OPPO is one of the top 5 smartphone brands in the world and have just commenced operations in Nigeria. At a media hangout last Saturday, to which Nigeria's foremost tech blog was invited, the OPPO Nigeria team spoke about their plans. Here is an excerpt from Mister Mo's report on MobilityArena.com: The brand’s PR and marketing team repeatedly made it clear that they are looking to differentiate by ensuring that OPPO phones stand out own as classy lifestyle devices. An official statement from the team states that the “brands worthy of being compared to OPPO in the Nigerian market are Apple, Samsung and Huawei only”. So, OPPO Nigeria are categorically not after the same market as TECNO, Infinix, itel, and other brands targeting the budget segment of the market are after. They are playing with the other big boys. 9mobile’s troubles may not be over yet, as Adrian Wood and Teleology Holdings move to withdraw from the takeover deal. But the situation isn’t as serious as it looks. It has been tough times since Etisalat’s financial troubles blew up in 2017, leading to the withdrawal of Etisalat International and the re-branding to 9mobile. Since then, Nigeria’s 4th mobile operator has lost over 5 million subscribers till date. In a long drawn out slug-fest that pit a number of contenders, including finalists Airtel, Globacom, Helios, Smile, and Teleology against one another, it was the consortium of local and foreign investors known as Teleology Nigeria Ltd that won the final bid. Teleology Holdings is a company promoted by pioneer MTN Nigeria CEO, Adrian wood. It has a minority stake in Teleology Nigeria Ltd, the winner of the 9mobile bid. But then, the plot took a new turn: in January 2019, Teleology Holdings, the company that had courted and fought tooth and nail to get the bride, was reported to be backing out of the deal. In a move that took the public by storm, Wood resigned from the boards of both 9mobile and Teleology Nigeria Ltd. Read more from Mister Mobility's article

Nigeria's pioneer and foremost tech blogger, Mister Mobility, got an invitation to attend the 20th anniversary of the country's leading mobile retail chain, Slot Systems. He tells the story. Excerpt below: "I resumed at the office on the 10th of December to find an invitation to the company’s 20th year anniversary event. It was one I couldn’t miss. And so it was that on the 16th of December 2018, I headed out to the Landmark Event Centre at Victoria Island to be a part of the celebration. I ran into Mr. Ezeigbo just right after I walked into the hall and had the pleasure of personally congratulating him. Thereafter, I found a seat and made myself comfortable. The ambience was lovely. Good old school music was blaring from the loudspeakers, and bottles were popping already. Getting comfortable was easy. Food followed not long after. What is a party without good food? As a matter of fact, when the Ooni of Ife arrived and was ushered in, my hands were busy and so I could not capture his grand entrance. But my hands freed up eventually (the food was quickly devoured) and I got a photo of the Onirisa giving his speech at the event. Read more: Celebrating Nnamdi Ezeigbo and Slot Systems at 20

[quote author=Ayebaeapretai post=73340761]Snapdragon 8150 is the successor to the Snapdragon 845 chipset seen in many of the flagships released in 2018. That means that the SD 8150 will be Qualcomm’s flagship chipset for most of 2019. For non-technical people, think of the processor/chipset in a smartphone as you will the engine in an automobile. The processor is the powerhouse of any computing device, including your PC, laptop and smartphone. The more powerful the chip, the more powerful the device, all other things being equal. The Snapdragon 8150 (SD 8150) Chipset The Snapdragon 8150 chipset will have 8 cores, i.e. Octa-core, structured as follows: a cluster of 4 low-power Kryo Silver cores, running at about a maximum frequency of 1.8GHz, a second cluster of 3 medium-power Kryo Gold cores, running at a maximum frequency of 2.4GHz, a single top-tier Kryo Gold core with a maximum frequency of 2.8Ghz. Adreno 640 is the bundled GPU. There are some other technical details, but most consumers will find them as easy to understand as Klingon. Do you understand Klingon? Can you speak it? I didn’t think so. The important thing to note is that if you want the most smartphones in 2019, look for those that have the SD8150 chipset inside. When will we see Snapdragon 8150-powered smartphones? Most likely, 2019. The chances of seeing the SD 8150 chipset in a 2018 phone are next to zero, as December 4, 2018 is the launch date./quote] Original article source: MobilityArena.com |

After MobilityArena published their list of the cheapest 4G phones in Nigeria in 2018, Mister Mobility got a request asking if he could do a follow-up of 4G mobile phones under N70000 and that had at least 3GB RAM. He accepted to have it done. And so MobilityArena has short-listed fourteen smartphones that meet that criteria. All of them offer 4G LTE support and all of them, except for one, have 3GB RAM. With 4GB RAM, the lone exception is a bargain at its price. If you are already salivating, let's spare you the anticipation and dive right right into the list. It is a fairly long one though. There are 14 of them and the price range is wide - all the way up from NGN29,000. Find out the 14 phones that make the list here: Fourteen 4G mobile phones under N70000 with 3GB RAM

The mobile sector in Nigeria has been one of the country’s most vibrant, but for a long time, Nigerian apps were not raking in appreciable numbers. Foreign apps like Facebook, Blackberry Messenger, 2Go and others, were the ones with visibility. Eventually, Nigerian bank apps took off too, registering hundreds of thousands and millions of downloads and installs. The other sectors were largely left behind. But this is 2018, and a lot has changed. Banks are not the only Nigerian apps hitting the big numbers any more. The question is, which apps have hit the big stage, and what sectors do they belong to? Mister Mobility breaks it down: How well are Nigerian apps doing in 2018? We compare the numbers |

Mister Mobility got his hands on the special edition of the itel S13 and got a surprise unboxing it. The itel S13 reminds us of the itel P32. How are they similar? They both have a FullView Display with same 5.5-inch screen size, they both run Android Oreo Go Edition, and they both have the same chipset, RAM and storage capacities. They also have the same 5MP + 5MP rear dual camera. Talk about similarities. But they have a few differences, which we will discuss in our full review. For now, we unbox and pass along our first impressions. Our itel S13 unit comes in a lovely Champagne box with a window that displays the back of the S13. The included unit is Bordeaux Red. Just below that window, you will find the words “Special Edition” engraved on the box. And though I have reviewed hundreds of phones in my career, the S13's packaging managed to catch me off guard. I wasn’t expecting a mirror in a smartphone’s sales box, but there it was. One can easily convert the box into a cosmetic box, you know. The ladies will surely love this. The phone itself is Bordeaux Red in colour and reminds us of the itel P32 in many ways. Read up some more in MobilityArena's itel S13 unboxing and hands-on review.
