The Federal Government of Nigeria,
States and Local Government
Councils shared N7.23trillion from
the Federation Account in 2020.

The fund comprises collections by
revenue generators, including
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)
Department of Petroleum
Resources (DPR) and Federal
Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Every month, the Federation
Account Allocation Committee
(FAAC), chaired by the Minister of
State for Finance, meets with
State Commissioners of Finance
for disbursement.

In 2020, while the Federal
Government and its agencies
received N3.04trillion, States and
LGs got N4.18trillion.

The N4.18trillion is N232billion
lesser than the N4.4trillion the two
tiers received in 2019.

In a report by Economic
Confidential, Lagos is ranked the
highest recipient with a sum of N299billion in twelve months.

Delta received N247billion, Akwa
Ibom N212billion, Rivers N198billion
and Kano N174billion. The five
states got 25 percent of total
allocation.

Other states in top 10 were
Bayelsa N152billion, Katsina
N130billion, Oyo N127billion, Kaduna
N124billion and Borno N115billion.

The lowest recipients were Gombe
N72billion, Ebonyi N73billion,
Nasarawa N73billion, Ekiti N74billion
and Kwara N77billion.

Edo, Ondo, Cross River, all oil-
producing states, got N99billion,
N97billion and N86billion
respectively.

Factors that influence allocations to
states and local councils include
population, derivation, land mass,
revenue generation drive, school
enrolments, health facilities, water
supply, among others.

Some leaders of Southern Nigeria
and the Middle Belt, under the
auspices of the Nigerian Indigenous
Nationalities Alliance for Self-
determination (NINAS) have warned
the international community against
giving loans to the Nigerian
Government, stating that "Nigeria
is now a country with questionable
sovereignty".

Notable members of the group are
former Military Vice-President of
Nigeria, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe
(Rtd); former Governor of Plateau
State, Jonah Jang; renowned
historian and Second Republic
member of the Senate, Banji
Akintoye; former President-General
of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia
Nwodo; respected don, Prof. Yusuf
Turaki, and 124 others.

The statement signed by Otunba
Shade Olukoya, Treasurer, Ilana
Omo Oodua, and Chairman,
Steering Committee of NINAS read,

“Again, we remind the
International Community that
In the statement, NINAS warned
the World Bank, International
Monetary Fund (IMF), United
Nations, African Union, European
Union, United States, French,
Chinese and British governments to cease giving loans to the Nigerian Government, stressing that borrowing a "disputed project" can only considered an act of negligence.

Nigeria is now a disputed project.
This was articulated in our Press
Conference of 16 December 2020,
when we declared a Constitutional
Force Majeure.

"Subsequent activities as
articulated at Press Conferences
of 17 March 2021, and 17 April 2021
emphasise that Nigeria remains a
disputed project. Knowing this and
lending to a disputed project can
only be considered negligence.

NINAS is the multi-ethnic alliance
of the indigenous peoples of the
Middle Belt (part of the former
Northern Region), Ilana Omo Oodua
(the former Western Region), and
the Lower Niger (Former Eastern
& Mid-Western Regions).

Although each group works
separately in their blocs, they come
together as the Movement for New
Nigeria (MNN) Alliance.

Chief Timipre Sylva, Minister of
State for Petroleum has said that
Nigeria accidentally discovered 206
trillion cubic feet of gas reserves
while in search of crude oil.

Sylva, who disclosed this in Abuja
at a News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) forum, disclosed that the
country could discover an additional
600 trillion cubic feet reserve to
enable it achieve the desired
development required of a gas
nation.

“We’ve a lot of gas in this
country. We have 206 trillion cubic
feet of gas reserves.

“This number is already
discovered in gas reserves and this
206 trillion cubic feet reserve was
found while looking for oil, so it
was accidentally discovered.

“We were actually going to look
for crude oil and we found gas,
and in that process of accidentally
finding gas, we have found up to
206 tcf.

“So, the belief is that if we
really aim to look for gas
dedicatedly, we will find up to 600
trillion cubic meters of gas,” he
said.

According to the minister, the
country’s transition from gas to
renewable fuel will be gradual
when it has fully utilised the
benefits associated with gas.

“We are also transiting and that
is why we are talking about gas.
We see gas as a bridge to
renewable fuels.

“We came from coal which is
solid, to crude oil; now we are
moving to gaseous gas and then to
renewables.

“The belief in the industry is that
if we have this kind of vast
resource and we have not tapped
it, why should we abandon it and
move to renewables.

“We have not used gas to drive
our cars and few people use it for
cooking; we have not used gas to
generate electricity or used it to
fire our fertiliser blending plants,
then why should we abandon it
and move to renewables?

“What we are saying is that the
western countries are in a position
to move to renewables after using
coal and crude oil to stabilise the
electricity in their areas and
everybody there enjoys it.

“But we have a situation in
Nigeria where a lot of people do
not have access to electricity yet.

“So, what we are saying is that
we agree to transit but let us use
our gas first to develop our
country and get the benefits of
development, that point where
everybody has electricity, then we
can transit to renewable fuel,” he
added.

