Let us start the Discussion on GIS...

Congrats to the Newly admitted student... Am sure those admitted last will know the Value of admission, reason bin that u guyz have been anticipating for this list. Atlast u made it to 2nd best state University in Nigeria .
Getting admission is not the main issue, how you operate on Campus is the main thing.... "No employer will ask you the school you graduated from, they will ask you the grade you graduated with" .

My Advise Goes thus:

1. Set high personal and academic standards for yourself, and live up to them: Listen to that little voice inside you that says, “I can do this.” Believe in yourself. Realize that school is work; it’s not play time. Settle for nothing less than your very best. Willingness to accept anything less than the very best too often becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. Strive for an “A” in all your courses. If you fall short of an “A”, you might earn a “B”. If you fall short of a “C”, you might earn a “D” or “F”.


2. Strive to understand. Don’t merely memorize; increase your depth of understanding. You need to attempt to fully comprehend what you need to know and be able to do as a result of your education.


3. Remember that grades count: The best jobs with the best pay most often go to those with the best grades. High grades imply intelligence, personal excellence, and dedication to seeing a job well done. High grades can make all the difference in landing the ideal job or getting into graduate school at the institution of your choice.


4. Investigate study and test taking skills: Educational researchers have studied what it takes to get ahead academically. Take advantage of what they can tell us.


5. Get to know a wide range of people – faculty, staff, and students. Networking is important. : It is often true that who you know is just as important as what you know. Use your acquaintances to advantage, but don’t take advantage of them. Meet with your departmental advisor early on and frequently; he or she can provide valuable and timely advice. Get to know your teachers; just because they might have a Ph.D. is no reason to believe that they are not interested in you as a student. Get to know the majors in your field, and form a study group.


6. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. Work should come before pleasure. Manage your time effectively; set up a timeline for getting word completed in each of your courses. Set aside adequate time for homework, study, sleep, relationships, and work. You need not always finish every task all at once. Remember, you can write at 365-page book every year if you only write one page per day.


7. Break your large tasks down into manageable subtasks. Large jobs rarely can be completed at one setting. Tackle small parts of a large task each day; avoid cramming. Remember the fable of the tortoise and the hare; slow and steady is often better than jackrabbit sprints.

8. Chose your friends carefully. : Friends can support you in your efforts to maximize the benefits of a college education. Friends too set on having a good time at the expense of a good education can be seriously detrimental. Get to know people who express high social, academic, and personal values.


9. Honesty is the best policy. :Avoid cheating in all its forms – collusion, plagiarism, copying, etc. Students who cheat seriously fail to learn what is oftentimes important, and this doesn’t help them in the long run. Sometimes the only things they do learn – after getting caught – is that cheating doesn’t pay.


10. Don’t ignore or deny your personal and academic problems. : Problems will often get worse if they are not directly addressed in a timely fashion. Procrastination in any of its many forms can lead to a small problem getting much worse. Get help when you need it. Speak to your course instructors, your advisor, or your parents.


11. Don’t make important decisions based on second-hand information: Jumping to rash conclusions based in incorrect information can cause you significant personal and professional problems. If you are uncertain about something, check it out before you decide.
Seek out special opportunities. College is a time to expand your mind and your experiences. Select your general education courses wisely. Consider student research, field trip opportunities, or a new language. Choose courses that will expand your world; avoid taking courses merely because they are “an easy A” or a “blow-off course.”


12. Get a job.: Studies show that students who work from about 8-10 hours per week tend to organize and spend their “free” time more wisely. Overworking or not working at all sometimes can be detrimental to personal and academic success.


13. Don’t over-commit yourself: Mature students always take responsibility for their actions – all of them. Some students will commit themselves to more work than they are capable of completing. Don’t let this happen to you; you owe it to others to be honest to your word.


14. Make yourself a well-rounded person: Consider all four dimensions of life as you strive to educate yourself – physical, spiritual, intellectual, and social. Spend time each day developing each of these four dimensions.


15. Take responsibility for yourself: When some students begin college life their sense of personal responsibility seems to disappear. Parents or guardians are not longer “cracking the whip” making certain that everything is getting done correctly or on time. That work is now the responsibility of the student. Failure to recognize this fact has resulted in even some of the best high school students failing as university students.

conservational professionals and other Africans across the continent;

STRATEGIC FOCI
NSEC hereby adopts the following strategic foci:
I. Serve as channel of communication and information sharing among the members.
II. Convene fora to share research findings, initiate discussions and collaboration among
conservation professionals and practitioners.
III. Facilitate skill development, fundraising and mentorship programmes.
IV. Engage in information dissemination, outreach and sensitisation on biodiversity
conservation.
V. Increase application of science to management and policy.

