Save for his on-going probe by the PDP government in Rivers State and media assaults by Governor Nyesom Wike, the nomination of ex-Governor Rotimi Amaechi for a ministerial position was taken for granted. Amaechi bore a suicidal risk to dump the PDP to pitch tent with Buhari even before the APC stakeholders zeroed in on the General as their presidential standard bearer. He laid down his life to ensure that Buhari emerged the APC candidate. In the heat of the campaign, a former governor told Amaechi: “I would have died by now if I take this kind of risk you have heaped on yourself.” Beyond being a die-hard loyalist of Buhari, the qualities which earned Amaechi the ministerial nomination are his performance records, vision and energy to render untainted service and ability to speak truth to the throne. He, will no doubt, be one minister who can tell Buhari the truth whenever he errs. His greatest asset is his love for quality projects which can stand the test of time. He has no taste for wealth acquisition, a personage which makes him fit into Buhari’s agenda.
http://thenationonlineng.net/ministerial-list-the-politics-the-intrigues/ ' His greatest asset is his love for quality projects which can stand the test of time' I don't just support Amaechi sheepishly, it was his qualities that endanger him to me and his several admirers. no amount of propaganda can ever efface the top notch performance of this young man in Rivers state. from education, health, infrastructure, job creation/youths empowerment, Agriculture, security, resource management to rural development. he was an all rounder governor and arguably the best governor that have ever ruled Rivers. |

NOC1: The political tussle in Rivers state has taken another dimension with the immediate past Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has daring his successor, Nyesom Wike, to take him to court if he possess any evidence of graft against him.
Recall that Wike had made several corruption allegations against the former governor who is rumoured to be on the highly awaited ministerial list of ‘President Muhammadu Buhari.
Amaechi is among the 22 members on Nigeria’s delegation to the 70th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.
“Let him (Wike) prove it in court. Tell him I said he should go to court. I have a wonderful reputation and I challenge Wike; he will not destroy that reputation. I won’t let him destroy it. He doesn’t have that kind of reputation; he will never have that kind of reputation,” he told Nation.
He added further; “It is not enough for a panel to indict a man. If Eze Wike wants to fight me, let him go to court. He keeps saying I’m a thief; but let him show me one property. …He knows I know. So, if he has evidence, why hasn’t he put it out to the public? My children are proud of me. They say I’m one of the most honest Nigerians they know.” Amaechi said he had no house in Port Harcourt because he could not afford to build one.
“When I say I don’t have a house in Port Harcourt, Wike would say it’s an irresponsible man that doesn’t have a house in his own village.
“He won’t ask: ‘Do you have money to build a house?’ I thought he would have attacked me that I have money. I just didn’t build a house. He won’t ask me how much my salary was as (House of Assembly’s) Speaker.”
Amaechi also took a swipe at former president Goodluck Jonathan stressing that President Muhammadu Buhari had got more support than former President Godluck Jonathan ever did.
“The level of corruption in that era was so bad that we couldn’t pay salaries. As the governor of Rivers State, my allocation was reduced from N25 billion to about N6 billion. But the Buhari administration is here to save Nigeria.
“At the General Assembly, we had a lot of respect. We chose who to see and who not to see. Before, no one wanted to see us.”
He added that despite Nigeria missing a key meeting about Boko Haram and the President almost missing the Pope, “This is one of the best. Although this is my first time as a delegate to the UN, I have gone to other parts of the world with the former president. The way president Buhari is being treated is not the same way President Goodluck was treated. Huge respect for a man of honor and integrity, as against our former president. So you can’t compare, you can’t. I’m leaving here very proud to be a Nigerian.”
Recall that PDP in Rivers state has replied to the Rotimi Amaechi, former state governor, suit against the party. Amaechi had sued the PDP, its chairman and two others over claims that he (Amaechi) misappropriated $758m (N80bn) belonging to the state while in office Wike oya over to you to you |

should he had been an academics and a prof I would have suggested minister of Education. I love good governance and I would love all the primary/secondary schools in Nigeria to be like the ones in Rivers____ the schools which earn the state the UN world book capital the feat no sub Saharan African city have ever achieved. he built over 500 hundred in the state, may be he would build over 36x500 or 18,000 for Nigeria.

If he had been a professor in economics I would have suggested minister of finance because while in Rivers he carried out massive infrastructural projects without plunging the state in debt. At a particular time he even saved over N19b for the rainy days. also while leaving office he left with the fg owing the state over N105b whereas the states' external debt was less than a half of that money
well outside those implausible permutations, I suggest minister of works. his penchant for quality infrastructure such as schools, Health centers, Roads, Housing estates, Olympic stadium complex , etc. could well put him in a vintage position to perform very well. Minister of Niger Delta is my favourite slot for him. We still need him around to continue his developmental stride in the region
I love you my Amiable ex governor
The good people(not the bad ones like the militants, thugs, dey gbam and dey well ) of the Niger Delta region love you
we are solidly behind you
congratulation in advance

