UNIZIK:Staff member not involved in viral video of a university personnel caught in inappropriate behaviour.

Debunking the misleading report of a sex scandal in the university.

The attention of the Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been drawn to a viral video and news reports circulating online about a lecturer erroneously identified as a staff member of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, reportedly caught engaging in inappropriate behaviour with a student on university premises.

We wish to categorically state that the report is not only false but misleading.

After due verification, it has been established that the incident did not happen at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. The man in question, seen in the viral video, is also not a staff member of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. For the record, no staff or student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University is connected in any way to the said incident.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University upholds the highest standards of professional conduct and discipline among its staff and students. Staff members of the university are guided by strong ethics, while the University management also has zero tolerance for students’ exploitation under any guise. We will not be associated with false information that damages the reputation of our institution.

The advent of citizen journalism, social media and the rush to break news first and also gain traffic has fueled misinformation, disinformation and the spread of outright falsehood. However, digital communication has also made it much easier to balance news reports and fact-check certain information before public dissemination.

We therefore urge members of the public, media houses, and online platforms to desist from spreading unverified information and to take immediate steps to retract and correct the publication. We also encourage journalists to always verify facts with the appropriate authorities before publication, as we reiterate an open-doo approach to information and communication.

UNIZIK's CACORP Partners with TEVA Foods for 2026 Tree Planting Initiative, Reinforcing Commitment to Sustainable Agriculture

The Centre for Agripreneurship and Cooperative Research/Practice (CACORP), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka successfully hosted its 2026 Tree Planting Programme on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in partnership with TEVA Foods, Jos, Plateau State. The event emphasised a shared commitment to environmental sustainability, agricultural entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.


The event began with a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, before the main event held in the Board Room of the Faculty of Management Sciences. Receiving the delegation, led by TEVA Foods Chief Executive Officer Mr Chima Christian, the Vice-Chancellor commended the organisation's contributions to agricultural development. It affirmed the University's readiness to pursue strategic partnerships that advance innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. He noted that UNIZIK remains committed to collaborations capable of delivering lasting benefits across education, agriculture, research, and community development.
In response, Mr Christian thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his hospitality and willingness to partner with TEVA Foods, while highlighting the company's growth and continued dedication to agricultural innovation, value addition, and youth empowerment. He also expressed interest in visiting the University's Faculty of Agriculture campus at Ifite-Ogwari to explore further areas of collaboration in agricultural research, training, and production.


Held under the theme "Planting Trees for Posterity, Climate Action and Prosperity," the main event featured a keynote address by Mr Christian, who encouraged students to view agriculture as a viable pathway to financial independence and national development. He shared practical insights on cultivating apple seeds and outlined the economic potential of processing agricultural products such as dried African star apple (Udara) and dried mangoes, urging participants to pursue agribusiness and value addition as sustainable wealth-creation strategies. Drawing on Nigeria's estimated 10.9 billion trees and their role in regulating carbon emissions, he lamented the underutilisation of this resource and called on Nigerians to acquire agricultural skills to strengthen food production and revenue generation.


Declaring the event open on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Stephen Ufoaroh, former Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIZIK Chapter, urged Nigerians to embrace farming to boost food production, support afforestation, create jobs, and protect ecosystems. He commended CACORP for its role in promoting agricultural values and conveyed the Vice-Chancellor's pledge to strengthen the University's collaboration with TEVA Foods. Prof. Ufoaroh later presented an Award of Recognition to Mr Christian on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and CACORP, in appreciation of his contributions to agricultural development and youth empowerment.
In her welcome address, the Director of CACORP, Dr Nma Okechukwu Okoroji, described tree planting as an enduring investment in future generations and reaffirmed the Centre's vision to become a world-class hub for agripreneurship and cooperative development. She noted that CACORP advances sustainable livelihoods, food security, and rural transformation in Nigeria and across Africa through research, training, and enterprise development, citing the Centre's record of training over 2,500 students, youths, and farmers in cooperative management, agripreneurship, climate-smart agriculture, and value-chain development, alongside progress in cooperative strengthening, research and demonstration farms, partnerships, and policy advocacy. Quoting Genesis 2:15, she characterised tree planting as a divine mandate and encouraged greater investment in agriculture for food security and economic growth, while thanking TEVA Foods and the Vice-Chancellor for their continued support.

The Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Francis Nwankwo, stated that the tree-planting flag-off reflects UNIZIK's broader commitment to food security, agricultural innovation, and national development, and commended Dr Okoroji's leadership in advancing agripreneurship and cooperative development at the University.


Representing the Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Ben Odoemena, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Chinyere Nwabachili, described the programme's theme as timely, stressing that tree planting and climate action must align with sustainable agribusiness. She noted that the Ministry is pursuing private-sector engagement, irrigation-led production, and competitive value chains as part of the State's industrialisation agenda.


Other goodwill messages came from the Anambra State Chairperson of the National Coalition of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors Association of Nigeria (NACOPPMAN), Hon. Emily Uzoh, who advocated coconut cultivation as a source of revenue and afforestation; the South-East Zonal Chairman of NACOPPMAN, Rev. Elvis Okolie, who emphasised skills development as a vital form of wealth creation; and the Anambra State Coordinator of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Mrs. Angela Uche-Echieh, who called for increased investment in agriculture to drive socio-economic development. The Anambra State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, High Chief Arthur Mbuba, also commended the strengthened collaboration with UNIZIK and assured of further federal support for agricultural initiatives.


The ceremony's highlights were the official tree-planting exercise led by the Vice-Chancellor, the distribution of coconut seedlings from CACORP to guests, and the presentation of a memorabilia to Mr Christian in recognition of his leadership in agripreneurship, youth empowerment, and climate action.

The event drew a wide range of distinguished guests, including representatives of NACOPPMAN, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, university staff and students, agricultural enthusiasts, and environmental advocates.

