How does a deal to sell radar facilities to Tanzania amount to an example of Western biz exploiting Africa?Tanzania has barely adequate radar facilities and they needed it to be able to improve their air safety record.

Radar is not a weapon.

The underlying problem with the deal was the inflation of contract by the Tanzanian Govt in other to facilitate bribes to Govt officials. That is not BAE's fault.

Let's put it this way.If BAE did not give the bribe the Govt would take their contract somewhereelse.

That does not excuse BAE's behavior but it puts things perspective. The problem of African Govts inflating contracts is not the fault of Western bizs like BAE but the fault of African politicians

Besides, most weapons fueling conflicts in Africa do not come from the Western world. Most of the weapons come from the China and Eastern and Central Europe.

Instead of engaging in another round Western bashing we should concentrate on the real source of the problems-China and Eastern Europe.

Remember recently that the OBJ asked the Bush adminstration for weapons to deal with the Niger-Delta problem. When this was rejected he turned to China

Chinese coys have an apalling record in offering bribes. They do not have the US equivalent of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act which prohibits coys from offering bribes in foreign nations

Have u ever asked yourself why as an English speaking nation,Nigeria has few US and British coys entering into contracts with the Nigerian Govt
Why do you think it was considered a controversial Military radar ?

The emboldened part above says much about the ethics of western nations and their arrogance in telling other nations whenver they do wrong.

So the real source of problems is now China and Eastern Europe !!!

Christianity EtcRe: Why British Women Are Turning To Islam by Easyy(m): 6:12pm On Jan 17, 2007
babyosisi:
Most of the ones here in the states also are the ones married to Muslim men.
Many women would also turn to shango if they married a shango worshipper.

Have you guys also watched the shows what became of these women and their children when the marriage broke down and the man flees to the middle east with the children.
What's wrong with the man taking his children? Women are always taking children and holding mken to ransome anyway. Besides, we often hear complaints about men not caring about their kids so it should be a thing of joy when the man decides to take the kids  tongue

Christianity EtcRe: Why British Women Are Turning To Islam by Easyy(m): 2:23pm On Jan 17, 2007
I do realise that there are quite a number of British women turning to Islam from my own personal observation but this really has nothing to do with the beauty or otherwise of the religion.

Most of the ones I have met are the ones who have married Arabs and muslims, they are also usually the fat and ugly ones, not wanted by the white majority. One other reason could be the fact that some will support the underdog and the way that mainstream society seems to bash everything islamic is going to drive some to islamic sympathy.

I can only pray that God should open the eyes of everyone to see and accept the TRUTH.
FamilyRe: Child Abuse And Street Hawking In Nigeria. by Easyy(m): 2:16pm On Jan 17, 2007
Does paper round not equate child abuse in the same measure?
FamilyRe: Child Abuse And Street Hawking In Nigeria. by Easyy(m): 2:14pm On Jan 17, 2007
Seun:
Street hawkers deserve to be treated with respect and appreciation. Afterall they are working hard to make a living. How would you like it if someone talked about your job as if it's a job that no one deserves to have?

Child abuse is one thing; street hawking is another. Our forefathers helped their parents in the farm. Child abuse is not the same thing as helping your parent to feed your junior ones. One is a crime, the other is life.

Child abuse and street hawking are two different things. Do not mix them up out of ignorance and sentiments.
Thank you Seun.

These people differentiate the 2 based on the Geographical location. A child who works in UK or America is not being abused but the one who works in Africa is being abused.
CrimeRe: Is It Legal In Nigeria To Beat Your Wife? by Easyy(m): 2:08pm On Jan 17, 2007
There's no country in the world where some unthinking men dont beat their wives. It happens a lot in the UK and the wives dont usually leave the men. They only leave the men when they realise the guy doesn't even want them again. It's pathetic but it's only stupid and silly women who would find themselves in such situations in the first place.

To the poster of this, IT IS NOT LEGAL TO BEAT YOUR WIFE IN NIGERIA. It's assault!!!
CrimeRe: Is It Legal In Nigeria To Beat Your Wife? by Easyy(m): 2:04pm On Jan 17, 2007
Its legal because if a wife goes to the police and report ha husband am sure the police guys would laugh and b confused on what to do because its like a normal tin here.

How does that make it legal?
PoliticsWestern Business Interests In Africa by Easyy(op): 2:01pm On Jan 17, 2007
We never really get to hear about these kind of stories because they are never exposed.

I wonder how many of such deals go on daily in Nigeria

http://www.guardian.co.uk/armstrade/story/0,,1990523,00.html

This single organisation using bribe tactics which leads to maassacres in poor nations is one the single largest employers of labour in UK. However, no one ever realises that it's the killings and massacres of the 3rd world countries that energise many western nations.

Does anyone know of any such deals in other African nations, especially Nigeria?

There are many young people who would like to forget about Nigeria but these are the same ones who tend to cling to the Nigerian identity.

Feelings differ with respect to nationality and patriotism from person to person.