ehissi: Well informed opinions are a product of information/ facts not fictions nor sentiments!!
All of you here mudslinging and calling wike names freely and with ease will never do so if wike was your father; no matter how much you love rivers state nor how long you have lived in rivers state nor how well suited to the discussion your house is in Rivers state nor how much of a crook the fellow is??
The same applies if you are opposed to wike or his or tribe or his political dynasty either by personal opinion or social clime or maybe you are from a different political party/inclination to his; the tendency is to never find anything good in wike to say.
So the intelligent and discerning/educated mind has to listen to one or both sides of the story and get the facts and get a grasp of the situation on ground; whether you live in rivers or not doesn't denigrate the facts and neither does calling anyone names, that just betrays your age, level of education and temperament!!
One person in this thread has said that the schools are just primary schools but none of you opposed to wike are choosing to confirm or deny it!
None of you are telling me governments position on the matter; none of you even seem to give a glimpse or a hint of the framework and financial transactions relating to the contracts around these school before wike and now nor show basic understanding of what ideally government policy should be relating to primary education (at least that way we can be shown that wike is breaking a law); but you know that wike is a crook??
That's a very un-intelligent line of argument even for an adult much less a child; at the worst it is seemingly un-intelligent, at best sentimental!!
You are not a government spokesperson; neither have you given me facts that explain why he is owing! All you folks seem to say is that wike is owing; which isn't new!!
So what is new?? He is owing, has he denied the debt, has he said he won't pay?
At least I am aware that wike had in times past accused the past government of accruing debts to which amaechi denied now it has reared it head here that he was owing contractors?? Contractors handling world class schools; that may or may not probably charge world class fees!!
So please, let stick to the facts!! If at all you have a bias or don't particularly like a public figure; you are welcome to express it; you don't owe anyone an explanation neither will you be vilified for it! Its freedom of expression but at least stick to the facts when allegation like this are raised!!
I don't particularly like wike as such but, sentiments can never take the place of facts!!
Plus this is a fora, its meant for epistles, it makes for an interesting read; you want short notes try bbm or 2go chatrooms!!! ***yawns*** you 2like long things we dey say wike no fit maintain childurenu sukulu make dem 4 start suku and u dey here dey yawn Ukpatha |

dandollaz: APC in rivers have surrended to wike because of his achiements so far until he prove otherwise.i give credit to ameachi in education and health sector but he performed poorly in other area. you call those open gutter substandard road achievement? did Amaechi construct any open gutter drainage road in Rivers?. go to D-line, Oruworokwo, etc, and see how standard inner street roads are being constructed.
Amaechi touched and had a top notch performance in every area of governance. Job creatio and human capital development ( unprecedentedly employed at a go over 13,000 teachers and over 400 doctors to man his beautiful schools and health centers. in infrastructure: He revolutionalised infrastructure in Rivers state. Anybody living in Rivers state and really know the state very well will recall that Rivers state as a whole barely has five dualised road before the inception of Amaechi’s administration. But the story has change as we have lost count of the number of high quality dualised road with underground drainage and pedestrian walk ways in the state. Several fly over and bridges were constructed. Inner street construction was taken to another level with underground drainages and pedestrian walk way. Check out the infrastructure in Rainbow town initiative started by the Amaechi’s administration where we have clusters of several up rise building that are almost in completion stage. How about the greater PH where modern city infrastructure is being constructed( Roads, underground utility system, etc) , Olympic sports complex of international standard with modern state of the art basket ball court (two), Olympic standard aquarium (Two), Fifa standard football pitch (40,000 capacity second largest in the country after Abuja stadium), volley court, etc. In agriculture the Songhai initiative, Banana plantation, cassava plantation, etc in security we all know that he single handedly brought peace and decorum to the state my brother Amaechi did a lot in Rivers that's why I will never stand anybody disparage the person of that amiable young man |
Politics › Re: Weeds And Grasses Take Over Amaechi's Beautiful Schools In Rivers by drshrewd(op): 3:22pm On Sep 15, 2015 |
ehissi: Well the thread topic never pointed to Primary schools it just says beautiful schools in rivers so I assumed that they were public secondary schools!!
And yes primary school pupils at the higher classes of primary 5 and 6 can be brought in to give the school a face lift either as a disciplinary measure or as a Civil education stratagem; also I believe either demdem or a Nairalander used the words "Resorting to self-help" somewhere in a comment meaning its possible for kids to be involved!!
I gave my comment with a clear indication that the position of the Wike Administration is unknown and as such it will be wiser to here his side of the impasse before breaking legs, heads and hearts jumping to conclusions!!
But if you do have more details on the issue, then enlighten us more so that we can have a grasp of what's going all!!
Are the "Amaechi World Class Schools" only primary as your post suggests or both primary and secondary??
If they are primary, then the entire thread was raised in error as Basic education i.e. Public Primary education is the exclusive preserve of the local government with government offering a supporting role (I believe the ratio should be either 60% for local and then 40% for the state)!! Wike shouldn't be the target of this, if its primary schools shown here, its the local government that should be called to answer!!
Or am I getting things wrong?
In any case; I am diligently watching this thread for a comment stating the official statement of the wike administration on this issue (and not sentiments); lest we fall into the hands of upcoming, disgruntled politicians desperate to make end meet!!
We as Nigerians should watch and learn; tomorrow some of you may be local government chairman, senators or even governors; so it pays to be wise and objective when review government policies or body language on issues that way you have a well rounded education!!! mr epistle I know you don't reside in Rivers to really understand the cruse of this discussion. those schools are world class with world class facilities such as Football pitch, basket ball court, farm yard, garden, etc. these facilities need to be maintained by professionals and not kids as you suggested.Amaechi has made Rivers State gone past that level and never in the dispensation of the former governor has those schools been in this pretty mess condition |