In a major boost to its internationalisation drive under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has formally joined the Consortium of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Universities, a prestigious global network of higher institutions committed to advancing international cooperation in education, research, innovation, and cultural exchange.

The milestone achievement further underscores Prof. Anyaehie's vision of positioning UNIZIK as a globally competitive university and creates new opportunities for strategic partnerships, academic excellence, and international engagement.

SSANU, UNIZIK Insists On Indefinite Strike, Rejects FG's 30%

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, held it's branch Congress on Thursday 23rd April 2026 at the SSANU Secretariat and insisted on an indefinite strike, while rejecting the alleged Federal Government's 30% pay rise.

The resolutions of the Branch Congress was conveyed in a statement signed by the Chairperson, Comrade Chukwudi Anthonia and Secretary, Comrade Tevin Anyali.

The resolution reads in part, "The Branch Congress condemned in the strongest terms the unnecessary delay, the divide-and-rule attempt by the Federal Government, and the lack of priority given to the renegotiation agreement with SSANU, broadening on monetary and non-monetary issues. The Congress decided as follows:

1. That the branch rejects the purported and maliciously circulated 30% increase in the consolidated salary structure, allegedly signed by the Minister of Education, and will resist any attempt to arm-twist the members of the Union.

2. That the deliberate delay by the Federal Government in addressing critical staff welfare and non-monetary issues initiated by SSANU will affect industrial harmony and stability in the university system.

3. That the branch wholly aligns itself with the decision of the SSANU NEC to embark on industrial action at the expiration of the 30-day ultimatum given to the Federal Government to conclude and sign an agreement with SSANU.

4. That the industrial action, if and when declared by the national leadership of SSANU, will be total, uncompromising, comprehensive, and indefinite, and members of the union will render no skeletal or essential services if the Federal Government fails to address all pending issues, reach, and sign an agreement on or before 30th April 2026.

5. That all members are enjoined to remain vigilant, united, law-abiding, and responsive to subsequent directives from the national and branch leadership of SSANU.

Recall that in 2022, SSANU members embarked on a four-month Industrial action to press for some of their demands, including a better welfare package. During that strike, all administrative functions within public universities in Nigeria were grounded, with hostels, university gates, classrooms, and offices locked, and electricity supply cut off by the striking non-teaching staff.

"Navigating Research Success": Faculty of Bio Sciences Hosts One-Day Training with Prof. Moses Ikegbunam, Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology (Malaria Genetics Bias)

The Faculty of Bio Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in collaboration with the Inter-Departmental Research Committee (IDRC), recently organised a One-Day Research Training themed "Navigating Rugged Paths to Research Success." The event took place on February 10th at the Needs Assessment Building, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Ken Ekwualor, Dean of the Faculty of Bio Sciences, expressed his gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for approving the training. He welcomed all participants and emphasised the importance of continuous professional development in academia. He encouraged everyone to take advantage of every learning opportunity, noting that regardless of their position or achievements, there is always room for further training and growth. Additionally, he urged all researchers to aim to publish at least five scholarly papers annually to enhance their research productivity, a practice he follows himself.

The guest speaker, Prof. Moses Ikegbunam, a Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology specialising in Malaria Genetic Bias, delivered his first presentation titled "Research Networks: Building Collaborations for Grants, Publications, and Growth." He emphasised that research is an active, engagement-driven profession where collaboration accelerates progress. Prof. Ikegbunam defined research networks as strategic professional relationships that yield tangible outcomes such as joint publications, co-authored grants, shared datasets, and training opportunities. He noted that early-career researchers particularly benefit from networking, as it leads to faster publications, mentorship, increased visibility, and improved access to grants. He outlined a practical five-step approach to building networks, identified platforms for finding collaborators, and proposed a 30-day action plan for participants to follow. Key takeaways included: always offering value before making requests, prioritising publication in journals indexed on PubMed for greater visibility, and establishing clear agreements early regarding authorship, data use, and ethical safeguards to protect all parties involved.

In his second presentation, titled "Postdoctoral Training: Securing a Postdoctoral Position," Prof. Ikegbunam explained the concept and value of postdoctoral training. He outlined its benefits for researchers, such as demonstrating research independence, strengthening publication records, and building lasting collaborative networks. He also emphasised the advantages for host laboratories, including access to skilled researchers, specialised expertise, and collaborative links to relevant populations or research settings. He discussed how early-career researchers can prepare for competitive postdoctoral positions and how to identify suitable host institutions and opportunities.

His third presentation focused on "Securing Funded Conferences," where he provided strategies for obtaining travel grants for international conferences.

Dr Chika Anthony Okonkwo, Deputy Director of Research and Innovation, delivered a presentation titled "Tips on Winning Institutional-Based Research (IBR) Grants." He defined the Institutional-Based Research Grant, sponsored by TETFund, and outlined strategies for securing funding. Dr Okonkwo explained that proposals must first be screened by the Institution's Committee on Research (ICR) before submission and noted that TETFund allocates funds particularly for early-career researchers (within eight years post-PhD), with approved funds disbursed in full. He pointed out common reasons proposals fail, including weak problem statements, unclear objectives, unrealistic methodologies, inflated budgets, misalignment with TETFund priority areas, and noncompliance with guidelines. He also briefly discussed the characteristics of publishable articles, the significance of impact factor journals, and journal quartile rankings. In conclusion, he stressed that clarity is essential; a well-defined, focused research idea is more competitive than a broad but poorly articulated proposal.

Prof. Dennis Arigbodor made brief remarks introducing the TETFund Centre of Excellence (TCE) at NAU for Translational Studies. He explained its tuition-free Master's and PhD programs, which provide research and convocation support, and encouraged individuals with innovative, solution-driven ideas to apply.

Dr J.O. Ezeadila delivered the closing charge, followed by final remarks and prayers, marking the end of the workshop.

