Health / Re: Government owned Kidney transplant centres in Nigeria including cost by Drake2021: 1:44pm On Aug 25, 2019
Jaymaxxy:
There is no need travelling to India, Dubai, the UK and the USA for kidney transplant anymore as there are now government owned kidney transplant centres spread across Nigeria with competent manpower and up-to-date facilities. Morever, why travel abroad when you can get a renal transplant done here at a cheaper rate with good outcome plus support from family and friends?

Below are are list of government own kidney transplant centres in Nigeria:

1. LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL (LASUTH)
Had performed a total of 5 kidney transplant so far. Had a second successful transplant on a 41-year-old policeman in 2016. The donor was his 42 year old brother. Both the recipient and the donor survived the surgery.

Cost: Announcing the surgery to newsmen, chief Medical Director of the hospital said the kidney transplant cost 4.5 million Naira.

2. Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia
Reputed to have performed the first kidney transplant in South-Eastern Nigeria. The first patient to receive a new kidney was a 37-year-old businessman, Mr. Oji Ogbonanya Ule, who had been battling with kidney problem for four years. His new kidney was donated by his 58-year-old uncle who is a civil servant.

Cost: They reportedly paid #5.5 million Naira for this procedure.

3. Lagos University Teaching Hospital
In 2011, a thirty eight-year-old woman was the recipient of the first successful kidney transplantation surgery at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. Since then, they have carried out series of successful renal transplant.

Cost of renal transplant in LUTH is #8 million Naira.

4. University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital
Nigeria’s first kidney transplant was conducted on 31-year-old Suleiman Usman in Sept. 2010 by the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), in collaboration with the Bayero University Teaching Hospital, Kano and the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The kidney was donated by his brother, Abubakar Usman at the university Kidney Centre.

Cost: #5 million.

5. Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital

Has performed the highest number of kidney transplants in Nigeria. The OAUTH, Ile-Ife, was the first teaching hospital in Nigeria to carry out an indigenous kidney transplant in June, 2002. According to the Chief Medical Director, the hospital has performed a total of 15 kidney transplants and over 70 open heart surgeries with no complications. They recently acquired modern facilities to enhance patient care.

Cost: With 6.5 million Naira, you can have a successful renal transplant in OAUTH.

6. Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital
The most successful of the government owned kidney transplant centres in Nigeria with 19 recorded successful transplants.

Cost of renal transplant Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital is 5.5 million including drugs.

7. Delta University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH)
It was reported on Premium Times that DELSUTH performed their first successful kidney transplant in 2014. However, they have not been consistent with the renal transplant programme as there have been an interlude of 5 years now. Anyway, dialysis in this centre is highly subsidized by the state government for indigenes.

DELSUTH conducted their first renal transplant for #6 million Naira.

8. University College Hospital, Ibadan
University College Hospital is one of the oldest kidney transplant centres in Nigeria. Had their first successful renal transplant in 2008 and have been consistent ever since averaging about 5 transplants every year.

Cost of renal transplant in UCH is #7.5 million Naira plus drugs.

9. University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu
Located in Nssuka, Enugu. The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) performed their first successful kidney transplant in 2018 and has been consistent ever since.

The cost of renal transplant in UNTH is #3.5 million Naira including 6 months immunosuppressive drugs.

10. Uthman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto
Had plans underway to perform their first renal transplant in 2016 but has not really kicked started. The plans are still underway.

We need more kidney transplant centres in Nigeria to cater for the health of teeming Nigerians with kidney diseases.

Believe this story u will believe anything. Much as I greatly wish it's true, am saying it from hindsight that it's a lie. Let the writer come up statistic and figure of success, and not mere wishful thinking. Buying and building the infrastructure is one having the manpower to carry out the operation is another

If out of 80 names one is a so called Yoruba, and from findings it's discovered that his mother is an Ibo while he was raised up by his maternal uncle because his birth was out of wedlock, how is he a Yoruba man. He is a bastard. With blood and value of a typical ibo running in him. If that so called Yoruba "among them" did not act the way he did then something must be very wrong.

