@Dipo

On second thots, I don't blame RVP much after my initial outburst but I still hold the opinion that he has no right to hold the club to ransom. He might be hustling for his big payday or purchase of 'quality' players for all I know and care but I've come to the conclusion that in his heart, he wants to stay cos if he didn't his family wouldn't be making all those comments.
He should however tread carefully so that he doesn't get the Andy Carroll treatment. The board will sell him if an adequate bid comes in and will make him look bad doing so.

proudly9ja: If we end up keeping RVP and sign M'Villa and with the return of Jack Wilshere and hopefully no other long term injury issue with any of our players, then I believe that for the first time in a long time, we will actually go into the season with some level of belief!

Instead of you to thank RVP for proving stubborn and forcing Arsene's hands cheesy When last did Arsene Wenger bring in two established players for the same position in one transfer market? And I hear we are planning on changing the wage structure too? Wow..dudu make have to dust his books because it seems he has been yarning dust for years! grin grin grin Disclaimer: No be me talk am o, Na Gazidis talk am (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1088771/arsenal-alter-wage-structure-to-land-?cc=5739)

I don tell you before that Arsenal now have money, I'm not surprised at our moves this window. It was clear from our last set of accounts that we could spend up to 30m (enough for 2 15m signings) stresslessly and even more if we wanted to go all out. Debo sef see am but the more he looked, the less he saw. grin

I fear for RVP, if the board hasn't made up their mind to sell him already. Our team is now looking unbalanced with 3 left footed main strikers.

As to Gazidis' video, what he said is that adjustments have to be made, that much is clear what was in dispute was how far Arsenal are willing to go (PHW has subsequently made it very clear that we are still not going to the Man city/Chelsea level of spendings and that if RVP angles for 250k per week, he'll have to take a hike) but Gazidis did make the point that all clubs have inefficiencies and that Arsenal is still one of the best run par for the course.
He also said that he can't nuance every statement and that certain statements of his will be jumped on and twisted beyond all recognition. The main thrust of his video is that Arsenal's way is the future and that we will stay the course, that it was a strategic decision to build the stadium and what they did not foresee was the influx of none football related money and concurrent unsustainable spending in the PL.

The Stadium is now mostly done with and Arsenal can now focus on the next step which is driving up commercial revenues, the first steps which is currently not visible to most people is that they've recruited a commercial team to put in the leg work (something Manure did about 10 years back according to him) and that the first fruits are starting to show in the increase in secondary partners such as Betsson, Malta Guiness e.tc. but will mostly come to the fore when the main commercial contracts are renegotiated in 2014.

Either way, Skysports better hope Arsenal is still in the chase by November or else I'm getting rid of my subscription. grin

You meant to say you would dismantle your dodgy black box. tongue

RVP should now understand that whatever he achieved in the past season at Arsenal, he did not do alone, it takes 11 commited players to achieve anything meaningful on the pitch. He might have good reasons to want to put pressure on the board to increase his wages and/or buy more quality players but he should not overdo it if he doesn't really want to go or this board will do to him exactly what Newcastle did to Andy Carroll.

This nicely encapsulates your clueless status. Please keep revelling in your ignorance.
Buying one player for a team sorely lacking 4 world class players to compete for the title is nothing. It's like saying buying one tyre for a car should convince a man to wait for the car to be fixed, after waiting 8 years for the fix. grin

Very bad analogy, from a very shallow depth of thinking, why thinking about tyres when you nor be motor parts seller. grin
RVP's case is more like a man having a Girlfriend he picked from the village (the dutch league) whom he nurtured all the way thru University (the Arsenal Carling Cup team e.t.c) got engaged to (signed a contract for a number of years) who after many health problems (injuries) finally graduated with first class honours (scored 30 goals in a season) after deferring a number of years due to her health problems. Who immediately on graduating started fluttering her eyes at the moneybags (Manchester City and co) in her area and telling the chap who has been labouring on her that he'd better buy the so called new tyres (marquee signings) for his car from Debosky and Sons (unaware that Debosky and Sons actually sell stolen goods grin) or risk losing her to these moneybags.

