PhonesItel S32 Hands-on Review And Photos By Mobilityarena by dsnet(op): 9:03pm On Oct 21, 2017
At itel's 10th year anniversary event, the MobilityArena team had the opportunity to spend some time with the S12 and S32. We were particularly interested in seeing the 2017 flagship of the brand, itel S32, for ourselves. And we did. We got a few photos too. I hope you enjoy our itel S32 hands-on review. Do read on for the details.

itel S32 hands-on review

itel S32 has a 5.5-inch display. The display is a ground breaker for itel though. It has 2.5D curved glass, and once we held it in our hands, we could feel the difference. The display is smooth and nice, plus the rear of the device has a brushed metal look and feel to it.

What itel has done with the S32 is add a more premium feel than we have ever seen on any other itel smartphone.

PhonesFirst Impressions And Photos Of Infinix Note 4 Pro From Mobilityarena by dsnet(op): 8:08am On Aug 25, 2017
Mister Mo’s first impressions of the Infinix Note 4 Pro is that it is a much more beautiful and solidly built device than the Note 4 is. Here are his initial thoughts.

We have had the Infinix Note 4 visit us here at MobilityArena. You can see the specifications HERE and our review HERE. While the Note 4 is reliable, it is not a smartphone that wows. For the wow factor, the Pro version is exactly what the doctor ordered. In place of the polycarbonate shell is a beautifully crafted metal shell.

Unboxing the Infinix Note 4 Pro was an orgasmic experience. Forgive me, but dropping the Note 4 for the Note 4 Pro was quite a jolt – and a very positive one for that matter. The latter is an infinitely more beautiful device. With a 5.7-inch display, it s big, but it doesn’t feel wieldy the way the Note 4 does. And the crafting of the metal unibody is nice.

PhonesWhy Glo’s 700 Mhz LTE Band Is Not A Bad Thing by dsnet(op): 3:39pm On Aug 20, 2017
Globacom launched its mobile 4G service in Nigeria on the 700 MHz LTE band. Subscribers are not happy but Glo’s LTE band is not a bad thing. Mister Mo explains.

From Broadcast To Mobile Broadband

Before now, the 700 MHz spectrum was allocated to the broadcast industry. Some years ago, the IT world began to push for governments to make the 700 Mhz band available for mobile broadband instead. For example, the European Commission fixed a 2020 deadline for moving broadcasters out of the spectrum. A few countries like France and Germany have made the switch ahead of that deadline.

Outside of Europe, a number of other countries, for example Canada, have reclassified the spectrum from broadcast to mobile broadband.

Why Are 700 MHz LTE Band Smartphones Rare?

Because the 700 MHz band has only been recently been allocated to mobile broadband, it means that manufacturers are only just making smartphones that support the spectrum. Of course, this depends on the markets that the new spectrum has been deployed for use.

You may be wondering why not a lot of smartphones by Chinese brands support the spectrum. China’s authorities decided that the country’s 700MHz frequencies will not be available for reallocation before 2020. As such, there is little incentive for the vast majority of Chinese smartphone makers to equip their devices with 700 MHz LTE support. Only the brands with international operations in countries where 700 MHz networks exist have a motivation to do so.

PhonesGionee A1 Review By Mobilityarena by dsnet(op): 4:21pm On Jun 14, 2017
The Gionee A1 was love at first sight for us. It is such a beautiful phone and has such respectable specs that we fell in love immediately. And when we got an opportunity to get our hands on one, we jumped at it. We have used it extensively for over a month now and have our review ready.

Gionee A1 Review: Quick Pros And Cons
Gionee markets it as a super selfie and super battery smartphone. As such, it is understandable if it is judged by how well its selfie camera and battery perform. The A1 has a front-facing camera that has superior specs to its rear camera. Before we dive into the review proper, let’s kick off with a concise list of the major pros and cons of the device.

Key Features
- Beautiful design and solid, premium build .
- Selfie camera is quite good
- It lets you peg network mode any way you like it
- Solid battery life with 18W quick charge

Cons
- Sometimes heats up a lot while charging.

The full review is over 1,000 words long with pictures. Read it here: Gionee A1 review: Super selfie and Super battery on point

PhonesRe: Infinix S2 Pro Is The World's 1st Phone With Dual Front Camera - Check It Out! by dsnet: 9:16pm On Apr 09, 2017
The Infinix S2 Pro is certainly not the first phone in the world with dual front camera.

For starters, there is the Lenovo Vibe S1 which we have reviewed at Mobility Arena. It has dual front cameras – one 8 megapixels and the other 2 megapixels. The Vibe S1 has been in the market since November 2015.

Other phones with dual front cameras include: LG V10 (released in October 2015), and the more recent VIVO V5 Plus, and OPPO F3 Plus.

PhonesSamsung Galaxy S8 Hands-on Review: Drop-dead Gorgeous | Mobility Arena by dsnet(op): 2:05pm On Mar 31, 2017
We got our hands on a pre-sale unit of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. And so, we bring you our first impressions and hands-on photos. Our conclusion: the S8 is a drool-worthy, drop-dead gorgeous smartphone. But we know you want the full gist; don’t you? Enjoy our Samsung Galaxy S8 hands-on review and photos.

Samsung Galaxy S8 hands-on Review: Curved screen
The display is curved at the edges just like on the LG G6. Aspect ratio of the display makes the S8 very handy. Even though the display is 5.8 inches large, I am able to reach sides of the screen easily. But then, I’ve got big hands. The hardware Home button that Samsung smartphones are known for is finally gone. The front of the S8 is an all-glass affair. Samsung calls this the ‘Infinity Display’.