Personally, I have never felt anything other than NIGERIAN and irrespective of the rubbish that many of us have made it, I feel proud to belong to Nigeria.

personally i believe we have no country apart from nigeria if it changes for good we will be the ones to enjoy it, though i feel very sad when ever i go back to nigeria, i still remain opptimistic that one day things will get better and when it does we all will benefit from it, so lets keep hope alive and put our hands together to make it work because as it is we only talk and we never act, a little positive act by every body will change things a lot.

The problem is with the male chauvinists that wrote the bible. Those are the big culprits here!

Christianity EtcRe: Should Women Preach? by Easyy(m): 1:24pm On Jan 12, 2007
The debate rages.

The argument by trini-girl (and to a lesser degree ufanIma) while quite plausible on the face of it, is one that I find deeply flawed, for the following reasons.

The conclusion is that the scripture is not valid for us today. redundant. Pray tell, how many other portions of scripture were written with others or unique situations in mind? And are therefore also redundant and not applicable to us in this age? The NT is addressed to believers in all places for all time until the end.

It also suggests that one cannot understand scripture without an understanding of the cultural setting of the time it was written. It lends credence to the “Bible needs updating for our times” and “contextual interpretation” schools of thought, which have been largely responsible for the denial of the truth of the scriptures. Please don’t go there.

It is the same argument used by the gay-homosexual lobby in reference to the scriptures relating to same-sex relationships. It the thin end of the wedge. Again, please don’t.

Feminist arguments have no place in the body of Christ, no matter how PC they may sound.

I concur
Christianity EtcRe: Should Women Preach? by Easyy(m): 1:22pm On Jan 12, 2007
Shahan, your scriptural imputs are all right. what am not agreeing with is your inference that if women preach they are

usurp authority or teach.

Women that are ordained as pastors are not in anyway usurping authority - it is God's gift that is not partial to male or female. The gifts of the spirit and the ministerial gifts are not based on men or women.

If a women is blessed with the gift of teaching or prophesying and she is called or ordained, so must be silent because she is a woman? I agree with TV01, our God is a God of order but he is not a male chauvinist.

Peace.

You are right about the fruit of the spirit not being based on whether or not one is male/female.

Do you have scripture to contradict the point about women not being teachers?
Christianity EtcRe: Should Women Preach? by Easyy(m): 1:19pm On Jan 12, 2007
@ Shahan

Rubbish!

When Paul said what he preached there he preaches in every church he was referring to the Gospel of Christ , geez!

If God did not sanction it, then we would know by the fruit. There are many women in ministry that God has blessed and prospered. I have personally sat under the teaching of women and the presence of God filled that place and it was awesome. What about mighty women of God like Marilyn Hickey, Joyce Mayers , and what of men of God whose wives are actively involved as co pastors. What of women even in the old testament who were Prophetesses?

Please cover yourself, your ignorance is showing.

Why resort to insults? especially when you have no scripture to back yourself.

Personally, I take my spiritual instructions from the word of God; NOT what someone does with his/her life.
Christianity EtcRe: Should Women Preach? by Easyy(m): 1:16pm On Jan 12, 2007
shahan, inas much as you've quoted the bible quite extensively, I beg to disagree with this. So were women created to cook and clean sicne you talk about differentiated roles in the home and at the church?

Shahan has quoted scripture to back himself. Why dont you do the same?
Christianity EtcRe: Should Women Preach? by Easyy(m): 1:12pm On Jan 12, 2007

All,

I was getting blessed by reading all the posts and the reactions of Orikinla and TV01 to each other until babyosisi entered with a rather instigational post and everything went pear shaped, then came in disguised or supressed unhappiness with each other.

Orikinla, I appreaciate the intial responses you gave and they all seemed to have been in love.

TV01, I also appreciate your contribution to this and the attempt to ensure that God must have all the glory and to keep us in reminder of the fact that the wisdom of the world is foolishness to God.

Let love be our watchword so that God who knows the thoughts of our hearts will have cause to say 'well done' to us as I say to my son whenever he has impressed me grin

That is an awful act of disregard for any known norm in this world by people who always decietfully speak about conforming to laws and norms. AND, I must admit, this is the first I'm hearing of this.

Invading a country's consulate especially when it is not in your own country is nothing but a declaration of war. Why is the Bush administration such blood thirsty and hell bent on creating chaos in order to be able to influence and ultimately control the middle east region?

Na wa for this administration and it's gung ho tactics sha.

If the government is to blame for everything, where then does our government come from? Do they just magically appear and become politicians? Who supports them? Who helps them wield their power? Isn't the answer the people? So yeah, I agree. A large number of Nigerians are the problem with Nigeria.
Mariory cheers.

We like to shirk responsibilities and blame the leaders as if the leaders dropped from heaven. We are responsible for the kind of leadership we have.

If it was me, I may think you just want me for the sex, which is not particularly uncommonly done to African guys.

I'd also like to ask how you'd feel if a guy used you the same way just for sex.

It's a weird world where women do no wrong!