debosky:
You are truly clueless - if Arsenal wins nothing in a season RVP scores 30 goals, when will they win? When he scores 50? He has given his best, but the club is NOT interested in building a successful team around him. Only someone living in lala-land like you will fail to comprehend that.
Circular reason has always been your forte Debo tongue
being the highest goal scorer in the league for one season does not automatically give a player the right to demand that his team win the league.
As the Rt. Hon. Trophyless emeritus DK is always keen to remind us, even the likes of Kevin Phillips have scored the highest number of goals in Europe before.
RVP needs to listen to his momma and his wifey. For once I say thank God for women. grin

Seriously those days are over, Youngsters have to be spectacular to get a look in to the Arsenal team now.
In the past, guys like Frimpong and Coquelin would already have become first teamers and Ox would be in the starting 11.
I don't know what more RVP wants, for once in a long while we bought early and got proven quality as well sef and all the signs point to further activity in the transfer window.
Arsene protects and backs his young players a lot, its a pity they all seem to turn out to be backstabbers. May they all end up like Hleb begging to come back. grin
The vindictive side of my mind says hold him to the last year of his contract by force while the logical side says sell him off and buy a replacement but whichever one happens is okay jare.

Goetze is just 19, and has won TWO league titles and cups as well. He has at least 12 years left in his career to move elsewhere for the big money when he wants to. It is quite daft to compare Goetze to RVP who has played for 8 years at Arsenal, won nothing apart from one FA cup, and is 29 with maybe 3 years left at the top level.

Goetze is not the only one winning things at Dortmund jare, I forget how many games exactly he played this season sef cos of his groin injury undecided Mind you a player like Rosicky left Dortmund to Arsenal because Arsenal were still fresh off the highs of the invincible season and things weren't going well at Dortmund then but he has won nothing since then. I think some clubs even need to examine some of these players running to other clubs in searn of trophies as some of them will only bring bad luck with them.

debosky:
Who cares if you don't applaud him? Most rational goners will applaud for picking up the gauntlet in the most disastrous of summers for Arsenal and nearly single-handedly pushing us to third place, and for his Jan-May performance the season before that saved us from ending up below Spurs.
Not many people care about some wannabe shareholder dude with 0.00001 shares thinks. grin
Obviously Debosky of the 8 year mantra does. grin
I applauded him for his contribution during the season but I will take back that applause if the sole intent behind it was to put himself in the market and then hold the club to ransom which is what I see evolving.
You can applaud him for leaving and you can also follow him to keep applauding him at the next club he goes to as well you Judas. Arsenal will go on. tongue

debosky:
Again with the asinine comparisons - TV5 is not 29, neither has he spent 8 long years at Arsenal, with a litany of broken promises to improve the squad. TV5 still needs to prove himself as world class, while RVP has already done that.

RVP also contributed to the 8 looooooong years you keep on chanting which might soon become part of your daily morning yoga chant at the rate you keep repeating it. tongue
If as you imply, all he has come to do at Arsenal is to prove himself worldclass for a season after 8 loooooooooong years and then leave, he is nothing more than another mercenary and we need more than such selfish thinking in the team if Arsenal are ever going to start winning things again.

With Steve Bould and Neil Banfield's move up to the first team staff, some new staff will be coming in to take positions in the Academy. I expect to see some of our old boys getting jobs.
There are rumors that Jens Lehmann will be joining as Goalkeeping coach for the Academy while also working with the first team not sure who else will be joining, there might finally be an opportunity for more of the old boys to come in.

@4ller

What exactly did your employer do for you apart from pay your salary and what exactly do you owe them apart from your 1 month notice in your employment contract?
Football is not exactly like any other employment, that is why fixed term contracts are signed with various options in them.
We know what the moneybags have turned the game into in recent times but that doesn't make it right.
I will not have a single problem with RVP if Arsenal wanted to sell him but its obvious to everyone that the club DEFINITELY want to keep him and are willing to meet him halfway.
Arsene Wenger has not asked anyone to harangue RVP so don't let your Anti Arsene disposition bring Arsene into this. This is not about Arsene but about Arsenal as a club and the way they've chosen to approach football within certain constraints that they have. Arsene doesn't make all the decisions at Arsenal in case you still haven't noticed after 7 years.