Some Nigerians on social media
have slammed some Northern
groups for placing a bounty on the
leader of the Indigenous People of
Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The PUNCH had earlier reported
that a coalition of 75 Northern
groups under the aegis of the
Northern Consensus Movement
placed a N100 million reward for
anybody who could produce Kanu,
for him to be tried over alleged
treason.

The NCM specifically accused Kanu
and IPOB militant wing, Eastern
Security Network of masterminding
the recent spate of attacks on
Northern communities in the South-
East.


This claim did not go well with
some Nigerians as they have taken
to Facebook to slam NCM, asking
the group to place bounty on Boko
Haram and bandits instead.shouldn’t love your neighbours

to fight insurgency, terrorism,

A Facebook user, Oyebode

Governor of Rivers State, Chief
Nyesom Wike, says it is
unconstitutional for President
Muhammadu Buhari to shift the
power of securing the life and
property of Nigerians to the state
governors.
Wike noted that President
Muhammadu Buhari is the
Commander-In-Chief of the Armed
Forces and cannot declare that
governors are in charge of security
in their respective states.
The governor, who spoke at the
commissioning of the 21 kilometres
Odufor-Akpoku-Umuoye Road in
Etche Local Government Area of
the State, Tuesday, according to a
statement by his Special Assistant
on Media Kelvin Ebiri, said such
position suggests that the APC led
federal government has lost grip
of the strategy of how to tackle
insecurity.
He said: “Mr President, you’re
the Commander-in-Chief of the
Armed Forces of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria. You appoint
Inspector General of Police (IG),
you appoint the Chief of Army
Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, the
Commissioner of Police (CP),
Director of Department of State
Service (DSS), and other heads of
security. Which one do we appoint?
How can people appointed by Mr
President be under me?
“It is not only to borrow money
for Nigeria that you’re in charge.
You must, also, be in charge of
other things including security. Who
signed Order 10? Is it the
governors? It is not when things
are going bad concerning security,
and you say you’re not in charge,
and it becomes governors’
responsibility.”
Wike admonished the APC federal
government to own up that it can
no longer fulfil promises made to
Nigerians, and also lead the
country out of its present
predicament. According to Governor
Wike, when there is a failure,
what makes leadership respectable
is that such leader is able to
accept its weakness publicly.
The governor pointed out that it
was time Nigerians began to
compare the performances of PDP
and APC governors in office.
He said Mr President was short of
calling names of those governors
who run to Aso Rock when they
are supposed to stay in their
states to see the needs of their
states and people.
“Mr President should have come
out openly and said, my APC
governors, stop worrying me. Go
back to your states and do your
work. On that, I support him.
“Thank God, Mr President knows
that I am not one of those that go
to visit him over one problem or
the other. I, as the governor of
Rivers under PDP, you’ll never
find me there.”
Meanwhile, former Senate
President, Senator David Mark, who
performed the commissioning of
the 21 kilometers Odufor-Akpoku-
Umuoye Road, noted the
excitement expressed on the faces
of the locals who are directly
impacted by the project.
He noted that even those in
opposition in the state have
become so weak to have anything
more to say against Governor
Wike who is not only performing,
but has remained as a strong pillar
of the PDP.
“I told him I’ll be here because
he loves his people. Politics and
democracy is not about enriching
one or two persons within a
community. The Odufor-Akpoku-
Umuoye Road is project that will
outlive everybody in this place. The
legacy you’re leaving behind,
Rivers people will not forget you.

Barely two days after an attack on Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna state, unknown gunmen have again attacked Kofar Gayan and Kofar Kona areas of Zaria and abducted some residents.
Recall that a similar incident occurred at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, where one student was killed, while two lecturers and eight students were abducted.
ASP Mohammed Jalige, Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Command, who confirmed the incident, said he was trying to gather details to update the press.
However, an official of Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KadVS), said the incident occurred between 12.01 and 1.00 am on Saturday.
The official, who did not give details on the exact number of people abducted by the kidnappers, said the incident occurred around Government Girls Secondary School, Kofar Gayan. An eyewitness, Malam Abdullahi Mohammed, a resident of the area, said that no fewer than 12 people were abducted during the operation. He added that about eight people were kidnapped from a single house, while others were picked separately. Similarly, the daughter of one of the victims, Hafsat Kusfa, said the bandits broke into their home around 12.01 am and assembled them in front of the house. The official, who did not give details on the exact number of people abducted by the kidnappers, said the incident occurred around Government Girls Secondary School, Kofar Gayan.
An eyewitness, Malam Abdullahi Mohammed, a resident of the area, said that no fewer than 12 people were abducted during the operation.
He added that about eight people were kidnapped from a single house, while others were picked separately.
Similarly, the daughter of one of the victims, Hafsat Kusfa, said the bandits broke into their home around 12.01 am and assembled them in front of the house.

She added that the bandits, who were about seven in number carrying guns and marchets, took away eight members of her family, including her father, mother, sisters and brothers.
Kusfa said her father and mother, as well as some of the kidnapped victims, were later released through the efforts of security men who intercepted the hoodlums.
