Please send me a link to the ad.

I have Wes oo. I just don’t have the money to be sending official test scores.

Oh, they might want the GRE ooo. Sorry. 🤦

I previously checked out their mechanical engineering MS program and their Emvironmental Science PhD program and I don’t think their MS in Mechanical Engineering funds their students and the PhD requires one to find a supervisor. The fact that they require official transcript and gre score is even more annoying.
But they recently posted a GA ad for Mechanical Engineering for the Fall 2023 term. Yeah.

Also, you can try Virginia tech..they love engineers. There, even though they listed the WES as a a criterion, people I know only just sent the one they did with the gpa calculator...

Typically no. RA/TA etc require you to do some kind of work. Fellowship on the other hand, do not require any kind of work.
Yeah, I know about Fellowships. But I hear people talk about funding so much these days, that I began to wonder if Fellowships are no longer merit-based. Except, they're seeking some kind of reduction in their tuition, surely that many people cannot be qualified to want a piece of those Fellowships...and this is why I assume that every Masters student, especially from Africa, shouldn't be choosey as to start by ignoring graduate assistantships, when even PhD candidates apply for GA.

Anyway, I don't know what program you are applying to, but I know for a fact that Georgia Southern has GAs. For Masters students.

This school do not fund Masters students ( Please correct me if I’m wrong). They also require you to secure a supervisor before you’re admitted into their PhD program and they need official transcript evaluation and GRE score.
When people say funding, do they often mean that their admission letters should come with free money that would not require them to do some kind of work in return?

Am I the only one experiencing this?
Most schools application page is not responding
If you are experiencing same plz let me know
February 1st is the priority deadline for the fall term in many schools. Of cos, many students have waited until this last day to apply.

That's good, as you lead I'll follow then. I will try to apply and pay too.
One thing I'm worried about is hope if given admission full funding go follow ?

Yeah I all my docs ready
Do what you may and hope for the best. That's what every other person here does. Good luck to us.

YoungWizard007:
What's your take on this
You think we should go on and apply or drop it
I already am applying, but that's because I know the kind of profile I'm working with and know what I want. Promises are not my problem at this stage..I have two of them. I just can't fold my hands and put all my hope in them. I believe though that if you have all the docs, you are already more than half way across.

Chibertha plz come down here oo
Marshall sent me an email requesting for EngineeringCAS
Hahaha.. This is what I talk about.

It was a 150 dolls and it put people off. All good... cheddar is not easy anywhere. Then we hear that it's free, but see the number of interests it is piquing.

As I'm picking up as well, applying to the more competitive programs, has also been made tougher. So far, someone has mentioned BioMedCAS, another, EngineeringCAS, I did BusinessCAS and have also seen SOPHAS ---- all centralised app systems that compulsorily request for stuff like WES, test scores, sometimes publications and the works, before ushering candidates ahead to do supplemental applications at the schools' websites, costing even more, typically.

But the beauty herein (amongst other advantages) is that, these bumps and stops, put..people..away. And it gives those who do not ordinarily have a fighting chance, one...

We also hear ChiBertha talk about GA openings scattered about her campus, don't we? While I'm yet to get to where I can confirm this, it's a given that the sail would be smoother than many others, that do not utilise such systems.

I'm not old oo, but I know some wise sayings. And this is just my cent please, not an invitation for anyone to come join me in a WWF ring.

Peace out at this point if you still do not copy my point.

That was before covid, not now anymore. Gre has been waived and will be outlaw soon.
And again, most schools look at several factors when it comes to Graduate application.
SOP, letter of Recommendation, Resume if done right can give good funding.

P.S. I wrote GRE though, and was told blantly it's not needed
Ohh, you have finished writing your own. Okay.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Dreamsss: 6:33pm On Jan 29, 2023
NightCyrax:
And what if they both have great test scores but different levels of research skills? Also, I never said test scores aren't crucial. I guess you were quite peevish to reply, hence the causation of you missing my point.