4llerbuntu: @duduspace, let me repeat this incase you missed it for the umpteenth time
Offered to play free my arse, in their prime and when they had concrete offers elsewhere at better clubs with a chance to win stuff? Pls cite an example!

Oguchi Onyewu for AC Milan
Owen Hargreaves for Manure who subsequently got a paid contract with City.
Those 2 were in the very recent times and those are the ones we got to hear about cos I'm almost sure they are not the only ones.
Matt Le Tissier one of the finest players England has every produced and the first midfielder to score 100 goals in the PL played all through his career at Southampton and won nothing, zilch, nada with them depite being wanted by the big guns in the PL even missing out on England caps because he was playing for a light weight club and that is why he is called "Le God" at St Mary's. That is Loyalty for you.

And please stop this he has to earn what his contemporaries are earning spiel, Arsenal pays well relative to other clubs in the PL and the only 3 clubs with higher salaries than Arsenal in the PL (which is the highest paying league in the world) are Manure, Chelsea and City so its not exactly as if he's impoverished and begging you for money to buy shoes particularly when Arsenal is breaking their own wage record in an attempt to keep him.
Also stop this "chance to win things" chant, he is one of the few players remaining at Arsenal who have actually won something with the club even though his contributions were paltry in winning as he was a junior member of the team at that time.

I have repeatedly said that the kind of players Arsenal need now are those who will believe in the club regardless of what happens around them, not those who are casting envious glances at the spending of the likes of City and Chelsea or do you think that Borussia Dortmund would have beaten Munich to the Bundesliga title back to back despite not winning anything for the preceeding 10 years if their players were looking at Munich's financial might or do you honestly think a player like Gotze cannot earn much more playing for Munich than Dortmund? If he is not one of those, then I don't even want him in the team cos we will win nothing even if we keep him.

I will also repeat for the umpteenth time that it is RVP's call if he wants to go, I won't even agitate for the club to hold him to the final year of his contract but the point remains that I won't applaud him for it either and I won't for once be taken in by his "I love Arsenal" schtick. If he truly loves Arsenal, let him do what TV5 did earlier in the season and renew his contract without any unnecessary fuss or drama so that we can go into a season with positive circumstances for once in a long while at Arsenal.

proudly9ja: Make una no mind dudu o...as if he would remain with debosky and sons consulting grin grin when Accenture or JP Morgan comes calling simply because debosky and sons 'trained' him and stood by him when things were bad. Dudu....ever loyal!

Don't get me wrong o, I'm not saying he shouldn't go far from it. I'm cool as long as we get full value and reinvest it wisely. What he shouldn't expect is for the fans to thank him for it and welcome him back as some hero. At least I wont and I know Dr. Kit won't cool, the rest of you can. tongue
And when I talk about Loyalty, some players have shown examples of it even offering to play for free for clubs that stood by them.
If RVP as he claims with his own mouth believes that Arsenal have contributed so much to him, and I know for a fact that the club has (Rape accusations, multiple injuries and an initially juvenile attitude are just some of the things we withstood).
Then there is something called giving back. What Arsenal need now is as little drama as possible. If he loves Arsenal as he claims to do, he shouldn't be adding to our problems.

Overall Arsenal have the fifth highest wage-bill(and are way down the table in terms of net-spend) but finished in the top-three. Obviously fans want more than just top-3 but how do you compete with teams recording 197m loss?

Thank you jare, I've been asking Debo this question for the past 3 years, I'm still awaiting his answer.

debosky: For those interested in financial stats, please read the article in the following link:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/23/premier-league-accounts-profit-debt

Conversely, Spurs has a wage bill of just £91m, £33m less than ours, but we finished only a point above them. undecided

Reduce the youth squad - get rid of more players earlier, but make sure you insert sell on clauses in their contracts. Reduce the loan contingent - sell them even for very low, just get the dross off the wage bill, AND use that to improve the squad with new quality players, not giving duds like Djourou pay rises.