Agricultural Revolution: CACORP, UNIZIK Turning Ideas into Harvest

The Centre for Agripreneur and Cooperative Research/Practice (CACORP), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in collaboration with Teva Foods from Jos, Plateau State, recently hosted its inaugural Capacity Building Workshop and Practical Field Session themed "Sustainable Veggie Farming: Turning Your Ideas into Harvest." The event took place on February 6, 2026, in the Board Room of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

In his opening remarks, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Stanley Bond Anyaehie commended Dr Nma Okechukwu Okoroji, the pioneer Director of CACORP, for this initiative aimed at exposing students to entrepreneurial ideas.

Professor Anyaehie shared insights from his visit to Israel, where he observed advanced farming techniques. He expressed his commitment to adopting similar approaches, particularly greenhouse farming, which he aims to establish as a flagship project for the year.

He announced plans to create a university company called "UNIZIK Farm and Agro Business" to ensure the productive use of the university's 350 hectares of land. He highlighted Teva Foods as a key strategic partner in advancing agriculture in the Eastern region.

In her welcome address, Dr Nma Okechukwu Okoroji expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for approving the workshop and welcomed distinguished guests, including High Chief Arthur Mbuba, State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), Anambra State; Dr Foster Ihejiofor, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Anambra State; Mr Christian Udechukwu, Honourable Commissioner for Industry, Anambra State; and Mr Chima Christian, Co-Founder/CEO of Teva Foods, Jos.

Dr Okoroji remarked, "Welcome to this maiden edition of the CACORP Capacity Building Workshop and Practical Field Session, organised in collaboration with Teva Foods, Jos. Your presence today reflects our collective commitment to innovation, food security, and sustainable agricultural enterprise."

The theme of the workshop, "Sustainable Veggie Farming: Turning Your Ideas into Harvest," speaks directly to contemporary realities and opportunities. Globally, vegetable production has transformed into a vibrant economic sector capable of generating employment, enhancing nutrition, and driving value chains. From greenhouse horticulture in Europe to cooperative vegetable clusters in Africa and Asia, experience shows that well-nurtured ideas can yield both food and prosperity.

However, within our environment, challenges persist, including access to quality inputs, climate variability, post-harvest losses, and gaps in entrepreneurial skills. These barriers can deter participation, especially among young people. Yet, these same challenges also present opportunities for innovation, technology adoption, cooperative engagement, and enterprise development.

Dr Okoroji urged students and participants to view agriculture not merely as an academic subject but as a platform for wealth creation, societal service, and national transformation. "Agripreneurship is not about returning to the past; it is about building the future by applying intelligence, creativity, and technology to produce value. Whether through vegetable cultivation, processing, marketing, or logistics, there is room for your ideas to develop into sustainable livelihoods."

She humorously noted that "Agriculture teaches patience because you cannot plant tomatoes today and harvest stew tomorrow.” This truth serves to remind us that productivity and prosperity require time, discipline, and commitment.

The workshop is designed to provide practical and technical insights, and Dr Okoroji encouraged active engagement: "I therefore encourage you to participate fully, ask questions, and engage actively in the field session. Let this experience inspire action beyond this venue. Turn what you learn into ventures, cooperatives, research initiatives, and solutions that benefit society."

This maiden capacity-building program reflects CACORP's vision and mission to transform knowledge into practical, profitable, and sustainable agribusiness outcomes. We plan to sustain this initiative quarterly, although participants should note that future editions may not be free, as we must maintain program sustainability and quality delivery. Our goal is to place Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on the global map through CACORP activities and agricultural projects at our one-hectare farmland on the main campus, where we grow vegetables and other crops, and the 20 hectares at Umueje, where we cultivate coconut and plantain.

Dr Okoroji shared a scriptural reflection, reminding us that “humanity was placed in the garden to till it and keep it," emphasising stewardship and productivity. She quoted Ecclesiastes 11:6, which encourages us to "sow diligently, for we do not know which effort will prosper; perhaps both.” She also referenced Genesis 8:22: "While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."


Mr Chima Christian, the CEO of Teva Foods, served as the guest speaker and delivered an insightful keynote address. He emphasised that creativity, innovative ideas, and realistic plans are essential for unlocking opportunities in agro-business. Mr Christian argued that Africa should not be associated with poverty, highlighting that Nigeria’s main challenge is not a shortage of land, but rather the underutilization of its resources. He specifically noted that UNIZIK has approximately 350 hectares of unused land, which could be leveraged to create a strong value chain aimed at eradicating poverty across the nation.

A significant announcement from Mr Christian involved Teva Foods offering startup capital of ₦500,000 to five students. To qualify for this funding, students must present a plot of land they own, along with a viable business plan. This initiative encourages students to take immediate action on their entrepreneurial ideas.

Engr. Ekeh Christian represented High Chief Arthur Mbuba, the Anambra State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), Abuja. He described the workshop as timely, particularly as it provides an opportunity for the youth to channel their energy and ideas into enterprises aimed at eliminating poverty.

During the question-and-answer session organised by the UNIZIKFM, a 300-level student from the Department of Food Sciences and Technology, Master Nwonne Obinna Ekpe, along with a 200-level student from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, shared their thoughts on the workshop. They described it as insightful and beneficial, emphasising the importance of meeting and engaging with like-minded individuals to address the challenges in the sector.

The workshop included a practical field session in which Miss Chukwuleta Nmesomachukwu Esther, a 300-level student of Cooperative Economics and Management, delivered the vote of thanks during the farming activities. She is also one of the students whose pumpkin leaves are thriving in the practical exercises taking place at the demonstration farm.

Dr Nma Okechukwu Okoroji Receives Donation of 30 Knapsack Sprayers for CACORP, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka

Dr Nma Okechukwu Okoroji, the pioneer Director of the Centre for Agripreneur and Cooperative Research/Practice (CACORP), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, received a donation of 30 brand new knapsack sprayers from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), Abuja on Thursday, 29th January, 2026.

