fake doctor, fake commissioner, fake lawyer, fake student, fake workers, fake engr, fake government etc all in Nigeria lalasticlala |
The long arm of the law caught up with a 44- year-old secondary school certificate holder, Martins Ugwu Okpeh, who, for nine years had been parading himself as a medical doctor and even rose to become the chairman of a branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA. Okpeh, an indigene of Ogbadibo local government area of Benue State and father of five stole copies of the medical and academic credentials of his childhood friend Dr. George Davidson, a medical doctor practising in Jos and used it to secure employment in the Federal Ministry of Health. The fake doctor continued his deceit and practised as a medical doctor and collected salaries from the ministry until the lid was blown off his scheme. An anonymous petition led the police to investigate his activities and he was paraded on Tuesday by the deputy force spokesman, CSP Abayomi Shogunle. According to Shogunle, an anonymous petition from the ministry endorsed the police analytical tracking and interception centre for discreet investigation. And “what was perceived as unprofessional conduct and unwholesome behaviour of inciting trouble and blackmailing by the selfacclaimed medical doctor Martins Ugwu Okpeh prompted an anonymous petition against him to the Federal Civil Service Commission in May 2015.” Shogunle said investigation conducted through the records available at the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria showed that the Okpeh adopted the identity of Dr. Davidson, a true medical doctor on residency training in Jos. “Martins Ugwu has been parading himself as a medical doctor in the Federal Ministry of Health in Abuja for almost one decade and was among medical volunteers trained by the ministry in conjunction with African-Union Support to Ebola Outbreak in West-Africa (ASEOWA) mission in Liberia,” Shogunle said. Confirming his involvement, Okpeh said he actually took the certificates from his friend to join the Health Ministry in order to unearth the fraud and “mess” there as an insider. “I never opted for clinical services to avoid damage that may occur, I went into administration and research. It is in the Health Services, Research and Statistics that all the fraud in the health sector is found. “I have great remorse but its my desire to save my country that pushed me into this, I have great passion for Nigeria, I participated in the Ebola mission and much more and have not even been paid. “Severally, there were biometric verifications, but I survived them, I was the NMA chairman in 2008, Federal Ministry of health, I don’t think has the mechanisms for that, the Ministry is porous,” he said. http://leadership.ng/news/445369/ex-nma-chairman-served-as-fake-medical-doctor-for-9-years |

A huge crowd of residents of Osogbo, the Osun state capital on Tuesday gathered to condemn what they described as unfair stigmatisation of the Governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola over issues of unpaid salaries. At different rallies held in different parts of the state capital, Osogbo, the residents who trooped out under different groups demanded explanation for what they called desperate moves by the opposition to capitalize on the nationwide problems of salary challenge to create mayhem in the state. Among those who trooped out were women, artisans, traders, and civil rights organizations such as the Ola Oni Centre for Good Governance, Osun State Civil Society Coalition, Committee for Democracy and Human Rights, Centre for Voters Awareness, Coalition Groups for Good Governance, Sharing Heart International, Climate and Environmental Awareness Initiative, who insisted that they must let those championing the campaigns of calumny against Aregbesola realize they are on a failed mission. From Aiyetoro area of the state capital to Old Garage Area, Olaiya and Okefia Roundabout, the pro-Aregbesola campaigners carried different placards with different inscriptions such as “Don’t stigmatise Aregbesola over unpaid salaries”, “Osun is not the only state owing workers”, “Omisore, PDP funding violence against Aregbesola’s government”, “Salary issue is a national challenge” and many others. One of those who led the rally at Olaiya, and a civil right advocate, Comrade Amitolu Shitu, while addressing the crowd, said the people of Osun must be wary of selfish politicians using the salary issues to create tension and make Aregbesola appear like an enemy of the people. Shitu said, “To the best of our knowledge, the Nigeria Labour Congress has identified at least 23 states of the federation where salaries are not paid up to date. In fact, if you look at the local government workers, Osun is one of the states owing the least number of months with the payment local government workers up till February and we are aware that even that of March is ready. There are states with up to 8 months of unpaid salaries in councils. “The same thing goes for state civil servants. Why then is this crazy stigmatization of Osun and its governor? We are here to say enough is enough.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/pro-aregbesola-rallies-in-osogbo-as-groups-decry-stigmatization-of-gov-over-salaries/

