PoliticsRe: As Fashola Declares Austerity Measures In Lagos by dplordx(m): 11:36pm On Jul 31, 2011
Sun of god:
“From all computations, the Lagos government will need between N5.5 billion and N7 billion to pay its over 50, 000 workers and political appointees against a monthly revenue profile of between N18 billion and N20 billion. Salaries will gulp about 40 per cent of the state’s expenditure.”
Oh please BRF! You are paying just about 7,000 workers the newly adopted minimum wage. Lagos is the first state to commit a fraud that limits the minimum wage to some levels of works while some are denied. The only beneficiaries are the top-echelons and not the mid and low workers. Shame on LAG! angry
PoliticsRe: Ogun Repairs Parts Of Lagos-ibadan Expressway by dplordx(m): 3:21pm On Jul 31, 2011
Eko Ile:
This is very misguided and disheartening.

These bad roads remains the sole responsibility of the federal government to fix, not the states, but if any state have extra funds to spend on other people's responsibilities, that's their problem. Many of these states don't even have money to fix their own roads.

The people of the region also have elected federal reps, senators and ministers in Abuja whose job it is to fight and get federal attention in regards to federal projects in their respective regions. I don't even see these folks pressuring the feds for anything.

What is going on here is very shameful and counterproductive, the whole system is upside down. These state are basically doing other people's jobs with funds that really should be funding state projects like water, roads, clinics and other critical needs.
Eko Ile, I want to disagree with your point of view here: given the anti-masses view of the FG, and its gross insensitivity to the suffering of the populace, I think any good governor would rather fix any crucial road that affects the lives of thousands of its residence. I dont think BRF negligence of some federal roads cuts given how much he has poured on useless and white-elephant projects such as the LFTZ. Amosu's approach is highly commendable and we hope BRF takes cue from a real selfless leader like this.

The first 6 posters are complete dummies. Benefactors of a corrupt and useless system thats killing Nigerians in thousands yearly.
In my opposite street, 18 families chartered a bus to attend their last born wedding and headed to Ibadan yesterday.
Just 2 of the families are alive right now, and the 2 arent even getting the best treatment.
About 156 Billion Naira has been paid to the contractor who up to date hasnt done anything along that road. And these people are one of the biggest sponsor of GEJ during the election.
The flood that claimed lives in Lagos hasnt gotten a single iota of meaningful action from GEJ besides his useless and annoying face book blah blahs!
This was a state that single handed pushed him ahead in the past poll. And remember how constant he was in Lagos during the election? This tells you that GEJ is nothing but a complete serially ineffective situational leader.
I keep blaming Pastor Bakare: he should just ignore this useless country called Nigeria since its people arent better than animals and prefer to continue to live that way.
He should just condone all this excreta and become another Adeboye who blesses and sanctify corruption.
Once more: to the first 6 posters: Shame im arguing with such crass beings. Your quality of logic and your so called standards of life isnt above that of a pig living in its own sh***t! cool

Car TalkRe: Ever Had Your Vehicle Stolen, Or Broken Into? by dplordx(m): 8:41am On Jul 15, 2011
6:30pm, cant remember the date or time. But not more than 3 months ago.

I just got a very neat american used nissan maxima from nairaland some months back and was on my way to mowe where an engineer i met on nland built 2 properties for me to check out the finishing.
anyways, i took the sango-papa-shagamu road; and instead of lagos ibadan express way.
of course, the road is loaded with customs and police checking cars all around, but it seems as if that doesnt guarantee much nowadays.
anyways, i accidentally busted my drive side tire because i was over-speeding and ramped into a hole. while changing the tires. then 2 guys on a bike approached. I wasnt sure what they wanted because I was in suit, too fresh to dirty my hand with the jack and tire xchange. I thought they wanted to assist me. And of course, I was going to the site with close to a mil in the boot.
to my biggest suprise, they came down, started staring at me, and i was about to tell them my tire got f'd up if they could help, and that I was gon give them 500 naira, when the other guy, an elderly man, about 50 plus: i would have sworn, he looks like someone who would never steal pulled out a tiny gun. i was there, the site of the gun pointing at me terrifying me; quaking not sure what the hell to do.
they noticed the engine is killed. that i just undid some nuts. and my drive side tire is finished, they cant drive the car away like that.
those useless mumu's just kept staring at me, not sure what to do; the old agbaya shoved me roughly aside, checked my pocket, pulled out my andriod phone, the little cash in it, and removed my keys, and tossed it far into the bush; and they climbed the bike and sped off.

the most annoying thing is that, the road is a very busy road. trucks, commutters are always zooming up and down and nobody came to my rescue.

i spent not less than an hour searching the bush. found the key, removed the suit and quickly fixed the tire. since then, i've always avoided the shagamu road again in the evening. and yes, no matter where i might be having fun; once it is 6:30pm, im headed back to my crib. no more nightclubs, unless im taking my power bike.

PS: can everyone please put the exact time this happened. another incident i witnessed at meiran, lagos, was around 8pm at night.

PoliticsRe: Fashola And Lagos Roads by dplordx(m): 2:59pm On Jul 12, 2011
Lagosboy:
@all

Thanks for yoy inputs but this thread is not about flooding as there are other threads to discuss that. The thread is about Lagos roads which are not motorable and these roads spans almost all the local govts . The worst roads are the inner city roads and Lagosians could attest to this. How good is the road on your street ?

I travelled to Abuja and was super impressed with Abuja roads and the city in general . I am aware it is the federal money but Lagos generates lots of money and could we understand what the LG money is used for aside payment of salaries and the primary health centres (clinics) who dont dispense drugs.