Do the maths Debo, there is a a level of competence and ability you need to maintain in your team to go to the UCL YoY. This is also tied to spending. Spurs wage bill jumped from 63M to that 91M you see (despite City subsidising Adebayor's stay) with their first foray into the UCL and it has stayed at that level ever since.

Henry collected a £5m loyalty bonus to stay, then stayed ONE YEAR and moved elsewhere to make more money. What kind of mor0nic loyalty is that? Loyalty to his pocket that’s what!

Henry left when he KNEW Arsenal could no longer compete, AFTER he collected his big pay check.

At least he stayed, that is the most important thing, I'm not asking RVP to be a sacrificial lamb as altruism is not usually associated with footballers. The club will also make it worth his while. They know what he has done and are appreciative of it. Arsenal as a club do not need this drama at this point in time. If he truly loves the club as he says, then let him show it.

debosky:
RVP has never been among those being overpaid for anything - if you look at how many goals he’s scored vs what he’s paid, he is massively underpaid compared to the likes of other top strikers with his goal scoring record.

That is relative, others would say all footballers are already overpaid anyway. It is all well and good if its Roman writing off the cheques or the Abu Dhabi lords. Arsenal have books to balance and those ones do not. He has also not always scored such a high number of goals (at least not before he signed his last contract) and had a dodgy injury record, also he never complained of being cheated then.

debosky:
Rubbish - anyone who thinks Arsenal is on the verge of being great is a deluded dreamer. Without significant strengthening with at least 2 quality signings, we are doomed to another struggle to finish fourth. There is no greatness in that.

Delusion or not, it takes belief to win anything. If RVP believes that we cannot win anything, then I don't want him in our team no matter how good he is. He will only sulk all through next season. We need people with belief in this team who are prepared to stay the course.

debosky:
RVP can also come back and collect retirement pay at Arsenal after winning trophies elsewhere too, plus, after 8 years he can call Arsenal his ‘real home’ too. Who born maga? Henry with all he won still left at a similar age, how much more RVP who needs to win?

Are you dreaming or you've been smoking shisha pipe with Chamakh in your spare time? Have you forgotten everything Henry had won with us before then?
even then, he still delayed by a year out of respect for the club and the manager. You want to compare that with a player who was considered by DK and co as one of Wenger's flops up till about a year and a half ago? shocked shocked

If you are mad at RVP who despite his injuries, still has a mean score of about 1 goal in every two games for Arsenal, what would you say about players like Diaby, Denilson, Almunia, Djorou and even the recent one Park?
RVP Stats since he joined us:
Total
Player Ap Gl
2004-2005 18+23 10
2005-2006 21+17 11
2006-2007 25+6 13
2007-2008 20+3 9
2008-2009 38+6 20
2009-2010 18+2 10
2010-2011 26+7 22
2011-2012 45+3 37
Totals 211+67 132

Show me five other EPL strikers who have better stat that this. Arsenal probably stood by RVP because they saw he had potentials. Do you think if the table above read 1 goal per season, RVP would still be at Arsenal? Let Arsenal show RVP ambition, Im sure he'l stay.

Not blaming him for being injured but even if you would consider those stats, out of all those seasons he's spent here, he's only given anything near PL winning stats in 1 out of 8 seasons for someone who is meant to be one of if not our main striker. Is that the kind of performances the likes of Berbatov, Drogba and Rooney turn in yearly for the same clubs that have won trophies? Even Fernando Torres has contributed more to Liverpool while he was there so what is the megedefegede about.
What RVP has done is exactly like if Diaby suddenly becomes superfit and scores 15 or so goals next season and then starts questioning the club's ambition in the next transfer window because he's got only 1 year or so left on his contract.

