airminem:Spare the details pls. You mean in the military if a senior officer refuses to hand over to the next most senior officer after retirement you will still allow him to stay in the office even when there is clear directive form the Chief of Army Staff/Chief of Naval Staff/Chief of Air Staff? I think you are the one who is indiscipline. And even if you're indeed a military personnel I believe you're a non-commissioned officer because senior officers don't like that. And stop acting as though there is no indiscipline in the military abi you did see videos depicting the indiscipline occurring in the military? Holier than thou attitude my foot!!! |
ceaser:I hardly reply to people's comments on this forum since 2011 when I joined Nairaland. You assertion that the police are not particularly trained to tackle banditry is incorrect. Banditry is purely internal security challenge which is within the premise of the police. The military is particularly trained for combating external aggression but can assist when the police is overpowered just like the way the police is complementing the military efforts in the fight against Boko Haram. The fact the some police officers were killed is not to say they are not trained because even your darling well trained military is occasionally get killed by the bandits. I would rather have you said that MOPOL should be deployed rather than conventional police because they are the striking unit of the NPF. I'm just stating my opinion as someone who has little knowledge on the workings of the security agencies in nigeria |
If you have enough evidence take a legal action |
Even me I just stepped down for Asiwaju. Osibanjo is stepping down too tonight |
Osibanjo will step for Asiwaju soon |

Then you will not last because those that stood for you were the ones who squandered the Party's funds except you're ready to bite the hands that fed you |
Gurge:Just tell us you are member of NSCDC period! They are not better than the NPF so stop glorifying them |
Black's Law Dictionary defines Extradition as the official surrender of alleged criminal by one state or nation to another having jurisdiction over the crime charged; the return of a fugitive justice, regardless of consent, by the authorities where the fugitive is found. Extradition rests squarely on two factors; first, the local legislation that provides the basic legal framework for it and second by a treaty signed by the two countries concerned. In Nigeria, the principal law that permits extradition is the Extradition Act Cap. E 25 LFN 2010 and other Laws having bearing on extradition such as the Immigration Act, Administration of Criminal Justice And, etc aside the 1999 Constitution which is gives validity to the above Acts. The Extradition Act only applies to countries that have extradition treaty with Nigeria. The Extradition Treaty provides for such offenses that are extraditable between the two countries. The Extradition Act saddles the Attorney General of the Federation with the responsibility of overseeing extradition matters in collaboration with the Nigeria diplomatic representative or that of the other country. A warrant of arrest or certificate of conviction is usually presented by or to the AGF as the case maybe. Nigeria has bilateral agreements as regards extradition with so many countries amongst such countries are the United States of America, the United Arab Emirates, Britain, South Africa, etc. It is now within the public knowledge that the leader of IPOB Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been arrested in Britain and brought back to Nigeria to continue his earlier trials. But, the question is, was he arrested or kidnapped? Well, looking at the bilateral relationship as regards extradition between Britain and Nigeria Nnamdi Kanu could not have been possibly kidnapped because almost all the necessary legal provisions and requirements for his extradition are in effect and operative and also considering the fact that the security of Britain in 2021 is by far more sophisticated than in the 1980s when attempt was made by the Buhari military administration to kidnap Umaru Dikko. No doubt that the offenses of Trason and Treasonable Felony are amongst the first tier of extraditable offenses in almost all extradition agreements as obtained globally. Britain handed over Nnamdi Kanu to Inerpol to be extradited back to Nigeria to continue his trials or probably to charge him for more crimes in relation to what has been happening lately in the eastern part of the country for which he is alleged to be responsible. Before now, there was an assumption in some quarters that Nnamdi Kanu being a British citizen could not be extradited. But by now, I believe those those who held this view are in shock because they had no idea and still do not have the idea of how the international law works. By now it is clear for all that Britain values their relationship with Nigeria more than we could imagine. This is depicted by how they willingly handed over Nnamdi Kanu, who holds a British passport to the Nigerian government. Therefore, those believing that Kanu was kidnapped may be saying so to garner sympathy for him or perhaps to negate the legal capacity of the Nigerian government to extradit him. They could also be saying so to change the narrative as they are not in tandem with the current realities. It is axiomatic that the chances of abducting him in this era sophisticated security in Britain are very slim and virtually impossible. With all the extant legal provisions and international treaties, it is otiose to even imagine that the Nigeria government would stoop so low to kidnapping someone that it can easily and legally extradit. |
Simplyleo:U dey mind this one! So, OBJ is a CIA agent? |
Alisha is not a lawyer so what does she mean by Legal Tussle? Besides, the UK government and the international community are are not complaining about any law being broken. I know she is in a period of lamentations so lether lament quietly without saying what she knows little or nothing about |

The government of the Republic of Niger has declared a three days mourning over the death of former President Tadja Mamadou who died at 82 years of age. Tadja was the President of Niger from 1999 to 2010 but was overthrown in a bloodless coup in 2010 after he attempted to alter the constitution to enable him stay in office beyond the constitutional number of terms. Tadja died on Tuesday in Niemey the capital of Niger but the cause of his death is still unspecified.

