https://www.nairaland.com/2271485/canada-spouse-open-work-permit/146nairagrounds: I sent my passport to Lagos VAC, and I could track from the courier's end that they've delivered the package. How soon will I hear from VAC?
They recently approved my application for a study permit. How may I apply for Spousal Open work permits and a visiting visa for my spouse and child, respectively? Is there a thread you could point me to, what things could increase the chances of approval for them, and every other information to achieve success?
Any helpful information will be very much appreciated.
Thanks. |

Thank you, Ikechi12. All the best in your reapplication as well. We shall testify. Ikechi12: Dear DrAFOguns, I have read your story and I am in the same situation with you. I also have a fully funded PhD offer in Canada. In fact, the funding is more than enough. I also had an additional 15k personal bank statement. But my visa was rejected. I applied while I was in the UK for my master's degree, but due to the typical IRCC delay, they reviewed my application 3 months later when I had left the UK (so my residency status in UK had expired). Your issue, like mine, is majorly due to you residency. If you will reapply in China, make sure that you renew your Chinese residency first! If your time left in a country is limited, they usually see it as a red flag.
My re-application process led me here and I have heard from people that had a similar situation and got their visa upon reapplying. So I believe that if you tackle the concerns raised, you would most likely be given. Just make sure you leave no stone unturned this time around. Finance is one of the major reasons for rejection, and with your full scholarship, what you have left to prove is your motivation, home ties and the fact that you will leave Canada after your program.
I wish you the best in your application. |

If you have questions, I think you can PM me to share personal experiences applying as PhD going to Concordia with funding.
It shall end in praises. |

Osemigho, thank you so much. Osemigho: Room and board is your living expenses and should be about 10,000 if not more.
Your explanation for other should be "Concordia University Scholarship".
Finally, I think the main issue is your stay in China. How did you explain or prove it? If you add student visa, have completed your masters, but didn't mention your ongoing PhD. What did you say you are doing in China? If you don't want to explain this, then you might need to apply in Nigeria.
I'm not a guru. I'm just sharing my one cent. |

Thank you Omiinii. I am tying up loose ends while waiting for my school to issue a new admission letter. Reapplication is certain. Omiinii: Dr afo, unfortunately the visa processing is not always logical. Fact is if you look at every single application long enough you'll find a reason to disqualify the person. That's just how it is. I'll implore you to try again and address every issues EXPLICITLY. We know it's baseless but we don't have a choice. I'm sure you'll secure a visa on your second trial. |

I provided my personal bank statement and the details of my scholarships are on the admission letter. However, my supervisor has agreed to provide a letter of support to state that the mentioned funds will be made available throughout my study. Guess I will have to come to Nigeria to reapply. I will work on my SOP/LOE bearing in mind the points you have raised. Thank you for your help. makano: Hello DrAFOguns
You failed to provide enough convincing documents to back up your financial claims in your application. what documents did you submit as regards finances in your last application?
The Visa Officer feels the course you are going to study in Canada is actually available in your home country, so why are you planning on spending a lot in Canada on a course that is actually readily available in your home country. (Your SOP failed you here, cos you were not able to convince the Visa officer why you wanna study that course in Canada). Work on that section in your SOP.
Your purpose of visit does not appear reasonable simply shows you failed to convince the Visa Officer that you are a genuine student that is going to Canada to study and not to Japa.. Your SOP failed you here again, you didn't convince the Visa Officer of the importance of you going to Canada to study.. The applicant's immigration status, with this I wanna assume you applied outside of Nigeria, so they had issues with the fact that the country you applied from isn't your country, which means you do not have ties in the country you applied from. If you know you have ties in the country you are, then you will need to work on this in your LOE. if not, I will advise you go back to your country to re-apply.
Now the solution to this is simply your SOP and LOE, I wanna assume your SOP was watery, you generally failed to convince the Visa Officer with your SOP. A strong and convincing SOP will do the Magic in your next application..
Also for your finances, make sure you provide reasonable and convincing documents in your next application and also state these documents accordingly in your application, also if you used a 3rd party sponsor in your last application, and you are planning to use a 3rd party sponsor again, your sponsor has a lot of work to do on a commitment to your studies..
But I will personally advise you do away with a 3rd party sponsor if you have know the said sponsor wont be able to show total commitment in your next application.
Settle down and work on your SOP and LOE, if these (both) documents are strongly convincing, coupled with the right documents for your finances, your Visa is visible in your next application...
Peace |

