Out of the last 4 seasons Lemar has been off form for 3 of them.

I think what Deschamps was trying to be very pragmatic with this setup and playing best to his teams ability..grieezy best role has been playing off a main striker,not really being the top 9 and like someone opined here also,mbappe isn't really a top 9 per se..so considering the fact with the options left,he needed a a striker who could at least hold up play and bring in grieezy and mbappe into the mix was his best route..tho I feel it if he had a quality striker like lewy,there wouldn't be need for a giroud..

That being said,rashford lacks the skill set to be the top 9 for France or displace any of the starting players in the lineup...also,the issue with benzema also made it easier for Deschamps to use giroud.

In the last 5 matches for France Coman started 3 matches and Ben Yedder started 2. If we go further we see Thauvin starting and even the much maligned Lemar starting BUT Rashford will not start?

The only thing that makes it debatable is Deschamps' love for the defensive 4-2-3-1 in big games in which he plays Matuidi as a left sided midfielder.
In all the other games in which he doesn't play that system i see players who are not better than Rashford starting.
