The National Drugs Law
Enforcement Agency on Sunday
said it intercepted 24, 311kgs of
heroin and codeine in another raid
at the Murtala Mohammed
International Airport, Ikeja and the Tincan seaport, Apapa, Lagos State.

In a statement on Sunday, Femi
Babafemi, Director, Media &
Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters,
Abuja, said Operatives of the
Agency seized over 24, 311
kilograms of heroin, codeine as
well as Arizona and Colorado
variants of cannabis in fresh drug
busts.

The statement said the first
seizure came on Friday 3rd
September 2021 at the SAHCO
export shed of the MMIA where
two consignments containing
10.350kg heroin and 25.2kg
cannabis from South Africa were
intercepted.

The statement said, in a series
of sting operations between
Saturday 4th Sept and Monday
6th Sept, in different parts of
Lagos, four suspects were
arrested including Mrs. Bello
Kafayat Ayo who was picked
from Shino Street, Palmgroove
area of the state.

“At the Tincan seaport, Apapa,
narcotic officers intercepted a
40ft container loaded with 22,590
kilograms of Barcadin Codeine
syrup on Monday 6th Sept
following intelligence received from international partners on the container since May 2021.

“The container was also found
to include 4,020.03kg of analgesic
tablets and 47 cartons of
insulated hot pots used to conceal
the illicit drugs, all imported from
India.

“Equally, on Friday 10th Sept, a
consignment of Colorado weighing
17.5kg and hidden inside a Grand
Caravan Dodge vehicle shipped in
a 40ft container from Montreal,
Canada, was also intercepted and
seized at the Tincan port.” The

Shehu Sani in a post on Saturday

Ahead of 2023 general elections, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, on Friday, said the All Progressives Congress, APC, is not interested in Igbo presidency.

Uzodinma spoke while dismissing claims of APC zoning its presidential ticket to the Southeast.

Appearing on Channels Television, Uzodinma said APC is looking for a Nigerian president.

Asked if APC is committed to zoning the 2023 presidential ticket to the South-East, he responded: “We are not looking for an Igbo President. We are looking for a President of Nigeria.

“We as a party APC believe what we are practicing here is partisan democracy and every politician must be loyal to his party.

“At the end of the day it is the decision of the party that you belong to that will matter.”

State’s Internal Revenue Service

value-added law 2021.

to pay their taxes to the state

According to Buhari:“The

you will visit in Nigeria without

“Therefore, it is unthinkable for
me that any Igbo man would
consider himself not to be a part
of Nigeria.

“The evidence is there for
everyone to see that Igbos are in
charge of Nigeria’s economy.”

The president assured the
Southeast that they stand to
benefit more from his
administration.

He said there are ongoing
infrastructural developments in
the Southeast region.

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People
of Biafra, IPOB, led by Nnamdi
Kanu has been agitating for the
actualization of Biafra and by
extension Nigeria’s break up.

However, Kanu is locked up by
the Department of State Services,
DSS, following his rearrest in

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said it was ready to deal with gunmen killing and maiming people in the South East under the guise of Eastern Security Network (ESN).

In a statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary of the group, yesterday, Emma Powerful, IPOB said most of the killings were perpetrated by gunmen masquerading as members of its security outfit.

Powerful, while urging the armed men to desist from the act, also cautioned the police to stop parading them as members of ESN just as it equally warned them to stop harassing innocent Igbo youths.

The spokesperson warned that if the police does not desist from alleged harassment of the youths from South East, the group, he said, will be left with no option but to unleash ESN on them.

“Nigerian Police should stop parading innocent people and tagging them ESN personnel because parading innocent people and tagging them ESN shows that
Nigeria police and army have failed.

“Those people you are parading to the public are not ESN members. Nigeria must stop ridiculing themselves in the world becauseeveryone is watching their activities.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has again met with his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, while being detained in the facility of the Department of State Service.

Ejiofor disclosed this in a message titled “Update” issued on Monday evening.

He wrote, “After weeks of speculations and uncertainties, we have finally seen our client-Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We can authoritatively confirm this position to the world.