Arsenal is stuck in a long drawn out transition and does not have the financial resources of City, Chelsea and Manure in that order, that should be clear to anyone of a discerning mind. With passing time we get closer, at least no one can say we aren't replacing lost players now and adding to the squad. We've lost Nasri and Cesc in the past 2 seasons and we've gained Arteta, Gervinho, Per and now Podolski. If that is not a sign of progress then I wonder what is.
What Arsenal needs now are players whose hearts are in this club and will stick to it no matter what. RVP should be able to give something back to the club that has backed him for so long despite him not having delivered ALWAYS as expected during those periods.
If the club had a need to sell him (e.g as Everton needed to sell Arteta, I would understand but there is no such need and there isn't even any club bringing the kind of money you can't say no to like in CR9's case). The club is trying to consolidate but these stupid mercenary boys we spent time developing no wan gree.
To hell with the lot of them. He can bloody well get out if he wants to but he'll be nothing more than another goddamned mercenary when he could have been a whole lot more at this club end of. I may not boo him if he comes back someday but I won't be cheering him either.
As long as we spend the money wisely as we are doing these days, he is very replaceable, we coped after losing Henry.

proudly9ja:
This is exactly my point. Sagna, Wilshere, Chambo, etc are all passing us subtle messages. They may not mean it the way I think but if we keep selling our top players every season, these players will go. Its simple.
Wilshere also said it would be nice to win something next season with Arsenal, I expect them to be challenged and inspired by such things. Did you expect them to be saying they don't want to win trophies? undecided

proudly9ja:
When we had this argument last season when Cesc and Nasri cases were dragging, I remember saying clearly that once we allow Cesc and Nasri to go, we would be making a big statement on our ambition (or lack of). That is exactly what is happening. What do you think would be going on in the minds of the other players if we sell RVP? They are going to the National team now and whilst others are showing off their EPL, Champ's lge medals, Arsenal players will be showing off their LOYALTY medals.

Loyalty ko, disloyalty ni.

RVP wants to win trophies. Age is not on his side. Arsene and Arsenal should stop preaching patience. The team, fans and everyone connected with Arsenal (asides from the board members) have been patient enough.

Is it everyone in the national team who is showing off medals? All of them are stupid Mercenaries jare, I always felt Cesc's case was unique and not based on money alone, and that was in one of my sentimental moments but even that is looking ill advised now. When you give people an inch, they end up driving you off the road. angry

proudly9ja: Dudu, are you serious?

In RVP's worst season at Arsenal, he scored 9 goals in 15 appearances!

Yes he's been injured most of the time (before last season) but he's delivered more than many strikers have. In my opinion, I think its an INSULT to offer him 130thousand pounds (if its true that's the bone of contention).

And that is how to win trophies? playing 15 games out of the 50 odd games Arsenal play in a season? the difference between Arsenal and the PL trophy in 07/08 was 4 points, maybe if he'd been fit we would have won it.
The same eediots that we spent the famine seasons developing play one good season or thereabouts and run away just cause of money? I'm fully convinced we would have won something by now if just 2 of these players had stayed just one or two seasons more instead of backpacking it immediately they showed any promise. Cesc/Hleb/Flamini/Nasri

I've heard enof of this bullcrap about the team not winning anything. Players win games and each one of them had a part to play in the times we missed out on silverware no matter how good they are subsequently. Does RVP want to say that all his goals were scored by his efforts alone?

What arsenal needs now are players who are willing to stay the course SIMPLES. We cannot continue to bleed talent and win anything but if he is not willing to do that let him get the eff out. Arsenal take care of their players and they show loyalty, its about time a player gives something back jare.

proudly9ja:
The truth is that there is at least one of two ways clubs attract players
1. Money
2. Trophies

I have deliberately crossed out 2 for you, now you're left with only one.
Trophies do not exist in isolation of money and it plays a big part in trophies these days anyway.
what you are left with are either LOYAL players or greedy ones. There are minute grey area cases like Cesc but then life is never one of two choices but many in betweens.

proudly9ja:
My question is, which of the two above is Arsenal offering one of the best strikers in the world who prolly has only about two active years to go?
You should go and read tweets of current Arsenal players after Chelsea's win yesterday. Bacary Sagna wished he was celebrating just like the Chelsea players. Wilshere said he's motivated to win something with Arsenal next season. Even Chambo is now more than ever 'eager to win a cup at both club and country levels'. Bottom line, players want to win something and if the club is not showing ambition, they will go somewhere else to find it.

