TheGoodJoe: Saving us from a National embarrassment is also important. I am asking the mitigation plans put in place by the NFF. I am yet to hear any proposition.
What were the mitigation plans put in place or the only solution is to abandon them? The Libyans were not abandoned. It was not even an emergency. It was an issue of miscommunication which the Libyans deliberately created for themselves. The contingency plans may not be the best but given the limitations we have as a country, lots of people agree that the NFF did their best to welcome the Libyans. If they were not satisfied, they should have lodged a formal complaint with CAF. The NFF can obviously improve their logistics but they did their best here! |

TheGoodJoe: That is why I said we need clarification.
The NFF man said they offered Buses.
We need to know if the buses were going to be covered by us. If the bus charges were not going to be covered by us, then it might have been too expensive for them.
It does not make sense for the Libyans to reject cozy buses to go and higher low grade buses that had poor air conditioning. You never can tell. The North Africans dont think like us. We do have our peculiar challenges here. When you visit someone, sometimes you just adjust for the few period you will be there. Whatever be the issue, the Libyans escalated too far with their antics with our contigents. |

TheGoodJoe: Actually, from that interview, the NFF secured Uyo landing clearance after the information of their departure. He made a statement like they should have informed him of the challenges earlier.
However, after the clearance, they could not pay for the connecting flight. This is where the NFF needs to explain further why we could not assist with the flight or bus charter. Why did Libya have to pay that and ended up with a faulty bus. The NFF actually made a contingency for a bus charter but the Libyans opted for a bus arrangement they(the Libyans) made on their own. They were also advised against doing the road trip at night considering the state of our roads and security but they insisted on making the trip. The NFF also provided security for them for the trip. The contingency to pay the additional costs for the flight to Uyo is a little more complicated as some of us have explained. There is always a room for improvements but the Libyans escalated these simple resolvable issues. |

TheGoodJoe: Sorry to say it but this NFF seemed ridiculed with incompetence.
Even this Port Harcourt case, did the NFF formally reach out to the Libyan Football Federation to clarify that they were not behind the issues the team faced? At least for diplomatic reasons. They just ignored them. There are a number of issues to be considered here: 1) What is the standard protocol from CAF for the arrival and receiving of an away team for a game? I expect an official email to the host Federation detailing the flight itinerary at least 48hrs to the ETA with the CAF Secretariat being copied in such mail. This should be a minimum standard protocol to avoid ambiguity. 2) The North African Teams have an history of being evasive with their travel plans when they go play away games especially against Sub-Saharan African teams. This is partly due to their own sporting strategy and partly due to lack of trust that their host will be willing to genuinely take care of them without playing any mind games. Another factor is that the North Africans play these forms of mind games on their own visiting away teams and they do their best to also anticipate their opponents reciprocating these gestures. Another angle is that the Arab African world does not completely identify with sub saharan Africa for obvious reasons. For example, in November 2016, for a 2018 world cup qualifier game against Nigeria, Algeria NT came with their own water, pillows, beddings and foods. 3)Coming to the current issue on ground, The NFF officials confirmed speaking with the Libyan Representative on Monday evening to confirm their flight itinerary but was told they will let them(the NFF) know, only to inform them 3hours to the ETA that they will be landing in PH whilst the NFF claimed they had already secured a landing permit in Uyo. The NFF received them in PH, requested they go through customs and then proceed to fly to Uyo with same chatered airplane but for obvious reasons they opted for the road trip. The NFF is a govt and corporate organization and even if they had the money, it is very unlikely that the bureaucracy involved in approvals may not pass the right channels to approve in time for the NFF to incur the additional cost of the flight to Uyo from PH. 4) I have watched and followed Nigerian football for up-to three decades now and while I will never vouch for the competence of the NFF and the defunct NFA, Nigeria does not have a track record of maltreating their guests especially in the sporting world. There is another isolated case of the SA team spending some time in PH instead of landing in Uyo for a game recently. I do not have the information on this incidence and I believe the NFF can also up their game but my number one point above can help to resolve these issues. 5) The Libyans showed to the world that they are extremely vindictive and would even risk the lives of innocent footballers just to prove a cheap point for an inconsequential AFCON qualifiers that they are likely not even going to qualify for, even if they beat Nigeria. This is borderline wickedness and must be condemned by anyone who values humanity. They went too far this time. They could have lodged a formal complaint with CAF, do a little dark arts here and there and let the game go on but chose to be hostage takers for a mere football game! |

Finisher my friend, finisher. Iheanacho is a better finisher than Mbappe. That is, Iheanacho needs less chances in front of goal to score. Iheanacho is more clinical with his chances. No one said he is a better player than Mbappe.

