smartkester: The answer to that question is a big yes. I only have a first degree from Nigeria. I came to Canada with 8yrs oil industry experience. I wanted to change career and also wanted to stay in Ontario. I got a decent job in 3 months with one of the big 5 banks in a staff role with full benefits and paid vacation. The pay is not the best, but hey, it pays all the bills, affords me extra money and. Most importantly it gives me a platform to develop my self and plot/execute the next phase of my career change. What the OP means is that you can have your degree on your resume without having the school, that way no one will discriminate based on where you got your education. If you qualify for the job, you have a good chance of getting shortlisted for an interview. If you impress at the interview, it's unlikely that they would deny you a position based on where you got your degree. Just have it in mind that whatever the case, it makes a lot of sense to get a canadian education as soon as you can. Anything from a graduate certificate, diploma to a masters will improve your earnings here. 31 Likes 5 Shares |

Blessedluvdfavd: I'm surprised this issue doesn't come up more often. From my experience, it is extremely difficult to find accomodation as a new immigrant. The best thing is to have family you canneither stay with when you arrive or to sort it out for you before you arrive. To be frank, your chances of getting a rental approval as a new immigrant in Ontario especially in the GTA are close to zero. People more established in the Country or Province are more likely to get approved over you because just like a job, there are usually tons of applications for every available rental. The price of rentals has also been increasing astronomically recently. In the 2 months I have searching, a 1 bed condo in Mississauga has increased from an average of $1650-$1750 up to $1900-$1950. Also, unlike in Nigeria when apartments or houses are listed around the time they are available, most houses here are listed as available when the current tenant has given notice which is usually about 2 months to the date the apartment actually becomes available. In my experience, all of the rental sites are jokes. About 90% of what is listed on them are unavailable. You are better off on Kijiji where Landlords or rental companies personally post. For apartment complexes, it's better to find those around where you would like to stay and call them up to ask about availability or visit them.if you are looking for a townhouse, you most likely would be dealing directly with landlords. A typical landlord would require the following. 1. Credit report 2. Proof of income(employment letters, pay stubs or bank statements) 3. References from past landlords 4. First and last months rent In most cases, when they hear that you don't have some of the requirements because you are a new immigrant, their countenance immediately changes and its game over. If you can pay 4-6 months upfront, a few landlords may listen to you. My suggestions would be as follows. 1.Realistically, find a short term rental and pay for a month or two( Airbnb). Now start looking for places that would be available in 1 or 2 months time. 2. Don't be choosy. As long as the area isn't sketchy and transit and shopping is closeby, the apartment may not be exactly what you are looking for but you don't have that luxury of choice at this point. 3. As stated earlier offer multiple months upfront for landlords. For apartment complexes, get a cosignor who has been here for a long time to sign the lease with you.( I have heard this may affect your ability to access credit in the future, but I'm not so sure) 4. Get an agent and explain that you are a new immigrant and let them know what you can provide of the requirements. For those that plan on coming in the near future, if you don't have family that you plan to stay with when you land, I would advice you find a place on airbnb a few months ahead and book up to 2 months. This way, you can get a price that is only 200-400$ higher than a normal rental which isn't too bad since it's fully furnished. This post is based on my experience in the greater Toronto area. It may be a bit different for other parts of Canada and indeed Ontario 40 Likes 14 Shares |

Not for canadian education, but for 2 or more certificates. 25 points are lost in skills transferability while 7 points or so are lost in education totaling over 30 points. optionese: 1 Like |

Online masters and post graduate diplomas and even one year graduate certificate programs from colleges will count. If it's from a canadian college, all the better. If it isn't, you'll be safer sticking with a masters or pgd as evaluating bodies may not recognise the certificate. optionese: |

You have not maxed out your possible scores yet. At 34 with a Bachelors and 3 years work experience, your CRS should be around 420s or very slightly lower. Also you may find an online postgraduate diploma from anywhere in the world. Do that while you work and within a year or less, you would have 2 or more certs and a CRS of around 440-450. While at it, seek provincial nominations. Depending on provincial nominations alone may not be smart as you may not get the nomination. Cheers. johnson11: |