In an interview, Dr Okoroji stated that the donation is part of a recently established partnership between CACORP and FMAFS aimed at advancing agricultural research and development across Nigeria, with Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka serving as a key focal point. Dr Okoroji expressed her gratitude to the Federal Government and FMAFS for their support, emphasising the potential impact of the donation on local agricultural practices.

Dr Okoroji further quoted that "these knapsack sprayers will significantly enhance the productivity of our demonstration farms, enabling us to engage in year-round farming activities and improve crop management.” She described the sprayers' efficiency in pesticide and fertiliser application, which is expected to reduce labour costs while increasing crop yields.

Dr Okoroji also acknowledged the crucial role played by the university's Vice Chancellor Prof. Bond Stanley Ugochukwu Anyaehie, in securing this partnership that facilitated the input donation.

The newly acquired equipment will not only boost farm productivity and income but will also enhance student training and practical experiences, while supporting community outreach and extension services. Dr Okoroji noted that CACORP is dedicated to empowering future agricultural innovators and local farmers in Nigeria, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical agrarian development.

“With these kinds of inputs and additional material and financial support, our centre will solidify its leading position in contributing to agricultural development in Nigeria,” she concluded.

The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, received the Council of Past Students’ Union Government (SUG) Presidents in his office on Monday, January 12, 2026.

The delegation was led by Comrade Hon. Barr. Patrick Afubera, who stated that the council's primary objective is to support the university management in addressing students’ challenges and promoting a conducive academic environment. He also expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for granting them an audience despite his tight schedule.

In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie thanked the council for its visit and reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning UNIZIK and implementing positive reforms. Enugu Indigene Welfare Association Marks 30 Years at UNIZIK with Awards

The Enugu Indigene Welfare Association, UNIZIK Chapter, celebrated three decades of service and community with a combined 30th Anniversary and Award Ceremony on Friday, 5th December 2025. The event was held at the Chiso Institute Mini Auditorium, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

In his welcome address, the association's Chairman, Mr Onyebuchi Eze, traced the group's origins to February 15, 1995. He noted it was formed following the creation of Enugu State from the old Anambra State in 1991, initially comprising about 20 staff members with the late Mr E.U. Okeke as its pioneer Chairman.

Mr Eze outlined the association's core mandate: to cater to the welfare of Enugu State indigene working at UNIZIK through support during illness or bereavement, advocacy, and fostering camaraderie. He reported significant growth from the founding 20 to about 350 staff across the Awka, Nnewi, and Agulu campuses.

Describing a key achievement, Eze announced the association's formal registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), which grants it greater recognition and operational security.

However, the Chairman also outlined pressing challenges, including low membership registration among senior academic staff, irregular payment of dues, and the lack of a permanent meeting space. He appealed for support to acquire land to build an "Enugu Indigene Hall" and establish a business centre to boost the group's financial sustainability.

The anniversary lecture featured a health talk by Professor George Uchenna Eleje, a Consultant Obstetrician-Gynaecologist. His presentation, "Eliminating Cervical and Prostate Cancers in our Society," stated epidemiology, clinical features, and prevention strategies for both emphasising vaccination and screening.

A second paper on "Work Ethics of Great Achievers" was delivered by Rev. Sam Ufo, former Acting Registrar of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, emphasised values like punctuality, diligence, excellence, and teamwork as pillars for optimal service delivery.

The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to several members for exemplary service. Notable awardees included Comrade Ezema N. Thomson (Founder/Patron), Dr Cletus N. Nwofia, Prof. F.C. Eze, Prof. R.O. Ani, and High Chief Damian Ifedi.

The event also featured the unveiling of the association's official uniform and the launching of its constitution.

UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor Pledges Collaborative Partnership with Anambra Community Leaders

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie, has pledged his administration's readiness to partner with community stakeholders for the development of the institution. He made the pledge during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Forum of Anambra State Village Chairmen on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

The delegation, led by its Chairman, Mr. Osita K. Ozalagba, visited the Vice-Chancellor to formally congratulate him on his recent appointment.

In his address, Mr. Ozalagba commended the transparent process that led to Prof. Anyaehie's selection, describing him as a "good manager" for the university.

He emphasized UNIZIK's status as a foremost citadel of learning within their communities and assured the Vice-Chancellor of their forum's unwavering support.

"Ours is Grace at Work, and we will be there for you always," Ozalagba stated, extending a hand of fellowship to the university's chief executive.

In his response, Prof. Anyaehie expressed his gratitude for the visit, particularly noting that the group came without immediate demands. He assured them of his open-door policy and willingness to collaborate.

UNIZIK Vice Chancellor Conducts Facility Tour, Pledges Immediate Reforms

The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, visited several key facilities on Thursday, 27th November, 2025, addressing long-standing issues and directing immediate corrective actions.

The Vice Chancellor's tour commenced at the Early Childhood and Primary Education Department, where he was received by the Crèche Coordinator, Mrs. Nnalue Ifunanya Ann, and Prof. Faith Ebele Anyachebelu. Prof. Anyaehie conducted a thorough assessment of the facility, including the crèche, the Educational Management and Policy annexe, laboratories, and the library.

A significant tour was the inspection of the non-functional University Water Factory. The facility's operator, Mr. Obinna Nwokohu, detailed the operational challenges. In a decisive move, Prof. Anyaehie assured staff of his commitment to reviving the facility, setting a ambitious target to restore operations by 3:00 p.m. the same day.

The inspection also covered the UNIZIK Football Pitch, where the Vice Chancellor was briefed that portions of the facility are currently being repurposed for office use by the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The tour proceeded to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University High School, where the Vice Chancellor was warmly received by the Principal, Mrs. Olanike Akimuke Israel, Vice Principals, and teaching staff. During the engagement, teachers raised critical concerns, including severe classroom shortages, poor remuneration, dilapidated facilities, and an unequipped library.