I. Serve as channel of communication and information sharing among the members

The aim of this focus of the strategic plan is to communicate benefits and opportunities of Biodiversity Conservation to members in the Chapter, as well as initiate active membership, and involvement and participation of members in Conservation activities.
Short term
• Encourage membership registration, and active participation of members in conservation
activities at chapter, section, working groups, and global levels.
• Clearly communicate the benefits and opportunities of joining NSEC to the Chapter
members and other conservation professionals.
Long term
• Constantly assess the needs and interests of members for necessary intervention and
linkages.
• Facilitate sharing of information that can enhance career development and build
capacity for members.
• Develop a plan to improve membership retention.

II. Convene fora to share research findings, initiate discussions and collaboration among conservation professionals and practitioners

This focus of the strategic plan covers organisation of high level scientific forum of the Organization aim at facilitating information sharing, as well as local and international collaborations and networking among the Chapter members and other conservation professionals. It also include
organisation of skills and capacity building programmes.




Short term
• Organise hosting of conference on “Biodiversity Conservation ”. This scientific forum is to initiate discussions among students, professionals and practitioners on current and pertinent conservation issues, and provide opportunities for presentation of current research findings. In addition, Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Chapter will be held during the meeting.
• Workshops and symposia will be organised either before, during or after the conference
for skills and capacity building.
Intermediate
• Plan toward putting together of the bid for hosting all Africa Conservation scientist meeting to facilitate international collaborations and networking.
Long term
• Convene Chapter’s conference at least once every two years to create platforms for
sharing of ideas, facilitate collaboration among conservation professionals and practitioners, as
well as initiate discussions on the science and practice of conservation in Nigeria and Africa at
large.

III. Facilitate skill development, fundraising and mentorship programmes

This focus of the strategic plan specifically target mentorship, skills and capacity building
programmes, and raising and disbursement of funds for young researchers within the Chapter.
Short term
• Develop mentorship programs and initiatives on research areas and opportunities,
particularly those targeted at future conservation professionals within the Organization.
Intermediate
• Initiate collaboration with reputable conservation organizations in Nigeria for training,
as well as skills and capacity building programme for the members.
• Establish a “ Conservation Foundation”. This is the charity arm
of the Organization that will be responsible for provision and distribution of funds to young
conservation researchers, and other approved conservation activities in Nigeria.
• Exploit opportunities for consultancy services with reputable organisations and
institutions within and outside Nigeria.

Long term
• Support the development of training, workshops and educational programs within the
Organization that address needs of conservation professionals, practitioners and students in
Nigeria.
• In collaboration with Top Conservation Organization, seeks funding for short-term and long-term research and training for conservation related activities or programmes in Nigeria.

IV. Engage in information dissemination, outreach and sensitisation on biodiversity conservation

This focus of the strategic plan is to establish a robust and updated information sharing
platform, and timely dissemination of information for benefit of members. It is also aimed at
supporting dissemination of high-quality conservation science through publications that meet
the needs of students, researchers, and practitioners.


Short term
• In collaboration with some conservation organization, set up a website for wider awareness creation of the Organization activities and other relevant information.
• Establish presence on social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter for active
and current information sharing, and on time virtual discussions.
• Establish a newsletter with the aim of disseminating quick and pertinent conservation
information on topical issues, create public awareness, and provide information on
conservation opportunities.

Long term
• Establish a journal for dissemination of quality scientific research findings.
• Promote advocacy and outreaches for biodiversity conservation at all levels of
education in Nigeria. Specifically, plan will be made to get the attention of Primary and Secondary Schools.

V. Increase application of science to management and policy

• Promote advocacy and implementation of policy in support of biodiversity conservation
in Nigeria.
• Foster collaboration among conservation managers, decision-makers, and scientists to
critically evaluate conservation actions and influence conservation policy.
• Involve in release of policy statements on conservation issues that needed urgent
attention and intervention.

• Seek for opportunities and facilitate sharing of information that can enhance career
development and build research capacity for members.

particularly those targeted at future conservation professionals within the Organization.
Long term
• Support the development of training, workshops and educational programs within the
Chapters that address needs of professionals and students.

