Coming to Canada If you're considering Canada for your graduate studies, you should be strategic in how you email Professors. Another potential reason you don't get a response is because you're emailing Professors in High-paying tuition schools (e.g- UofT, McGill & UBC). Except they have grants to support you, incl. tuition (or you have a scholarship), they're limited in the number of International Students to accept In this thread, I listed about 10 schools that pay the same tuition fees as locals. Please prioritize emailing Professors there. Good luck https://twitter.com/drhammed/status/1375075736470622208?s=20 https://twitter.com/drhammed/status/1356254615659020289?s=20 |

Congratulations. mrdynamix: |
Anyone living in Mississauga here? I would like to ask some questions. |
portablesuzy:Hi, you may ask questions and I'll answer as best as I can. I've been living in Montreal for close to 2yrs, so perhaps I can answer your questions. |
I understand very well and quite agree with you and of course the OP. My point is that in addition to the right fit (good CGPA, GRE, etc), securing a potential Professor to support your application is one of the MAIN criteria for evaluation (especially Ph.D. admission). This is necessary because not all Profs admit students yearly for some reason (the lab is full, no funding, retiring soon, etc) as such if you apply, they won't review it. It's highly important to establish contact prior to application. Although this depends on each school and such information (securing prior or not) will be stated on the departmental website. But in most cases, you need at least ONE. Some schools will even state explicitly that "they won't review the documents of students without the support of a potential Prof". fairheart: |

I beg to disagree with you a bit on this. For Ph.D. application (at least sciences, engineering) and in USA/Canada, you STRONGLY need an appraisal of a supervisor. Most schools will even state this categorically that "applicants are strongly encouraged to contact a potential PI". Of course, this is not universally through and some department allows you to apply and mention the name(s) of Profs you would like to work with (I must tell you this is tricky and your chances of gaining admission is way below 50% if you had not secured a PI already). Your narratives may be true if it's M.Sc application (most M.Sc thesis even requires you to secure PI 1st), but for a Ph.D., (and in 85% of schools that I have visited their website) you STRONGLY need the support of a Professor. sultanfortune: |
kayzee2374:All the best bro. We shall celebrate you soon |
Happy New Month. All the best to everyone awaiting MCF decision. |
atutupoyoyo2211:Lol. That's great. |
sweetrie:Oh. Sounds good. If there's any link stating that on the embassy page, I'd appreciate if you can share. Thanks. |
atutupoyoyo2211:Sorry to ask bro, Are you still using Nigerian passport? I mean you applied for US visa with Nigerian passport and got 10yrs Visa . Or is it another visa type and not B1/B2?. My opinion is that, US only grants 2yrs visa (B1/B2 category) for Nigerians (atleast that's what I and friends that I know have) even though I applied and got it in Canada. PS: I'm not here to say you're lying or sort of. I just want to learn from that and perhaps I can pick something from it. |
vikky47:Wait for departmental nomination. This is also good so you won't have to pay application fee. |
maestro09:For school or Mastercard? If it's school, I would address it to Graduate program director or admission committee. If Mastercard, the MasterCard Selection Committee. E.g: To, The MasterCard Scholarship Selection Committee, Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, University of ABC. XYZ road, Lagos, Nigeria. Or To, The Graduate Program Director, Department of ABC, University of XYZ. I hope that helps, atleast for a start. |
Apply and Goodluck iamElgee: |
Although they may not be mutually exclusive, but the point from the man (Which to greater extent, TRUE) is that we should work when we're supposed to, and PRAY as needed. He didn't say you should stop prayers, but using that to justify what's not is the ish. thesicilian: |
