Celebrities / Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Jonathan Sworn In As PERM SEC In Bayelsa State by dramaticspeak(m): 7:50am On Jul 21, 2012 |
Governor Seriake d*1*c;kson went ahead today to swear in wife of Nigeria’s president, Dame Patience Jonathan as one of the new permanent secretaries in the president’s state of Bayelsa, ignoring an array of public condemnations. At the ceremony, d*1*c;kson insisted that he had “done nothing wrong and illegal” and that Mrs. Jonathan merited the post. Unlike the other permanent secretaries, d*1*c;kson did not announce a portfolio for her, saying it would be done at a later date. Many Nigerians, including opposition politicians have condemned the appointment in strong terms. Dame Patience Jonathan's Response To Her New PERM SEC Office: In her response after the swearing-in, Dame Patience Jonathan justified her acceptance of the promotion to the office of a Permanent Secretary in the civil service of the Bayelsa State government saying that outside her role as the wife of the President she deserves and reserves the right to pursue her career to its heights. She said that she wasn’t the first person in such position in the world or the country to pursue a career outside her role as a wife of a political office holder. She said that she was last promoted 13 years ago even though she had been working in the state as a teacher before transferring her service to the ministry of education. She disclosed that she had been working as a teacher before she met her husband who was her lecturer in school. She wondered what the uproar about her appointment was all about when her role as the First lady of the federation was not even constitutional and the fact has been drummed to her hearing by several people. |

They’ve been married for 86 years. Together, they endured the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam, they have seen the impact of the Civil Rights Movement, watched man land on the moon, the dropping of the atomic bomb, lived through the terms of 15 presidents and still live to tell about it. Married on May 13, 1924, 105-year old Herbert, and 103-year-old Zelmyra do not pretend to know any secrets to a lasting marriage. Zelmyra and Herbert Fisher of North Carolina who currently hold the Guinness World record for the longest living marriage have teamed up to give secrets to lasting relationship secrets. 1. What made you realize that you could spend the rest of your lives together? Were you scared at all? H & Z: With each day that passed, our relationship was more solid and secure.Divorce was NEVER an option – or even a thought. 2. How did you know your spouse was the right one for you? We grew up together & were best friends before we married. A friend is for life – our marriage has lasted a lifetime 3. Is there anything you would do differently after more than 80 years of marriage? We wouldn’t change a thing. There’s no secret to our marriage, we just did what was needed for each other & our family. 4. What is your advice to someone who is trying to keep the faith that Mr. Right is really out there? Zelmyra: Mine was just around the corner! He is never too far away, so keep the faith – when you meet him, you’ll know. 5. What was the best piece of marriage advice you ever received? Respect, support & communicate with each other. Be faithful, honest & true.Love each other with ALL of your heart 6. What are the most important attributes of a good spouse? Zelmyra: A hard worker & good provider. The 1920s were hard, but Herbert wanted & provided the best for us.I married a good man! 7. What is your best Valentine’s Day memory? Zelmyra: I cook dinner EVERY day.Herbert left work early & surprised me – he cooked dinner for me! He is a VERY good cook! Herbert: I said that I was going to cook dinner for her & she could relax – the look on her face & clean plate made my day! 8. You got married very young – how did u both manage to grow as individuals yet not grow apart as a couple? “Everyone who plants a seed & harvests the crop celebrates together” We are individuals, but accomplish more together. 9. What is your fondest memory of your 85-year marriage? Our legacy: 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. 10. Does communicating get easier with time? How do you keep your patience? The children are grown, so we talk more now. We can enjoy our time on the porch or our rocking chairs – together. 11. How did you cope when you had to be physically separated for long periods of time? Herbert: We were apart for 2 months when Z was hospitalized with our 5th child. It was the most difficult time of my life. Zelmyra’s mother helped me with the house and the other children, otherwise I would have lost my mind. 12. At the end of bad relationship day, what is the most important thing to remind yourselves? Remember marriage is not a contest – never keep a score. God has put the two of you together on the same team to win 13. Is fighting important? NEVER physically! Agree that it’s okay to disagree, & fight for what really matters. Learn to bend – not break! 14. What’s the one thing you have in common that transcends everything else? We are both Christians & believe in God.Marriage is a commitment to the Lord.We pray with & for eachother every day. This year marks their 85 years of marriage |

Religion / PHOTO: Israeli Lawmaker Tears Up Copy Of New Testament…throws It In Trash by dramaticspeak(m): 5:27pm On Jul 18, 2012 |
A Zionist lawmaker tore up a copy of the New Testament to protest against the dissemination of the “despicable book”, which was sent to members of parliament by a Christian organisation. The MP Michael Ben Ari of the ultra-nationalist National Union opposition party was one of the Knesset members who received by mail on Monday [July 16] a copy of the “Book of Testaments”. It contains the Jewish Bible, known to Christians as the Old Testament, and the New Testament, the Gospels and epistles of the Christian faith written after the time of Jesus. A letter sent with the book from the “Bible Society in Israel” director Victor Kalisher said the new edition “sheds light on the Holy Scriptures and helps understand them. In addition, the references show the close correlation” between the two. A picture published on the Zionist news website NRG-Maariv taken by Ben Ari’s aide shows the lawmaker tearing up the book. “This despicable book galvanized the murder of millions of Jews during the Inquisition and during auto da fe instances”, he was quoted as saying in reference to the New Testament. “This is an ugly missionary provocation by the church; this book and its senders should be in history’s trash can”, Ben Ari said on NRG-Maariv. A parliamentary spokesman said that since it was a book and not dangerous materials that was sent, there was no reason to get involved in the lawmakers’ mail. Kalisher was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday. However, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was horrified by reports that a member of the Zionist parliament tore up a copy of the New Testament and posed for photographs with the destroyed bible. ADL called on Knesset Member Michael Ben Ari to publicly apologize for tearing up a copy of the New Testament he had received after a publisher sent copies to all members of the Zionist Knesset. |

Celebrities / South African Named First Woman To Chair AU by dramaticspeak(m): 12:57pm On Jul 16, 2012 |
The African Union has chosen South African Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as its leader, making her the first woman to hold the post Ms Dlamini-Zuma, the former wife of South African President Jacob Zuma, won the leadership of the AU commission in a third round of voting. She got 37 votes at the 54-member body, giving her the 60% majority she needed to be elected. The 63-year-old is currently South Africa's home affairs minister, and has also had spells as minister of health and of foreign affairs. She is one of her country's longest-serving ministers. But critics said her candidacy had broken an unwritten tradition that the chairmanship should not be occupied by one of Africa's major nations. Earlier this week, Mr Ping denied a South African media report speculating he was going to withdraw from the race. His use of the AU's website and letterhead for his statement prompted the southern African regional bloc Sadc to accuse him of misusing AU resources for his re-election bid. Ms Dlamini-Zuma's election came at a summit in Addis Ababa, the organisation's home city. As in January, the official theme of the summit was boosting intra-African trade. It is also due to focus on the continuing instability in Mali, mounting violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and tension between Sudan and South Sudan. Source: BBC News |