Anyway, different strokes for folks. I only feel that as much as we try to strengthen our applications using test scores, other factors should be given priorities too-- top priorities.
Dude, I didn't say you did either. I could easily call you peevish too. It was an overview. My advice was even directed at someone who's looking to correct course, after a failed attempt. What d'you hope to gain from painting scenarios, that detract attention from the value of doing something more?

I would pick the one with better research antecedent and skills; the one with hands-on expertise in handling laboratory equipment through demonstrated individual research-breakthrough.

The GRE is a crucial factor, no doubt. At the same time, it remains a singular material out of many.
Semantics...
Better research antecedents are dependent on what I publish and can defend before an admissions committee. Would you even say that we do better research than our abroad counterparts? Going by that, we will not even smell their embassies. How do we compete, is the question?

Okay, say we ride out the impassioned logic that standardized tests are not crucial, if both have wonderful research works prior to admission and one has a score to submit, who stands a chance then?

In brief.... let's help ourselves.

I will pick the candidate with 5 years experience with no GRE.

Ugochukwu Madu got into 5 fully funded PhD programs in the US without GRE in fall 2022. Search for him on LinkedIn.

WTF is GRE. A 4 hours exam that has been bastardized with the home edition version. Don't be surprised most high scoring result don't even seat for it anymore, they outsource it.

GRE is expensive for the poor brilliant candidate in the 3rd world countries.

Most schools abroad are coming to terms with this new reality, thanks to Covid, now without GRE graduate are even performing better in school, e.g Florida State University has waived it till 2026.

Alot of schools in the US now waived GRE forever.

I can count 100 top schools that waived it already.

Don't waste your money
Been there and done that. Everything I didn't want to do, I found a way to convince myself and others why it might not be necessary. Until I began to acknowledge the competition out there, like the OGs have been preaching about here. When you hear that a program is competitive, how do you advice people then, to make themselves stand out? Would it not be for them to up their game in every possible way? The Ugochukwu Madu you mention is one person that made it without the GRE, will you deny the existence of a lot others that had succeeded with one, and even with a smoother experience? Was it even handed to him on a platter? Tell his complete story... We strike off WES, we strike off Standardized tests, we look for free applications everywhere, so how do you want people to compete? Speak better grammar in SOP?

Well, my advice for people who have Gone and now Know, should be to take note of the time you waste and be smart enough to know when to up your game. I personally know how all these I mentioned up there have greatly covered a gap for me, given the fact that I didn't have a stellar GPA.

Bro, you're right. My profile is very very weak. I need to up my game now. I will try to gather all the other parts of my application, which are GRE, Even if is one publication, stronger SOP, if I have the funds I evaluate my transcript, then apply strategic; strategic I mean is, applying to schools in a region not to known, and also making sure I run away from those hat waive Application fee.
No publication, no standardized tests, big man schools, no WES...straight to PhD.

Hmnnnnn...okay .

Just a subtle reminder that February is around the corner, virtual grad fair invites will be sent by graduate school make sure you attend these meetings because sometimes, these may be interviews and that's how they decide if they will be give you funding or not.

I wish us all a good news in the coming month.
Very correct. Same to you.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Dreamsss:
That's how they tell you that the GRE is not a requirement and then they tell you that they encourage students to send anyway and provide an actual code grin

If you are a prof and you see two students' applications for funding/GA, one with GRE score and the other without, who would you pick?

Think am well.

But does WES accept electronic transcripts direct or will I go through ETX.ng
Okay you didn't understand what I said then. Your school can send directly, electronically to WES. Of cos, you'll often get e-transcripts (student copy) as every transcript request is generated from your school, but I mean they can send to Wes electronically.

Thanks so much for your input. My school do seed Electronic transcript. I have done that before, they they delayed before that sent it.
But I am more concerned about the WES own. Please I sent you a pm
What about the WES? I've responded.