Surulere which is Fasholas consitutuency has roads which would embarass any governor. Some of these roads are now under renovation but i cannot imagine how any governor would watch these roads degenerate. Surulere has a rep who is athe minority leader in the NASS Hakeem Gbajabiamillia and other big boys in Lagos politics yet they all drive on these roads.

I just cannot get where the problem lies.
Abuja cant be compared to Lagos. With its tiny population; the roads would outlast the best one built in Lag. But I think something isnt right somewhere.
I dont know why Lagos still praise mediocrity. The states of the roads is enough to make restrain from casting my vote for BRF because I wasnt sure what this guy is doing besides applying lipsticks and make up to a pig's face.

aasog1:
I agree with you heartily. Given the vastness of Lagos, its illogical to rip fashola to pieces over the states of the road. But why do I have a feeling that fashola and his acn guys in the reps arent using up to 30% for what would actually benefit lagosians at large.
We cant call BRF a propagandist because we know govs who have all the national newspapers editors on their payroll and speed-dial. He is not one of them. His works speaks for him.
As much as I would love to attack BRF and blame him for this enormous disaster, I realize my arguments would rather be emotional rather than logical.
BRF is a man who seem to underestimate the vast challenge called "Lagos".
Lagos is the perfect microcosm of Nigeria at large, and BRF's work is a lot more difficult based on the fact that he rules about 10% of the nation; and if he could survive at this level, he could rule the giant of Africa called Nigeria.
With the countless challenges facing Lagos day to day: fixing this problematic state would take more than 10 BRF administrations. But Fashola can do more if we stop making him feel like he's done it all. He definitely is imperfect and I wonder why he is not learning from some glaring mistakes and keep repeating it. One thing for sure: He's got a very long way to go and should focus more on the most pressing projects of the state. I think he will do fine based on his sincerity.

Opinions needed, Is BRF really worth all this loud noise?
PoliticsRe: Lagos Earmarks N102 Bn To Build Lekki Int’l Airport by dplordx(op): 6:40am On Jul 11, 2011
Based on the above post. I think BRF should be sued by every Lagosian who suffered immensely or lost properties from yesterday flood.
Why would this governor be so high-handed such to an extent he would keep earmarking hundreds of billions of naira to projects that has nothing to offer to 95% of its populace while ignoring the BASIC things that would affect lives and properties positively.
We have the useless Lekki Free Trade Zone white elephant project, and the Eko Atlantic, projects which totally shows how totally insincere this guy is to developing Lagos.
Is it the roads? Security? Drainages? Even Lastma is no more effective. Or BRF another Gbenga Daniel-mirror. Remember OGD performed wonders in his 1st term, and became totally useless in his last 4 years.
Last night, it was nightmare at Ilaje, Bariga side. Around 12pm, I could hear kids crying, women screaming, and the hoodlums had a field day stealing and looting.
Im getting fed with people over-hyping this guy. He needs to fix the BASIC things. Is that too much to ask your g***darn Gov!?

A friend of mine was attacked along the ikeja railway around 9:30pm last week.
He lost his handset, and while trying to protect his back pocket got beaten so bad his face was all pulped up.
It was such a broad-day light robbery and people were watching as three touts tore him apart.
This week at Alakuko, the same area where a DPO was shot dead about a month ago, daredevil thieves raided three streets, taking each house at a time.
I dont know why Hafiz Ringin or whatever his sh***tty name is had to take away Akpoyibo, the commissioner who understood Lagos fine and who mitigated this robbery.
And BRF should please fix this. He did it once, or will he let his legacy erode away because of his fresh victory?

BusinessRe: Why Are We Not Making Money Like Dangote? by dplordx(m): 9:19am On Jun 01, 2011
Was a graduate at the age of 23. Worked at a reputable bank and top profile construction company, and resigned to start my own business after coming into some capital and went into farming. Mind you, besides been a farmer, working on a 2nd degree, and I add a professional certs yearly. Last year, NIPR, and currently at NIMN.
I started my farm with 2000 birds, 500 fingerlings and after a year of been starved of capital: need a pen besides existing land, and battery cages cost a fortune as well as van etc
The products (eggs, chickens, fish, pork) has a shocking demand, and theres limitless market in this country for agricultural products, eggs, chickens, turkeys, snails, fish, etc
Seriously, its been like hell when you cant even approach a bank for loans. Their beauricratic carousel alone is enough to kill your spirit but well man's gotta fight.
Right now, I am operating with marginal profits, I cant expand because where on earth will the capital come from when UBA, and FCMB told me that the 50billion naira agricultural loan is for the types of Dangotes alone. They told me I must have an asset worth 300 million naira before they can give me a loan. Isnt that an insult! And you wonder who gave them this loan in the first place; if it wasnt our own lazy FG and I sometimes wonder if Lamido is actually aware of what youths are going through in this country. And talk about the bank of industry, those guys would rather pass loans to their housekeepers rather than people with vision and dreams. Ive become a professional loan seeker, and right now, its a job im thinking wont yeild anything in this country as long as your into agriculture or anything long term. Banks dont like risky business. They give loans to businesses they understand, and this is why Nigeria is still stuck in the past. Old toilet. New toilet. Same sh*t
Anyways, I am still stuck between deciding on leaving the business because of its high capital depedency. For a long time now, I keep making money and seeing it disappear on expenses, and keeping my workers and customers satisfied, and this is getting a little old for me now.
There are several Nigerians who will make Dangote look like he needs to go back to school to relearn business if given the right capital. Its just a shame that wont happen.
