Your car should come with a manual which you should study judiciously to help you take adequate care of that baby. That way people won't be telling you to commit an abomination by advising the usage of oando dextron and mobil xhp for a Lexus Rx. If you don't have the manual, you can download it online. Back to your questions, you need 4.75L of 5w30 oil grade if you are changing the oil filter and 4.5L if you are using the old filter. It is advisable to buy engine oil of 5L or above( Coastal, Lubex etc). For the gear, you need 5L of Toyota Type T-IV. These are products you can easily buy on konga or jumia depending on your preference. The car might be a bit expensive to maintain but it is highly reliable, dependable and very safe if you take proper care of it. I do a combined journey of over 900miles every forth night with mine and it has never coughed once. #reppingRx300for2yearsnow# |

Toks RX330 for 1.8m? Caveat emptor: buyers beware!!!!!!!!! |
normal fuel economy at 13mpg? I bet you don't own that truck. I presently have one and when you talk of a fuel guzzler, that truck it is. But overall, it is a rugged, hauling power horse |
Good day All, kindly add me to the MB whassap group. My digits are: 08033614852. Thanks |
Dear all, pls I need help for my Golf 3 1997 model, 1.8L, i4, automatic gear. The battery(which is relatively new) became flat last week and I used a jumper cable to start the engine which came on at the first attempt and has been ok till now. However, I noticed that the mileage indicator/gauge only shows the normal mileage when the engine is switched off.Immediately I kickstart the car, the mileage disappears and is replaced by a blinking CErr which alternates with - - - - - - (six dash lines). I had removed the battery terminals but the issue persists on replacing them back. I drove the car round town today hoping it would rectify itself but it's still the same. Pls help! Thanks. |

Dear forumites, a friend just took delivery of ML320 last week. He was thoroughly enjoying the ride when the check engine light came on yesterday. I advised him to get the car scanned when he told me on the phone. Car is located in benin. Any good car scan/diagnostic centre in Benin? Thanks. |

am interested. kindly send mileage and Vin number to: drhappi2005@yahoo.com |
650k cash. What do you say? |
To the discerning mind: BUHARI - tried repatriating a corrupt northerner and kinsman(Umaru Dikko) in a wooden crate. JONATHAN- gave presidential pardon to his criminal brother, and ex-convict(DSP Alams). Evidences don't lie !!!! Sai Buhari |
@Gazzuzz: You are better off at the car talk section(dissing Autosbay), not playing SherIock Holmes. I know the late Dr.Oguntuase very well right from when he was in the army before he left to pursue his residency training. As a budding 'shamus', you should know that a Consultant Paediatrician already being touted as the next Chief Medical Director of a Federal Medical Centre is not likely to have any cause(s) to dissappear. I equally know the embattled CMD and am also privy of the longstanding war of attrition between these two senior colleagues and the angles of some powerful nigerians from the axis where the CMD hails from(can't go into details). That town is largely known for vengeful feuds if you go down memory lane. This is a clear case of sheer, gruesome murder, plain and simple! |
A used Korean car with almost 250k miles for N1.25m? Doesn't sound reasonable to me. Is the price quoted (N300k) for a brand new engine or Tokunbo? |
Many thanks to the OP for this exposé. I drove from Ibadan to abakaliki yesterday and the journey was smooth until I got to the onitsha-awka-enugu expressway. Its a shame that some people would rather resort to lies on this thread about the state of that road.I drove a Nissan xterra and got stuck twice.Thank God for the auxiliary gear of the car that bailed me out.Had to take the car to a car wash at ogoja road immediately I entered Ai. The thought of even going back next weekend churns my stomach. Yet some people still want us to believe all is well with GEJ's disposition to the Ndigbos. Truth is there's no sign of construction work going on save the one at awka roundabout( I doubt if its not the state's govt.project). My heart goes out to those with smaller cars plying that road.Bottom line is your cannot drive your personal car on that road and not curse the government of the day. Lesson learnt: Next time am coming to abakaliki, the option is to leave my car at asaba and join PMT from osha to Ai(N1000 max). shikena! |
my initial submission was based specifically on the Rx300. @colossus2: I think your oil should be okay if you get it from accredited Toyota dealers because of adulteration as earlier stated on this thread. As for the service interval, it is said that 5000km or 3months(whichever comes first) should suffice to guard against sludge which the RX is prone to. However, I use the oil specified by my engine cap. Please note the SAE and API directives. These and many others tallied with the manufacturer's instructions.

@utuphbe: the recommended engine oil for the RX300 according to the manual is the synthetic blend not the semisynthetic variant(milemaster's 5w-30). You might just be frying your engine gradually without knowing it. Even the konga site is silent on the Rx despite recommending the oil for V6 of Camry, Highlander & Solara. |
I will definitely pick the RX over and over again. Why? The Rio is just an ordinary car. The RX is a machine!!! #teammachines# |
It was fun driving Mrs.Happy everywhere and anytime until the kids started coming in with the attendant extra hassles(school runs, shopping, her mobility with the kids whenever I travel outside town). The ultimate goal was to buy her a car then but getting her to master my old Mazda 626 manual tranny was an exercise in futility. The day I 'konked' her head out of frustration was when I realised that maybe I wasn't cut out to train her,so I decided to pay my mechanic to do the job. By the end of the second week,my mechanic advised me to go get her an automatic car and I gladly complied. Then the story changed. Within 4days she was driving herself around the hospital we lived in back then and even took us to church the following Sunday.I then bought another automatic and sold off the Mazda. I personally love manual rides due to their advantages but what's the point buying a car that cannot be of use to your spouse?Am now stuck with automatics not because I want to, but simply because I want domestic peace to reign. |
Lexus all the way for me.The RX is just another Toyota Highlander with different body and trappings. I own one(2002 model) and its been a really wonderful experience so far. Drives like a jet. Parts are also readily available but I quite agree that it's a bit expensive cos they in high demand. The Xterra is cheaper, strong and rugged with less appeal beauty wise. Don't really know much about the Ford but with the advent of OBD machines in Nigeria, there shouldn't be much stress in maintaining any vehicle. |
@jimmrozz:sounds like some of your car's metallic accessories(jack, wheel spanner, turning rod etc) are close together. You might have to separate them and observe the outcome before acting again.Talking from my personal experience. |
