary so that Indigenous
Nationalities in NINAS Territories
can peacefully negotiate for what
they want without further delay.

“Our demand remains conduct of
a referendum so that the
Indigenous people of the South
and Middle-Belt of Nigeria can
lawfully and legally decide on
their nationhood and sovereignty.
We demand the immediate
abolition of the imposed 1999
Constitution.

“We demand an end to the
genocide being perpetrated by
Miyyetii Allah against our people.

Miyyetii Allah is a Terrorist group
and it should be declared such by
the United Nations. The invasion
of our land in the name of
grazing is enough. What is
happening in our Territories today
is State-sponsored Terrorism and
Land grab, not cow grazing.

“We shall resume the March on
24th September, Opposite the
United Nations Headquarters to
tell President Muhammad Buhari
to his face that his Miyyetii Allah
people are the enemy number one
of the people of South and
Middle-Belt of Nigeria, and they
are the authentic Terrorists.”

PoliticsPolitical Will Key To Improved Production In Nigeria by Dovegrey(op): 5:04am On Sep 19, 2021
The Director-General, National
Centre for Technology
Management, Obafemi Awolowo
University, Ile-Ife, Osun State,
Prof Okechukwu Ukwuoma, has
said political will by Nigeria’s
leaders, good energy generation
and transmission will improve
production in the country.

Ukwuoma made this know in a
statement on Saturday by the
Public Relations Officer of the
centre, Isaac Oluyi, on the
forthcoming 2021 Global
Sustainable Technology and
Innovation Community Conference
with the theme, ‘Shaping a
post-pandemic world: Real-life
examples of technological
solutions for the SDGs,’ to be
co-hosted by the institute.

He, however, expressed concern
over the pathetic level of energy
generation and distribution in the
country.

Ukwuoma said, “One of the
problems we have is that the
energy generation, transmission,
and distribution level is very
pathetic. Production of
technological equipment, both
computers and others, requires a
Ukwuoma
lot of energy and if we don’t
have the energy to produce them,
we are merely discussing them.

“If there is a political will to
say, ‘I want Nigeria to develop
some things,’ give motivation,
get people to do it, supervise
them and give them everything
they require, you will see that
people will want to make a name
and survive.”

PoliticsGoodluck Jonathan Warns African Leaders by Dovegrey(op): 9:20am On Sep 15, 2021
The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) has challenged African leaders to safeguard democracies.
Ann Iyonu, Director of the organization founded by the ex- President, gave the charge in a statement on the 2021 International Day of Democracy.
The day is observed in countries across the world every September 15.
GJF urged governments to deliver good governance, prioritise credible elections and guarantee the rights of all citizens.
The body lamented the disregard for democractic values such as separation of powers and term limits.
Iyonu warned that such tendencies would negatively affect the continent and the people.
The ED said civil leadership should bring about peace, equality, justice, inclusion and sustainable development.
“In many African countries, the essential values of democracy such as the rule of law, separation of powers and constitutional term limits are no longer adhered to.
“This situation poses threat to the survival of democracy in Africa, as the promises of peace, justice and human freedoms are daily betrayed,’’ she noted.

PoliticsNgige: Rising Unemployment Can Wipe Out Nigeria, Elite Unsafe by Dovegrey(op): 6:08am On Sep 15, 2021
The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, has said the rising rate of unemployment portends danger for the country.

He attributed this on Tuesday and lack of education to the problems bedevilling the country, warning that if not tackled the country might be “completely wiped out.”

The minister said this at the inaugural partnership economy summit organised by the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs in Abuja.

The summit was tagged, ‘Translating Sustainable Development Goals to local businesses in Nigeria.’

Ngige said, “We are in trouble as a country. We are in trouble and anybody who tells you he doesn’t know we are in trouble is lying to himself and once you lie to yourself.

“We are facing a problem that is cyclic, one begat the other. It is left for you and me the elite to decide to save ourselves, save our children and save our country.

“If we keep on with these symptoms; buy ammunition, bomb these people, bomb kidnappers, bomb Boko Haram, you will be wasting resources.

“If you had prevented it, it would cost you less. We must give education to these people at the grassroots.

“Those who can’t get an education, we must provide them jobs so that they can fend for themselves. They can put a roof over their heads.”

Harping on the need to provide quality education to people at the grassroots, he said the inability to provide such was responsible for why the people were lured to partake in separatist agitations, terrorism among others.

He added, “If you don’t kill ignorance, you are breeding people would be brainwashed to believe that with Biafra all their problems will go away; Oduduwa, all their problems will go, Boko Haram.

“If we don’t tackle them, we will continue like this until this country might be wiped out completely; we don’t pray for that. We must give education to the people at the grassroots.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was represented by the Minister of Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, described Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy.

A statement issued by Hussaini Mai-Suleh, the Press Secretary to Yobe State Deputy Governor on Tuesday, said “The defectors’ decision was due to the exemplary leadership of Gov. Mai Mala Buni’’.
“Babale said he defected to APC because of the leadership style of Mai Mala Buni, the Chairman, APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.”
The statement also quoted the Yobe Deputy Governor, Idi Gubana as “assuring the new entrants of equal and fair treatment to take the party to greater heights’’.
Gubana also said that the governor was capable of carrying everyone along, irrespective of any political differences.

Politics2023 Election: Merit Should Supersede Rotation – Ex-gov Adamu Dismisses Zoning by Dovegrey(op): 9:32am On Sep 14, 2021
Former Nasarawa Governor,
Abdullahi Adamu says merit
should be considered ahead of
zoning in 2023.

The lawmaker said calls for
rotation of offices are
unconstitutional and “wishful
thinking”.

Adamu, the Senator representing
Nasarawa West District, spoke to
reporters on Monday in Abuja.

