It's probably better to rent and have a feel of Edmonton to know if it's works for you and have enough time to make informed decision on buying. Apartments of $1400-1500 in Edmonton was $2,200-$2800 when I was in Toronto.
I usually recommend SW(South) it's safer, newer neighborhood, easy drive to anywhere in Edmonton via Henday HW.

Based on my little experience, Some people usually get this if they have already studied the subjects taught in their proposed program. The VO believes that it is not the right progression of study.

My advice is to apply for the GCMS note first. Do not worry too much about this, I know someone that got this at first and later applied with a good SOP and got the visa.

Bro, you made a good point, but I also disagree with some of your post.

You need to know that a specific visa office has a maximum amount of visas they can issue in a year, and that why they keep pushing the processing time to meet the flw year based on high applications. Using Nairobi, Lagos and london as an example as you’ve mentioned. Nairobi processes about three to four different countries application. Lagos processes only few Nigerian apps. London processes about three different countries including the uk. With london there won’t be so much applications can’t compare the amount of application going Nairobi and that’s why the success rate is higher than Nairobi.

The only reason why is it easier to apply from the US is because there isn’t much study permit application coming from the us compared to African countries.

And also for temporary visa app like study or work in countries like China and India is that their country influenced those decision, and that is why they have more success rate that we Nigerians.
I bet with you, if the Nigerian government can look into this study permit app based on high refusal rate, CIC will adjust.

I read somewhere recently that the Senegalese government made an agreement with the Quebec government as a francophone nation and that was why senegal was the first African country to included in the Student direct Stream.

I have read other people's input as regards this ur post, and I can say I cant agree less.. But to me from my observation from last year ,the problem is the Nairobi Visa officers, I have this feeling they personally hate Nigeria applicants. Since when they have been in charge of study permit applications from Nigeria, we have seen very little rate of approval... For those of us that have been on this thread for over 1 year, we all know even when London and LAGOS were giving approvals anyhow like water then, these same Nairobi demons(Yes I call them demons cos they dnt have Joy) will still refuse any application dt comes their way, even if the application is super tight... Am not surprised of the rate of refusals now, immediately I learnt late last year that Nairobi will be in charge of Nigeria study permit, I knew we were in for it.. Since ma presence on this thread for over 2 years, I have never seen the rate of study permit refusals in this manner, and this is simply because the DEMONS themselves are in charge.. They only approve 1 application in like 20 applications.. I just pray the incoming Prime minister will be kind enough to do something about it, cos if not then it can only get worse... God help us.. I was also interested in your application. Three years back my brother applied for a study permit in the uk and he got rejected twice for both purpose of visit and immigration status, he later went back to Nigeria and applied for the third time and he got it. With the uk new immigration policy, you’re in the right path. You can always migrate in the future. Goodluck to you bro .

Lol after 11 weeks of waiting. I applied from London in July. I just finished my BSc in the UK. I had a first class too. A first class in Software Engineering at 19 and I was going for an OBJECT ORIENTED SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT programme for 8 months. More like a specialised vocational training programme. You’re right, but this information is not entirely true. I can tell you that more than 40% of Nigerians with study permit end up seeking asylum. With study permit, it is easy to become a resident, but some Nigerians prefer to drop out of school and seek asylum for reasons best known to them, be it financial or because they knew someone that did the same and was granted resident status. I have met quite a few.

Hi, I don't know the source of this your information. Absolutely, there has been recent high rate of refusal to study permit applications in Africa especially Nigerian even my brother & family friend were both denied 2 weeks ago. Majority of the asylum seekers are Nigerians with US visit visa B1/B2 using US to come to Canada boarder seeking for asylum and NOT study permit holders. With study permit, u are practically almost a resident, it's just a matter of time to transit into PR status. BTW, I live in Canada��, I have credible info to this assertion.

I have seen cases where a study permits were approved with an active EE profile. And I also have a friend that was initially refused because of his EE profile. Yes, Canada allows dual intent, but you guys need to understand that when it comes to canada immigration, no two cases are the same.

Speaking from experience, I applied for my study permit when my EE profile was active and my permit was granted. In addition, my hubby also got his work permit approved at the same time.

I understand that Canada operate a Dual Intent Policy that allows you to apply for a study permit or tourist visa while you have an active EE profile. The policy allows them to take decisions independently.

My view though, gurus in the house can correct me if I'm wrong.

The processing time when I applied was either 12 or 14 weeks. I think it was 14weeks.

It will surely end in praise brother. What I understand about this whole app is that, even if your medical reads passed one week after submitting your application. You won’t get a decision until after or close to the processing time as of when you applied. I stand to be corrected though !

Application was made when processing week was 13weeks and the application is now13weeks old but the new processing time is 24weeks for Naija.

Yes, I don’t think one will get a notification when they start eligibility check and for medical passed. I received no notifications, I just login and I saw it.

Bro, the passport was submitted last week Monday August 26. I just checked the status now oo. The application was approved today September 3. That means the counterfoil has been placed on her passport. I could see the document number.

For SOWP, if your spouse is working under Noc O A or B, it is not mandatory for you to show funds except your spouse is a currently studying. If you want to show it that’s up to you, it will just add as a positive point to the VO.

Personally, I don’t like the idea of doing medicals before submitting an app, but submitting it will make your application faster. I believe both ways are fine.

My wife is currently a PR and working but I want to submit a SOWP considering the long processing time it takes for PR sponsorship.

Will I need to submit bank statement/pay slips as well? I can't see anything on bank statement/pay slips on the document checklist.

LICO is not usually considered for Sowp applications.

I can’t really say about 2000 a month, but if your annual income is equal or more than the LICO than you’re fine whether it is part time or full time.

Even if you don’t have any funds in your account, but a valid source of income as a host then you’re fine.

Do you think having a good job with good pay (Part time) as the host in Canada also solidifies the financial part of the SOWP application? (e.g A host receiving close to $2000 a month)

Or do they just consider how much the principal applicant declares as proof of funds?

Bro, the processing time when I applied was 14 weeks. My spouse app just clock 16weeks today. I sent a webform to Lagos and Nairobi last Thursday though, Still no update yet. I spoke to an IRCC agent on phone today. She said she can’t give me update on my spouse app due to privacy laws. She sent me a consent form to fill and sign with her , so as to be able to have access to her application.

The thing don tire me self as she go soon deliver very soon.

Just want to state that your wife should be able to do her Xray with the use of a shield, so it doesn't delay her SOWP. There are several high-end hospitals that have the shield including the ones recommended by CIC in Ikoyi, Lagos... (can't remember the exact name...something Consultants)

I can't respond to your question about not misinterpreting intent, but if you decide to go ahead with the tourism route, I would advise that you add a strong and convincing LOE stating why you want your wife to be with you during childbirth and why she can't do an xray, and how you have the capacity to pay for her medical expenses (using the guidelines stated in this thread) plus the fact that she will return to Nigeria after her maternity leave is over, pending the completion of her other application.

Above all...commit it all to GOD and pray that HIS will be done!