If we can't show ambition by bringing in quality players, then pay RVP the money.
Easy to name players like Scholes and Giggs who have consistently won trophies at their club.

Anyone, not only players would rather win something than not win, let nobody start beating us up about trophies jare. Even an amputee wants to win trophies too so that is not the bone of contention.
The question is when a club that has been loyal to you needs you, at least show some loyalty too. I will always respect Henry for that as he at least delayed his leaving by one year for the stadium move.

Arsenal might not be able to pay as much as clubs like City but we do take care of our players that is a fact. I doubt that the club would offer him 130K which even though might seem small to what is on offer at some other clubs but for Arsenal where no other player on the books that I know of earns over 100k, it is substantial. What RVP needs to consider also is that he kept on collecting his money season on season despite playing less than 30 games in 3 out of the 5 seasons he was supposed to be one of our main strikers and I'm sure while he was collecting it, some smartasses like Debo were grumbling that some players were being overpaid for what they were contributing.

It is his decision whether he stays or not but if he leaves, he'll be relegating himself into the gabbage bin of our history as someone who stood on the verge of becoming one of our true greats but was ensnared by the lure of money. Arsenal as an institution will survive this and will very soon be great again. He should ask someone like Henry where he believes his real home to be between Arsenal and Barcelona even though he won his biggest 'trophy' at Barcelona.

Good news in case anyone was wondering.
We go straight into the UCL group stage. No english club will be in the final Qualifying phase next year.

He added: "It is his heart against his head. It would be quite refreshing if a player decides: 'This is my club. I am not going to play anywhere else and am going to show that faith and trust which was shown in me. I am going to believe in the project Arsenal have'.

RVP, the above is all I ask of you.
Money has messed up this game we love.
This is a player the club stuck by when as recently as 2010 some were writing articles that we should sell him cos he would never play a full season.
Now he's given us 1.5 astounding season and we are suddenly not matching his ambition.
All these stupid mercenaries should get the hell out of Arsenal jare, we need our own Scholes, Giggs, Le Tissier, Tony Adams e.t.c.
People who will say Silverware or not, I'm going to stick to it and win something with this club.
You have been good but far be it from me to make more of you than you are. Arsenal will survive if you go chikena.
We even did better in the league than we did when big headed Omo Iya Nasiru and Cesc were around anyway.

dayokanu: Simple when you aint destined to win nothing more you could do

Look at Barca vs Chelsea if chelsea had lost both legs 8:0 aggregates there wouldnt have been any complaints

Bayern had 20 corners Chelsea had one and scored. Cech that isnt known for his penalty prowess now turned to Kahn.

A German team losing on penalties isnt what happens often
Even in 1999 Man Utd game was balanced

Even most Chelsea fans and players cant understand what went on. Dont think i have seen a more lopsided final and still lost.

Most of,our players even lost faith either due to age or pressure

Some even declined to take penalties.

Lamentations of an excuse fabricator. tongue
Lopsided final ko, paraplegic final ni.
Please explain in 3 short, simple sentences why Bayern should choke in 3 clear cut opportunities to win silverware this season and when exactly did Bayern become bottlers?
What is your proposed remedy? a trip by Kaizer and co to go and dobale at The Synagogue to stop this slide into decadence? cheesy

Well done Pat, glad you are leaving. So fresh guys can come in and revamp a team that is consistent with the same mistakes season in season out especially in defence.
Hope you were given more shares in the PLC for your steawardship this past 44years. Or are you selling your shares and running off?

Now Steve is here, hope Veira and Berkamp are next in line...

Bruv, be careful and don't slag off legends. What Pat Rice has done for Arsenal is immeasurable. It is a serious error of judgement on your part to even harbour the thought that you love Arsenal more than someone like that.

