Religion / MFM Fires 50 Pastors For Stealing Church Money by dramaticspeak(m): 12:35pm On Aug 22, 2012
The filth and misdemeanours that permeate the house of God has reared up its head again. This time around it is at the Dr. D. K. Olukoya-led Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) church, where 50 of the church pastors have just been reprimanded over allegations of financial impropriety and embezzlement of church funds. As the story goes, one Dr. Jeremiah Ajibola, who is the Assistant Regional Overseer (ARO) of the CAASO Regional Headquarters was said to have been queried from the headquarters over the decline in revenue coming from the CAASO region to the headquarters. Following this, an accountant was sent from the headquarters to CAASO region to assist in the shoring up of their revenue and maintaining adequate financial propriety.

The figures we scooped from our sources are as follows:

APRIL – An increment of N100,000

MAY – Over N800,000

JULY – Above N650,000

New reports from Sky Sports say that Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor is returning to Tottenham Hotspur on a full transfer. A transfer fee of £5 million was reportedly agreed between the two clubs earlier in the summer, but personal terms have been the fail point for finishing the deal between the Togolese striker and Spurs.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has suspended 46 government officials, including her son, for failing to declare their assets, the presidency said Tuesday [Aug 21].

"President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has with immediate effect, suspended 46 government officials for failing to declare their assets to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission", said a press release.

Charles Sirleaf, son of the president and deputy governor of the Central Bank, and David Anderson, chief of protocol at the executive mansion, are among those suspended.

The list also includes several deputy ministers and provincial superintendents.

When appointed to their respective positions, the officials were given 14 days to declare their assets.

"The suspension will remain in force until President Sirleaf receives confirmation from the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission that they have met the assets declaration requirements", according to the press release.

Before being reinstated, the suspended officials will have to pay the government an amount representing the value of their salaries and allowances for the period of suspension, it said.

When first elected in 2006 Sirleaf declared war on corruption, but failed to make serious inroads despite dismissing several ministers.

Africa's first elected female president, Sirleaf won a second term in 2011 elections and tackling graft is still one the most pressing issues in the country nine years after the end of a devastating civil war.

At Sirleaf's swearing-in ceremony in January, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said: "Corruption is one of the roadblocks to greater prosperity here in Liberia”.

In June the International Crisis Group released a report warning that corruption, along with nepotism, impunity and unemployment, could "jeopardise Liberia's democracy".
Crime / Missing Cynthia Osokogu's Corpse Found In A Mortuary In Lagos by dramaticspeak(m): 3:04pm On Aug 20, 2012

You hear some news and it shocks you to the bone marrow. Just got a call from Cynthia's cousin, the lady who went missing last month (If you missed it, see it HERE) that her corpse was found in a mortuary in Lagos over the weekend. The body has been in the mortuary since late July.

Details are sketchy but from what I gathered, Cynthia, a post graduate student of Nasarawa State University was robbed and killed in the hotel she lodged in Lagos by the same people who supposedly picked her up from the airport. This doesn't make any sense but this is what I was told. There's definitely more to the story. Even the family members don't have all the details.

Cynthia Udoka Osokogu, the 24 year old daughter of Major General Frank Osokogu RTD, came to Lagos in July to shop for her boutique in Nasarawa but didn't really tell anyone where exactly she was going to or who she was meeting.

Some people have been arrested in connection with her death.

World famous talk show host, Oprah Winfrey now has a word that she created ,added to the English dictionary. The word is “Aha moment” which is defined thus,”a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension.”
In a video segment for Merriam-Webster, Oprah added her own insight to the term, saying, “I always love those moments when I sit down to talk to somebody and they say something that makes me look at life or a situation in a completely different way. And I say, ‘Aha! I get it!’ Light bulb! Bing, bing, bing moment. And the little hairs on your arm stand up. That is an aha moment.”
Well the people at Mariam Webster must have had their own ‘aha moment’.Who better to add a word to the English dictionary, than the billionaire queen of talk shows herself ?
Politics / Security Tips For Every Nigerian by dramaticspeak(m): 9:44am On Aug 17, 2012

As Nigeria’s security situation increasingly becomes a dilemma, One begins to ponder where to run to. Is it a crime to be born here?, Recently adjudged as the 6th worst Nation to live in Africa, Nigeria over the years due to crass decay in Leadership and increased corruption has become a danger zone for its citizens and the international community. Government and public office holder’s detachment from their communities and responsibilities have come back to hurt us. We have thus bitten the forbidden fruit.

With a population of over 155 million people, Nigeria currently lies in a dire security mess as individuals can no longer sleep well or even travel within to certain geographical zones of the country due to the stronghold of some sects. Safeguarding yourself and your family is now at your peril as Social vices, trespassing, uncertainty, debasement, treachery and the dreaded Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad better known by its Hausa name Boko Haram can easily describe the Nigerian polity today. All these have arisen due to Government’s maleficence and character/culture degeneration.

Here are 15 cautious tips to keep you alert and be forethoughtful in the Nigeria we live in today:

1) Be Friendly with Neighbours | Maintaining a positive relationship with your neighbours go a long way in ensuring a safe neighbourhood. This breeds a lookout situation for every suburb and thus guarantees a watchful and vigilant locality.

2) Simple Lifestyle | Living a simple and responsible lifestyle thoroughly drives off attention from criminals and hoodlums. Conducting activities moderately and avoiding glitz and glamour help to make one less of a censurable and threat personality.

3) Be Vigilant | Being alert and watchful is a wisdom element. Every individual has to be sharp spirited and psyched up to happenings around them. Be observant, be perceptive and report any unwholesome/unusual behaviour immediately to the appropriate authorities.