Prof. Anyaehie, visibly concerned by the poor state of the school premises, immediately directed the Principal to oversee the cutting of overgrown grasses. To ensure a systematic resolution of the deeper issues, he instructed the Principal to compile all grievances and announced the formation of a special committee.

The committee will be chaired by Prof. Ugochukwu Okonkwo, Chairman of the Parents-Teachers Council, and includes Engr. Joseph Onyenweife, the Acting Director of the Works Department, and the two Vice Principals.

Accompanied by the University Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, the Vice Chancellor’s final stop was the Records Unit of the Registry Department. The Head of the Unit, Mrs. Ifeanyi Njelita, outlined challenges such as a lack of modern work tools, inadequate office space, and the non-receipt of comprehensive academic records from various departments.

In response, Prof. Anyaehie acknowledged the unit's hard work and promised an honorarium as a motivational gesture. Addressing a major complaint from alumni, he committed to implementing transcript automation and an efficient feedback system to eliminate processing delays.

The family of late Ozo Chief German Nwofor ( Enyiwonwa) of Umuogbunu village, Awka, today, Monday, November 24th, 2025, played host to the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

During the visit, Barrister Chukwuma Nwofor, a family member, expressed gratitude to the University Management for their condolences. He stated the significant contributions made by the late Chief Ozo Nwofor during his lifetime, including offering one of his luxurious estates at the UNIZIK temporary site for the university's take-off following the demerger from ASUTECH, Enugu.

Barrister Chukwuma Nwofor described the late Ozo Nwofor as a great industrialist whose impact on the Awka community is worthy of emulation. He also noted that Enyikwonwa was a philanthropist whose generosity extended across towns and communities and he was the head of the Ozo Chieftancy family in Awka Kingdom

In response, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the family for their warm reception of the University delegation. He assured them of the university's full participation during the burial of the late business mogul. Prof. Anyaehie urged the family to keep the university informed about the date of the funeral ceremony as soon as it is scheduled.

UNIZIK VC, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie attends his first inaugural lecture, focusing on converting research into products to address societal issues

The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, attended his first inaugural lecture as the 7th substantive Vice Chancellor on November 20, 2025, at the University auditorium.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie emphasised that inaugural lectures are essential elements of university culture and provide a platform for professors to showcase their research in their respective fields. He encouraged researchers to think outside the box to find solutions to societal problems by translating their research into practical products. Prof. Anyaehie announced his commitment to enhancing the inaugural lecture program at the university by funding its activities and promoting research.

Engr. Professor Joseph Tagbo Nwabanne, from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, delivered the 117th Inaugural Lecture on the topic: "From Waste to Energy: Unlocking Nigeria's Biomass Potentials."

Prof. Nwabanne explained the importance of energy for human society and its significant environmental impact, which contributes to the global environmental crisis often referred to as the energy-environmental crisis. He stated that bioenergy is a promising alternative in the global energy transition, potentially contributing to sustainable energy demands for the future.

The inaugural lecturer explained that bioenergy is derived from bio-resources, involving the transformation of biomass into useful energy forms such as heat, electricity, and biofuels. He noted that converting biomass into energy can be achieved through methods such as direct combustion, anaerobic digestion, and biochemical processes like fermentation and transesterification.

Prof. Nwabanne pinpointed the critical role that chemical engineers play in the bioenergy economy, utilising their expertise to design, optimise, and scale up processes that convert biomass and waste materials into biofuels and other renewable energy forms. He asserted that chemical engineers are essential in advancing the transition to a more sustainable and renewable energy future.

He also shared his journey in bioenergy research, describing it as a productive venture that has led to the production of bioethanol, biodiesel, biogas, sustainable aviation fuel, and pyrolysis oil from various biomass and waste materials.

Additionally, Prof. Nwabanne cautioned that the competition for land and raw materials with alternative biomass applications must be carefully managed. He emphasised the need to enhance the yield of food and biomass feed stocks through improved farming methods. Furthermore, he pointed out that logistical and infrastructural challenges must be addressed, and that additional technological advancements are needed for more effective and cleaner conversion of a broad range of feedstocks.

The event concluded with the Vice Chancellor decorating Prof. Nwabanne with the Medal of Honour, as the 117th inaugural lecturer.

PROFESSOR UGOCHUKWU BOND STANLEY ANYAEHIE VOWS TO PRIORITIZE STUDENTS AND STAFF WELFARE.

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has promised to prioritise students and staff welfare, assuring that staff members employed since 2019 who are yet to receive salaries will get their first payment before Christmas.

Prof. Anyaehie gave the assurance at the Council Chambers of the university during a recent press briefing. He also noted that students' and staff's welfare would be a top priority under his leadership.

Prof. Bond Anyaehie described the situation where some staff employed since 2019 have not received a salary as "deeply unfair," adding that no worker deserves to be denied their wages for years. He pledged to address the lingering salary impasse in batches, stating that the Pro-Chancellor, Barr. Monsuru, Olugbenga Kukoyi is already in advanced discussions with relevant authorities to resolve the crisis and release funds for affected workers.

Prof. Bond Anyaehie reiterated his commitment to repositioning the university as one of the top institutions in Nigeria, noting that peace across the campus would be central to achieving his vision.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the negative reports dominating the university's image, promising to commission projects on campus within one to two months. The VC also outlined plans to engage students academically and in sports to curb cultism and related activities.

Anyaehie announced that graduates of the university during his tenure would earn three certifications upon completion of their programmes, aimed at enhancing their competitiveness nationally and globally. He expressed confidence that stakeholders, including alumni and partners in the diaspora, would support his administration's agenda, emphasising that the task ahead is enormous but achievable with peace on campus.

