Yes, I agree with you on this. I was presuming he already believes in Christ as his Owner (Lord). So, op, I hope you believe in Christ. If you don't, just say "Dear Lord Jesus, I believe in you as my Owner. I accept your dying sacrifice to save me. I am washed in your blood'. These things don't have to take hours. All you need is to mean what you are saying and it becomes true immediately.