This is more like Pharoah giving Moses and the Israelites an ultimatum to return to Egypt after they had already reached the promise land. Obaseki has gone basek; he is not normal. |
There have been protests going on in almost all over the country (except in some northern states) calling for an end to the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS. There are different categories of protesters; those patriots who want an end to the outfit for believing that this will be bring an end to the human rights abuses papetrated by some members of this group. These are usually very few. There are those who want use the protest to gain, maintain or regain relevance (although this may not be the true intention of this class of people). These category compromises celebrities, the elites, politicians, artists, people of influence, etc. Another category of protesters are those who comprise members of security agencies disguised as protesters to gather intelligence. Another category of protesters are those who either themselves or relatives have suffered at the hand of SARS. The last category comprises those who see the squad as hindrance to their nefarious activities or beneficiaries of of crimes as seen in the case of prostitutes who were seen protesting for the ban of SARS because of their criminal clients. Whatever category one belongs, one thing is very probable, the Federal Government and the Police authority may not really ban SARS and even if they do, another formation with different nomenclature but with same or similar functions may emerge. The new squad may appear to be different from the banned SARS only for a while but soon after it may be similar or even worse. Another funny thing is that, most of the former SARS officers may be drafted to man the new squad. Don't forget that banning SARS doesn't mean that the SARS officers are gone, remember police officers have career length of 35yrs. So, it will be a case of same shit different toilets. If SARS is banned, I guarantee you that we will need another mega protest to end the next squad the will take over from the former SARS and the vicious circle continues on and on. Some people think that if SARS is banned crime will increase as criminal will carry out their nefarious activities unhindered. This could be true because we have read and heard about how SARS combated major crimes and this shows that it has some merits just like all outfits. Reforming the entire police should be a goal. SARS is part of the police so if it is banned, does that give us a better policing? If SARS is banned does that reduce police extortion and bribe? If SARS is banned, does that equip our police? How many people know that police officers buy their uniforms, stationaries, fuel for vehicles and other aquateiments(you may argue that these are captured in the budget, but that's just on paper. How much is actually released to the police? Even the little that is released, it hangs at the force headquarters it doesn't get to the lower ladder of zonal, state, area and divisional command)? How many of them were provided with protective gears and sanitizers during the COVID-19 period? If you ever visit a police training facility, barracks and stations you will know that the organization as a whole is a fiasco. The police is the mirror of the government. The kind of government you have determines the kind of police you will have. You cannot pay a police constable 45k and put a gun in his hands and expect him to act accordingly. You cannot have a police who contributes to his pension and you expect him not to collect bribes to cater for his retirement. You cannot train a police officer in an inhumane environment and expect him to act humanely after passing out. The government provides stationeries in other government offices but doesn't provide same for the police and you expect them not to ask for case file money when investigating a case. I'm not justifying the behaviour of our police officers, I'm only saying that such behaviors have roots and until we tackle the problem from the root, we will remain where we are or even get worse. First we should advocate for more funding for the police so that they can perform their functions like their counterparts in other jurisdictions. We are all seeing the dilapidated and moribond structures as well as the tuke-tuke vehicles they use. It's not forbidden for our police to own a fleet of aircrafts for operations. Second, the laws establishing the force should stress more emphasy on accountability. All these nonsense orders from above should be a thing of the past. Each officer should act within the the ambit of the law and with less discretion and that he should be personally responsible for his deeds without hiding under orders from above. Welfare of the members of the force should not be left out. Our police is the least paid within the ECOWAS. This is pathetic. Their health, accommodations, pensions, should looked into. If the above measures are taken, I assure you that our police will be very attractive to Nigerians and people will join the police out passion not just as a job. With this a police officer will act accordingly because he will be scared to loose his LUCRATIVE job and with passion he will discharge his functions cordially and humanely irrespective of which squad he belongs to whether SARS, RRS, IRS, etc. |
Of course, people partake in ENDSARS protest for reasons, a very few for genuine change of state of affairs, a few for a better policing and better Nigeria and junk of them for irrational reasons. |
I hope the people hailing them will come to their rescue when the police come for them |
Okiro could not have said it better. SARS should be restructured and rebranded. Outright banning of the Organization will do more harm than good. Many criminals, robbers especially will have a free day to operate. |
She has every right to so do |
I doubt if Osibanjo has any integrity at all because his silence over what has been happening in the country also makes him an accomplice. I mean the killing in Southern Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara and indeed all over the nation is enough to make a man of integrity resigns |
tunderay:You better have a second look but this time more carefully and attentively too |