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, on Tuesday, 18th November, 2025, inspected students' hostels to get first-hand information from the students. Shortly after taking over as the Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anyaehie visited the students' hostels to assess the state of affairs. The hostels visited were Prof. Dora Akunyili Hostel (Female) and Basilio Aoli Hostel (Male).

Speaking on behalf of the students, Comrade Samuel Chinazam, and some spokespersons pointed out their needs, which included power supply and internet subscription. The Vice-Chancellor granted approval of a free WiFi subscription with immediate effect and assured them of prompt action regarding power supply.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the students to be committed to their studies, as the university will make the environment safe for learning.

Professor Anyaehie, a student-friendly leader, noted that his administration intends to engage with students (Class Reps) from time to time to know their plights. He assured the students that a channel of communication would be established where they could easily reach out for complaints and get prompt responses, and assured them of their well-being. "You will not return from Christmas holidays to the same conditions," he said.

Professor Anyaehie stated, during a press briefing, that he will commission projects within his first month in office. He inspected some uncompleted projects within the university, including the abandoned Vice-Chancellor's lodge and Alumni building, and called on stakeholders for prompt action for their completion.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by all the internal Governing Council Members and the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Nnewi, Prof F. Emejulu.

Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has taken over the mantle of leadership in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka as the 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor. Professor Anyaehie took over from Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi on Tuesday, 18th November 2025, who served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

In a brief handover ceremony held at the Vice-Chancellor's office, Professor Anyaehie expressed appreciation to God as the source of his strength and referenced Him as the One who, through His Grace, he was found worthy to be appointed as the Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the great institution named after the Zik of Africa.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that his administration would be open to all and welcomed collective ideas to move the university forward. He called for collaboration from critical stakeholders and assured that he is ready to work with all stakeholders to actualise the vision and mission of the institution and achieve excellence.

Professor Anyaehie affirmed that his administration's priority centres on the welfare of students and staff, stating that students are the main reason people were employed.

Earlier in her speech, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, the Immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, expressed joy and thanked God for birthing a giant successor with a proven track record. She noted that she and Professor Anyaehie served in the Governing Council of a university and that he has proven integrity. She urged Professor Anyaehie to be focused and ignore gossipers in his administration to move the university forward, she pledged her continued support for the success of Professor Anyaehie's administration.

The highlight of the ceremony was a prayer session, committing the administration of Professor Anyaehie and the university to God, the official handover of documents to the Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Arinze-Umobi leading the Vice-Chancellor to take his official seat.

The Joint University Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, organised an orientation program for its newly admitted students on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Natural Science/JUPEB auditorium.

In his welcome remarks, the Director of JUPEB, Prof. Chidi E. Akunne, noted that JUPEB serves as a transitional pathway for students aiming to join the mainstream academic programs at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. He emphasised the opportunities available to students that would help them become full-fledged undergraduates and noted that the program is designed to provide them with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for a successful university education.

In her opening address, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, expressed a nurturing sentiment, stating, "I am a mother to you, and you are all my children." She encouraged the students to make the best use of their time at the university and to focus on their studies to achieve their main objectives for coming to the school. Prof. Arinze-Umobi was represented by Prof. Harry Obi-Nwosu.

Mr Sunday Okpani emphasised the importance of paying fees on time and utilising JUPEB study materials. He provided valuable tips on effective studying and how to access resources available at JUPEB.

Rev. Dr Chukuma Ikegbo encouraged the students to be vigilant and adhere to security protocols to ensure a safe learning environment. He also offered advice on staying healthy and accessing medical services available through the University Health Services.

Mr Stephen C. Izuchukwu introduced the students to comprehensive resources and tools for filling out Direct Entry (DE) and JAMB registrations. He advised the students to take advantage of the information provided by the centre.

PROFESSOR UGOCHUKWU BOND STANLEY ANYAEHIE APPOINTED AS THE SUBSTANTIVE VICE-CHANCELLOR, UNIZIK

Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has been appointed as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

According to the letter signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Barr. Monsuru, Olugbenga Kukoyi and addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie on 16th November, 2025.
The appointment follows a successful interactive session with the joint Council/Senate Selection Board held on Saturday, 15th November 2025, at the Stratton Hotel, Abuja.

The appointment, announced by the Governing Council of the university, is for a single term of five years and with immediate effect.

Professor Anyaehie, a renowned professor of Physiology and Clinical Measurements, was born on 16th November 1971 in Nkwere, Imo State, Nigeria. Prof. Anyaehie rose through the ranks and became a professor in October 2013. He has served in various capacities, including Acting Provost, College of Medicine, Federal University of Technology, Owerri (December, 2023- November 2024), Provost and Visiting Professor (pro-bono), College of Medicine, Imo State University, Owerri (March 2021- February 2022), Deputy Provost, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria (August 2018- July 2022), Director, Directorate of Research and Publications, UNN College of Medicine (October 2013 to August 2018), Manager and later Area Coordinator, National Health Insurance Scheme (December, 2001- June 2003).

Professor Anyaehie has published over 93 academic papers in high-impact journals and other reputable journals. He has served in different leadership positions, including Member, University Governing Council, Imo State University, Owerri, 2021 and Paul University, Awka (3rd Governing Council, 2020 and 4th Governing Council, 2023). He is married with children.

Ms Chalya Shagaya, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Entrepreneurship Development (Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy), announced that the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is committed to developing a $1 trillion economy.

During a two-day conference hosted by the UNIZIK Centre for Capital Market Studies (UCCMS), Shagaya emphasised the crucial role that micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play in driving national growth. The conference, which focused on "Harnessing Capital Market Opportunities for SME Growth and Investment Sustainability," attracted numerous small and medium enterprise operators.