(4) FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

Short term
• Embark on activities leading to raising of fund for the Organization.
• Exploit opportunities for consultancy services with reputable organisations and
institutions within and outside Nigeria, with sole benefit of members and the Organization.
• Coordinate the activities of “Conservation Foundation”; the charity arm of the Organization responsible for provision and distribution of funds to young
researchers and other approved conservation activities in Nigeria.
Long term
• In collaboration with Top conservation organization, seek funding for short-term and long-term research and training for conservation related activities or programmes in Nigeria.

(5) PUBLIC ADVOCACY AND POLICY COMMITTEE

• Promote advocacy and implementation of policy in support of biodiversity conservation
in Nigeria.
• Foster collaboration among conservation managers, decision-makers, and scientists to

• Plan the First Conference of the Organization starting with 2016 Proposed Conference. The Meeting is to create platforms and initiate discussions on the science and practice of conservation, as well as facilitate collaboration among students, conservation professionals and practitioners in Nigeria and Africa at large.
• Put together the bid for hosting of Africa Conservation scientist as stated under Focus II of this strategic Plan.

REQUEST FOR NOMINATION OF INDIVIDUALS TO SERVE AS A MEMBER OF CONSTITUTIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE
NIGERIA SOCIETY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION (NSEC).

The NIGERIA SOCIETY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION (NSEC) presents its compliments to you for the continuous effort to promote the conservation of biodiversity in Nigeria and presents the following request for your consideration and assistance.

As you may be aware, NSEC, has since July 2015 been facilitating a process to establish an institution that will work towards bridging the gap of biodiversity conservation in Nigeria. This process has involved diverse stakeholders through various platforms to discuss the elements required to establish this institution - the NSEC, The mission of NSEC is to " To help in the sustainability and conservation of our dwindling natural resources, for both the present and future generation, for the benefit of Mankind."
The NSEC will be established under the Constitution guiding an NGO and will be held in trust by Trustees in accordance with provisions of the trust deed that establishes it. The Trustees will be persons nominated and serving, on a voluntary basis, in their individual capacities and independent of the institutions they work for, represent or are affiliated to. During stakeholder consultations at the Inaugural Meeting, held at University of Ibadan on 31st Oct., 2015, a transparent and inclusive process of selecting committee that will work on constitution was recommended. It was also recommended that the individuals suitable to serve as Member of this committee should possess the following credentials, among others:

a. Personal interest, commitment, availability and willingness to serve voluntarily
b. High integrity and ethical conduct
c. Capacity to serve independent of other institutional affiliations
d. Not currently holding political office, not running for elective political office and not directly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office
e. Law abiding with no criminal record.

The nominations received by NSEC will be vetted by a Committee composed of representatives from Government (central and local government), Non-Governmental Organizations, Private Sector, Academia, Development Partners as well as individuals in their own right. The shortlisted candidates will be subjected to due diligence processes before a final selection is conducted with assistance of an Advisory Committee composed of prominent personalities constituted specifically for the purpose of recruiting Committees.

For all nominees, Please contact your school coordinator, and please use the candidate nomination form (attached/ forwarded) to provide their particulars and to state why you think they make good candidates as NSEC Constitutional Member.

You are free to nominate any mature person from within or outside Nigeria as long as s/he can be identified with the purpose of NSEC. NSEC would like to assure you that your nomination and correspondence on this matter will be treated with the appropriate level of confidentiality. This information may be shared with members of the Foundation Executives who are assisting with the committee selection, and with NSEC advisors on a need-to-know basis. NSEC does reserve the right to contact the candidate and any references mentioned in the nomination form and NSEC may seek clarification from you wherever necessary.

I would like to start by Congratulating the Admitted student on Jamb site. Later, I will give an Online Orientation about the school, and what you need do to suceed.

However, it has come to my Notice that Jamb is Changing Course for some Pdite, Yeah its Possible, based on some Reasons. At the sametime, if u are given a course u did not like or u did not choose, wait till school Upload their List on school site. Goodluck.
For the Jambite, I commented here some weeks ago about the doubt of Most Jambite gaining admission in 2nd List, I would advise all that you should cool down, in the History of 3080, 2nd List is Majorly dominated by the Pre-degree student. Jambite should however look towards the 3rd list, which I believe they will admit most People, if u meet the Cut-off. Don't stress yourself, or cause problem for yourself. Believe in God, and he will do it.
The already admitted student might resume before others, but that doesn't mean others won't be admitted again.