“He is firm and stable, less the burden of solitary confinement and concomitant mental torture arising therefrom. Though the detaining authority is giving him medical attention but he still requires advanced medical care, which formed substantial part of the relief in our application before the court.”

He also stated Kanu requested that he extends his compliment to millions of his supporters and all foreign governments and institutions, and media houses who are relentlessly following up.

“We are winning but your prayers are doing wonders, don’t relent, as you continue to remain law-abiding.

“We shall continue to keep you all in constant communication on every development around him particularly now that the visit will be more regular than before,” Ejiofor added.

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested one Yahaya Zakari for allegedly taking a young woman to his house at Sabuwar Gandu in Kano metropolis.
The Commander General of the board, Dr Harun Ibn-Sina, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Kano on Friday.
A copy of the statement, signed by Malam Lawal Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of the agency, was available to the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to him, the arrest was made following reports from residents of the area.
“The young woman went to buy drugs from Zakari’s chemist when he took her to his house,” he said.
Ibn-Sina expressed displeasure over the alleged action, assuring that the board would conduct thorough investigation into the development.
He therefore advised parents to monitor the movement of their children closely, especially female wards, to prevent unwanted incidents.

The Nigerian Army says the troops of Operation Hadin Kai have taken custody of 91 Boko Haram/Islamic States West Africa Province terrorists and their families who surrendered recently in North East.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Nwachukwu said the troops of 202 Battalion took custody of eight insurgents and their families, comprising 10 adult females and 22 children, who surrendered at Ruwaza village in Bama Local Government Area of Borno.

He said the troops of Forward Operational Base operating along BoCobs-Bama road also arrested 20 terrorists and their families, who surrendered to troops at Nbewa village also in Bama Local Government Area.

According to him, the surrendered families of the insurgents comprised 15 adult females and 26 children.

“The suspects all surrendered to the troops, during clearance operations in the areas on July 29, following ongoing intense clearance operations by troops in the general areas.

“The children among the surrendering suspects have been vaccinated with polio vaccines, while the adult and female suspects, who have been documented and screened are currently undergoing preliminary investigations,” he said.

Nwachukwu also disclosed that troops of 73 Battalion, in conjunction with a combined team of Civilian Joint Task Force and Hunters, intercepted a terrorists’ logistic supplier during a fighting patrol along Molai-Damboa road.

He said the team swiftly mobilised and stormed the location, where they arrested the suspect, while he was perfecting plans to deliver logistics to the insurgents in the forest.

He said the items recovered from the suspect include a vehicle, four jerry cans of 30 litres of PMS, one four-litre gallon of engine oil, one motorcycle pump, one oil treatment, and one torch light.

According to him, other items recovered are one mosquito net, two praying mats, two blankets, four spanners, 10 packets of 1.5v battery and three dozens of diamond rubber solution.

“Others are five packets of candies, five packets of seasoning and measures of other foodstuff,” he said.

pipeline project currently under

Group Managing Director, Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation,
Mele Kyari, said this on Thursday
at the Gas Sector Stakeholders’
Forum in Kano State.

Kyari said in a statement issued
in Abuja by NNPC spokesperson,
Kennie Obateru, that the ongoing
614km gas pipeline would be
delivered on schedule and would
serve as gas supply link to other
African countries and Europe upon
completion.

He was quoted as saying, “This
project has been on the drawing
board for 30 years and the dream
was to have gas delivered to
Europe across the Trans-Sahara
route.

“What we are seeing today
would deliver at least two billion
standard cubic feet of gas to the
domestic market at the first
instance with the potential to
increase it.

“What this means is that it will
de-bottleneck the gas supply
network in the entire country.”

Kyari said the President, Major
General Muhammadu Buhari
(retd.), had provided all the
necessary support and incentives
to deliver on this project.

The NNPC boss further noted
that the AKK gas project would
boost the agricultural and
manufacturing sectors, adding
that it would reduce the
nation’s carbon footprint as part
of measures to cut down on
global warming and climate
change.

In his keynote address, the
Minister of State for Petroleum
Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva,
said the forum would ensure
collaboration among stakeholders
to kick-start activities that would
guarantee the usage of the gas
to be delivered through the AKK
pipeline when completed.