Shagaya stated, “The federal government is wholeheartedly dedicated to creating a trillion-dollar economy through enterprise, productivity, and innovation, not through illusion. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, MSMEs are central to our national development. The President recognises that the success of our small businesses translates to Nigeria's overall prosperity. Our objective is straightforward: to assist entrepreneurs in securing funding, fostering conducive environments, and providing both digital and physical infrastructures to scale their operations.”

She further noted that several policies and measures have been implemented to enhance MSME access to funding. This includes strengthening collaborations between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to facilitate long-term capital raising for SMEs, as well as developing a National Franchising Policy.

“We encourage MSMEs to connect with the NGX to discover a variety of opportunities available to them. Additionally, there are many offerings from the Bank of Industry,” she added. “The capital market serves as a bridge, linking small business owners with investors and providing avenues for long-term funding and growth opportunities. We are also embedding sustainability principles to ensure businesses can grow responsibly. While profit is important, we aim for a greater goal: profit with purpose.”

Moreover, Professor Chinedu Onyeizugbe, Director of the UNIZIK Centre for Capital Market Studies, described the conference as a pivotal gathering of policymakers, academics, regulators, investors, and entrepreneurs. He underscored the importance of the event in the collective effort to revitalise the Nigerian economy through sustainable enterprises and capital market engagement.

He remarked, “Globally, SMEs are foundational to economic growth, generating jobs, fostering innovation, and advancing inclusive prosperity. This conference aims to bridge the gap by examining how the capital market can serve as a catalyst for SME development, innovation, and long-term economic viability. The UNIZIK Centre for Capital Market Studies is ready to lead this initiative in partnership with the SEC, SMEDAN, and other relevant organisations willing to contribute to this cause.”

UNIZIK Centre for Capital Market Studies (UCCMS), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Nigeria partnered to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the capital market for enduring growth during a two-day conference and workshop held on November 13, 2025.

The event, titled "Harnessing Capital Market Opportunities for SME Growth and Investment Sustainability," took place at the ASUU-NAU Secretariat and gathered industry leaders, policymakers, financial professionals, and academics to discuss how to transform Nigeria’s SMEs into a key driver of national development.

In her opening remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, represented by Prof. Harry Obi-Nwosu, referred to the event as an important meeting of theoretical and practical approaches aimed at fostering socio-economic change. She underscored the significant contribution of SMEs to job creation, innovation, and GDP, while pointing out the challenges they often face, particularly with gaining access to funding.

“I’m thrilled about this conference, which focuses on empowering SME owners with knowledge about the numerous opportunities available in the capital market. This empowerment is crucial for developing a dynamic and resilient economy,” she noted.

In his welcome address, Prof. Chinedu Onyeizugbe, Director of the UNIZIK Centre for Capital Market Studies, described the event as a significant step in the university’s commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry.

“This Centre, the first of its kind in Southern Nigeria, aims to enhance education in capital markets, conduct policy research, and promote innovation. Through our partnership with the SEC, SMEDAN, and other collaborators, we are focused on revitalising Nigeria’s economy through knowledge-based entrepreneurship and sustainable financial practices,” he said.

In the keynote address, the SEC’s Director-General, Dr Emomotimi Agama, represented by Ms Frana Chukwuogor, Executive Commissioner (Legal and Enforcement), remarked that the South East region is a significant centre for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Over 80 per cent of Nigeria's workforce is engaged in the SME sector, which plays a vital role in the national economy. Nevertheless, one of the main obstacles is limited access to finance. The capital market presents alternative solutions through options like equity, private funding, and collective investments,” she elaborated. Dr Agama highlighted SEC's efforts to enhance capital flow to SMEs and expressed hope that the workshop would provide participants with critical insights to navigate financial challenges and establish sustainable businesses.

One of the main speakers, Mr Patrick Ilodianya, Managing Director/CEO of SFS Financial Services Limited, discussed “Providing SMEs with Alternative Financing Sources from the Capital Market.” He identified various financial instruments available to small businesses, such as equity listings, SME bonds, securitised receivables, crowdfunding, and venture capital. He also suggested ways to improve SME access to these markets through financial education, cooperative formations, and state-supported guarantee programs.

Our aim is straightforward: to make the capital market accessible to everyone, not solely large corporations,” she stated.

Prof. Ellis Idemobi, the Occasion Chairman and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, praised the Centre for initiating an important dialogue that connects local businesses with global financing mechanisms.

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Promise Oparah, Deputy Director of the Centre, thanked the speakers, guests, and participants for their engagement in knowledge sharing, emphasising that collaboration and innovation are vital for the sustainability of SMEs.

“The future belongs to entrepreneurs willing to learn, adapt, and utilise capital markets for long-term value creation,” he stressed.

The conference wrapped up with a question-and-answer session, where SEC representatives addressed key issues such as unclaimed dividends, common misconceptions about the capital market, and ongoing reforms aimed at simplifying SME involvement.

The second day of the round table discussion featured fourteen discussants. It was facilitated by Mrs Hafsat Rufai from REMI-SEC, Mrs Uroro Obaji from SEC, Prof. Charles Onugu from UNIZIK, and Mr Oluwadare Adejumo, the 2nd Vice-Chairman of the Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria (ASHON).

During the discussions on corporate governance and business continuity, Mr Graham Omenka from the SEC emphasised that direction, control, and accountability are fundamental to governance. He noted that many Nigerian businesses lack effective risk management systems. Mrs Simnom Garba, his colleague, added that sustainability follows only after a business has put the right internal foundations in place. Dr Valentine Ekechukwu raised concerns about the lack of succession planning in the South East, highlighting how this issue has hindered numerous family-run businesses. He encouraged small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to foster transparency and rebuild trust as crucial strategic resources.

Mr Stanley Aniagboso of the FRC delivered a presentation praising the resilience of Nigerian SMEs in a challenging economy while identifying recurring deficiencies such as inadequate record-keeping, weak internal structures, and fragile governance. He stated that formalisation is essential for positioning SMEs as credible players in the capital market.

