busky007: mention one strength wey this team get apart from youth
Youthfullness is a huge strength in modern football if the players have good exposure which most of our young players have. You can get an high level of fitness and intensity from this team cos of their youthfulness. Most of the forwards are also skillful but have to learn when when to release the the ball. Their cohesiveness can also be better with a good caoch and the right tactics. We can play better also from the wings if the coach can get his acts right! The coach also have to take risk and learn to be less predictable with his mediocre lineups most atimes!
Sanusi is a speedster! Onuachu may not click with this team! Semi is a defender not a midfielder! Gernot Rohr tactics may not maximise the strength of this team!
TheGoodJoe: So despite Ndidi's high quality, his high valuation will put clubs off from fighting to sign him. Unlike Partey where there was a clear chance to sign him cheap.
Point made. How come clubs are not fighting to sign Ndidi?
Because of his high valuation by Leicester City.
Finito.
Smiles....you just ask a question and answer yourself and write finito....interesting! Meanwhile, there may be lots of things that could make teams not yet fighting for his signature. Ndidi is arguably one of the most hardworking footballers in world football,he is an example of hardwork trumps talent but he does have limitations on his skill set just like any other human in life. He will get offer when the time comes from a team that are looking for his specific skill set but for now you concluding that his high valuation by leceister is the reason teams aint yet scampering for his signature is not entirely true!
TheGoodJoe: If there was no gap in the contract of Partey, do you think Arsenal would cough up to £70m for him?
If no, there is no case here. Despite Ndidi's rep, he will cost way above £60m or even £70m. So clubs are not fighting for his signature.
Gerrit?
They wont pay £70m for partey because they also have their own valuation of the player despite his qaulity. Valuation is two ways-seller and buyer. No matter the price a seller puts on a commodity, a buyer will only purchase that product if the product meets his(buyer’s) valuation. This is the reason why there are negotiations so both parties can reach a common ground. But the product will be of the qaulity the buyer wants FIRST before he will go into such negotiations!
TheGoodJoe: Arsenal lost out on Aouar because they could not meet the asking price of Lyon. Price is a big decider. Clubs know Ndidi will cost a fortune. Arsenal snapped Partey because of the contract gap.
So Partey is not just a decent player, but quality and with the gap, he was snapped.
So making it look like Arsenal wanted Partey because of quality and not Ndidi is not a true picture.
If Ndidi will even go for £50m, clubs will he fighting for him. Unfortunately, he will cost a fortune.
They went for partey because of quality....price/money is a factor in almost every facet of life....what you stand to gain from sth will determine how much you willing to pay or invest in it.....Arsenal paid £45m for Partey cos they believe he is properly valued at that price and thats almost same price they were unwilling to pay for Aouar cos he was not worth that price in their own valuation and not because they didnt had the money to pay!
TheGoodJoe: Totally disagree. Manchester City has the money but totally lost out in their pursuit of Koulibaly and I think John Evans.
Put Ndidi at £50m and you will see clubs fighting themselves for his signature.
They know Leicester City owner is hard-boiled when it comes to negotiations.
Money is always a consideration in anything we do in life so every team will always do a decent cost evaluation before investing in any player but an ambitious team will not just pick any player just because they are cheap in the market!
TheGoodJoe: Are you serious? Arsenal got Partey for £45m by meeting his release clause. Same can't be done for Ndidi. So don't make it look like Arsenal could just bid for Ndidi and chose Partey.
Most clubs know they need a fortune for Ndidi.
It is his skill skill set that limits him and has nothing to do with his valuation on the market,no matter his price,a team can always afford him but question is what does he bring to the table of modern football aside tackling?
TheGoodJoe: Go back and read my quotes. I have gone as far as describing Guardiola's tactics as a show of shame. During the match, from the first half, I made my stance clear that tactically we were off and Lyon were sound.
However, Guardiola made some corrections, we were on the front foot but the refs/uefa decided to hand Lyon an illegitimate goal. Which is disappointing.
Ur assertion that a gang up was part of the reason City lost almost makes it look like you looking for an excuse for a team that was not good enough on the night....the Uefa/Ref gang-up was not the reason Sterling missed a sitter. City were undone by a fitter and superior Lyon team. These Referees’ decisions can go either ways most times. If a team does its job right and effectively,it can negate some seemingly poor referee’s judgement. I dont beleive in conspiracy theory in football,it is the easiest excuse a team can put up for a defeat!
TheGoodJoe: Where did I say Pep must win every game or are you just avoiding the points I made.
