You are very right here, the club isn't telling us everything, Arsenal is run as a 'sustainable' business which funds itself, has made and will make a lot of decisions from a business survival standpoint. If that is what a 'selling club' is, then Arsenal is one.

To the bolded, the creed of this club is "Victoria concordia crescit", Victory through harmony. It takes two to tango and I do not wish to see us keep players who do not want to stay. RVP is top quality, even the most blinkered Arsenal fan knows this and you're right there is an element of consolation in there, but cast your mind back to all the seasons before the penultimate one and you'll see that those who make these statements have a good reason to.