I’ve lost someone so dear to me couple of times and I know how it feels. Now the government is aware we are not joking anymore. Let’s give them time say 2-3 months and if nothing changes, then we all will fall out again and no going back. The dying part is most regrettable and should be avoided but most great nations evolved from such public outcry of unacceptable trends and events... |

Icon79: Omo, he has to use what he got. With Ndidi, Etebo, and Aribo all unavailable, what do you expect him to do? How you ever considered that maybe our team is NOT as talented or as deep as we tend to think it is?
In the 1994 team, we had a very deep bench. The same cannot be said if this team. We simply don’t have enough talent in every position. You can’t blame Rohr for that deficiency, the right players are simply not there. If they exist, we should them showing it at their clubs.
O pari You have a point but a bunch of average players that are well coached can still make a good team. Keshi took a bunch of average and below average players and won an Afcon and qualified for R16 at the world cup despite that, that sucess was not sustainable. This coach has to dig deep and use what he has. I dont overhype this team but i believe thier talent level is decent enough for them to play better than they are doing! Lets not forget that bar Aribo,he had most of his players last year against Algeria and his team still got skinned! |

Icon79: Yes, I have criticized Rohr for the game plan he used with most of games in Russia especially against Croatia. However, he actually doesn’t play that style against African oppositions.
I don’t think he was ultra defensive on Friday. The main problem we had on Friday is that they overran in the midfield. We played with a makeshift midfield and that spelled doom for our game. In addition, that team needs a playmaker. We need to work harder about getting Ebere Eze to switch. Iwobi is not a true playmaker.
O pari And same man picked a defender to play in the middle when he knew even his playmaker is not a natural no10. He needs to be smarter with his tactics wen he has personnel limitations and he does not have a clear cut objective for this team else whoever he plays will try n fit in to the big picture of the team! Rohr does not look like a man who does serious tactical tweaking/thinking with his team and his coaching crew before and during a game! |

Icon79: Perspectives folks. We’re still in rebuilding phase unfortunately. The Core of team Rohr met when he started are no longer in the team: Mikel, VicMo, Ogu, Ideye, Enyeama, Ighalo, Onazi, etc.
O pari While rebuilding he should play to the strength of the team and be more dynamic with his tactics...He has lots of young and skillful offensive players and yet he is ultra defensive when he comes up against good teams. We still dont know what to expect wenever his team takes to the field....that has to change!....plus not all the players westerhof met in 1989 when he first took over were part of the 94 team but he had a clear vision of the pattern of play he wanted to acheive....we want to see some consistency as there will always be change of some players as the team progresses! |

Icon79: You get liver to talk about the performance in Russia? Would the Super Eagles even have qualified for that World Cup in the first place, if not for Rohr? Where was the team before Rohr took over?
At a stage where we can’t even qualify for the AFCON on two different occasions from a group featuring the likes of Guinea! The team Rohr took over was such a hot mess that even mediocre foreign coaches were respectfully declining a chance to coach us.
Now Rohr has cleaned up the team and we’re talking about “all the talents” at his disposal. Where are the talents? How many of our boys are playing week in week out at their clubs?
Please enough of all these delusions of grandeur and realize that our players are average at best. Player to player, Algeria has a lot more talent than us.
O pari That he qualified us for a world cup does not mean we should keep basking in the euphoria. We had made it to FIVE(5) other world cups before. We salute his man management skill and his pulling this team from the brink of obscurity but we want more than just playing and participating in tourney. The Algeria coach needed just a year to build an Afcon winning team and you can still see the progress they are making. This super eagles team do not have a defined playing pattern or identity after been coached by the same man for more than 4yrs now...We saw the gradual progression of the westerhof’s team that culminated in the historical 94 squad. Rohr may end up just gathering this pool of decent talent for a more tactical astute coach to design a winning formula. Peace bro! |

Siasia was well known for playing direct attacking football.. Amuneke too.. even Manu Garba... The super eagles of the 1990s relied a lot on wing play...
I ask again, after 4 years with the team, what is Rohr's playing style? No style bro....just huffing and puffing! |

caprikon: The biggest take I have from this game is that this Nigerian team lacks a clear structure and identity after being coached by same person for 4 years!!!
This team relies too much on individual brilliance which isn't quite good enough.
The Senegal side of 2002 and the Ghana side of 2010 had a of hanful of highly talented players but the rest were average at best but they outperformed more talented teams by having a clear structure and sound tactics.
We were lucky Algeria weren't this organized during the WCQ.
I think with Rohr in charge...the Super Eagles will be a decent at best but I don't see his team winning the AFCON or turning heads at the World cup if the team qualifies. Thanks....my exact thoughts on the direction this team is headed despite the fair amount of potentials in this team! |

I don't know how some people watch football though, but as for me, I have never seen Ekong play good football as a defender. His game is just aimless clearances and wild tackles. Then they should play closer together....use the triangles or diamonds and outnumber their opponents....Barcelona in the iniesta and Xavi era rarely cross the ball....they just outnumber their opponent in every phase of the game and strike with ruthless precison....Rohr should develop an identity for this team by playing to this team strengths! |

I hope Akpoguma can be a higher version of Balogun, Semi Ajayi seems to be doing better in midfield than defence and finally make we dey learn to respect Iwobi.
