If you don’t need a car to carry out your duties, you might not put “Car” in your budget.
It is the lawmakers that will decide to compensate you with a car or not.

Wike as the Minister for FCT will need vehicles to transport workers and equipments for demolition or even to go warn owners of illegal structures.
As such, he can put “Vehicles” in his budget.

But the Chief Justice doesn’t need a car to preside over supreme court or administer oath of office to the president and VP.
As such, he/she might not put “Car” in his/her budget.

However, they can decide to put “Car” in their budget for personal needs(not expected but also not out of place).
The lawmakers will decide to strike it out or grant it as a compensation and privilege for holding that office.

In the case of lawmakers, they don’t need a car to discharge their duties in the house. But they can budget it for themselves and it will be granted by them as a form of compensation and privilege.

It is the legislature that will decide the car type and the amount of money for cars of Judiciary, Executives, and themselves, the legislature.

The cars remain theirs after service. I already talked about retained privileges after leaving office e.g security entourages.

The legislature can decide to use whatever amount they like to buy cars. If you don’t see wisdom in it, you should contest to be a lawmaker so you can counter such decisions.

They can decide to buy cars for even a cleaner. It’s their decision to make.

Salaries and all are the basic provisions you receive once you’re being employed.

Again, you don’t get to decide which value they provide to enjoy what they enjoy. They can grant themselves enjoyment for doing nothing. The rationality behind that, I can’t comment.

In 2024, Lagos’ IGR was almost 2T. Their budget was over 2T. The 7B is just 0.28% of the budget.

1. The legislature makes these decisions. They can decide the exact car to buy for everyone.

b. The cars are not to be returned. They retain certain privileges after leaving office. This is why you see former governors, presidents, ministers, speakers still with security entourages alongside other retained privileges.

2. Difference and similarity has nothing to do with their budget.
A business can budget 7 billion naira for cars of their unit heads and top level executives.
The legislature can budget 7 billion naira for cars of law makers.

3. People in the corporate world and civil service don’t have to offer same value to get same benefits. Their functions differ.
Is law making in civil service not a different function from attracting and retaining customers in the corporate world?

Salaries, allowances and benefits are the most basic provisions whether in the civil service or corporate world.
The value of the salaries and all may differ, but you don’t need to climb up to a “certain level” before you’re entitled to receiving them.

1. Politicians since time immemorial have been receiving official cars since time immemorial. From the Legislative arm to the Executive arm. Even the Judicial arm who are not even politicians receive it when at certain level.
It didn’t start today, it is very usual!

2. No, civil service is not same as corporate world.

3. Many rules that apply in the corporate world don’t apply in the civil service but still, there are similarities is many of their rules. E.g Salaries, Allowance and benefits, security at certain levels, official cars and drivers at certain levels, etc.

As if they're not earning enough to purchase vehicles for themselves from their purses. They already have cars, if they needed another they can buy it from their fat paychecks yet they keep allocating billions of naira to buy new cars for themselves every other year. Public servants living luxuriously the lives the people they serve can only dream of. Why won't they be willing to kill or be killed to get to office?

Even in the corporate world, when you reach a certain level, you get a car and a driver. At that point, your salary is enough to get that for you but your company will still give you.