I said we have lost loads this season, 9 in the EPL if I am correct due to similar strategies adopted by opposition. So where did you get Pep must win every game.
My point is simple. Sitting deep is hoping the attacking team fails to take their chances and when the few opportunities, you take them. It is not outsmarting or out classing. It is surrendering a fight and hoping you can stay on the negative and get a favourable result.
Sitting deep is not neccessarily an admittance of superiority,it is more of understanding your strengths and playing fully to that. No matter how deep you sit,you still have to to ur opponent’s half and score goals to win a game. Alex Ferguson in the latter years of his reign would give up posssesion and sit deep when playing Wenger’s Arsenal and use the explosive pace of Ronaldo,Nani,Rooney et al to wreck havoc. Wenger’s arsenal kept possesion but lacked organisation at the back and most teams exploited that fully Your philosophy of thinking possession football is the best make you see it that teams that sit deep come into the game with an inferior complex which is far from it. It’s not good sportsmanship to attribute Arsenal’s win to merely sitting deep....shelah!
TheGoodJoe: How is sitting very deep almost all through the game not parked bus? That was the overall strategy.
By the way, winning has a lot to do with fortune than outsmarting. The strategy Arteta adopted favoured him. He did not outsmart Guardiola. There are teams that have adopted the same approach against City and failed woefully because we found a way to break the deadlock. Were they outsmarted?
They never sat as deep as u sound. Arteta drilled his side in curtailing the byline cutbacks that leads to so many City goals, squeezed the space to stop Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan shifting the ball quickly, and closed the gaps close to the box where David Silva weaves his magic. You need more than good fortune to create four chances all on target against a very good city side, thats a lil bit of efficiency. Arsenal first chance came off a David Luiz interception deep into City’s half before treading a pass for a one-one chance which Aubameyang missed. They pressed superbly atimes and played from the back impressively too(one of which led to the first goal). They lost the ball atimes but so did City. City is vulnerable on the counter with their only plan of possession football and may have to evolve other plans if they want to dominate for long like Fergie’s Utd.. Meanwhile,my examples of bus parking are: Barcelona vs Inter...UCL second leg Semi 2010 Barcelona vs Chelsea...UCL 2nd leg semi 2012 Cameroun vs Argentina....Italia ‘90.
TheGoodJoe: How did Pep get outsmarted? Are you saying he did not expect Arteta to sit deep and wow, Arteta shocked Pep by sitting deep? How did he outsmart him?
Almost every team sits deep, very deep against us. The reason why we have lost loads this season is due to this. Nothing out of the extraordinary. We just work extra hard to break the dead lock early to ease space. When we don't or conceed early, we suffer.
Nothing like outsmarting here. Or are you saying Simeone outsmarted Klopp by sitting very deep in both games?
To outsmart literally means to defeat or get the better of someone by being clever or cunning exactly what Arteta did yesterday. I am Arsenal Fan since 1998 and I have been very critical of the team late Wenger years and during Unai’s reign but they were perfect physically and tactically last night. I love Guardiola’s style a lot and adore the guy but you wont win every football game no matter the style u adopt. Your definition of parking the bus does not one bit apply to arsenal last night as their tactics was far from that. City is a great team but don’t underestimate the efforts Arsenal put in to get that result....shelah!
Joebie: The writer seems to be suggesting something but at the same time the write up is seemingly contradictory. Who can help me understand this piece. Let's analyze it because it's lacking clarity.
I think his thoughts are that the Super Eagles as a brand diminishes if it continues to make itself a readily available alternative or second choice to foreign bred Nigerians. He wants an improved local system dat will ensure players totally committed to us are the ones who dorn the green jersey. These committed players can be local or foreign based but they will give us their heart at all times without any ulterior/questionable motives!
He(Troussier) was still in charge for the last game against Guinea (see link above) before he was sacked due to his style of play not suiting most of our players albeit some internal wranglings within the NFA then....Sinclair took charge of a couple of friendly matches against Zambia in December 1997 before Bora was appointed. Bora took the team to the invitational tournament in Hong Kong in January 1998.
TheGoodJoe: Nigeria had booked their France 98' World Cup ticket in their penultimate match against Kenya with a 3-0 victory over Kenya.
The last game was a mere formality against Guinea far away in Conakry where the former African champions played for bragging rights.
But the French technical adviser decided to call it quits after much pressure from the then Nigeria Football Association (NFA).
The governing body had no choice but to employ an interim coach which Monday Sinclair was the only experienced coach at hand and was the eighth indigenous coach to handle the national team.