Politics / Re: Nigeria Is Difficult To Manage - Ibrahim Babangida, Former Head Of State by Drake2021: 8:24pm On Aug 07, 2019
Ogagist1:
General Ibrahim Babangida, a former military head of state has described Nigeria as complex and a difficult entity to manage.

Babangida spoke from his residence in Minna when the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, minority caucus of the House of Representatives, led by Ndudi Elumelu, paid him a visit.

Consequently, he called on the legislators to perform their responsibilities honourably and diligently to make the country one entity. Babangida, who said he had been following recent developments in the country, noted:

I am passionate in observing what is going on in the country; I have developed lots of interest in the ongoing across the country and I think the leadership of the House of Representatives, the speaker, the opposition leadership and everyone are all doing well.

You represent the people and it is what the people wish that you take up. I want to commend you for doing your job honourably and I urge you not to give up. The country is complex and difficult because in Nigeria, there are as many opinions as there are the number of people in the country. Nigeria is a very vibrant society and what is important is the determination to carry on and you have to remain very resilient in everything you do for the benefit of the country.”

Babangida assured the lawmakers of his support where necessary, saying: “We are all together for the progress of the country and now that you have succeeded in your elections, it is now time for you to settle down to do a lot of good work for your constituency and for the country.’’

Members on the entourage of the minority leader include the Minority Whip, Gibbion Gwari and Deputy Minority Whip, Adekoya Adesegun. Others are Efe Afe, Kpam Jimin Sokpo, Robert Tyough, Soyinka Anjola, Femi Bamishele, Benjamin Mzondu and Samuel Onuigbo.

Nigeria is not a difficult country, but the leaders are the complex and difficult people.
Whn Nigeria leaders stop stealing, more discipline Nigeria will be as simple as other countries to manage

fergie001:
The seven-man committee inaugurated by the Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, to investigate the status of the newly established tertiary institutions by the immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, has recommended among other things, the sacking of all the vice chancellors, reactors and principal officers of the institutions.

The Chairman of the committee, Prof. Jude Njoku, who briefed newsmen in Owerri along other committee members, said the properties of the institutions which were in the hands of the dons should be recovered by the state government.

Njoku, who is a former VC of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Said, “The appointment of all the vice chancellors, rectors, principal officers and members of governing councils of the newly established tertiary should be terminated by government appropriately and all the property belonging to those institutions recovered.

“The governing councils of the Imo State College of Education, Ihitte Uboma and Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, should be formally dissolved and reconstituted.”

https://punchng.com/panel-recommends-sacking-of-vcs-appointed-by-okorocha/

I am not a fan of Rochas, I don't really like quite good numbers of his policies. However, the committee failed to say one concrete reason why those principal officers must be sack. Government is a continuous and dynamic, if the methods of their appointment is wrong and doesn't follow due process, if the principal officers are not qualify. If they are found wanting in their duties by this IHEDIOHA COMMITTEE, Those are very different reasons, but to sack them just because they were appointed by Rochas is not only very wrong it very distasteful.

Rivers police launch search for boyfriend who strangled his girlfriend inside Port Harcourt hotel

The police in Rivers state are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a lady, Precious Maureen Ewuru, who was found dead in a hotel room in D/Line Port Harcourt, Rivers state on Thursday August 1st.

Preliminary investigation by the police shows that Precious came into the hotel on Wednesday night July 31st and made a reservation. Later, she was joined by a man believed to be her boyfriend. Trouble allegedly started when the victim got involved in a heated argument with another bank customer and refused to to leave the banking hall after being told to.

He, instead, insisted on closing his account with the bank and withdrawing all his money before leaving. However, his stance didn’t go down well with the security men, who descended on him heavily and even hit him with a gun.

I don't want to take this story line, hook and sinker. The blogger has not been very truthful. It's not possible that a customer will just into a banking hall inform them that he/she wants to close his/her account, and security men on duty will just descend on that person. Not possible, never. It goes much more than we are being told.