What a season, the most interesting in ages. On the final day I got 2 of my 3 wishes. We got 3rd and finished ahead of spuds, Manure didn't win but unfortunately Bolton went down so less PL games to watch next season, fortunately Wigan stays. Congratulations to City and now can we go out and do some spending. It is going to be a long way back for Manure from here in my humble opinion as they will have a lot of changes in their team but we also have our work cut out to cut back that 19 point difference in league points between us and the Mancunians.

and that is y diaby can spend 1 yr out and come in to a game to play 10 mins and look better than ramsey who has spent the whole season in the first team

Diaby wasn't always like that mind you, he was quite inconsistent with his injury worries in his younger days only achieving a modicum of consistency in his first season where he clocked about 40 games 09/10. I'd say he is more skillful and stronger than Ramsey though so he could buy himself more time on the ball. Personally I think its the instinctive part of football that Ramsey has lost a bit almost like he wants to protect himself and be sure all is safe first before he makes a pass hence getting caught on it a lot in the fast pace of the PL. Ramsey was brilliant when bought as a 17 year old and no one had complaints about him till his injury. I see no reason why he can't get back to that with time.
I don't think Wilshere will have too much problem rediscovering his form though, his injury wasn't as traumatic and he is a bit like Szczesny who seemingly isn't fazed by anything.

Dudu are you high? In the whole EPL only RvP and Berbatov(maybe one or two others) boast better technique than Yossi Benayoun. Arteta's technique/skill-set also comfortably shytes on 99% of the league. . . I ask again: Are you on crack-cocaine!!! cheesy

I even thunk you was talking about their age after the first line(though AW has been signing older players more) cos in terms of ability Benayoun and Arteta are the most typical Wenger signings of all time.

Don't burst a vessel yet Ritchy, I know what I type and I'm not swigging some drops of ecstasy diluted with akpeteshi grin
I was referring to players in the class of Cesc/Nasri/Hleb/RVP and the Rosicky of old and not our current young upstarts who still have a lot to prove.
Compared to those ones, Arteta and Benayoun are a bit plain even if they shyte on the rest of the league.
The signings most people expected were the Gotze/Eriksen/Hazard/Gourcuff/VdV prodigy types rather than the more gradual evolving player who earned their stripes more through grit than exceptional innate ability.

Just noticed what i took for black stripes on the sleeves of the new home kit are in fact blue. Still a very lazy design though, too close to the current one.
It won't matter if we win something in it though. grin

It's quite interesting that Arteta is this appreciated all of a sudden. There are several posts where many of us saw him as a passive player who offered little when are attacking (especially when we struggled to score). Our form in his absence clearly shows he is an important player in our squad.
I maintain that Schezny is one of our top three performers because as proudly9 said, he gave several good outings in the course of the season.
I've stated my top three, I'ld like to see yours'your's whatever grin

The problem most people had with Arteta was the opinion that he was a poor replacement for Cesc, if you ask me though he has a gritty side that fits the PL and he's a matured and intelligent player. He was the only one of our players who identified our problems with counter attacks and set out to do something about it but now he's out we've become susceptible to them all of a sudden. Benayoun and Arteta were seen as outsiders and not typical Arsene purchases but they've shown that we need such players who are not technically the best but make up for any little deficiencies in ability with concentration and very good work ethic while our young mavericks develop.
I've given my top 3 actually, I totally support your top 2 and dispute only the third. Koscielny IMO is currently our top defender as TV5 still has the occasional brain fart.

Among arsenal's top three performers my boy KOSIELNY must have a spot. He has had a better season than even the Verminator himself.
My top three

Robin V Persie
Kosielny
Schezny

Sagna remains the best right back in england, but injury keeps him away from my list

I'd leave Tech9 out and put Arteta in cos we've still conceeded too many goals for my liking. Theo deserves a mention too for his goals and assists record, nice contribution this season and his goals against Tottnumb came at a crucial point in the turnaround of the season.

No matter what happens now and in the coming season, I'm not buying this new home kit. I'm not joining anyone to mourn the 7 season trophy drought. What the hell is that black band doing on our sleeves?

Generations of Nigerians mourn you Yekini, Thank you for the memories you gave us all in your service to our country. You used your considerable talents to help put Nigeria on the global football map and your patriotic contribution will never be forgotten in our history.