Samsung Galaxy S8 hands-on Review: Software and User Interface
The OS and user interface look refined. Maybe it’s an illusion of the screen and aspect ratio. Maybe not. But there are no major leaps here. There is no app button on the S8: no on-screen button for opening the app drawer. You swipe up like on Pixel devices – or swipe down to access the app drawer.

There are also no signs (like the small arrow beyond the dock app on the Pixel) on the home screen to indicate what screen you are on. That is a cosmetic gripe for me. Samsung’s virtual assistant, Bixby has a dedicated hardware button on the left side of the phone for easy access. Unfortunately, I can’t say much about it till it is fully operational when the S8 starts shipping. It appears promising, but I question how much traction it will gain against Google Assistant.

Everything appears to be fast and responsive. But how the software holds up after intensive use remains to be seen.

PhonesOld Buddies, Nokia And Microsoft, Go To War by dsnet(op): 7:11am On Dec 05, 2016
How time flies. In 2014, Nokia sold off its mobile business to Microsoft and took a sabbatical from making devices. Last week, Nokia got back in the phone business and its license to HMD Global too effect. In other words, there is Microsoft mobile (which is run by Microsoft) and there is Nokia once again (this time with devices to be produced by HMD Global). The former bed fellows are now competitors in the smartphone and tablet markets.

These two old buddies will now have to compete in the same smartphone market. While Microsoft has not done well with smartphones, the company has had a good run with its Surface tablets. Microsoft’s Windows smartphones and tablets will compete in the same market as Nokia’s upcoming Android smartphones and tablets. These old buddies will fight for turf on the same playing field.

PhonesThese Are The Cheapest Smartphones In Nigeria by dsnet(op): 10:32am On Oct 17, 2016
There used to be a time when Nigeria was awash with bottom of the pyramid smartphones that cost around N10,000. This was not too long ago. Fast forward to 2016 and the current economic recession has seen smartphone prices go through the roof. We went hunting and found out a few of the cheapest smartphones in Nigeria below NGN15,000 for you.

Here are the cheapest smartphones in Nigeria at the moment:

FERO U451: N15,000
Partner KS1: NGN10,000 - N14,000
MTN S730: N15,000

PhonesThe Cheapest Data Plan In Nigeria by dsnet(op): 6:33am On Oct 17, 2016
Internet penetration in Nigeria has come a long way since GSM technology was launched in 2001. The advent of the mobile networks saw the emergence of internet access that was available nationwide. But cost has always been an issue. In 2013, someone had a dream of when 3 GB mobile internet data for N1,000 would be available to Nigerians. I responded then that it would happen soon. From then on, the cheapest data plan in Nigeria inched on gradually towards that goal post.

When we speak about the cheapest data plan in Nigeria, we are looking at a plan that is usable all through a month at the lowest cost possible for users of generic mobile phones and smartphones. This excludes BlackBerry internet Service (BIS) users, who are becoming an extinct breed anyway.

In 2014, it sort of happened, but you needed to buy a 24 GB plan at the cost of N8,000 to get the equivalent of 3 GB for N1,000. That was far outside of the reach if the average Nigerian. That has now changed and in 2016, there is a 30-day data plan that offers more than 3 GB for just N1,000.

PhonesAnother Day, Another Facebook Privacy Hoax by dsnet(op): 8:15am On Jul 04, 2016
I am not very active on Facebook these days. But today, I had some time on my hands today and headed there. One after the other, I saw status updates from different contacts that spoke about some Facebook privacy issue. The summary of these updates is that supposedly from the first of July 2016, Facebook would make public everything users have ever posted and exploit them commercially. The updates include some statement supposedly denying Facebook permission to use the users’ “pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future”.

Crap. Pile of lies. I wonder who cooks these things up.

But more surprising is the fact that that supposedly educated people copied and pasted these updates. Supposedly intelligent people. If I got a dollar for every Facebook privacy hoax that has come along in the last few years, I would be richer than Mark Zuckerberg by now. I swear.

Honestly, if Facebook was really going to do such a thing, it is amusing that some people believe that posting an update of these sort will protect them from the move? Really? One would think that the sensible move would be for them to delete all their content and then delete their Facebook accounts. No?

People need to stop believing these hoaxes and making a fool of themselves.

Oh; think twice. Its just another day and another Facebook privacy hoax.

PhonesTECNO Boom J8 Users Are Unable To Send Music Via Whatsapp; Bluetooth Too by dsnet(op): 12:53pm On May 07, 2016
This morning, we relieved a complaint from a TECNO Boom J8 user who asked why she was unable to send music files via Bluetooth or WhatsApp. We thought that was strange, so we tested it out on as many units as we had access to.

Our findings: just like the complainant said, the J8 wouldn't send out music files via Bluetooth. The send process always failed. As for sending from inside WhatsApp, there isn't any option to send a music file; only to send audio recordings.

However, we are able to send a music file via WhatsApp by opening File Manager and sharing from there. But that isn't intuitive if you are in the middle of a WhatsApp chat and want to quickly send a music file to your chat mate.

How About Receiving?

We got two other TECNO phones to send music files via WhatsApp and Bluetooth to the Boom J8. In one (L8), Bluetooth worked only if the devices were already paired. In the other (Droipad 8D), Bluetooth sending failed.

It is not clear why these phenomena should arise in the J8. Sharing on Android OS is seamless and these issues are a step backwards. MobilityArena.com has notified TECNO Mobile and hope that they will fix them soon.