Bsbabe: On the contrary, I think Canada attracts the best of Nigerians. The highest quality amongst us who understand the value of patience and are ready to undertake a process to migrate. I can't count how many people I have tried in futilty to convince to relocate the right way and not relocate to the US on a visiting Visa. 12 Likes 1 Share |

mcstan18: Not exactly, when applying with your spouse, all the points you loose when compared with single applicants can be earned by your spouse's language and education. It actually evens out. Neither single nor married applicants are favoured by CRS calculations. So as a married applicant, you only loose points if your spouse does not take language tests or get an ECA or both. |

happytbaby: It isn't old stuff. People are just not getting the interpretion right. It first says change in age after ITA that resulta in CRS lower than that of your draw should ordinarily be a case for refusal. It then goes further to say that there is an exemption to age based CRS point recalculation that is covered by another section A25.2. Simple interpretation is that age change after ITA won't affect your application. 1 Like |

Flaj: This is exactly what i am saying. My wording was wrong. Not exempt from CRS recalcultaion but exempt from refusal on the basis of change in age. Bottom line is that change in age after ITA and before AOR will not result in your application being refused. |

Julie2018: As for your case, you do not need a CSE. CSEs are for submitted applications. You seem to be at ITA stage. Your priority should be to get the new passport asap. You should be able to continue your application with your new passport and documentation showing you lost and replaced your passport. Make sure you get the new passport on time as your 90day deadline will not be extended. |

boldinc: If it did not change in 2 weeks plus, it won't have. It's the case with some profiles. You know CIC's website has loads of technical issues. You don't change any thing, you just go in like you want to edit the DOB field, and re-submit, it would apply the new score immediately. |

GlitteringStar: Birthday was April 4th, ITA was April 19th. Once you submit your profile to the pool, nothing will change automatically. It's your duty to ensure that info is up to date. If something changes, you have to update and resubmit. Prior to this, I had also expected the deduction to be automated, so I was a bit surprised when I got that ITA. |

GlitteringStar: I am actually talking from personal experience so I know so. I got an ITA which I had to reject because my birthday had just passed and my score was not automatically reduced. You have to manually update the date of birth field (like refreshing)before your score is recalculated. 1 Like |

My Nairaland Family, All glory to God!! Finally got the golden mail today. First my story. We got interested in this journey in Jan 2015 when express entry was introduced, but we didn't take the 1st step till Sept of 2015 when we took our IELTS. Started following this thread around mid 2016. I started my ECA in January 2016. My ECA took 1 year to process all because I wanted to have my Unilag Diploma 1 certificate accessed to meet the then very high cut offs. The program was defunct and there was no trace of any records. Finally, records office generated the result from my statement and sent in December 2016, only for WES to totally ignore it. By this time, scores had started to come down. But I still needed the 25 points that 2 or more certs would have given. ECA came out in March 2017 as BSc only. At this point, we were still contemplating making wifey the primary applicant as she was younger and had a masters and an LLb but only 1 year work. Long story short, cutoff visited 413 in May just to pick us up. We submitted out application on the very last day. Time line below. ITA- May 31st AOR-29th August Meds passed and IP1- Sept 12th NA2-Sept 13th File moved to London VO- Oct 25th(got message of how to find a job in Canada) Sent mail to confirm VO on 12th Nov, got confirmation of London on the 15th Request to pay RPRF- Dec 5th PPR- Dec 6th We used a gift deed and only a small part of my bank statement as the six month printout was too large to upload. Marriage cert had Civil Engr(my education) my job was in another NOC. No LOE or anything No ADR even though wifey has had a couple of visa refusals in the past. I would like to encourage us that there is absolutely no reason to fear the dreaded London Visa Office as our very imperfect application scaled through in a reasonable time. Package your application to the best of your ability, be truthful, and follow CIC's instructions. All the best to all hopefuls.. 57 Likes 1 Share |

Your new score should update in a few days. The profile status may continue to show update not submitted, but there's nothing to worry about there. Mine is still showing update not submited since April and I have gotten ITA, submitted and passed Meds. agates: |