”We are not being practical.
How do you zone it? The
constitution says you can only
become a president through the
ballot box,” he said.

Adamu insisted that no section of
the Nigerian constitution backs
zoning or rotation.

He reminded proponents that the
constitution is being reviewed and
that if they want the presidential
position to be zoned, a proposal
should be made.

“You can’t just whisk away, a
situation that is fundamental to
the life of a country. You can’t
talk of merit and talk of zoning.
On the issue of rotation, let us
just go by merit,” he added.

Adamu advised political parties to
sell themselves, their candidates
and allow Nigerians to decide the
presidential results at the polls.

PoliticsOpen Grazing Ban: We’re Open For Discussion, Miyetti Allah Tells Ortom by Dovegrey(op): 6:15am On Sep 14, 2021
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, on Monday, criticised Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State over the enactment of a law banning open grazing.

The body said it was not interested in exchanging words, but to see an end to the senseless killing of innocent people.

The National Secretary of MACBAN, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, said this in an interview with The PUNCH in Abuja in response to the accusation by Ortom’s Chief Secretary, Terver Akase, that it was fuelling crises over the law.

But Ngelzarma said the doors of MACBAN “will remain open for constructive discussions to find lasting solutions that will bring to an end all these uncivilised behaviours.”

He said, “We are not interested in the exchange of unnecessary comments that will not do anybody any good. As a responsible association, we want to see an end to this senseless killing of innocent people. We, as an association, respect all constituted authorities and believe in law and order and hold all state governors in high esteem as chief security officers of their states.

“We also believe that the Benue State governor has sworn to protect the lives and economic well-being of all his citizens, irrespective of their socioeconomic/ethno-religious backgrounds.

“The law only ends up suffocating both farmers and herders to make them bankrupt. Ortom, as a deeply religious person, knows very well that one day he will be called to account by the Almighty for how he manages his state during his tenure as governor.

“MACBAN is never in any doubt about the position of governors being the controllers of state security and land and the Houses of Assembly being responsible for making laws. But all we desire is justice, equality and fairness in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.”

He added, “Our doors will remain open for constructive discussions to find lasting solutions that will bring to an end all this uncivilised behaviours.”

A Chieftain of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), in
Adamawa State, Abdullahi Musa
has said it is a shame that some
governors cannot do anything in
their state without federal allocation from Abuja.

Abdullahi said in a press
interview in Yola that governors
routinely wait for handouts from
Abuja instead of sourcing their
funds from within.

He said Adamawa State in
particular is an eldorado of
agriculture, among other
endowments, richly blessed that it
can grow virtually every crop, in
addition to vast cattle and poultry
resources, all of which can be
harnessed for radically improved
internally generated revenue
(IGR).

He added that the leadership of
Adamawa State should be
ashamed to have to go to Abuja
for money before they doing
anything.

“We need to develop our
capacity. We must develop our
human capital. We must look
inward. We make less than N1
billion internally generated revenue
monthly. It’s a shame when we
are so blessed with so many
things,” he said.

He added that Adamawa State
has the busiest airport in the
North outside Kano and would do
well if it floats an airline.

“Our people must see that this
airport, the Yola Internation
Airport, can generate much
money. We have hydro resources,
the Kiri Dam is there in Shelleng
LGA. We have farmlands.

Look at the rice revolution in
Kebbi. We have rice belts here to
grow more rice than Kebbi. We
are not doing this. We sit down
instead and wait for Buhari’s
money every month,” the APC
governorship aspirant said.

PoliticsPMB Has Handed Over Nigeria To Terrorists, Hates IPOB Agitators – Adeyanju by Dovegrey(op): 10:30am On Sep 13, 2021
President Muhammadu Buhari has
been accused of technically
handing over Nigeria to terrorists.

Socio-political activist, Deji
Adeyanju made the remark while
claiming that Buhari hates
Oduduwa and the Indigenous
People of Biafra, IPOB, agitators.

Reacting to a reported terrorist
attack on a military base in
Zamfara State, Adeyanju said the
president was only interested in
fighting his critics and not
insecurity.

In a series of tweets, the rights
activist accused Buhari of
pampering terrorists.

According to Adeyanju: “Buhari
has technically handed over
Nigeria to terrorists groups. The
takeover of a military base
yesterday in Zamfara confirms
this.

“He is not interested in fighting
insecurity but critics and the
opposition. He hates IPOB and
Oduduwa agitators so much but
pampers terrorists.

“You will all see how Buhari will
deploy 30,000 soldiers and police
in an attempt to rig the Anambra
elections but he ignores all the
security challenges in the North.

“These bandits have brought
down a military jet and killed
many soldiers and citizens but he
is not concerned.”

The Twitter ban in Nigeria has extended to 100 days, and in that time frame the nation has lost N247.61bn.

The Federal Government had on June 4 suspended Twitter after the social media platform deleted a tweet by the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Consequently, telcos on June 5 blocked access to Twitter after receiving a directive by the Nigerian Communications Commission.

On this, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria had said, “We, The Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria wish to confirm that our members have received formal instructions from the Nigerian Communications Commission, the industry regulator, to suspend access to Twitter.

“ALTON has conducted a robust assessment of the directive in accordance with internationally accepted principles.”

According to the NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool, the blockade costs Nigeria’s economy N103.17m ($250,600) every hour.

It has been 2,400 hours since the FG banned Twitter.

Recently, the Presidency through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said it was close to an agreement with Twitter and would soon lift the ban.

Nigeria is a member of an exclusive list of countries such as China, Iran, and North Korea where Twitter is banned. Since the ban, the use of Virtual Private Networks has risen.

A firm, ExpressVPN had said that it recorded an increase of over 200 per cent in web traffic from Nigeria since the Federal Government banned microblogging site.