Just finished masters in Chemical Engineering this July Currently on a PhD here in Chemical Engineering as well (didn't mention this in my SOP). Previous years of experience are not related to course of study Going for 'another' PhD in Chemical Engineering I have scholarship from my supervisors, this will be more than enough for other expenses asides tuition which the university already waived. I have not made any tution deposit (the university gave me full tuition waiver) Self sponsored I included personal bank statement of about 3.6m I am not resident in Nigeria but I provided resident permit as well police clearance certificate from where I am resident How do I tackle all these issues? Thank you. Anon123: What did you study What do you do/work experience and how many years experience what were you going for What level of program were you going for
The VO has issues/doubts with your financial power
Have you paid your fees or deposit who is your sponsor is he or she related to you Did you include your own bank statement
Travel history is not a denial reason as perseon with a virgin passport also get approved BUT
Are you in resident in Nigeria? if no, did you sure evidence of resident permit in the country you are in? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 20 by DrAFOguns: 12:56am On Nov 10, 2021 |
Thank you Omiinii. I provided documents to support all claims, Guess the VO missed it in the bulk of documents. Omiinii: DR AFO. The VO has issues with the documentation provided to show funds. He/she believes that either you do not have enough to cater for yourself and cover the total academic calendar of your program or that the program doesn't warrant such cost as you can source and get enrolled for it in your home country.
The VO also has issues with your country of residency as He/she believes that you aren't showing enough ties simply by living outside your home country.
The VO also has doubts about your purpose of study. This may be as a result of your socio-economic standing due to your income, education or employment status. |

Thank you for this, Osemigho. I am not sure of what he filled as source of funding on his form I have few questions please... In his previous application, he didn't mention that he has started a phd in China as we felt the VO might have reservations. Are you suggesting that he mentions that in his reapplication? If he is able to get a support letter from his current supervisor in China on why the PhD in Canada is a better fit for his career goals, will that also help? Thanks once again. Osemigho: Hi, what did write as his source of funding in the IRCC form? As a single applicant with full scholarship from Canada, your best choice is "University of .... scholarship".
About the PhD in China, it is no problem if you explain why you need to abandon it. A good reason might be that Nigeria education is westernized and English focused rather than Chinese. If you want to practice in Nigeria, a PhD in Canada, US, and UK will be more recognized than Chinese PhD. Then explain why Canada from other options. You got a full scholarship, a professor interested and with experience in your research, and other reasons are good. You will definitely need to build on/explain these points if you want to use it.
All the best. |

Thanks a lot for your help. I will keep the house posted when the notes arrive. Anon123: I think the bolded resulted to the finance and purpose of visit.
Your explanation on finance is okay as well as the purpose of visit though these visa officers can claim the SOP was vague but the bolded might need be an issue. Did you mention the bolded to the visa officer?
If yes, the visa officer ticked purpose of visit cos he was wondering why you are coning to canada for the same Phd program that you are currently on in China.
The visa officer ticked, finance probably because he was doubting the finance considering you are a student in China.
NB- these are just my assumptions therefore your GCMS note will definitely explain better. |

On finance, the program is a fully funded PhD covering tuition and allowances including research assistantship. We added his personal bank statements as well. The only lump deposit that came from his sister was backed with gift deed and letter of support. We as well showed proof of relationship Purpose of visit... We explained that as well. He just finished his masters this July and going immediately for a PhD in the same course. Immigration status He is legally in China as he has continued with a PhD program in his school. Visa has been renewed and we attached passport pages and police clearance certificate. We dont know what else IRCC wants. Anon123: For finance,
Who was the sponsor Did you pay any amount towards his studies Were there lump sums that werent explained with evidence if necessary?
For the purpose of visit- it came from your sop. Did your sop cover the reasons behind your decision to study the intended course, the decision to further your education now, show your academic/career progressions.
For immigration status, I can't tell what it means but probably has to do with the location of the applicant (my guess). |

Good evening House. My husband got his bank statement on the 9th of this month. However, translation won't be out until later this week after which we will submit his application.
My question is that hope this won't raise eyebrows, considering the fact that the SOA will be two weeks old before submission? |

Good morning house.
I want to transfer funds from my salary account to my savings account as the salary account is not so active and so that all the funds can be in one account.
Do I need to provide MBS for the salary account or just make reference to the transaction on my savings account MBS?
N.B I am not the PA but a dependent for a family application.
Thanks. |

From what I have gathered here, you do not need to send in your passport or your children's until you get a request from IRCC which won't be until your application is approved. diva4eva: Hello house, pls I need your advise. I want to apply for study permit and I want to travel with my 3 children while my hubby will be here in Nigeria. Do I send my children's passport along with mine when applying for my study permit. Would having two active student visas from two countries raise eyebrows when applying for study permit?
One is for another masters degree program while the other is for a PhD.
The Canada study permit application is for a PhD. |
