Secondly, there are 39,000 lecturers in Nigerian federal owned Universities. Out of this number, only 8, 501 lecturers enrolled nationwide as at the day, the consultants sent to the Universities by IPPIS office returned to Abuja. So, over 30,000 lecturers are with ASUU on this struggle.
Thirdly, the University autonomy act, is a creation of the National Assembly and duly accented to by the president in 2010, if you desire to abrogate or amend the same provisions, its logically and legally expected that you follow the due processes.
Fourthly, the University is an ivory tower that harbours the best and highest human capital. It's not as easy as some of you readily claim that FG should fire them and hire a new set of lecturers. If I may ask, hire from where? We don't even have enough lecturers in core sciences, engineering, medicine, nursing, environmental courses and even some of the humanity and art subjects. Fifthly, there is serious brain drain in the Universities. Lecturers are moving in droves in search of green pastures in other sectors and abroad. Among the University academics, not less than 90% were recruited with either 1st class or second class upper (2.1). Is this criteria always the yardstick for performance? No of course? Why would you keep a 1st class certificate holder that can not teach? Do you throw out a second lower that is the backbone of the department? Most of the first class only use academic as a leverage to move abroad and will never come back. What happened to situation where a student is able to buy his marks all through the University and became a 1st class?
