Tareq1105: They get it through some unscrupulous Bank officials involved in round tripping and arbitrage, and through some returnees who arrived from abroad.
Most of the BDC are not registered.
BDC operators are no longer allowed to be hanging around.
They're to:
Get registered,
Recapitalize to #2b,
Get license,
Get a registered office address,
Stay in your office not roaming about,
Wait for customers in your office,
Keep records of your operations for Audit purposes,
Take BVN / Int'l passport Data page / NIN of every customer,
Complete a Request Form where purpose of buying or selling of dollars would be stated,
Pay their dollar or Naira (as the Case may be) into their local bank account or domiciliary account (not cash),
If traveling abroad, you only get $500 cash while balance of BTA for $4,500 would be cashed when you get to your destination.
Registered BDC operators have computerized their operations now (it's in the new CBN regulations),
BDC operations be linked with regular banking operations,
Submit your operation records for CBN inspections twice monthly.
This is what CBN is simply asking for. No reasonable president would sit down and watch his currency being destroyed by speculators.
Operators hanging on the road would be arrested and charged for economic sabotage. If you want to travel, don't stand on the road, enter the motor park. I agree with the required changes to their operations. I can think of no other country where the black market operates so brazenly. The naira is under attack from speculators. Couple that with the CBN's previous actions and you get this situation you are in. |

Think9ja: What is their offense?
Is it that they didn't pay custom duty or because they wanted to export it?
I do not care if the entire country is dying of hunger and starvation, if there is a higher bidder in Niger, I will export my goods to Niger to sell.
Anybody that is hungry should go and farm like other people are doing.
For decades, we've bastardized farming and farmers, seeing it as what only poor and illiterate people should do. It's either we all go back to farming, or we allow the farmers sell to the highest bidder from any part of the world.
Just now that it's their time to start cashing out, it's become an issue.
Let the farmers breath You do realise that Niger and Nigeria are not on peaceful terms currently. Sometimes do not let emotions drive you to talk but reason as well. |

It's not even about Tinubu, or Atiku or obi, it's about the system. If the system of governance in Nigeria is not changed or reformed. Things wld keep getting worse.
Have anyone noticed that the previous administration is always better in Nigeria. Things keep getting worse after each administration. One consistent thing is the civil service at all levels. |

If you check deep down you will discover your father was instrumental to your success. He gave you shelter, security and food, moreso he made you know how to be man by not giving you everything The father failed in his duties. This child succeeded in spite of the disadvantage the father gave him. It is one thing if the father didn't have. |

Family › Re: How Do I Clear This Guilt Against My Dad? by Druss(m): 6:20pm On Jan 23, 2024 |
Mercylike: Growing up with my family, I grew up not liking my dad but liking my mother so much that I can go to the extreme for her. It all started like this;
While we were growing, my dad having like 2 wives never really cared about us. Not even our steps siblings who are older than us. Their own even worse, they struggled and worked hard to get what the want with little or no help from our dad. Except for 1 or 2 out of 7 of them, the rest stopped at secondary school (public). My dad had no intention of being responsible for them.
Back to myself and my brother which are the only kids my mom gave my dad, he never still feels responsible.
Throughout my primary, secondary and tertiary years, I can't pinpoint one time that my dad bought sandal, cloth or anything for us. The only drug my dad has ever bought for us when we are seriously sick is paracetamol, even if we have serious sickness, he doesn't care. All he does is to call my mother to come take care of us (my mother doesn't stay fully with us because it won't even be convenient in such house with step mom but whenever she comes, she could spend a week).
Infact he was un-interested in sending us to school but thanks to my MOTHER. Though she didn't read well as she stopped as primary 5 or so but she said that she vow that she will train her children to school if they are ready to learn. Myself and my bro were ready to learn and my mom entered debts just to make sure we go to school. I could remember giving up when I gained admission, my dad already told us that he didn't send us to go to school ooo. I didn't know how my mother did it, she came home and gave me the acceptance fee and school fees with some other money. ( I cried before and after the incident, I don't know how this woman got this money but I'm sure she took loan).
Sometimes our step mom gets jealous thinking it was my dad that was doing those efforts for us but never did she know that all was my mom. I won't deny, dad contributed little but it was by force, begging his friends to plead to him to pay part of our school fee and all. But he is always boisterous of the fact that his sons are in school and all which angers me to see him boast with me especially.
Till now, I still don't feel responsible for my dad well-being. I have tried adjusting myself to loving him well but I can't. I just like him and respect him as a father but for my mom, I will do anything for her. I will go hungry for her, I will starve for her.
Nairalanders, it's being like 3 or 4 years I went to see my dad even though his place is not too far from me. He has been calling me several times that he wants to see me but I have always told him that I don't have time.
My problem is, my dad has never changed.. He is always concerned about himself, all he ask is money. He hardly calls to check up, except when he need money. Since I started working, I have never defaulted in sending him money every month but I send my mother 3 times or even 4 times what I send my dad. After all, he has our step brothers and sisters he can always ask for money. So I don't really care about him.
One statement he usually makes since we were small "Go and meet your mother". He doesn't feel responsible for our needs, all na our mother. Though he gives us daily feeding while we were growing and living under him but thanks to my mother that pays food vendors around to give us food whenever we are hungry because my dad doesn't give us enough.
Many stories but I can't say all...
Nairalanders, I still feel guilty as to why I don't like him. It feels like I have not forgiven him but to be honest, I have no issue with him.
How can I free myself from this guilt? I sympathise with you on your experience. Forgiving him doesn't mean that you give him everything he asks or that you have to like him. Only give what you can. It is good that you do somethings for him. |

As usual, those that have issues with this man will come and insult him. Those who don't have issues will not insult him.
A man prophesies to people that their colleagues will come to them for food. There is more than one way to look at this prophecy. I refuse to throw insults at a person because of such statements. It is unbecoming of a gentleman.
Also note that I have heard his man preach at times and he is very consistent that people must work and study hard to be successful. |

Seun: Fellow Nairalanders,
I hereby declare a total war against name checkers on Nairaland.
Anyone who draws attention to the tribe of a criminal on a thread about a crime will be banned. This applies regardless of whether they do it overtly or covertly. Every offender will collect a ban because this is regarded as a tribal insult.
The minimum ban period is 14 days. If you have offended multiple times, it's 30 days. If you keep offending, you may be permanently banned.
- Seun Osewa.
PS: I've just made a communication breakthrough with the moderators on this issue. I expect results. About time. For those of us seeking such moves in other areas. The journey is not a day's work. One step at a time. The twin ugliness of tribalism and ethnic baiting should be combatted and met head on. Zero Tolerance. |