4) Never Give Out Information Carelessly | This seems rather normal for most Nigerians, secret memos and data leak out of our lips either willingly, in pubs or even in an atmosphere of hysteria. Always ensure cogent information about you or members of your family are shared amongst those trustworthy. Never give vital information to persons unfamiliar to you.

5) Keep Gadgets Close at Night | Over the years, it has become common knowledge that having gadgets like radios, phones(loaded with airtime) and even the torchlight close to our easy reach permanently helps us during danger times. SOS Phone calls help to save lives as well as other home appliances.

6) Ensure Availability of Home Security Equipment | For the Home, security has never been a more talked about situation than now. Basic security appliances like lights, windows, doors and gates should be available and secured at night time. Doors should be locked, curtains drawn and gates closed.

7) Identify Weaknesses | Every individual/corporate body should always note the weaknesses in their home/organization and work hard to solve it. Weaknesses such as bad locks, a bad door or even a faulty bulb could be an incentive for opportunistic theft and thus attract burglars.

cool Avoid Late Night Outings | Taking the security situation of the country into consideration, it is wise for individuals to keep off late night activities. Depravity, evil doings and libidinousness mostly typify and peg night life in Nigeria.

9) Maintain a Conscious Mind | Nowadays in Nigeria, every home is a potential target but the more we maintain a sense of conscious, neighbour- less and community togetherness, security and defence would sooner than later become a problem of the past.

10) Examine Visitors | Ensure to always check and vet external bodies that visit your homes. Some are hoodlums who act on uniform as NPF or PHCN Staff. Always scrutinize such individuals and visitors and keep them at a distance.

We alone as a people can only secure ourselves. There is no surveillance like individual surveillance. Note that your safety is paramount and no officer can protect you more than you can.

Celebrities / Angry US Fans Call For Banky W's Arrest Over Show Fraud by dramaticspeak(m): 3:47pm On Aug 16, 2012

These are not the best of times for popular Nigerian musician, Banky W as many of those who bought tickets for his cancelled EME shows in the United States are alleging fraud.

The crux is the cancellation of EME US tour that should have held in California this August but was put off like some before it and they say Banky W is giving excuses as usual not to refund their money.

Many have also expressed disappointment over the sudden cancellation of Wizkid’s concert that was set to hold on August 17 in Oakland California alongside his tour of North America.

For "duping us of our money", some have called for the arrest and prosecution of the singer, insisting he should be made to pay compensation and make total refund of their money for the purchase of tickets for the cancelled shows.

Banky W, it was gathered, also cancelled his show in July 2011. Efforts by some fans, who had earlier bought ticket for the show, to get refund of their money or get the show rescheduled as promised by EME has been unsuccessful.... Reason for the cancellation, according to reports then was that Wizkid and Skales were denied US visas.

Banky W was said to have offered series of apologies in the past, including a promise to make 100% refund to those who bought tickets but sources say the fans have not seen their monies.

A source said there have been calls from the promoters to Banky W but he has refused to respond.

Also, it was gathered that when one of the person (@ogidika) who bought ticket for the cancelled show asked Banky W on twitter why the show was cancelled, he blocked the fellow on Twitter.
Foreign Affairs / Us Longest-serving Female Inmate Freed After 49 Years by dramaticspeak(m): 12:55pm On Aug 16, 2012

For the past 49 years, Betty Smithey has woken up in a prison cell, the nation's longest serving female inmate. But on Aug 14 she was waking up a free woman.

Smithey, now 69, was granted parole by the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency on Monday. She was released from the Arizona State Prison Complex in Perryville, walking with a cane.

"It's wonderful driving down the road and not seeing any barbed wire," Smithey told the Arizona Republic. "I am lucky, so very lucky”.

At age 20, Smithey was convicted in the 1963 New Year's Day murder of Sandy Gerberick, a 15-month-old girl she had been babysitting.

Smithey was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. According to Arizona law at the time she was sentenced, only the governor could grant her clemency.

She tried, appealing to then-governors Fyfe Symington and Janet Napolitano, but was denied until Jan Brewer, the current governor, agreed to lower her sentence to 48 years to life.

Smithey will live with her niece in Mesa, Ariz.

Smithey has battled breast cancer and "a myriad of other health issues", said her attorney, Andy Silverman.

"She's absolutely not a threat to society. She's almost 70 years old now", Silverman said. "She's done a lot of reflection. Forty-nine years in prison, you think a lot about what you've been through”.

Sports / LOBATAN: 7 Cameroonian Athletes Disappear In The On-going London 2012 Olympics by dramaticspeak(m): 11:03pm On Aug 07, 2012

The Cameroon Ministry of Sports and Physical Education has announced the disappearance of seven athletes while in Britain for the London 2012 Olympics.

The seven – five boxers, a swimmer and a soccer player – are suspected of having left to stay in Europe for economic reasons.

According to Reuters, “What began as rumour has finally turned out to be true. Seven Cameroonian athletes who participated at the 2012 London Olympic Games have disappeared from the Olympic Village,” David Ojong, the mission head said in a message sent to the ministry. Please click to continue reading...
Ojong said a reserve goalkeeper for the women’s soccer team, Drusille Ngako, was the first to disappear. She was not one of the 18 finally retained after pre-Olympic training in Scotland. While her team-mates left for Coventry for their last preparatory encounter against New Zealand, she vanished. A few days later, swimmer Paul Ekane Edingue and his personal belongings were also not found in his room.

Ojong added that five boxers eliminated from the games, Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Ambomo, disappeared on Sunday from the Olympic village.

It is not the first time Cameroonian athletes have disappeared during international sports competitions. Last year, 15 Ethiopian athletes disappeared after competing in the All Africa Games in Mozambique.

Mozambique is a popular transit route for illegal immigrants from Ethiopia, Somalia and central Africa. It was reported that they went to South Africa, in the hope of finding better opportunities.