Prof. Chris Kalu further analysed Nigeria’s business landscape, pointing out infrastructural deficits, inflation, exchange-rate volatility, and macroeconomic instability as major disruptors to the operating environment. He noted that inconsistent policies and ongoing security challenges make entrepreneurship and capital market expansion particularly difficult. His co-discussants, Prof. Collins Nwogwugwu and Prof. Promise Oparah, echoed these concerns, with Nwogwugwu urging capital market institutions to alleviate these constraints and Oparah asserting that bank loans cannot solely sustain SMEs. He advised SMEs to remain attuned to legal, political, demographic, economic, and technological signals or risk failure due to ignorance.

As the conversation shifted to SME registration and listing requirements, moderated by Mr Oluwadare Adejumo, Mr Chidiebere Eziaghala encouraged entrepreneurs to overcome their fear of the SEC, clarifying that the Commission’s primary role is supportive rather than punitive. Other participants, including Mrs Theresa Amadi and Mr Eguarekhide Longe, emphasised that establishing structure should be viewed as a competitive advantage rather than a regulatory barrier.

During a session on financing SME growth, Mr Chukwuemeka Ezike, the Vice-President of SIBAN and representative of President Obinna Iwuno, discussed new opportunities within both traditional and digital capital market instruments. He explained that many SMEs face scalability challenges due to weak internal systems and limited understanding, yet the capital market provides pathways for long-term capital growth, enhanced governance, improved valuation, and stronger business ecosystems. Supporting this sentiment, Mr Chimene Chinah, CEO of Dantown Technologies, observed that while technology is an enabler, it requires a structural foundation to succeed; otherwise, even the most innovative solutions can falter.

The final panel of the day addressed the implications of the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2025. Mr Onyedikachi Edeh from SEC noted that the Act has broadened the market and enhanced the SEC’s enforcement capabilities, leading to increased transparency and operational efficiency. He advised SMEs to structure their operations in ways that ensure their longevity beyond the founders. Mr Daniel Bell-Gam from the NGX elaborated on the new market structures and alternative platforms designed to facilitate SME access to the capital market, noting that proximity to the SEC can boost investor confidence. Additionally, Mr David Fayuyitan, Vice-President of FSL Capital, highlighted the cost benefits of SEC-regulated commercial papers, questioning why SMEs continue to seek bank loans at 30 per cent interest when more affordable options exist. He emphasised that external investors are more likely to commit funds to companies that maintain proper records and exhibit longevity through sound governance practices.

In conclusion, Prof. Chinedu Onyeizugbe, the Director of the Centre for Capital Market Studies, expressed appreciation to the facilitators, panellists, and attendees, describing the workshop as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, policy guidance, and market-oriented learning. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to fostering research and dialogue that enhance Nigeria’s financial market system.

Simultaneously, an interactive session with students took place at the university's auditorium on the theme "Breaking the Ponzi Scheme Trap through Smart Money Movies: Digital Finance & Capital Opportunities (SEC/FLTC)." The speakers, Mrs S.K. Abdulsalam, Mrs Temitope Onwionoko, and Mrs Ogwuche, explained the concept of Ponzi schemes.

She has also implemented free high-speed internet services throughout the university hostels, ensuring that all students have the resources they need for effective learning and research. Additionally, she has installed solar-powered charging points in the hostels, which have become essential for students to charge their devices.

The enhancement of hostel facilities has been a key focus of her administration. Additionally, she increased the stipend for National Youth Service Corps members by 200% and the stipend for students working on campus by 100%.

Energy-efficient solar-powered lights have been installed across the university grounds to enhance safety and visibility at night. The deployment of CCTV cameras on the Awka campus has strengthened security measures, providing a safer environment for students and staff alike. Moreover, the university's medical centre has undergone significant upgrades, including essential antenatal services and the acquisition of advanced digital dialysis machines to better serve the healthcare needs of the university community.

To facilitate mobility, Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi has refurbished previously abandoned buses, transforming them into reliable free transport services for staff. This initiative addresses transportation challenges and promotes accessibility to educational, financial resources, and community engagement.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, has commissioned several life-touching projects across the university's campuses, demonstrating her commitment to improving student and staff welfare.

On Monday, November 10, 2025, Prof. Arinze-Umobi commissioned a renovated female hostel at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Agulu, which has been equipped with modern facilities. She also donated over 200 gallons of disinfectant to the students.

At the Mbakwu premise, she commissioned a solar system, a functional toilet system, a kitchen, and clean water facilities for students.

At the Awka Campus, the AVC unveiled the Unizik Microfinance Bank (UMB), commissioned free transport services for staff, an iron waste bin, and CCTV cameras with monitoring stations.

In a significant move, Prof. Arinze-Umobi commissioned two dialysis machines and digital X-ray machines. While feeling the pulse of students and staff, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Arinze-Umobi, announced that students would receive free dialysis treatment,. In contrast, staff would be charged ₦10,000 and outsiders ₦12,500 in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR's directive to Federal Health Centres as against the sixty thousand Naira dialysis charge.

Goodwill messages were received from Prof. Sunday Nduka, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; Prof. Okolie, Director of Predegree; Chief Ken Chukwurah, Chief Safety Officer; and the Director of Medical Services, among others.

They commended the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Arinze-Umobi, for her motherly approach and administrative skills during her tenure, praying for God's continued blessings.

Professor Arinze-Umobi reflected on the former Vice-Chancellors' administrative roles in shaping the institution, recognising their relentless hard work, determination, and decisions in making Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the university of all times inspiring future generations. Highlighting the periods of service of Prof. Festus A. Nwako (1991-1998), Prof. Pita Ejiofor (1998-2002), Prof. Ilochi A. Okafor, SAN (2003-2008), Prof. Boniface C.E.
