Diva residents have taken up a major task to flush out Nigerians from their region by roping in auto drivers to not give ride to them. With increase in population of Nigerians in Diva in the last one year, nuisance too has grown. So, now the locals have decided to boycott them through all means, which would force them to leave the region permanently. Population of Nigerians living in and around Shiv Shakti Nagar and the other parts has touched 2,000, as flat owners, expecting higher rent from them, often allow them to live illegally in the region. "Earlier, we had no problem to accommodate them in housing colonies as their number was less. But now due to increase in their population, we are facing problems. They come home late at night, speak loudly and their brawls are dangerous. In most cases, they end up assaulting locals, which creates further problems," said Umakant Patil, a resident and a social worker. "Some also indulge in illegal activities by overstaying in the region. They are rude to neighbours and hold parties inside the flat, consume drugs. So, we decided to speak to auto drivers to not allow them inside their vehicles. This will discourage them from staying in the region," added Patil. "We will not ply Nigerians in our autos, as they often get into fights with us over fares. We cannot fight them back due to their robust and strong muscles," said an auto driver from Diva. Meanwhile, afraid of a backlash, Nigerians don't raise their voice. "Due to a few Nigerians, the whole community has to suffer. But we have faith in the law of this land and are sure that government authorities will look into the matter," said Abiola Okafor, a Nigerian. "We have been facing racist remarks since we have started residing in this area. And now boycotting us from all means is injustice to the community," said David Nanamani, another Nigerian. Cop speaks DCP Sachin Patil said, "We are looking into the matter and adequate action will be taken depending on the situation if we get the complaints from locals or Nigerians living legally in the region." http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report-nigerians-are-a-nuisance-for-diva-residents-2162635 |

Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has joined the tirade between YBNL’s CEO, Olamide Adedeji and Mavin’s boss, Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy. Recalled that the duo got involved in ‘Headies Drama‘, after Olamide blasted the organisers of the annual awards for not recognising his protege, Lil Kesh as the Next Rated Artiste. Don Jazzy mocked him (Olamide) by saying “Egbon Olamide, if you want the car, come and collect it”. The 2015 Headies Next Rated Artiste Award winner goes home with a Hyundai SUV car. The category was won by Don Jazzy’s boy, Reekado Banks. It seems LAWMA is the biggest winner as the punchline #leavetrashforlawma dropped by Olamide in the heat of the argument is a trending topic on the social media. And to underscore the importance of the punchline to the waste managers, they joined the conversation on Twitter with the post, “In 2016 we urge all our customers to #leavetrashforlawma use the licensed PSP operator in your area” with almost 2,000 retweets. Sterling Bank, a major partner of LAWMA also joined the conversation with the tweet, “Let’s take this opportunity to appreciate #LAWMA for their work. Supported by #SterlingBankNg. #LeaveTrashForLAWMA” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/01/leavetrashforlawma-lawma-joins-olamidedon-jazzy-tirade/ lalasticlala

A Nigerian man was caught by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Delhi airport on Thursday while allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine to Mumbai. Ten capsules concealing cocaine, weighing a total of 185-gram and worth nearly Rs.30 lakh in the international market, were seized from him, said CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh. The accused has been identified as 38-year-old Chinazor Festus Mbalughi, who was in India on a business visa valid until March next year. Mbalughi was to travel to Mumbai by an Indigo flight minutes before he was nabbed by the CISF. Officials said the accused had arrived at Terminal 1D of Indira Gandhi International Airport and was about to enter the terminal building when some CISF personnel deemed his behaviour suspicious and took him for a thorough screening of his belongings. “The screening revealed the presence of the narcotic substances wrapped in polythene and hidden in the handbag,” said the spokesperson. Mbalughi has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau. http://m.thehindu.com/news/cities/Delhi/nigerian-man-held-with-drugs-at-airport/article8030621.ece lalasticlala |

Hai authorities have seized 700 kilograms of smuggled ivory, worth around one million U.S. dollars, officials say. The elephant tusks, 289 pieces, were packed in a box which originated from Nigeria and travelled through Singapore before landed in Thailand's southern Koh Samui Customs on December 10, the Customs Department said in a statement. Authorities have now launched an investigation into the shipment and those behind it. The seizure comes as Thailand - a top destination for African ivory smuggling in Asia - is under increasing pressure to crack down on its illegal ivory trade or face sanctions under the Convention on the International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES). Much of the ivory smuggled into Thailand from other countries is turned into ornaments that are shipped to China and Vietnam to meet burgeoning demand. In January, Thailand passed new legislation to regulate and control the possession and trade of ivory. Under the law, possession of African ivory for sale in Thailand is prohibited. In April, Thai customs officials seized four tonnes of ivory worth $6 million in what the department called the largest bust of its kind in Thailand's history. Over 20,000 African elephants were killed for ivory in 2013, a CITES monitoring program showed, leaving a population believed to be around 500,00. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaSxiQIHdrM http://in.reuters.com/video/2015/12/18/thailand-seizes-1-milion-worth-of-ivory?rpc=401&videoChannel=1&feedName=TopNews&feedType=VideoRSS&videoId=366731471 |
The death sentences by firing squad passed on 66 soldiers in January and March 2015 by separate General Court Martials have been commuted to 10 years imprisonment each. It will be recalled that 71 soldiers were arraigned on several charges in joint trials. The soldiers were arraigned on several count charges that include Criminal Conspiracy, Conspiracy to commit mutiny, Mutiny, Attempt to Commit an Offence (Murder), Disobedience to Particular Orders, Insubordinate Behaviour and False Accusation, amongst others. They were tried, discharged on some charges but found guilty and convicted on other charges which included mutiny. Out of the number, 66 were found guilty on some of the count charges and sentenced to death, while 5 were discharged and acquitted and 1 was given 28 days Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL). However, following series of petitions, the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, ordered a legal review of the cases. The directive was carried out to examine the merit of each case. It was on the basis of the review and recommendations that the Chief of Army Staff commuted the death sentences of the 66 soldiers to 10 years jail term. The sentences are to run concurrently. The cases of other soldiers are being reviewed and will be made public once the appropriate reviews are completed Thank you.