Troussier was gone before the final game. Remember there was an invitational tournament which Sinclair still had to coach the team because of the long absence of Troussier.
Troussier was head coach on paper but Sinclair was running the show before his final departure before the last game of the qualifiers.
The info of the events are not clear. I hope Kog45 still remembers.
TheGoodJoe: Thank you for this. First of all, Philippe Trousierre was not in the country for a long time before the game. I doubt he even selected the squad. There was even debates that if he was not returning, Sinclair should handle the match.
Sinclair might have prepared the team or maybe Trousierre came back to prepare but I doubt he drafted the list since the call ups were made before his return from his temporary exile.
Kog45 seems to recollect a lot of specific data of past events and I would like his spin of it.
He was just having a tough time with the internal politics of the NFA then but am sure he was too experienced then to let another coach pick his team. He(Troussier) was still in charge in the last match against Guinea before he was eventually relieved of his post!
Fortunately, i watched this very game on d said date...went to lagos from warri with d delta state supporters club to see d game....i can confirm 200% philip trousier was d coach for this game as we were sitted directly behind d eagles bench....it happened to be the only game i saw the eagles play at the national stadium surulere hence the memory is still very fresh! The link above gives the line up for the said game including the coaches for both team....cheers!
TheGoodJoe: Rohr needs to scout and decide for himself if there are no talents. He can not stay and Europe and summarize that we have no talents in the NPFL and NNL.
Every person would want to employ the best personnel to get the best efforts and results from their jobs including Rohr and identifying football talents is not rocket science. The structure and organization of our leagues over the years have been so shambolic that our best talents even at cadet levels are based abroad or overseas-bound. The NFF and LMC needs to put their house in order, once we get our leagues right, u don’t need to compel any national team coach to stay and watch any league....if his best personnel are here, he will gladly discover and use dem!
Money that will still be transferred to the consumer....how does CBN guarantee the merchants make a profit of #50 or more from every #1000 transactions....common sense is that the business owners will transfer the burden to the consumers....very nonsense clarification from Low thinking CBN!
Joao Felix has done virtually nothing in the game of football but I am head over heels for him. Haaland is just starting but I am thrilled by him.
I watched Bernado Silva and Mbappe in that game. I was over the moon with Bernado Silva and Lemar's performance, over Mbappe.
It is a thing of preference.
Mbappe has been brilliant but not yet won me over. I like and respect the dude. I am just not yet sold. Not a kid that will have me turning off something I am doing to watch excitedly.
Opininions do differ dats y I stay away from “opinion based arguments” on this thread and even in real life as we all see things differently. It was my first time of seeing Mbappe play when I made that assertion and his personal and collective records after then allude to the fact that he is a top player any day. I await the next player in his age bracket to break some of his enviable record (No disrespect of ur opinion). Peace!
Tammy will come good,I believe his decision is borne out of where his heart truly lies being England. Sometimes, just playing a few games for a country where ur heart belongs could mean much dan earning 100 caps for anoda wen u ain’t happy. Whether we like it or not,as a black man in d western society, u are expected to prove to be twice as competent as ur white folks before u will be given same opportunities as them. If Tammy stays on his feet,he will earn some good caps for England as he seems hungry for success. Personally, he has my best regards!
TheGoodJoe: First is to get it to work on the training pitch then a run of games to show the player's quality.
I have always said that. The run of games is the final frontier to show the player's development.
Very true but training conditions differ slightly from match conditions hence nobody is gonna gift you a run of games just cos you have learnt a lot in training and on d bench. You were not playing Becos others are above u in d pecking order and you will get the games when situation like injuries and team rotations or in some rare cases like chelsea’s,a transfer ban becomes a factor or you show sign of great readiness which itself is a 50-50 gamble from the coach’s point of view!
Icon4s: Hope you saw Haaland at the U20 WC? I don't want to start an argument on Osimhen vs Haaland.
But what I am pointing out to you is that Osimhen is a better player today compared to 2 years ago. And did not have the abilities he has now.
He actually have these talents, there are raw and innate and where there to be unearthed by a good system and serious hardwork on his part too....Cool he is on the right track
TheGoodJoe: 19-year-old Haaland is just starting. He has scored 17 goals in 10 club games, including four hat-tricks, and will look to add to that tally for Salzburg against Liverpool on Wednesday And he scored yesterday against Liverpool.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOQ1sPIH7QE&app=desktop Training, bench, playing, watching games are all part of a players development, there just have to be a good balance. A player may not be able to master what he learns on the training ground if he doesn’t get the chance to express himself on the field in an actual game.
Being on the bench does not mean the player is not good.