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday redeemed his promise to assist victims of recent tanker fire explosions in Iyana-Ipaja and Idimu areas of the State with the distribution of cheques to 243 victims enumerated by the State government. The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluranti Adebule at the event held at the Igando Rehabilitation Centre, Igando, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the government’s widow’s mite to rehabilitate themselves as much as they could. “We know that what government has given is not enough but with the belief that you are going to put it to judicious use, it would go a long way to help out. Please stay peaceful and remain focused”. “We want to you to go back home and rehabilitate yourself as much as you could. The good Lord would continue to be with you. We pray not to witness this kind of incidence again. We share in your feelings and urge you to continue to give your support to this administration,” he said. He urged citizens to continue to be patient and join hands with his administration, adding that the government is going to be very responsive and has already demonstrated that by the financial assistance. Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr Aderemi Desalu said from the Iyana Ipaja incident, 76 persons were recommended for financial assistance out which seven were landlords and got N500, 000 each while 64 others who were shop owners each got N150, 000, while five tricycle operators got N50, 000 each. Desalu said from the Idimu petrol tanker incident, a total of 369 were affected out of which 167 are adults. “We brought members of that community to this camp. We had a total of 369 residents including children. They have been here for one month and would be departing very soon. 167 of them are adults. We recommended N50, 000 but the Governor magnanimously doubled what we recommended. Meanwhile, a Committee set up by Governor Ambode to examine the immediate and remote causes of the petrol tanker disasters witnessed last month has submitted its report. The Committee chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello presented its report to the Governor on Tuesday at the Lagos House, Alausa Ikeja. It would be recalled that Governor Ambode in the wake of the Iyana Ipaja and Idimu petrol tanker explosion set up a fact finding committee with a charge on them to prepare guidelines for ethical conduct for tanker drivers, who were found culpable in the unfortunate incidents. The committee was also expected to engage the insurance industry and work out appropriate policies expected to protect residents of the state from havoc in future tanker incidences in the state. In the report, the Committee made far reaching recommendations to the Governor on how to prevent reoccurrence of such disasters in future. Receiving the report, Governor Ambode promised to work on the recommendations, saying that the state government will take necessary steps to protect the live and property of its citizenry. He said his administration does not subscribe to forcing down directives hence the decision to set up the committee with representatives of relevant stakeholders to fashion out preventive strategies against such occurrences. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/07/07/lagos-presents-cheques-to-iyana-ipaja-idimu-fire-tanker-victims/

The Lagos State Government says the bodies of six children who drowned in Wednesday’s boat mishap in Ojo area of Lagos, western Nigeria, have been recovered. At a news conference in Alausa, Ikeja on Thursday, Managing Director, Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, Yinka Marinho disclosed that three of the bodies were recovered yesterday and three today. According to him, eight of the 14 children survived the tragedy as six unfortunately died, adding that what happened was that a Motorised Boat rammed into a canoe carrying the children to school when the motorised boat developed a fault midway in the water around Irewe, Ojo. He explained that the operator of the boat was trying to fix the problem as his boat stopped in the water when it rammed into the canoe despite shouts by the children. Marinho disclosed that the captain of the motorised boat has been arrested and detained at the Railway Police Station. He lamented that the passengers in the boat were not wearing life jackets despite the fact that the government had distributed 3,500 life jackets to boat operators. He said the state’s 53 water terminals where all registered boats must take off, adding that no boat operator must leave the terminal without its passengers wearing life jackets. He said there were life guards stationed in the waterways to ensure that the waterways law were obeyed. Marinho said many canoes plying the waterways, especially those from riverine communities, were not among those to be monitored by LASWA, which was why many of them did not use life jackets. He said government did not have enough manpower to monitor them, adding that since many people did not ply such areas, much attention was not always paid to them, but noted that government would now pay attention to monitoring them. Marinho further disclosed that in the next few weeks, another set of 2,400 life jackets would be distributed to boat operators while another set of 1,800 would be distributed for the use of school children in riverine areas. He stated that in the next few days, the authority would comb riverine areas of the state to take a census of school children to know the number of life jackets to be provided for them. Marinho added that government would ensure that the use of the life jackets were monitored with appropriate sanctions meted out to violators. General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu appealed to those using the waterways to always wear life jacket in order to minimise death. Director General, Lagos Safety Commission, Odebunmi Domingo vowed that the government would enforce the law and ensure that people using the waterways always wear life jackets. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/07/02/boat-mishap-lagos-recovers-bodies-of-6-dead-children/ Lalasticlala |
